Mac OMG HOT!!!!
I m luving this series so much. The first book in the series was great but this was even better. I just luv a second chance romances there just my favourite and Mac and Delaney story is just brilliant. I was really looking forward to more of these guys and girls.
The history between Mac and Delaney is good and bad. I feel so sorry for both characters they have been through so much together and seperate. Things are very complicated between them. Delaney holds so much hate and luv towards Mac. Even with the hate for Mac he is never far from her thoughts. Which just annoys her so much she wants to get on with her life and move on. But even after so many years he is always there in her mind.
Mac is just amazing hot brilliant I just luv this guy so much. He is my favourite Eagle man. The way that Mac will do and drop jus anything for Delaney is so cute and just shows how strong there relationship still is. Delaney fights the spark and sexual tension that’s still strong but Mac won’t let her get away this time. They both need each other but there is still things that need to be said.
I enjoy this book so much. The story was brilliant. I liked that the story did blend in with the first book. The books are standalone but I think it’s better to read them in order. The first book is amazing as well so you won’t be disappointed. It’s was great getting more of Six and Cabe these guys are just great there friendship is so solid. I’m dying for more of this series. I just know that Cabe’s book is goin to be great. I would highly recommend this series and book so far it is so good. The story is sexy full of drama and characters that you will luv from the start and left wanting more of them. I couldn’t put this book down once I started it I was hooked.
Mac was Delaney’s first and she was his first love. When her brother Brock, his best-friend, died – Mac lost them both. Now Mac needs to keep her safe, while she learns the truth behind her brother’s death and the spark between them re-ignites. Loved all three stories in this series and am hoping there will be more!
Malachai “Mac” MacCarrick is a former SEAL and has started a new company Eagle Securities, with his “brothers in arms”. Mac and his best friends takes assignments in dangerous places and do things that nobody else wants to do. His best friend died 14 years ago and when he lost him he also lost his girlfriend, Delaney, who happens to be the sister of his best friend, the girl he wanted to spend forever with. Mac can’t stop thinking about her and suddenly gets an urgent phone call from a hospital in Germany asking him to get there quickly, that she has been asking for him. Maybe, this is his chance to redeem himself.
Delaney Shapiro, is an investigative journalist, and goes places and does things that are dangerous. She promised herself after the death of her brother that she would make a difference and serve the truth in her stories for her country. Her research this time has caused her to be hurt by her enemies. When she is finally able to open her eyes in the hospital, she sees Mac, the one that she just can’t get over and the man who is at fault for her brothers death.
Time together reignites the spark that once burned between them. Delaney tries to draw boundaries but Mac is determined to pick up where they left off. Once, back in the U.S., she is being followed and the trouble she found in Germany has now made her a target by a Russian arms dealer. Mac doesn’t want her out of his sight and enlists the help of his team members to help protect her. He will risk a future with her and his life to protect her at all cost….
Here’s the thing about Scarlet Cole: She writes SMART SMART SMART female characters and alpha men. BUT, those men defer to the smart women when they recognize who knows best. I think that was the magic of this book. Scarlet doesn’t write shrinking violets and Delaney is no exception. I loved Mac from the start. I knew they would get together but gosh it took forever and at one point I wanted to smack her. Great interweaving of Louisa from the first book into this plot. And of course the interplay between Six, Mac & Cabe was great. Great, realistic dialogue. Just excellent. I can’t wait for Cabe’s story.
Action, drama and a whole lot of steaminess
Scarlett Cole’s second book in her Love Over Duty was just as captivating as the first – and as someone who has a newfound appreciation for romantic suspense, I loved all aspects of Mac and Delaney’s story. Picking up where Under Fire left off, Mac (Malachai MacCarrick) receives a phone call that the ex-love of his life – Delaney Shapiro – is in a hospital in Germany and is asking for him, despite it being 14 years since they last laid eyes on each other. What follows is an absolutely gripping second chance romance that is full of action, suspense and a whole lot of sexual tension.
Scarlett has such a way with words that even though I normally prefer my romance novels to have a decent amount of sex in them, I didn’t care that Final Siege was more about the drama unfolding due to Delaney’s professional life then it was about the chemistry between her and Mac. Don’t get me wrong though, the romance is fabulous, but it took a back seat at times and I really did not mind. The people after Delaney are guys you want to get caught and despite not always getting the whole picture on why – the transportation of illegal weapons in war-torn countries, while a real and devastating problem, went over my head a little – I enjoyed the thrill of the chase!! And watching former Navy SEAL Mac lose his normal chilled and calm demeanour because of his feelings for Delaney was really fascinating.
The only downside for me is that I read the first two books in this series in the last week and now I have to wait MONTHS before getting Cabe’s story. The little teaser at the end was nowhere near enough. But I’ll be more than ready for the third book in Scarlett’s incredible Love Over Duty series.
I have been a fan of Scarlett Cole’s since I picked up her first book The Strongest Steel back in 2015, each of her books have been four or five star reads for me and this while this story wasn’t a five star it definitely gets four Love Over Duty stars.
There are a few things I loved about this book first and foremost is that while Delaney and Malachai haven’t seen one another in fourteen years they have never really moved on so when Delaney finds herself in some trouble the person she calls for help is Mac and he runs to be by her side. I love a good second chance at love story and this is exactly what you have here, what makes it even better is that Delaney holds onto her conviction on why they separated all those years ago and doesn’t just fall back into things with Mac….he definitely has to work for it.
The only thing that held me back from giving this five stars is silly really now that I am thinking about it, but, it bothered me that Delaney would get close to Mac only to shut him down again and again I understand she was having an internal war but Mac asked her to let him explain things and she didn’t want to hear it if she had maybe things would have happened quicker for them. For a tough investigative journalist that needs to find the answers before she can report it she doesn’t do that in her own life? It sort of threw me off a bit and really annoyed me, if you can be tough in your job pull up your big girl panties and be strong for yourself in your own life.
There is much more than going on than just the two of them finding their way back to one another, Delaney is an investigative journalist and apparently she has uncovered something that someone wants to stay hidden. With Delaney’s life in danger we get to see how the men of Eagle Securities takes care of one of their own…..watch out bad guys because you are not going to like what happens to you if you mess with one of their women!
Final Siege is the second book in the Love Over Duty series and it can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend the first book Under Fire. Cabe’s story is due out in July and I cannot wait to see how things work out for him in Deep Cover, Cabe has been in a somber mood since the death of his fiancée so I am really pulling for him to get the perfect woman for him.

I’ve loved everything that Scarlett Cole has given us since the first tattoo hottie in the Second Circle series. She does such a fantastic job of creating sexy, take-charge men with big hearts and a ton of understanding. It doesn’t matter what situation they find themselves in, they will do their best to do what they think is right. And, of course, Mac is no different.
He’s been carrying around a big regret for years and he finally might get his change to set things right. Of course, it’s not going to be easy and there is a lot of turmoil before he can set things right with Delaney. But they have a connection that has managed to last through time and heart-break so if they can manage to put the past to rest it will be worth it.
Delaney has come a long way from the girl she used to be, but she’s never gotten over Mac or his role in her brother’s death. When a dangerous situation brings him back into her life she finds it difficult to keep her distance. She may not want to let those feelings go but it won’t be easy when danger follows her back to California & Mac is the only thing standing between her and harm.
I’ve been reading a lot of military/suspense romance series and I don’t know if I’m getting them confused, but I remember a bit more action in Under Fire. While we do get it (and Cole does an AWESOME job of making it tense and thrilling), it mostly happens towards the end of the book. The main part involves the back and forth between Mac & Delaney as they come to terms with their past & whether they can have a future. Don’t get me wrong, the emotional portion of the book is well done and quite compelling. It’s just that I was expecting something a little different so it took me of guard 🙂

Final Siege by Scarlet Cole
Love Over Duty #2
Second chances at love with the woman you thought you would spend the rest of your life with don’t happen often so when Mac MacCarrick receives a call saying that Delaney Shapiro is asking for him he is on the next plane to Germany. He finds Delaney battered, bruised and sedated. He wants to take care of her and hopes there may be a second chance for them after fourteen years apart. Delaney is not sure why he is there and is unable to easily forget the “hate” she has felt for Mac over the years… With time she does thaw a bit but until a secret is revealed she is still in a bit of limbo.
This story deals with the men of Eagle Securities Company and each of the two stories so far has seen one of the men meet the woman that is to be in his future. Both women have had compelling life threatening entities to deal with that required the assistance of the ex-military men they eventually fall for. And, there was a bit of overlap between books one and two in who the threat was perpetrated by. I wonder if in book three there will be another source of threat to the woman that is the main character and also who which male will be involved.
The road to love for Mac and Delaney is not easy. There are tense moments, emotional battles to be waged, evil assassins to thwart and a friendship and love to rekindle. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series. It did make me wonder about what compels people to take risks that can be life threatening as Delaney did with her investigative journalism and Mac did in the military and pondering that was an interesting thing…as was thinking about how journalists and military might have different viewpoints on the same situation.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
I laughed, cried and was fighting for Mac and Buttons. I have not read the first book and you don’t have to, to read this book but I do want to read the first book cause I would like to read Six and Lou story. These books have HOT former Seals who now own their own Security company. This is Mac and Buttons story and they have a lot to overcome and most has to do with a bad accident that happened 14 years ago. This is a HEA and you want to fight for Mac and Buttons to make it and help them along the way. I would like to find out who Cabe ends up with, I am hoping he will be the next book.
*Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this for my honest opinion*
Years ago Delaney and Mac were everything to each other. Their futures were laid out and their love was the enduring kind that would last through the years. However, that was before Delaney’s brother died. Before her brother died and Mac essentially killed him.
Now over a decade later Delaney has been injured during a kidnapping. As an investigative journalist, Delaney is hungry for the story that will bring a madman and a group of terrorist to justice. What she doesn’t want or need is Mac coming to her rescue as she recovers from her injuries. Mac has tried to move on with his life without Delaney but now that he’s got his foot back in the door he’s not going anywhere.
This book covers a lot of ground concerning illegal weapons, drugs and the money trail that helps to finance fanatical groups. It became just a bit too much for me at times and I found myself skimming. There were also times when the characters were outlining who would be doing what on the current assignment and those paragraphs became long and drawn out so I skipped them as well.
However, the true story of this couple finding a way back to each other after each of them had lost their brother/best friend and all the years of hate and resentment that followed was worth the read. There is a lot of push from Delaney as she cannot let go of the fact that her brother is dead because of Mac. On the other hand, Mac is prepared to do anything to protect her even if it means killing someone.
The pace is a bit slow, the connection between the men is incredible with lots of humor, the showdown is explosive and the sex is steamy. Overall, a very nice read.
This is an honest review of an advanced copy provided by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press.
Dual POV
Safe – both h/H have been in relationships since their separation; H is not a manho; no om/ow drama
Possible triggers – h was kidnapped off page but not raped; some violence
Delaney is an investigative reporter and is kidnapped while during a story about guns in Kunduz. She is rescued and transported to Germany. Mac is former SEAL and now him and two friends own a security company. He hasn’t seen or heard from Delaney in years but when he gets the call from Germany, he’s on the first flight out.
Delaney and Mac dated when they were younger. They all grew up together including Delaney’s brother Brock. But Brock was killed in an accident and Delaney blamed Mac and she never forgave him.
Once they get back to the States, she has no where to go so she stays with Mac. She is determined to write her story but someone out there doesn’t want her to. Mac wants her back more than anything but can they get over the past to start a future?
First time reading this author and it was an excellent story. Second chance at love, sex, secrets, and a story that will keep you turning pages to the very end. The ending was a little anti climatic, it was built up and then it was over. I can’t wait to read more from Ms. Cole.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for netgalley *
Final Siege is the second book in the series “Lover Over duty” author Scarlett Cole, a book about a romance-thriller that is different from the other books of hers, but it really is a series that started good and this book came in to prove he can be more.
This book brings my favorite book of history: second chances. And here comes with a bonus of this novel having as background a suspense action going on.A combination that work so well for this series and I really liked it.
As well as all books of this author, the narrative is done in third person (something I’m used to) and tells the story of Mac and Delaney, who after dating in adolescence events led to separate them and it’s not good terms) so 14 years until after a sudden event in the life of Delaney, she resorts to Mac to help and so begins the story of these two.
I loved and I was involved with Mac and Delaney, the love between them still visible, and found myself cheering every page so that they find their way back to each other. These two are great characters, as well as the secondary characters.
Final Siege is a book that once I started reading, I couldn’t stop until the word “End”.It’s a
sweet story, romantic, thrilling and enigmatic at the same time, a great combination for those looking for a romantic thriller to read. And now I can only say: that history of Fits because he also deserves to be happy.
Final Siege is a heart pounding, emotional, and courageous love story. There is action, suspense, heat, and heart.
Mac is steady, loyal, intelligent and noble. He lost his best friend and the love of his life in one tragic moment. Nearly fourteen years later he gets a call that Delaney is in a military hospital and that she is asking for him. Mac will do whatever it takes to find out what happened and keep her safe.
Delaney is an intelligent, persistent, determined investigative journalist. While chasing down a lead she his captured and beaten. She wakes up to find Malachai “Mac” McCarrick by her side. She still longs for the comfort of his arms, but can’t forgive his betrayal. She is torn between pushing him away or accepting his help.
Delaney and Mac must work together to figure out who wants to harm Delaney. As they investigative, the chemistry between them sizzles. The action and plot twists are riveting. Mac must decide if he is willing to share a secret that could threaten the blossoming reunion. Delaney must decide if she is willing to hear the truth and let go of the past. As their connection intensifies, so does the investigation that places Delaney in danger. The Eagle Securities Team uses all of their knowledge and resources to protect one of their own.
Final Siege will give you all the feels! Sadness, nostalgia, happiness, hope, and swoons abound.
Mac and Delaney are strong, compelling characters that reach out and grab readers’ attention from the very beginning. Their relationship is a rocky road full of emotional turmoil and suspense throughout the story and the author has brought them to vivid life ensuring that the readers want to get know Mac and Delaney and their story. The attraction between the hero and heroine sizzles with lots of burning passion as the romance heats up the pages.
Anticipation builds and gets the adrenaline pumping throughout the story as danger stalks Delaney while Mac and his Eagle Security team members try to keep her alive and help fit the pieces of her story together to bring down a bunch of bad guys. The story has lots of twists and turns to keep readers on their toes along with thrills that add lots of excitement throughout the pages of this steady to fast paced story.
Final Siege is the first book that I have read of Scarlett Coles and I have to say that she does a great job of bring her world and her characters to life. She also provided just enough information to spark my curiosity and ensure that I am want to read the first book to find out what happened and since she had me ensnared by the Eagle Security team, of course I can’t wait to read the next book as well
This is book 2 of Ms Cole’s appropriately titled, Love Over Duty. But if like me , you have not read book one, rest assure it’s a stand alone and the author gives you enough background information that you get the gist of book one.
Mac’s and Delaney’s story is a second chance story filled with a suspenseful, intriguing , but a plot that is at times faced paced and at other times slow paced. That is , when it wasn’t inconsistent and hard to follow.
The characters were interesting.
An example of the inconsistency is when Delaney refers to an incident that happened the day before, then says it happened 3 days before and back to one day prior.
When the author jumps abruptly from one scene to another it distracts the reader.
This all became distracting and took away from the two main plots of the book, the story of a second chance, and the reason why Delaney was kidnapped.
I was gifted this copy by Netgalley and St Martin’s Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
**I received a copy of Final Siege from St. Martin’s Press and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**
Final Siege by Scarlett Cole is the second book in the Love Over Duty series. I have to honest I didn’t read the first book and even though it was easy to get into the story. But I think that I could’ve been able to understand how Six and Dr. Louisa fit into the story better. Because they are part of what happens at the end. I did enjoy the story and give it a solid 4 stars.
Delaney Shapiro is a investigative reporter for a small internet newspaper who prides themselves on telling the whole truth. But while in Afghanistan she is taken hostage and beaten when a SEAL team is finally able to rescue her the hospital calls Mac as he’s listed as her emergency contact. Now Malachai and Delaney haven’t talked in 15 years since her brother Brody died. But there’s a secret he’s carried for so long as to why her brother died perhaps now it’s time to tell her what really happened. But the story that she’s working on somehow connects to Louisa and Six it will take all of Eagle Security to rescue Delaney this time.
Malachai MacCarrick has loved Delaney since they were children but after Brody’s death, he goes into the SEALs as planned but with a secret from her that broke them up. Now when he’s called to her beside he’ll do anything because he still loves her. But can he tell her Brody’s secret and can they find love again?
The suspense and mystery surrounding Louisa, Six, Delaney, Mac and Cabe was very good but the romance side of it could’ve had a bit more heat. All in all Final Siege was a good story, now onto to Cabe’s story which is next. But I think I’ll read Under Fire first.
