Prelude in the American Gods series.Young. Wealthy. Elite. Attractive. The gentlemen’s secret society at Yale was filled with them. And Nathaniel Radcliffe, the bane of my existence, was one of them.As the right hand of the American Gods, he was conceited and arrogant. A dangerously handsome man in a tailored custom suit and shiny black oxford loafers. The classroom was our battlefield. We made a … classroom was our battlefield. We made a sport out of arguing and debating, ready to do anything in order to win over the other.
Deadly opponents, deadlier minds.
I’d sworn I’d never give him the upper hand, until…
The secret I’ve been hiding for the last three years?
He just discovered it… and now he has all the power.

A fantastic, sink your teeth into, introduction to a new series! Filthy, sexy and forbidden enemies to lovers you’ll devour! Can not wait for the next book!
Filthy Gods is the ultimate enemies to lovers story and it is sooooo HOT! Juliette is a poor girl living in the world of the rich and powerful. Although she earned her way she constantly had to struggle to keep up. Going to Yale is not cheap, so when times got tough Juliette had to pick up a summer job. While there she runs into her number one rival at Yale, who persuades her into taking their relationship to the next level.
Nathaniel is one of the elite and was born into this life. But the one thing that his power, influence, and money can’t buy him is Juliette… but all is fair in love and war.
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of novellas. Only because I feel like we can’t get the full story in such a limited amount of pages, but R. Scarlett made perfect use of every word. This is a must read and I can’t wait until the next book in the series comes out!!
I’ll pray to these gods!
Wow. Wow. Wow. This was amazing. I could not stop reading once I picked it up. Rebecca really gave us a new world to dive into. I cannot wait for the next book in this series
This is my first book by R.Scarlett.. its the beginning of the series American Gods..
it is a good book you can feel the world around the story is just starting and is building.. you’re just grasping the characters of the story..
Nathaniel is the rich guy who has it all, he is studying in Yale, he has a very bad reputations of having whatever he wanted.. girls, money etc. he and his friend were feared by everybody and also very well respected.. but behind that mask Nathaniel had more to give and more to offer.. he was ruthless and bad to the people who wanted to hurt him or those whom he loved… but he also had a heart of gold protective of what belonged to him…
Juliette is a strong heroine that is fighting for her dreams and life.. she didn’t grow in a silver platter or a pot of gold, she was just fighting to graduate with honors and be a very successful woman.. she had to work hard to be able to keep up with her school.. but nothing made her falter when it comes to her dreams not even him.. she will fight for what she wanted even if she has to resign to what she love the most, him..
he wanted her long before she even knew, he traced her movements, he follow her, even search and snoop around her.. everything comes clear once they see each other.. once they can’t keep away from what they feel…
lies, money and people want to separate them.. they cant understand their feelings and motives.. enemies to lovers.. rivals and lovers.. everything seems against them but at the same time everything conspired to keep them together..
It is a good story and i can feel the characters have more depth to grow.. still they series is just starting and i’m sure on the next books we’re going to see and feel more about Nathaniel and Juliette as well as the other American Gods..
looking forward to read more about the rest of the American Gods.. Gabe, James and Arsen..
Filthy Gods is a quick, sexy novella and our introduction to the American Gods, a group of wealthy, powerful, and genetically blessed young men who are attending Yale University. Our hero Nathaniel is not a God per say, but a close and loyal friend. Equally influential and born into wealth and social standing.
Our heroine is Juliette. The complete opposite of Nathaniel on the surface. She has fought hard for the privilege of attending Yale. She was raised bouncing from one foster home to another. She dislikes Nathaniel in the beginning thinking him smug and arrogant. They enter into a heated summer affair, each hoping to snuff the attraction to each other by working it out of their systems between the sheets. Epic fail of course.
I like that it is slowly revealed how they are both actually very similar to each other in all the ways that count. Some minor drama with Nathaniel’s mother ( not a nice lady) and a bit of the green-eyed-monster angst here as well.
Juliette was frustrating a few times. Choosing always to run away when confronted with something she was upset about. I would think as a future lawyer she would be right up in someone’s face, but this was not her reaction most of the time.
Overall, a quick and fun read. The next three books will be the American Gods and I will be reading them. Also…. what a fantastic cover! Loved it!

The relationship between gods and mortals is a tenuous one at best; it would be inadvisable for a mortal to fall in love with a god quite simply because the power that gods wield can all but destroy even the strongest of mortals. Mortals would do well to remember that gods rule over every aspect of life, proving themselves to be both bastards and saviors depending on the situation.
But the gods in R. Scarlett’s new series American Gods are not the kind with supernatural abilities. Her gods hold dominion over those around them due to their blue blooded upbringing, their family name, their swoon worthy good looks, and their never-ending bank accounts.
These gods are just as untouchable and larger-than-life as those found throughout mythology, thriving on mortals bowing down to their greatness and dirtying up beautiful women as often and as many as they so desire. And, just like the three brothers of Zeus, Poseidon and Hades rules the world, James, Gabe, and Arsen hold dominion over the world in which they live, and while Nathaniel Radcliffe may not be one of the big three, he’s still a powerful and charismatic man whose status makes him highly sought after by women and men alike.
Juliette Monroe is not a goddess; she doesn’t have the pedigree nor the funds to be a part of the exclusive world of the American Gods, but what she does have is a drive, confidence, and intelligence to succeed and to create a life for herself that up until this point she’s only dreamed of. For the past three years, she has gone head-to-head with Nathaniel Radcliffe as the number one student at Yale, challenging one another and cementing a rivalry that will only get worse the closer they get to graduation. For all intents and purposes, Juliette and Nathaniel are sworn enemies; their lives are vastly different and they definitely do not run in the same circles, but that doesn’t stop them from craving one another…from Nathaniel wanting to conquer Juliette’s body and mind…from Juliette risking it all to have her own piece of this American god, so while Juliette doesn’t have much of a choice when it comes to giving herself to this filthy god, what she realizes about him and about herself in the time they spend together is just how easily this mortal could lose herself in this god and be destroyed in the process.
I am completely enamored with the world and characters R. Scarlett has created in her American Gods series. She has constructed the ultimate blue blood setting and crafted a group of deliciously devilish and decadent gods who rule over their domain effortlessly.
Juliette and Nathaniel’s story may only be a novella, but Scarlett provides readers with a well-paced and complex plot line while also demonstrating exactly who her hero and heroine are beneath their godly and mortal statuses. Their initial interactions, Nathaniel’s proposal, and what they become to one another was expertly laid out, exploring all of the reasons that these two characters belong together despite just how opposite their lifestyles and their families seem to be.
I’m so excited to read the other ‘gods’ stories; the mortals Scarlett chooses for James, Gabe, and Arsen will have to be unlike any they have encountered before, and I anxiously anticipate exactly what that will mean for these three gods among men.
This was my first read my R. Scarlett, but it most definitely will not be my last because her words and her characters are exactly what draws me into stories and makes me want to consume as much of the author’s works as I can.
5 Poison Apples
This book provides a tempting taste of what is to look forward to in the upcoming American Gods series and gives us the steamy romance between Nathaniel and Juliette. I loved these two characters. Both are strong, smart, competitive, driven to succeed, attend Yale, and have a intense attraction to the other. Nathan has lived a life of privilege, while Juliette works hard and fights for everything she has. Seeing these two open up to each other was so incredibly moving. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and eagerly await the next American God!
This an excellent introduction to the American Gods series. I flove this book.
Nathaniel appears to be a typical rich bad boy. He has money, status, and popularity. He is also a hottie, but I digress. The one major problem he has is a bitter college rivalry with Juliette. Her life is one of struggle and hardship and the last place she expected to see at her summer job was her arch rival Nathaniel.
I love a good rivals-to-lovers storyline. Nathaniel is more than meets the eye. His need for Juliette turns him into her champion. Juliette is the opposite of Nathaniel in every way, which makes the angst between them hot and steamy.
I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.
Five filthy stars! Nathaniel will ruin you is the best way possible. Tempting and addictive!
Sweet merciful god of the bookworms! I must have done something really good because damn it this book is a jewel. It is a unique piece of heaven. Sweet and forbidden. Filthy Gods is an intimidating, perfect, intense read. R. Scarlett has done an extraordinary work. She really surprised me with this book. Her versatile, tempting and addictive writing made her a wonderful author. What.a.book!
She introduced us to her new series in the best way possible. I can’t wait to read more of the American Gods. I can’t wait to read the following books in the series, to dive into his world and to pray my heart will be intact because I’m sure they will ruin me!
Power, money, lust and sex. This book has the right amount of all the elements that make my bookworm soul crave. The pacing is fast. The plot is smoothly refreshing and brilliantly intense and the characters are strong and fierce. Filthy Gods is the best enemies-to-lovers Romance of 2018! Everything screams perfection. And the cover is hot as sin! Who doesn’t love ABS?
R. Scarlett penned an all-consuming and sinful book. Nathaniel conquered my tender heart in a heartbeat! Each chapter sent a shiver down my spine. And this journey begins with a deal with the enemy, a dirty affair with biggest rival.
Juliette is a strong woman. She is clever, fierce and determined. She is not rich like the others, she doesn’t even have a name. She only has her sharp and intuitive mind. She is one the best in her class. She sacrifices her social life to keep her scholarship but there is only one student that challenges her. He is a god, a filthy god. She hate him. It is like Nathaniel was born to make her life hard. He is fire and sooner rather than later he will burn her. He will consume her and conquer her. Accepting his deal will bring her the best and the worst of his world: a world ruled by the American Gods.
Nathaniel will consume your soul and will demolished you piece by piece. He has ruined me in the best way possible. He is loyal and extremely possessive. He is rich and his family name made his life easy until she discovered a beautiful angel in the library. Juliette tempted him like no other woman. Her intelligence seduced him. Debating with her was a pleasurable sport. Making her wrath was his hobby.
Nathaniel and Juliette’s story is unique and different. The attraction between them is intense. It is pure fire. It challenges them. They are rivals and lovers. Both want to conquer, to achieve the careers they desire and they won’t stop until every goal is achieved. Even to scratch the itch that is “distracting” them from their ultimate goal.
They said that from hate to love there is a thin line that separated both feelings. Can you hate and love at the same time? To hate or to love… that’s the question.
I absolutely recommend you this book. It is a must read!
~WRITING – PLOT – PACE~
Wowza…this book was SO good. A fantastic start to a very intriguing new series that was very nearly perfect. The writing (as is always the case with this author) was excellent. It is a fairly short book that took me about an hour to read. It moved along at a good clip. The plot was super engaging, and the ending was sweet. Now, I said NEARLY perfect. Personally, I would have preferred this book be a full-length novel. I would have liked to have seen some of their school interactions, and the romance is a bit rushed with some time jumps that cover the Summer. I would have also liked to have seen more story from Nathan’s POV. We really only get one chapter right at the end from his POV. Both those were just minor issues which only affected my rating slightly.
~HERO~
NATHANIEL…I quite liked Nathan. He was sexy. He was smart. He was sweet. He was cocky. He was arrogant. He was all about Juliette. He was a pretty damn near perfect book boyfriend.
~HEROINE~
JULIETTE…Juliette was also a very likable character. She was smart. She was feisty. She was strong. She worked her butt off. I love how she held her own with Nathan.
~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~
This one wasn’t heavy on secondary characters, but we do get introductions to the other American Gods players. I think I am most intrigued by Arsen, the broody tattooed Russian.
~HEAT LEVEL~
Medium. There are some suitably spicy sex scenes in this one. It was maybe slightly tamer than I anticipated, but given its length and fast pace, it worked well within the context of this story.
~ANGST LEVEL – SEXUAL HISTORIES~
Low. I didn’t find this one particularly angsty for most of the book. The drama near the end was the angstiest part. This couple had the whole “hate turned to love” thing down pat. Most of the hate happened before this book begins, so this felt very “insta” and they are a pretty solid couple from the start. There was a TINY SMIDGE of OW drama. There was no OM drama. Neither were virgins.
~IN THE END~
LOVED IT! It was almost perfect. Fantastic writing. Great plot. Likable main characters. Intriguing secondary characters. I don’t have much else to say about it. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book (Gabe’s). Therefore yours truly is going to give this one two solid thumbs up.
ARC RECEIVED!!!!!!!!!!!
5 DELICIOUSLY FILTHY STARS!!
THIS IS SOME GOOD STUFF GUYS.
FINGER LICKIN’ GOOD!!!
AND BTW JAMES IS MINE! ALL MINE.
When Rebecca is about to release a damn book, I’m all for it. Honestly, I’m so glad i stumbled upon her debut series because the woman knows her way to my dark soul with her words, Magic!!!!
“How does it feel to finally have me on my knees for you, Nathaniel,”
Goodness GRACIOUS! SO FRICKN HOT!!!
There’s something about the way a woman makes a man go crazy and weak gets me everytime. Their lust and desire mixed with the chemistry between each other gets me insane. This very part made me somehow felt some kind of power, i guess that was what Juliette was feeling. It was so strong and raw. Nathaniel was one intimidating fucker, cocky and so full of himself, so when he looked powerless, vulnerable & high from his desire to Juliette, it brought me such joy . Loved how insatiable he was when it comes to Juliette. Gaaawd their sexual chemistry was off the hook good. So frickn hot i could feel myself burning up. Freaking awesome read!
I devoured this book savagely. After every page i find myself more addicted arrghhh because Nathaniel was so delicious & dirty, it gave me some kind of next level butterflies. I honestly couldn’t put it down. Everything about it was utterly addictive. I never ever wanted it to end.
Loved how easy it was to read, read it all in one sitting. I screamed with frustration when it was over, i wanted to find out more about the Gods! This book was such a tease, i felt like i needed more yet it was enough, good enough it gave my heart some really good hammering. I can’t wait for the next book. Lawd!! James got me so hot, he was such a bad asshole it felt so damn good.
This will be an epic, epic series! This proves that Rebecca can literally write anything. So much talent in this woman. This book gave me butterflies from the very beginning until the last page, such a page turner, packed with filthy, delicious scenes and off the charts chemistry. Loved this book. Awesome writing Rebecca. I can’t wait to read more from you.
Holy Shit!! R.Scarlett does it again!
This story will grab you by the throat! There’s nothing like a steamy romance between two competitive rivals to spice things up and a forbidden relationship with one’s boss that definitely makes things tricky!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this story!!!!
Oh yes! This book was amazing! I love the way the story flowed, it was like silk. The characters were detaiedl and intriguing and the plot was great. There was this elegance to the way it was written, I can’t explain it. I have found myself a new series and a new author! My pnly grumble was that it was not long enough, I was not ready to say goodbye. I guess I will wait anxiously for the next story! A must read!
Nathaniel and Juliette. They both want to be on top of their class at Yale. They are enemies. One rich and powerful the other poor and honest. During a summer break they meet up and journey into a relationship that took them both by surprised. It was only to last for the summer. It was only to be for pleasure. It became much more. I loved this story. I loved both characters and also the secondary characters we get introduced to. This book also set us up for this series. I can’t wait for the rest to get their story told . Rebecca’s writing captures honest raw emotions. Bravo!
WOW! It is safe to say that R. Scarlett can write ANYTHING and in ANY genre! Although this novella was short, it was an absolutely amazing beginning to a series I already know that I am going to love! The story felt complete (although I really hope that we see more from this couple in the future) and in just a few pages, I was addicted to these characters. The plot flowed seamlessly and the introduction to the American Gods was really intriguing. I kept imagining what R. Scarlett will have in store for her readers in the future installments.
I loved Juliette as the main female protagonist. She was strong, sassy, determined and full of ambition. Nathaniel, the male protagonist, is any romance readers dream. He was arrogant and cocky, but was protective and sweet when he was around Juliette.
The romance in this book was great. It was pretty speedy, but it had to be considering all of the amazingness crammed into just a few pages. This romance had a little bit of everything-angst, secrecy, sweet moments and also intense steaminess.
I would recommend this book to readers who love alpha males and their love interests strong and independent. I am very excited to get my hands on the next books, especially because I desperately wanted this book to be a full-length novel because it was very hard to say good bye to this couple!
R.Scarlett’s versatility and imagination are indescribable. This author writes PNR and contemporary romance like nobody’s business while nailing the first and third POVs. She is a gem that is now little by little discovered by the romance community. And yes, I am really proud of this lady.
Scarlett’s latest release FILTHY GODS is a novella introduction to her series AMERICAN GODS. It’s a very steamy enemies to lovers story of two very ambitious Yale law students who are both willing to do everything for their success.
Nathaniel Radcliffe broke my steam-o-meter because this man says the DIRTIEST things with so much class and slight arrogance. Deadly blends, specially to our beloved ovaries. Christ. Saying I LOVED everything about Filthy Gods is an understatement. I was amazed by how great Scarlett plotted this new world she’s taking us to. All the luxury, the characters, and the places… it felt like the author has experienced this all and decided to share it with her readers. Very, very well done.
Rebecca, if you just have an idea of what I would give to get the next books!!!!!
5 “Semper Fidelis” Stars!
“You are a god, Nathaniel Radcliffe.
A filthy God”.
Gosssh this novella was what I needed and beyond. After read a book that had me so emotional this was a balm for my heart. I read it in one sitting.
I think Rebecca Scarlett will never cease to amaze me. I’ve followed her work with paranormal romance but she has proved that she can writes anything and I’ll undoubtedly read whatever she writes.
This story is a fantastic start and intro to American Gods. It was extremely sexy, with scorching hot scenes and a fluent writing that hooked me up.
Filthy Gods is a world full of secrets, lies, half truths, money and power. This story did fun things in my belly. I wanted more! If a novella has me so excited, I can’t wait for the following books (they should be amazing).
I’m really looking forward for more and highly recommended this author. One. Click. (Is all it takes)
GODDAMN. Rebecca Scarlett just #SLAYED the game and blew up the Enemies to Lovers genre and put EVERYONE on notice. Filthy Gods was AMAZING!! Nathaniel and Juliette were pure FIRE! The storyline was edgy and intense, the banter was out of control sexy and the connection between these two was smoldering! I am seriously addicted to this series and can not wait for the remaining books!
GAHHH!!! This story was INSANE. When Nathaniel Radcliffe discovers the secret Juliette Monroe has been keeping for three years, she has no idea what kind of games he will play to get his way. The passion and the spirited back and forth between them was electrifying. I sat consumed and never wanted it to end. Juliette and Nathaniel had hot AF chemistry and were so compelling. This was the most perfect opposites attract/enemies to lovers story ever as I was on my toes the entire time and waiting for the other shoe to drop.
In this story I especially loved that they were both each other’s exception. Juliette was the one who truly saw who Nathaniel was deep down inside. He was part of society’s elite crème de la crème and was the heir to his very own kingdom. But this brilliant and sassy woman was not only able to bring him to his knees, but was able to reduce this American God to mere mortal. Likewise, Nathaniel has always been the one thing in the way of Juliette’s focus and the man who saw past her emotional barricades. What follows is a sexy and consuming affair that will blow their minds and cross lines neither was expecting.
I seriously FLOVED this story and can not wait for the remaining books in this series. Rebecca has no idea what she did in writing this because I am now a rabid fangirl obsessed with more. Bring on the remaining books in the series! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula
THE AMAZING R. SCARLETT HAS A BRAND NEW SERIES!!!
This prequel was everything I wanted. Gahhh! It’s a perfect mix between a stand-alone story and an introduction to the American Gods series.
I freaking loved Nathaniel and Juliette. Their enemies-to-lovers story and talk-nerdy-to-me situations gave me all the feels. There was even space for some angsty parts, which I loved.
It’s incredible how well this novella worked for me. Usually I’d complain about its shortness and how it felt incomplete. Not this time! It was perrrfect. (I’d still read a full-length version though, lol.)
“Filthy Gods” is also a glimpse at the whole series and the three American Gods. It’s a chance to see if you’ll like it and if you don’t, you still get a hot af full story with no cliffhanger and a HEA.
I seriously can’t wait for the actual novels. I love this author and I feel this series will work for me.
*** I voluntarily read an early e-copy of this title.***
Well, that’s one heck of a way to start a new series. This novella was super hot and sexy – I seriously couldn’t ask for anything more!! It was amazing!!
And after reading about the amazing deliciousness that is Nathaniel, I just know we are in for a treat when we get the rest of these American Gods.
Which I really need. Like, right now.
