A government investigator dares to expose the sinister cover-up of a deadly plane crash in this thrilling behind-the-scenes tale of the aviation industry from New York Times-bestselling author John J. Nance
In the control tower at Kansas City International Airport, all the radar displays are red. But for the experienced pilots of North America Airlines, the thunderstorms aren’t the problem: NAA … thunderstorms aren’t the problem: NAA has been cutting costs to stave off bankruptcy, and will do anything to keep their planes in the air. Unfortunately, no matter what they do, one is on its way down.
After the aircraft collides with another plane on the Kansas City runway, in one of the worst aviation disasters of the decade, National Transportation Safety Board investigator Joe Wallingford arrives on the scene. As he studies the wreckage and pieces together the events that led to the tragedy, he realizes there’s far more at play than pilot error or equipment malfunction. Wallingford will have to risk his career–and perhaps even his life–to solve the puzzle of the crash.

working in the aviation field, it is very realistic. Mr. Nance narrative is true to life!
I found this book a great read although the character of the “bad guy” is a little too clichéd.
Interesting if you enjoy aviation genre
A Gem
Slow
Fast reading, great story with a great ending.
I really like airline stories and this is one of the best I’ve read. The story contains many facets and possible clues. It really taps your emotions.
Most of the story was fast paced, exciting, and informative regarding how the NTSB works in the event of an air disaster. Even the twisted political drama was okay. The book began to drag when so much space was devoted to the investigations and congressional hearings. Too much space was devoted at the ending that was dull and foreseeable. Everyone lives happily ever after.
The author is an expert in this field, and an exceptionally talented writer, with an excellent editor.
A fun and informative read.
Like all of John Nance’s books, loved this book. Couldn’t put it down. Will be reading another Nance novel soon.
I felt like this story could have been told in a shorter version. The characters were believable but two dimensional, their reactions to the tragedy almost blasé. I kept thinking “I’ve seen this in a movie or tv show”. I did appreciate the author’s command of the process of investigating an airliner crash. Decent book but not my favorite.
Good airline book with knowledgeable author
A page-turner which kept me up into the wee hours of the night! Excellent story and characters!
I think it’s one of his older books but still good, excellent plot, decent writing. Worth your reading time.
Too real
Realistic look at aviation, the NTSB, and the human factors of accidents and investigations. Fantastic.
Thought provoking
Loved this book from the very 1st page. Kept me glued to my tablet every chance I got. Was very sad when it was done.
A behind the scenes account of a small part of what goes on that we, as consumers, never see. When an air accident occurs how many of us give a thought as to the real cause, the age and condition of the plane, the actual weather conditions, and the truth as to what “the box” has to say? The media reports what will give them the greatest number of viewers, and sometimes must either retract statements or cover up a ‘wrong message’.
Nance is a knowledgeable writer with a gift for holding the reader’s interest, allowing the reader to believe a variety of truths that are also believed by characters in the story – until proven false.
I say it was tragic because so many people needlessly lost their lives, jobs, self-respect etc. A very good read, an eye-opener to the potential, if not true, political corruption in our society.
