I’m Natalie Porter, and I have spent my entire life with the dead. I have always seen and helped the dead find their lasting peace…until now. Now, I’m watching the innocent die. I don’t know how to stop him, and I’m not sure I can. The killer communicates with me. He haunts me with his deep, evil laugh, enjoying the torture he inflicts as he’s preying on the innocent. He is trying to find the … find the perfect way to make me suffer.
I don’t understand why he hates me or what I did to him. I know I have to find him, to stop him before more people die or I do. No one can help me; this is my destiny to face him. He wants me to die. I want him to look me in the eye and try to kill me. I want to see the face of the monster who inflicts such pain.
I’m waiting for him to come. I have to face him alone. I’m drawing on all my abilities to be ready to fight. I know one of us will die. I pray that it’s him, and I have the strength to survive.

This book has a little bit of everything. There is action, suspense, mystery, adventure, steamy romance, a few wow moments, some interesting twists, humor, a tragedy, and a somewhat happy ending. Natalie has unique abilities that she uses to help law enforcement. These talents have genetic roots as her grandma, and another relative also has these talents. She meets Sheriff Derrick, and there is an instant attraction and a serial killer to find. With her best friend Kathy as support, Natalie’s unique abilities are taking quite a bit out of her to find this killer. She and Derrick try not to let their attraction interfere with the investigation, but what the heart wants what it wants.
I enjoyed this book immensely and did not stop reading until I completed it. I read it in one day. The story is engaging, and the characters are like your next-door neighbors. I can imagine people like the ones in the story living in my community sans the serial killer. I hope that Nancy Chastain writes more books with Derrick and Natalie. Their life together could become quite interesting.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is my first read fr this author and I enjoyed it very much. I would definitely read more books from this author.
Natalie Porter Has a a special ability that some may call a gift, for her whole life she has been able to communicate with the dead and she’s been using this gift by working for the San Diego police department helping them to find missing persons. After a call from the landlord who is taking care of her Grammy’s house calls and she receives a message from beyond to “Come home” Natalie decides to go home to Cherryvale to live in her family home. Derrick Leverty is the local Sheriff of Montgomery County who is baffled by a mysterious murder that he is currently investigating and when Natalie’s visions keep getting stronger that not only include her being able to see through the victims eyes but also the killers, she decides to share her visions with the Sheriff and together they team up to try and catch a possible serial killer. I really liked this story, the characters were strong and likable, the story line had everything suspense, thriller, paranormal, torture and a little bit of romance. It was good to be able to see what was happening from all involved POV.
