Prelude in the American Gods series.Young. Wealthy. Elite. Attractive. The gentlemen’s secret society at Yale was filled with them. And Nathaniel Radcliffe, the bane of my existence, was one of them.As the right hand of the American Gods, he was conceited and arrogant. A dangerously handsome man in a tailored custom suit and shiny black oxford loafers. The classroom was our battlefield. We made a … classroom was our battlefield. We made a sport out of arguing and debating, ready to do anything in order to win over the other.
Deadly opponents, deadlier minds.
I’d sworn I’d never give him the upper hand, until…
The secret I’ve been hiding for the last three years?
He just discovered it… and now he has all the power.

How on earth did this book stay hidden from me for so long?
This novella is a perfect introduction to the series. R. Scarlette made us fall in love with Nathaniel and Juliette, and at the same made us go gaga about Gabe, James & Arsen.
The plot is so brilliantly written. It surely has built up my excitement for the series.
This book tells the story of Juliette, a Yale student. She has to make ends meet by working at a gentlemen’s club. Much to her dismay her arch nemesis, Nathaniel happens to be the owner’s son.
From the moment they stumble upon each other at the club, Nathaniel decides he wants her, no matter what. From there begins their fiery tale.
When it comes to novella’s, there is really little scope for authors to work with but I felt like we got the perfect blend of romance, steam, emotions, intensity. Do I wish it was longer? ABSOLUTELY.
I can’t wait for the rest of the books to come out!
We are all waiting eagerly, I’m sure!
4,5 stars
The only drawback of the book, it is short. I want more.
Nathaniel and Juliette They study at the same university, but they do not like each other, but they are physically very attracted to each other. (you will feel it from the first pages).
Juliette needs money, so she gets a job as a maid in a luxurious mansion. And guess who? Right! To Nathaniel’s family. The scene of their meeting — oops, it was hot. Thanks to this, she inadvertently reveals her secret to Nathaniel. I was pleased with what Nathaniel had done in this case.
Their chemistry, the tension between them, forces you to continue reading the book. I laughed and even shed a tear. Or can we talk about those cute scenes when Nathaniel gave Juliette a foot massage? Ah, the book really evoked different emotions.
But what’s more interesting about this book is Nathaniel’s friends. There weren’t many scenes with them, but I was so damn interested in them that I’m just waiting for their story. Even though they didn’t figure much in the book, you guys can’t get them out of your head.
Rich guys, heroes with character, different social levels, chemistry, passion.

::Nathaniel and Juliette::
“ –. , .”
Filthy Gods is a prequel to the American Gods Series about a group of young, rich, powerful and attractive gentlemen that attend Yale and all part of a secret society. Intriguing enough, right? We are first introduced to Nathaniel and his super hot summer with Juliette in this enemies to lovers story. This novella gave me Erin Watt Paper Princess vibes and I fell in love with the characters pretty quickly. Their undeniable chemistry made the story super addictive and I can’t wait for Gabe’s book which should be out this year
“ , , . ’ , . , .“
A new to me author!! This author and this book had been recommended to me by a couple of reader friends, so I thought I would see what all the fuss was about! Now I want more!!!
I went into this book thinking, okay it’s not my usual bag, not the first in my list but I will give it a go! Well shame on me!! Shame. On. Me!!
Angsty and sooooo hot! The chemistry between Nathaniel and Juliette is off the charts but so is the animosity!…….to start with!!!! Holy shizz!
Absolutely loved it! Looking forward to more!
STEAMY! RIVETING! DELECTABLE!
First time R Scarlett reader here and heaven help me, WHAT A BOOK to start off with!!! I was completely invested in this book! This world! These characters!!!
Nathaniel Radcliffe had me hooked from the very start! So powerful and sexy yet protective of certain people in his circle! I also noticed the chink in his armor immediately! That ONE thing that could or would bring him to his knees!
I loved Juliette! Her feistiness and determination is EXACTLY what I adore in my heroines!!! Someone who comes from nothing and stops at absolutely nothing to make something of herself!
But the two of these together!!! Had this reader heart SWOONING!!
This introduction into The Filthy Gods has me drooling and I CAN’T WAIT for more!!!
This was my first time reading R. Scarlett and I absolutely loved it.
The writing is beautiful and the story/characters were captivating from page 1.
I need the entire series to be released ASAP; the American Gods will be bad for my health but I regret nothing.
Their introduction left me on the edge of my sit and all other glimpses at them throughout this story only made me giddier.
Oh, to love the bad boys…
100% recommend.
Filthy Gods was 168 pages of pure perfection. I didn’t think it would be possible for a book of this length to have so much angst, but boy did R. Scarlett prove me wrong. All the words in the world seem poor when it comes to describing how much I adored Nathaniel Radcliffe and Juliette Monroe. One of my favorite couples, one of my favorite books.
Juliette is beautiful, strong and incredibly smart. She’s a college student at Yale but, unlike most of her classmates, she doesn’t have money spilling out of her pockets. Quite the opposite. She’s poor, trying hard to stay afloat, but no one knows her secret. No one but Nathaniel Radcliffe. As fate would have it, she’s working as a maid at his mother’s country club.
In order for Nathaniel to keep Juliette’s secret, he wants something in return. A summer affair, to be exact. His lust for her makes her a liability, a distraction from his goals and he thinks sleeping with her will rectify that. He knows Juliette has the same “issue” as him, so he doesn’t hesitate to bargain for his silence.
Nathaniel is successful, rich, incredibly handsome, a filthy god. It’s obvious from the very start that his feelings for Juliette run much deeper than he wants to admit. Throughout the book he becomes her protector, her safe haven. He opens up to her, defends her, loves her. He’s a man that knows what he wants and doesn’t play hard to get, and I appreciate that about him.
Their relationship didn’t come without hardships, but let’s be honest here: easy is boring (when it comes to books, of course). This book has so much angst, so much steam and it’s so so SO well written.
R. Scarlett has gained a new fan. I can’t wait to read more awesome books from her. She’s truly talented, and I’m so happy to hear she’s back at writing again!
5 stars
Holy sweet jesus!! This book… Wow! I have been fan of this author’s pnr series and this jus book reminded me why i love her in the first place. Filthy Gods is everything you ask for in the Enemies to Lovers genre and an fantastic beginning to a brand new contemporary romance series and Ms. Scarlett did not disappoint. She totally blew me away and left me begging for more! Nathaniel and Juliette are hot damn. Their chemistry is totally off the charts intense and sexy!!
This story is everything and more and i really can’t wait for next book in this series!
“You’re a god, Nathaniel Radcliffe… a filthy god.”
Much like its title suggests, R. Scarlett’s Filthy Gods is a decadent immersion into the privileged life of some of the world’s most elite sons. It’s a prequel novella to the forthcoming American Gods series, though it’s strong enough to stand on its own two feet.
Juliette isn’t like most of the other students at Yale. She’s had to claw and fight her way toward everything she’s earned. Nathaniel Radcliffe represents everything she’s fighting against. He’s rich beyond comprehension, intense and intelligent… and Juliette’s greatest rival. So when he presents a proposition to keep her underprivileged life a secret, it is with great reluctance that Juliette accepts. Though, as she soon finds out, things aren’t always as they seem.
There’s one hallmark I always use when differentiating between good writers and great writers, and it’s where they begin their story. Scarlett starts this book in the exact right place, and it is utter perfection. From the very first sentence, I was drawn into this world. And what a world it is.
Regarding the protagonists, the push-pull dynamic between Juliette and Nathaniel is brilliantly crafted, and Scarlett manages to accomplish the one thing that so many who attempt to write this genre attempt but fail to achieve: a partnership of two equals.
“He stared at me like I was precious, like I was the stars he had searched for and I couldn’t breathe…”
There is so much more to Nathaniel than meets the eye. And when Juliette starts to see him for who he truly is, the real story telling begins. But the reader sees glimpses of his true nature all along. That Scarlet could achieve this feat without writing any chapters from Nathaniel’s perspective (until the very end) shows how adept she is as a storyteller.
This was my first time reading R. Scarlett, but it will not be my last. And I hope that someday soon, we’ll be graced with the remaining books in the American Gods series, because these are stories just aching to be told.
Warning about this book. This is the prequel to Scarlett’s American God’s series. It sets up an interesting story of powerful men in a secret society at Yale. It was published in 2018 and the first full length book was supposed to be published that same year but never was. From the chatter that I saw online, it seems as though the author has ghosted everyone and the three full length books in the series never materialized.
So, I wouldn’t recommend reading this book until the other books are published (if they ever are). No sense in whetting your appetite for the story if it is never published.
Looooved this!
I couldn’t put this down. I loved Juliette and Nathaniel! Their chemistry was palpable and gave me all the feels. My only complaint is the book wasn’t long enough, but as it’s a prequel, I can forgive that. Can’t wait for the next ones
Nathaniel can be my filthy god any day
Great start to the series. Looking forward to the next book.
Even though this is just a novella, I kept crying more, more, more! From the cover to the story, I was in awe of how easily I slid into R Scarlett’s world and wanted to remain there forever. The relationship between the main male characters reminded me of the movie The Covenant. The American Gods and the sons of Ipswich has similar traits. They were a group of males who were popular, desired, and otherworldly.
Now let’s look at the main protagonists. Juliette and Nathaniel are combustible. I don’t blame Nathaniel when he says that their attraction has caused distractions for them both. The two of them are incredible together. Nathaniel has a wicked mouth and even more wicked thoughts. But can you have a physical relationship without feelings developing?
Both Juliette and Nathaniel are ambitious and driven individuals and they recognise these traits in each other. They are not afraid to fight for what they want. They are willing to do whatever it takes to be the best. But they are from different worlds. I love Juliette’s determination to better her situation and create a brighter future for herself. Nathaniel is incredibly controlled and hides his true self. Perhaps this is why misunderstandings occur between the two of them.
I love the friendship between the American Gods. They are loyal and supportive of each other which is endearing. You wouldn’t want to cross them though. They would tear you in two. I didn’t want the story to end. I am eagerly awaiting the next story in this American Gods’ series. I can’t wait!
R.Scarlett with her newest NA Romance… a young naive Juliette who cant deny the attraction when it came to Nathaniel Radcliffe.. a man who is hungry for power, success and silence…
The book was fresh..a young love which is steamy..hope and dream..
Everything is mysterious but yet its out there…I had so much expectation about the book and looking forward to read more..
This was my first book by the lovely R. Scarlett and it certainly will not be my last!!
This book was full of angst, lust, love, power and intelligence. From page one I was sucked into the vortex that is Juliette and Nathaniel! They were enigmatic in the way they challenged each other and understood each other like no other. It was such an intriguing book. But even with the obvious power dynamic between Juliette and Nathaniel’s backgrounds, Nathaniel never made Juliette feel inferior or less than. Seeing the way Nathaniel claimed Juliette as his own, they way he protected her and cherished her was a sight to behold. And the way Juliette slowly lowered her walls and finally let someone in. Someone that not only accepted her completely for who she is but saw what she could not and showed her just how truly special she was.
This book was absolutely incredible and I cannot wait for the other American Gods books!!
This was such a fantastic novella. It’s hard to write a review for it without giving much away because it is a short read. I devoured it in one sitting and it definitely left me wanting to read the rest of the books in this series. I’m so ready for more of Nathaniel, James, Gabe and Arsen. Nathaniel had his sights set on Juliette even before she realized it. It was just a matter of time before he made her his knowing she would be ready for the challenge. This story had great characters, steamy scenes, drama, betrayal and so much more. I can’t wait to read “Rich Boys Don’t Have Hearts”
This book was ok , it just left you wanting more
Young, rich, handsome, privileged and powerful. This is Nathaniel Radcliffe. Born into a wealthy family, with a surname of weight, with all the doors open for a bright future and the world at his feet. A dedicated student with good academic performance, one of Yale’s celebrities, a member of an exclusive secret society. And Juliette’s number one enemy.
Nathaniel represents everything Juliette abhors. Fighting from a young age to survive, the orphaned girl knows that the only chance for a better future is through study, and for that she devotes herself intensely, but with the cut in her scholarship it becomes increasingly difficult to keep herself and continue studying. On a campus full of wealthy students, whose only the fact of having an illustrious surname is a guarantee of a good future after graduation, Juliette does not accept the fact that she has to struggle and strive for a good future, because the rich will always have priority. Nathaniel then is this embodiment of everything she hates and finds unfair. Their interaction has always been fueled by fights and arguments, as they are both members of the debate team.
Taking advantage of the holidays to earn some money and get to pay for her last year, Juliette gets a job as a maid in a very refined and select club. A good job, with a good salary, away from the Yale students (who do not know she’s poor, think she’s an heiress) and mostly away from her big rival. Or so she thought.
Nathaniel owns the place. In exchange for his silence, he proposes an agreement to Juliette: an affair during the summer. As love and hate are the faces of the same coin, these two embark on a dangerous game, where enemies discover that they are not as different as they thought, and that sometimes the best love stories are born from the most unlikely situation.
I loved the book. The couple is intense. Juliette is strong and determined, fight for what she wants, has an ambition without size. I understand her restraint and resentment, but sometimes she’s a bit unfair, ends up having a kind of prejudice with the rich. Nathaniel exudes an air of authority, but at the same time is cute and passionate. At no point is he snobbish because of his condition. he has a goal, he traces a strategy and part to conquer what he wants, without excuses, without error and with success.
I was curious to know the story of the American Gods, Nathaniel’s three friends and members of the secret society. The book features twists and turns, secrets, mysteries, a “villain” who will do anything to keep the lineage of her surname, a classic bitch, an inconvenient senator and a hidden romance.
Nathaniel and Juliette begin the book as arch enemies. But a little fact she did not know and the reader right away can see is important to the plot and future of the two. Is it that with so much difference between them, so many problems being thrown and a big misunderstanding, do they still maintain that status, or have they updated their current relationship? It is up to the reader to find out. And I can say that you will not regret it.
This is my first R. Scarlett book, and I have to say it was very intriguing. I loved the world she created and am very interested in knowing more about these American Gods.
I liked that Nathanial and Juliette knew each other before this started. It made the way they came together interesting, the emotions between them enticing. It was quite steamy and I enjoyed their constant debating and fighting, although I wouldn’t have minded more of their actual words instead of just saying that they did.
This was a great little novella and I can’t wait to read more in this series.
“So in love with a man who had been my enemy and now was everything to me.”
This book will not disappoint you!
This was a nice and sexy quick read. I love how Nathanial was always into Juliette and she was so consumed with the hate she felt towards him that she had no clue, the whole time he was truly attracted to her. I would have love to experience more on Nathanial pov.
