Although I’m already a huge fan of this author, this is the first book I’ve read in this series. I’ll be buying the rest ASAP. I loved Justin and Gabriel and this story’s mix of action, romance, and a rollercoaster plot. This series is on my paperback to buy list.
Not having read the previous books in the series didn’t detract from my enjoyment, but I would recommend reading the series in order, if you can, as there are references to previous events.
I liked how different Justin and Gabriel are, although they both carry the consequences of their pasts and occupations. I liked how, because of their own skill set, it takes a lot of checking security systems etc for them to feel safe in their own home. I loved the life they’ve built together, helping people, and coming home to their fur children. Love the names of their dogs and cats. Their codenames of Chameleon and Reaper are very apt.
I liked the supporting cast too. I’m very happy that Kai and Devlin get their own book, and I liked Marilyn too. Poor Dev has been through hell because he was trying to make the world a better place. I liked how that part of the plot was resolved.
The action scenes are edge-of-seat, and I loved how Gabriel and Justin work seamlessly as a team. I pity anyone stupid enough to try and take one or the other of them out. The banter is fabulous, and they’re a great couple, on and off the field. I liked how the final scene with the bad guy played out, and how the tension kept rising.
The epilogue is sweet and I loved the closure of it, although I don’t believe for a moment that these two are retiring.
This is a great series and I hate to see Justin’s and Gabriel’s story end. I did expect the action and suspense which are top notch, but I did not expect this to be as sweet as it was in the relationship between Justin and Gabriel and the humor in their day to day lives before everything hits the fan. A top notch, fun read.
This book is so amazing! As always Ms Drake created a captivating plot that caught me since the beginning. Justin and Gabriel are perfect together, and I enjoyed a lot their antics and snarky banter between them and the depth of their feelings for each other. A truly romantic love story, in the middle of suspense and danger. I enjoyed every single page!! I can’t wait to read about Kai and Devlin in the next book!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely LOVE this series of books. This is the third book in the series which once again follows Justin and Gabriel on one of their unpredictable adventures. These two are one of my absolute favourite couples to read about – they are so well balanced and Drake is a master at writing truly hilarious scenes one minute, steamy ones the next, romance and unpredictable action too! This book follows the pair as they attempt to keep an innocent man and his child safe whilst they are on the run. Devlin and Jake were great secondary characters in this book and involving Kai, aka Ghost, really sets the scene for the next book. I can’t wait to read more in this series and I can only hope that Justin and Gabriel keep making appearances in these books too.
I couldn’t put it down from start to finish so it has to be 5 stars! This is definitely a book you should be reading if you love MM romance mixed with a healthy dose of action too.
Final Lover is the 3rd book in the Exit Strategy by Jocelynn Drake. This is probably the last chance (for now maybe, hopefully?) to go on one last adventure with our favorite assassins for hire Gabriel and Justin.
Justin and Gabriel has just started settling down into their new lives and house with their furry children doing the occasional jobs in between. Their current work involving a scientist named Devlin Relic and his son Jake is not one of the usual work they do as it involves doing protective custody and finding out who has placed a hit over an innocent man and his son. It has also made them more vulnerable as it meant letting total strangers into their home, their safe place.
When danger hit too close, Gabriel and Justin had to rethink on what they really want and what direction would they go with their relationship. Time is running out and they really need to find out soon who was behind in paying out a huge amount of money to take out Devlin before the both of them end up dead before they get their happily ever after.
Gabriel and Justin are so much and I really enjoyed their story which started in Deadly Lover. It has been a wild ride ever since. Final Lover gave them their happily ever after they deserved. Watching them grow individually and as a couple throughout the series is wonderful. Both have gone through so much – the pains and joys and their nerve wracking adventures on the way while discovering new things about each other.
The story of Final Lover in itself is more subdued compared to the first two books involving G Love and Secret Sauce. It’s definitely slower paced and the plot doesn’t feel as tight as the first two. Nonetheless, the characterization is stellar, the interactions beautiful and the dialogue is crisp and very interesting. The setup for the next book in this series is nicely done as well.
Overall, I recommend this book and would advise to anyone who would like to pick it up to start from the very first book as the pay off in doing so is very satisfying. I give this a 4.5 stars out of 5.
I received an arc copy of this book via GRR and I have chosen to publish my fair and honest review.
Gabriel and Justin, once again becoming involved with a rescue job, unable to say no. To save a good man and his son, they are once again thrust in the thick of danger.
Nicely written (as always). Gabriel and Justin are wonderful characters. The author has given the (ex) hitmen a depth that has developed over the series length. Action is good and has a realism I enjoy. The MC’s snark is sometimes over the top but so are the characters so it all flows fine.
Good series.
2021 reread: This is my favorite of the Gabriel and Justin trilogy.
I like how they are settled, yet still recognizing it’s only been a year so there’s still much to learn about each other. I love the idea of them tackling Gabriel’s past and settling down together, making friends, and raising two dogs (Pete and his bro Repeat – sooo Justin) and two cats (that are their princes and how frickin Gabriel is that?!) … but at the same time they’re keeping their hands in the assassin pies and being murderous Robin Hoods with glee.
I love Dev and Jake and seriously really love Kai like whoa. Bring them to me.
Ah Justin and his G Love. Can these two get any better?!? These two are so amazing and I really can’t get enough. Jocelyn Drake knows how to give us just enough tension to keep us on the edge of our seat while still giving us the love and banter that keeps it light between our two favorite contract assassins. Can’t wait to read the next story focusing on Kai and Devlin!
Final Lover is the third and final book in the Exit Strategy Trilogy. You do need to read these in order, as they follow the men as they meet and make a way for them to have a normal, well, semi-normal life.
Justin and Gabriel have retired (though their hander Marilyn stills seek them out for special contracts)
They have a nice place hidden in Colorado, two dogs Pete and Repeat and two large cats. They are asked to take a new contract to protect a researcher that is on the run with his son after his husband was killed and he was accused of murdering him. They take the contract only because a notorious assassin is on the trail and they need to get to Kai before he makes a huge mistake. Some assassins do have a code and Kai is one of them, He never would have taken this contract knowing a child was involved or would he?
This story is as exciting as the first two though not as dark. Justin and Gabriel are sexy as ever in this book and Justin is witty as well. There is a good plot as the story is also being wrapped up and all questions from the previous books are answered and no thread is left hanging.
This has been a fabulous trilogy.
Kenneth Obi gives Gabriel (G Love) a deep Russian type accent, Justin a voice that is fit just for him and the narration slightly different so it is so easy to follow this story. Sure the book is good but the narration really punches it up and gives it the added excitement, perfect pacing, and charm. He sighs, huffs, stretch out words and sentences to give punch… more acting than just reading. Plus you get the added benefit of it being hands-free so you can listen while doing your chores or driving if you were as anxious to hear this as I was!
4.5 stars
What I liked
1) growly, jealous, sarcastic Justin (lol him talking with Kia- loved it)
2) ugh, the feelings these two men put out there for each other, so well written with their love that they both deserved
3) the cats & the dogs
4) Justin getting so emotional over his dog (no spoilers, but ugh, the feels)
5) the ENDING…happy tears, so many happy tears
6) hahahaha them not knowing they would need “things” for a child
What I didn’t like
1) that this was the last book in the series, I’ll miss these two
Partners and Lovers, my kind of guys!
I have always loved Justin and G Love, they have come a long way since the day they were forced to work together by their common handler. Their love for each other was unexpected and not an easy road to take. The innate sense of distrust borne out of their profession festered for a long while before they started to let their feelings show and ultimately give each other ther love and trust that only lovers can do.
They have started to settle into a new normal for them. Having just bought a house in the wilderness, their handler who from time to time would give them contracts more of the protection kind rather than what they were given before which was the killing kind, is now asking them to take on protecting a newly-widowed innocent man and his son who is on the run.
Protecting the father and son brought about thoughts of marriage and children. Will our heroes be brave and secure enough to go to the next level in their relationship? This masterpiece is full of action, wit, child’s laughter from time and time, unexpected friends and family, babies of the furry kind! I hope we can still see more of Justin and G Love with Kai and Devlin!
Congratulations Ms. Jocelynn Drake for an amazing end to this series! Awesome!
Oh,I’m so not ready to say goodbye to Justin and Gabriel!
I fell in love with them through the books of this series. It was hard not to. Because, really, what’s hotter than two cold blooded assassins get all warm and mushy in love? I loved their dynamics, their banter, their fighting, their hotness, and how they managed to make their differences work together.
Final Lover is the perfect ending to their story: soulful, action packed, hot and funny. I really enjoyed this book and I hope to catch a glimpse of these amazing characters in future books by Jocelynn Drake.
I just finished the last book of the series last night and I have to say, I liked it. I loved this series from book one and book three was a bit slower in pace, but still good. She wrapped up all the loose ends nicely and left me satisfied. I look forward to the next series she does.
While I hate to see this series end I loved the way it does. Final Lover gives the readers such a full on love letter wrap up to the romance of G Love and Special Sauce.
This story is full of everything we love about these two guys. Hot sex, bullets, bad guys and saving the innocent!
I loved seeing how their relationship has evolved and the amazing family that they have created for themselves. The ending is epic and leaves me wanting Dev and Kai’s story!!! I know I will be revisiting this series again.
Final Lover is my favorite book in the Exit Strategy trilogy.
Justin and Gabriel live together in their house that they remodel with their cats and dogs.
They accepted one last job from Marilyn. Protecting a Father and his 6yrs old son against a horde of professional assassin.
Justin and Gabriel will face a bigger danger than a bunch of assassins, they will have to face their own fears and interrogation about their future together.
Indeed, from the beginning of their relationship, they always have to fight, run and hide without really think about their future. Now they’re settled and they have plenty of time to think about of what they want…together.
It was my favorite in this trilogy, it was well written, the plot was captivating. The story was interesting, funny and sexy.
I can’t wait to read about Kai now, (If you want to know who Kai is, you should read the book)
5 Stars for my favorite Lover
First let me say that this book should not be read as a standalone. Books in this series should be read in order (including the unnumbered short Lover calling, which comes after book one) to fully understand and appreciate the long way this couple had come in relatively short time. One of my favorite tropes – enemies to lovers, forced proximity – was done perfectly in this series. The author managed to lead the reader seamlessly through the changing and groving feelings between the two, and not only the reader – the MC’s change subtly along the way, trust which is not easily given grows roots that are stronger that any of them suspected he was capable off and in consequence takes them by surprise each step of the way. You’ll get a perfect mix of action, feelings, heat and snark if you decide to give it a go. The only objection I have for this last installment is too many sex scenes. Don’t get me wrong – they are smoking hot and full of feelings – but some of them were just out of time and /or place, especially for two professionals who should be concentrating on other things. The other characters in the book (cats and dogs included) are introduced very well, interesting and intriguing enough that you’ll want to know more about them. We can probably expect a spin off in the future. I was hooked to this series from the book one and the conclusion didn’t disappoint, although I really need to know more about how Justin and Gabriel are settling in their new life and handling their new priorities. Maybe a short? Or include them in the Kai and Devlin story I’m hoping to read sometime in the future.
This is the 3rd book in the Exit Strategy Series and it is absolutely awesome, Justin and Gabriel (GLove) are just perfect for each other. In this book they find themselves helping a father and son stay alive when it was learned that a contract hit was put out on the dad. Full of witty conversation, steamy love scenes, and great characters, this is a page turner from the start. I love reading about these two crazy assassins, and cheering them on for their own HEA! This whole series is 5 stars..
