Prelude in the American Gods series.Young. Wealthy. Elite. Attractive. The gentlemen’s secret society at Yale was filled with them. And Nathaniel Radcliffe, the bane of my existence, was one of them.As the right hand of the American Gods, he was conceited and arrogant. A dangerously handsome man in a tailored custom suit and shiny black oxford loafers. The classroom was our battlefield. We made a … classroom was our battlefield. We made a sport out of arguing and debating, ready to do anything in order to win over the other.
Deadly opponents, deadlier minds.
I’d sworn I’d never give him the upper hand, until…
The secret I’ve been hiding for the last three years?
He just discovered it… and now he has all the power.

Enemies to lovers at its best! I gobbled this up in a few hours. I didn’t expect much, seeing as I clicked from the cover alone, didn’t read the blurb, teasers, reviews, nada. I’m so glad I took a chance on a new-to-me author. I thought this was going to be just a taste judging by the page number. This felt more like a full length novel, the author packed angst, banter, steam, and eagerness to read every character’s book within these pages. Give me all the gods. I need them right now. (This is a standalone, too. It’s pretty much everything, but leaves you addicted for more.)
Poker face Nathaniel had me guessing, wondering, drooling. And Juliette took no shit, I love a feisty, strong female lead. The chemistry between the two main characters WAS HAWT! Vajaja fan is probably needed. I LOVED how the author kept the conclusion tight to her chest, I was dreading the end, not knowing what would happen, it’s that feeling of I know something is coming, I know it.
I gotta say, I’m definitely checking out this authors other books and I’m in need of another book about the gods. Did I say that already? Anyway, I can’t wait, if you couldn’t tell. If you love rocky starts, unpredictable ends, and off the charts chemistry, you”ll love this one.
These are the books i live for and have forgotten that i love. The rich, over privileged, think they can get away with anything kind of guys and this book had it in spades.
This was a novella but i thought we got what we needed and more from a book that was a full novel. We got to meet the next characters for the rest of the series and got a little background of all the boys to set us up.
This book had it all secrets, manipulation and an awesome story line. This is about rich country clubs and rich people thinking they can get away with anything but what we learn pretty quickly is that no one gets away with anything when it comes to the American Gods and especially with someone they care about.
I wasn’t sure which way Nathaniel’s character was swaying whether he was in it for a good time or a long time but even though he was rich and didn’t care what anyone thought, he was caring and had a heart under all that steel armour and there were times i didn’t like his character but i wouldn’t want him any other way.
Juliette was so different and i think this is what made the story she was hiding the fact she was poor and trying to fit into the rich scene just to get a good education but when poor and rich collide sometimes it’s what makes an amazing love story.
Absolutely loved this novella, if you like books based in college with a hierarchy of sexy rich brooding men then this the book for you and i would highly recommend.
A massive 5 filthy stars for this, bring on the next books.
I’ve been a fan of R. Scarlett’s writing for a long time, so I was sure I would not be disappointed when she would publish this prelude of her new contemporary romance series, American Gods. I’ve been waiting for this book ever since I read that would be released, and needless to say, I adored it. There is just something about the way she crafts her stories that is alluring, never boring and surprising.
The first book of this new series that I believe will be fabulous is “Filthy Gods”, and is about one of the core members of the American Gods, a secret society at Yale University where only the richest and powerful guys who will have influence in the future of the nation are accepted.
The main male character is Nathaniel Radcliffe, a handsome guy who is feared by many because he has a strong presence because of his family but also because of his imposing and balanced personality. He’s basically the one who tries to put equilibrium among his inner circle peers. He has a sharp tongue and that is why our female lead, Juliette Monroe, doesn’t like him one bit. She is driven, determined, and won’t stop at Nathaniel’s smart debates skills; they only make her feel more passionate about who she wants to become in the future.
The tale is old as time: Nathaniel and Juliette come from different worlds. He is covered in money, while she has had a rough life and she’s barely making ends meet and paying tuition at Yale. A casual encounter far from campus and people who constantly scrutinize them will make them grow closer and face their feelings for each other; the good and the bad.
Nathaniel is a rich guy, but this doesn’t mean he is where he is because of his money. On the other hand, he achieved his goals thanks to his intelligence and skills, and this makes Juliette appreciate him despite she hates him because of said skills he has. She thinks he lives to make her angry during their heated debates in class, but she’s far from the truth because Nathaniel is commanding but he is also sweet and protective, among many positive traits he has. Juliette is a woman who had to work hard to get where she is. She is determined and smart, always trying to give her best and keep her integrity in the process, as we often see during the book.
I love the way R. Scarlett presents us places and people. Her way of telling the reader what the character is seeing or feeling or what the character does is always on point and never boring; she never gives you unnecessary details and surprises you when you least expect it. Her characters have their own personality and they are not flat: besides from Nathaniel and Juliette who are the main characters of this story, we were also introduced to the future three American Gods who are in Nathaniel’s circle: Gabe, James and Arsen. We only have glimpses of them, but let me tell you, I’m already excited to read about them because I love reading romance with bad guys as the main protagonists. I think they will get full novels instead of a novella. I don’t know why the author chose to write this prelude story as a novella and not a full-length book, but I guess because this one is set at University and the following books will be set out of it. Plus, I think the events of “Filthy Gods” are great as they are because they fit the aim of Juliette and Nathaniel’s story since they already knew each other before the story starts. Despite this is a novella, the timeline is perfect and the way they grow on each other is believable. On the other hand, if the characters had been strangers, I would have loved a longer build-up to strengthen their feelings towards each other.
I can’t wait for “Rich Boys Don’t Have Hearts” which will come out in Summer 2018 and will be about Gabe Easton.
Swoon!
Nathaniel Radcliff made me weak in the knees with his wit and his arrogant alpha attitude.
Juliette Monroe was fkng everything, intelligent, snarky, strong-willed, inspiring.
This is my first book by this author, shame on me! And I can honestly say I am more than impressed, the writing and story telling style is mind blowing, it is captivating, rich. The words fly off the page and pull you into the world of these characters. I don’t know what took me so long to read a book by R. Scarlett but I promise you I will read anything and everything, grocery list included.
I couldn’t get enough of this story, it was sexy, witty, entertaining. The banter between Nathaniel and Juliette was both humorous and oh so hot to read. I devoured every word like they’d be my last.
I am super excited to see where this series goes. If this introduction is anything to go by we are going to be blown the heck away!
Filthy Gods is one book I will be revisiting many times in the future. Nathaniel has joined my book boyfriend harem.
This book was recommended to me by a dear friend, and now I owe her my life. Seriously.
Because holy ba-jeezus…
I feel like a pervy, old cougar lusting after a barely legal, sex-on-a-stick, Mr. Tie-Me-Up-Tie-Me-Down, erotic adonis! Pardon me for a moment while I wipe the drool and dopey-eyed look off my face.
All I know is after reading this book, I WANT MORE. The author has found herself a new fan, and I cannot wait to read her other books. If they’re anywhere close to how good this book is, then I know I’m in for a filthy treat!
The extraordinarily talented R. Scarlett shows her readers another side to her writing style in her first contemporary romance, Filthy Gods, the prelude into her highly anticipated American Gods series.
This book right here is…OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS…this book is just EVERYTHING! You know one of those books that will consume you whole body, heart and soul. The kind of book that will stay with you FOREVER and one that you will immediately recommend to fellow book lovers. Filthy Gods is hands down one of my ALL-TIME favorite reads and one that I will certainly never forget! The moment I finished I wanted to immediately go back and read it all over again because it is just one of those kind of stories that you don’t want to let go… My only complaint I have is that I didn’t want to let these two go!
I have no doubt in mind that every single book in the AMERICAN GODS series is going to captivate my heart because R. Scarlett’s beautifully poetic words left breathless… Juliette and Nathaniel’s addictively consuming chemistry burned bright and for all to see (even if they thought they did a good job at hiding it). I instantly loved both of them and my goodness these two sure know how to emotionally grip a readers heart…
So excited for this series and I cannot wait to get my hands on each and every one of these AMERICAN GODS! This series is going to be breathtakingly real and my heart is going to go into overdrive! Strongly recommend pick up your copy of Filthy Gods RIGHT NOW!
“Experto Crede” Stars
L – U – S – T ! Man, oh, man. Rebecca Scarlett, what have you done to me? Did Nathaniel seriously just replace Beau? Hell to the yeah! Experto crede— trust the expert, and let me tell you guys, Nathaniel Radcliffe is THE expert. I lusted so hard after this man.
“Every inch of him was clothes in designer brands and family heirlooms, but he wore it with the confidence of a man well established in his career. He was only twenty-one and will all his advantages: wealth, family name, looks, and grades, he had it all in one powerful fist.”
Here is nothing more sexy than a powerful, confident, loyal, gorgeous man. And Nathaniel has that in spades.
Juliette and Nathaniel have spent their first three years at Yale in constant debates with or another. Always trying to beat each other with every “battle” they had. You can just imagine the sexual tension in these situations between two people that supposedly hated each other.
During the summer break, Juliette finds work at a resort owned by Nathaniel’s family to help pay for her school tuition and extra expenses. After running into Nathaniel while cleaning his room, embarrassed, he proposes a win-win solution that benefits them both. He promises to keep her secret from the rest of the university if she becomes his for the rest of the summer. He considers Juliette an itch he can’t scratch and wants to remedy, lol.
CUE SUMMER AFFAIR!!!!! Juliette and Nathaniel… **le sigh**
R. Scarlett is an expert at sexual tension, explosive chemistry, and steamy scenes. It felt like reading about a cosmic boom whenever Nathaniel and Juliette got together. You will lust and love with these two characters immensely. Rebecca’s words will suck you in in such a way that you will go out into the world and search for your own filthy god… Did I mention how filthy Nathaniel is??? **moan**
“Would you fight me the whole way through if we f***ed? Even when I’m deep inside of your p***y, owning, possessing you? My c*ck swelling, leaking inside of you? Would you fight me for making you come even then?”
I won’t dive more into the story because I refuse to give anything else away *evil laugh*, but this was the PERFECT prelude for American Gods. Yum, yum, yum. **wipes drool away** I’m dying to read more about the powerful Gabe, the reckless James, and the dangerous Arsen.
Rebecca Scarlett definitely knows how to tease us, leaving us begging for more.
AMAZING WORK, Ms. Scarlett. A lusty, sexy, steamy, loving masterpiece. I can’t wait for the next installment.
P.S. Majorie, I’m ready for that rumble. Let do this, fellow Taurus. #CashMeOutside #MeetMeAtThePark #HesMine
I just have to say that authors this year are KILLING it with the novellas, but the fact that I’ve been falling in love with all the novellas I’ve read so far just makes me wish for more. Why must you do that to us?! R. Scarlett, you are an absolute genius and I am so, so looking forward to this series. Filthy Gods was a phenomenal start to the American Gods series that will literally leave you begging for more. Novellas are tough to write, you have so much ground to cover in a limited amount of words and it’s no mystery after reading Filthy Gods that R. Scarlett is a pro at writing them.
I have to admit that I never thought I’d love Nathaniel as much as I did, the synopsis barely covers his true self. He’s definitely super rich, hot, has a lot more pull over people than I’d expect, but he has another side, people don’t see. And that’s the side of him that you’ll absolutely fall in love with. He’s loyal to a fault, protective and oh-so-very sweet and caring. Who knew? And you definitely won’t see his soft side unless Juliette is in the picture. And I just have to say that his arrogance makes him HOT!
Juliette is a woman to admire. She wasn’t brought up with a silver spoon in her mouth like many of her other peers. Taking a job at the country club to pay off her school, being in close quarters to Nathaniel was the last thing she expected for her summer. The tension between these two is unbelievable and stems from their many arguments, they’re both majoring in Law after all, what should we expect? Competition fuels these two and it’s evident not only in class but also in the bedroom. *wink-wink*
Since they’ll constantly be seeing each during the summer, they have an agreement of just casual sex; to get each other out of their systems. Rules were made that they were to be exclusive, but it didn’t prevent them from getting jealous every now and then. There’s always something more to be said when they’re supposedly just exclusive.
I have no idea how Scarlett is going to top Nathaniel. Such a multi-faceted character who beats all expectations. Past his power and arrogance, he’s absolutely perfect for Juliette. These two couldn’t be more well-matched and it’s not forced at all. Everything between them was natural and I love that he would purposely try to get a rise out of her. He found her anger, attractive and arousing, which definitely made for some rather steamy sex scenes! As strong as she is, it was real to see her vulnerabilities of her upbringing peek through. It made her a character that I found to be someone many can relate to.
Everything about this novella was perfect and I am so damn curious about the so-called American Gods and the gentlemen’s secret society at Yale. Filthy Gods is a fantastic start to a new world with the attractive and elite select few of Yale. No one will want to go against these four. Next up will be Gabe’s story and I want it now … hopefully, we don’t have to wait long.
R. Scarlett, you’ve gained a new fan, your words have me completely hooked!
Holy Shit Rebecca Scarlett has blown my mind. This book is on a different level. Amazing doesn’t adequately define the perfection that is Filthy Gods. I devoured this book and I never wanted it to end. I craved every stolen moment between Nathaniel and Juliette.
First let me explain that I loved the dynamics of their relationship. Juliette initially hates Nathaniel. He is rich, power, and everything Juliette despises. He’s constantly challenging her at Yale and meets her toe to toe with each debate, and is always just a little bit better than her. He is ultimately in the way of her goals and dreams. But when she takes a summer job a country club, she surprised to see him there. What’s even more surprising is the offer of them fucking each other out of their system.
And OMG! The sex between these two were hot as fuck. Nathaniel is controlled and all powerful without even muttering a word. As much control as Juliette exudes, she defenseless when it comes to Nathaniel. Its the same things that lights her anger and disdain for him are the same things that ignite a desire for him unlike anything she has ever experienced. As the weeks go by with them stealing nights together and hot sex in empty rooms, the lines are blurring. Juliette is falling helplessly in love with Nathaniel. He’s understanding the man he is while he accepts her for her past and the smart, driven woman before him. I swooned like a lost puppy over these two.
I love what R. Scarlett has done with this book and it has made me that much more excited for the rest of the books of this series. This had made me desperate for Gabe, James, and Arsen’s book. The American Gods. I loved how she set up the series with this book. I got just enough of a backstory about them to be beyond curious. The suspense is going to kill me. The writing is just so amazing. Read this book.
A classic tale of a rich, privileged, gorgeous and brilliant man who desires an equally brilliant but underprivileged, impoverished, beautiful and feisty woman. They are academic rivals at Yale. She wears her disdain for him like armor. He taunts her at every turn. It takes a summer job to finally bring them together. She works for his mother at a country club. He’s there, watching and waiting, to make her his. And, he does just that by proposing a summer fling to rid themselves of their distraction for each other. However, the oppisite happens. She falls in love and his mother threatens to destroy her son if the fling doesn’t end. She walks away because she can’t be the one who destroys him. He knows her sacrifice. He declares his love for her, gives her a future and a happily ever after.
Nathaniel is everything!
For a prequel this set me on FIRE! I have only ever read PNR from R.Scarlett but her first adventure into Contemporary Romance is nothing short of amazing.
Filthy Gods is the perfect mix of a great story while setting the stage for the American Gods series that will have us all on the edge of our seats from start to finish. This story centers around the start of the relations between to Yale students Nathaniel and Juliette. Coming from two different backgrounds, these two should be like fire and water but when they come together it is nothing short of magic.
I am sure that this series will be shooting to the top of my must read list for the rest of the year!
“Filthy Gods” By R Scarlett was a very enjoyable New-Adult romance that ticked all my boxes.
It was an easy read told from Juliette’s POV and tell the story of Nathaniel and Juliette when they happen to collide one summer when on break from Yale where they both attend school.
So, Juliette takes a job as a maid at a prestigious old school country club for the summer.
unbeknown to herself Nathaniel’s Mother is her new boss and after discovering Juliette working at his family’s business Nathaniel offers Juliette an arrangement; he will keep her financial situation a secret but in return, he wants them both to explore the attraction further that currently sizzles between them both.
Setting in motion a summer of sneaking around and discovery between our two young lovers from opposite backgrounds.
So despite the blurb here I found this one to be quite low angst; this seemed to have more of a rom-com vibe to it than the blurb here actually suggests.
The enemy feeling here is very shortlived; especially as I get the impression it was more one-sided.
“Filthy Gods” gave the overall effect that it was Juliette with the main beef and Nathaniel was frankly a tad oblivious in my opinion to the whole thing.
He actually saw Juliette as a fantastic debate opponent and liked the fire she directed his way.
There was no animosity from his direction at all.
And that heat is not just kept to the classroom as both Juliette and Nathaniel proceed all summer to dial up the heat here by a few hundred notches.
This has very few secondary characters; mainly just relying on our main duo to hook and keep its reader.
And they do manage to do a fantastic job of that all by themselves; no aide needed here.
Despite being somewhat predictable in places I still found “Filthy Gods” to be such a positive reading experience.
I consumed this in one sitting and am happy to recommend this fun sexy story to my fellow romance readers.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of “Filthy Gods (American Gods 0.5)” of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Nathaniel is a blunt man, “all those heated arguments , watching your eyes flare, the fire burning inside of you, it got me hard so many times…” Nathaniel takes taking care of what’s his seriously, “no one hurts what’s mine, Juliette.” His eyes shone so fiercely, so viciously.” I am so excited to see what this series has in store, if the rest of the books are anything like this one then I am so freaking excited.
Ok read. Nothing outstanding. Ok characters, and story line. Quick read. Nothing profound or deep. Quite a bit of telling instead what happened instead of letting the reader experience it.
Definitely more for HS or college girls. I won’t read more of the series.
A Must Read!!! Filthy Gods was exciting and full of secrets and lust! This is the prequel to the series, it’s a quick read. I demolished it in about an hour and a half! I can’t wait for more from these characters! I was quickly lost in this world of the rich and powerful. I loved the Hate/Love competitive relationship between Nathan and Juliette! Nathan is an arrogant bastard who is too smart for his own good! He’s a dominating alpha male with the body body of a greek god! I call Dibs!! Juliette is headstrong, and intelligent, a young woman trying to make her dreams a reality. She has a secret she is hiding and when Nathan finds out her secrete he makes her a deal. This is where things get heated! whew! Be ready to change your panties because, Scarlett knows how to deliver lust! There were some sweet surprises I loved! I’m not going to ruin the fun! You have to read it!! I will just say this short story was perfect in every way! My kinda filthy and Sweet! This was a new author for me! I just loved this book so much I can’t wait for the rest of this series and to see what else she has written.
“I thought I knew him, how he enraged me and then he brought our another, hidden emotion. Lust. Want. Hope.”
An unbelievably sinful, yet powerful introduction to what will absolutely be a must read series for EVERYONE. Classic, beautifully written, but an underbelly of hotness that swept me right off my feet!
Nathaniel exuded power and possessiveness with a hint of sweet and what rolled around as the perfect storm of a story!! Could…Not…Put…It…Down.
“Nathaniel was like a pressure point in my body. One look from him, one scalding hot glance, and my body reacted to him like oil and fire. We were combustible and a destructive force to both of us.”
As different as could be, yet a perfect match, they warred with themselves, fought their obstacles against all odds to become a power couple neither foresaw coming!! The push, the pull, the hiding their true feelings left you hoping for it all to work out in the end. Just saying, you won’t be disappointed!!
“I was the maid; he was the owner’s son. I was the poor girl; he was a god. He wasn’t mine. He would never only be mine.”
Fanning myself throughout, they just intoxicated me in the very best way…both very strong characters, and meeting the supporting cast of the rest of the gods had me wanting all of them at once to devour!! I cannot wait for more from this series, it will be on everyone’s list!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!
“With one look from me, he stepped closer and took my face in his powerful hands. His ocean eyes, dark and hard-held the universe in them. A universe he was offering to me.”

Liked this a lot but it should have been a full novel and had more to the story about them. You had info about them but it also felt like there could have been more. It need his POV in some of it especially after the break up a scene, with his mother, or his friends. It is a good story but could have been so much more.
This was the first book I’ve read by this author. I was pulled in by the blurb and I think the story had plenty of potential but it fell short for me. It wasn’t a bad read but I felt like story was a little rushed and that the author told me what was happening in the story instead of showing me. She did a great job of making me curious about the other charcaters so I am very interested in the next books in this series.
Oh I loved it! FILTHY GODS is a prequel for the series American Gods and although is short is enough to make you want more. It introduce us to that world and we found out who the American Gods are ( James, Gabe and Arsen). But this book is focus on Juliette and Nathaniel. They were great together. Since chapter one I was hooked. It was a novella and enough to tell their stories because the author just go straight to the point, but I love them so much that I kinda want more and more pages of them. It was my first book by this author and I already want more of her work. It totally worth it. I want the other books soon!!!!
