‘Tell me what you need,’ I ask, lacing my fingers with hers. The simple act of holding her hand makes my blood pump faster.‘I need you to be careful with me and Max,’ she whispers.Pace Drake loves sex, and he makes no apology for getting what he wants, when he wants it. But when he meets single mom Kylie, he’s enthralled by her and begins to question his standard operating procedure. Kylie’s … procedure. Kylie’s depth and determination make the hookups that fill his weekends seem empty and shallow. She doesn’t want or need anyone to take care of her and that only makes him want to care for her more.
Kylie’s trust in men has vanished. The last man she was with played ding-dong-ditch-it with her uterus and now the infant son he left her to raise alone is the only man she has time for.
Pace wants to prove to her that he is one of the good guys, but can she really trust that his days of hitting it and quitting it are gone forever?
A powerfully sensual and dangerously provocative novel from the author of Filthy Beautiful Lies.

This is easily my favorite series by Kendall. I loved this installment of it for the simple fact that nothing is sexier than a man who steps up and raises another guys kid. If you haven’t read this series then you need to get on it and dive in. Each book is a page turner and will consume your whole attention. The brothers are hot and watching them fall in love with their girl is addicting. This is Kendall at her best and I couldn’t be more addicted to her words if I tried.
Audio review from 2018
I really enjoyed this story. I shared it almost start to finish with my husband also which was fun!
Great story line! Loved the ending and epilogue!
This was a fun story. There was a strong connection between Pace and Kylie. So strong that things between them moved ridiculously fast. I did like Pace’s devotion and the way he bonded with Max. Kylie was independent and relatable. Of course, there were plenty of things that made me angry too, but that’s all personal preference. While this book wasn’t life-changing, it was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
Be Prepared For A Few Tears! Pace & Kylie’s Story Pairs A Self-Centered Playboy Bachelor With An Older & Very Independent Single Mom. Their Sweet & Steamy Romance Is About Perseverance.
This is book three of the four-book Filthy Beautiful Lies series. The series includes:
1. Filthy Beautiful Lies (Colton & Sophie’s story begins)
2. Filthy Beautiful Love (Colton & Sophie’s story concludes)
3. Filthy Beautiful Lust (Pace & Kylie’s story)
4. Filthy Beautiful Forever (Collins & Mia’s story)
This series follows the three Drake brothers. Collins, Colton, and Pace are all intense personalities. They lost their mother in their youth; Collins was fifteen, Colton twelve, and Pace just nine at the time of her passing. She had been warm and loving, and losing her certainly had an impact on the boys. The trio manages to maintain a sense a family in her absence, all living in the L.A. area. Their father had been a philanderer, not much of an example. He lives and works on the East Coast and rarely sees his sons, but is known to always have younger women on his arm. His sons would like to see him retire, but he isn’t ready for that yet. The brothers each have a trust fund to rely upon, but all three choose to work.
Collins, thirty, is the eldest. He is on the serious side, exercising control in everything he does. He is in business and has a live-in supermodel girlfriend, Tatianna. It was originally an arrangement made of convenience, and though Tatianna had pushed for more, Collins seems unhappy. Tatianna’s career keeps her busy, and their relationship appears to be on rocky ground.
Colton, twenty-eight, is a workaholic. He is in investment banking and runs a non-profit on the side – his pet project to develop a sustainable community in rural Africa. He is the middle child, so he is naturally a people pleaser. Though every bit an alpha and like Collins in terms of control, he has a tendency to be a little too forgiving. He had a whirlwind romance with Sophie last summer, and the two have just gotten engaged.
Pace Drake, twenty-five, is the fun-loving youngest brother. This is his story.
Books one and two are Colton and Sophie’s story. Pace’s story is in book three, followed by Collins’ in book four.
IN THIS BOOK:
Pace Alexander Drake, twenty-five, is the fun-loving youngest Drake brother. He and Colton are often mistaken for twins, but Pace is a softer version of his older brother. He is a relentless flirt, having perfected his pickup skills over the past twelve years. Since he can have a woman whenever he wants, he hasn’t felt the need to pick just one and settle into a relationship. He never brings a woman home in order to avoid such entanglements. Though he can see himself eventually getting married, he is happy to devote himself to his career for now. Pace works for himself as a real estate investor, buying distressed properties. He could have the fancy beach home like Collins or Colton, but he chooses to leave his trust fund money untouched, instead living upon what he himself earns. He enjoys his seaside condo, though it is so quiet at home that he spends many of his evenings with one or another of his brothers.
Kylie Sloan, twenty-nine, hadn’t planned on becoming a single mom, but she cannot imagine her life without little Max. At one year old, he is quite the handful. She doesn’t have a support system – her mom is too busy with her own life and Kylie hasn’t had a relationship with her father since her parents divorced in her youth. Elan, Max’s father, couldn’t get away fast enough once he learned about Kylie’s pregnancy. He and Kylie had dated for six months and she had envisioned a possible future with him – until she told him that her birth control had failed. But Kylie is strong and independent; she doesn’t need to rely on anyone and prefers it that way. She hasn’t been with a man since Elan and has no plans to change that anytime soon. She has a deficit in the trust department when it comes to men, and when she finally does venture into dating again it will be with a man who takes Max into account, too. Though Max needs a male role mode, Kylie won’t expose him to a man that will soon disappear from his life. Max’s needs come first.
Kylie had moved to L.A. a few years ago and was fortunate when Colton Drake hired her to run his charity over a year ago. Colton generously built her an office over her garage to enable her to work from home and be close to Max. Sophie has been working with Kylie since last summer, and the pair has grown close. Though she did not have a nanny in Filthy Beautiful Love, here Kylie has Lynn to help out with Max. Note that in Filthy Beautiful Love, Kylie and Colton had gone to college together, which means that Kylie had gone to Harvard, and both studied business. Kylie had worked at a marketing firm on the East Coast before relocating to L.A a few years ago. Colton had been starting his non-profit, Highpoint Associates, at the time and heard through a mutual friend that she was looking for a job. She had been working for Colton for a few years. This book doesn’t match perfectly. It has Kylie working for Colton just over one year (instead of a few years) and never mentions the other details.
Pace and Kylie first met in Filthy Beautiful Love, at a pool party hosted by Colton and Sophie. Pace had been captivated not just by Kylie, but by Max as well. Pace was a natural with the baby, surprising even his brothers. He hadn’t been able to forget his fascination with Kylie and her son Max. He didn’t understand Kylie, but he wanted to. Kylie had been attracted to Pace, but she knew all too well about his busy love life, and knew that he was undoubtedly the wrong man for her and Max. Even if it did tug her heartstrings when Pace had spent the afternoon playing with Max, Pace was not capable of settling down. And even if he had suggested something more like a relationship, she was convinced he would regret it down the road. For Kylie, actions speak louder than words.
When Highpoint Associates holds a black tie fundraiser, Pace and Kylie see one another for the first time since meeting at the pool party over the summer. Pace cannot let go of his interest, and when Kylie turns him down, the sting of rejection is foreign to him. He tries to forget and move on, but the fun times that had kept him so entertained his whole life suddenly begin to feel meaningless. Something about Kylie speaks to him. He doesn’t mind that she is a mother – and indeed that might be part of the attraction. She is strong and capable, yet soft and tender. She is so much more than the empty women he had spent years chasing. But Kylie has made up her mind about Pace, so it is up to him to prove her wrong.
Pace faces an uphill battle with single mom Kylie, but unforeseen circumstances give him a lucky break to show her just how serious he is about her and Max. He bumbles it a bit, but he eventually learns from his mistakes. Even if Kylie does give him a chance, there are other obstacles that threaten to destroy his chances to make Kylie and Max his own. There are several tears as their journey comes to a close. The couple eventually find a happy ending.
Fans will note that Collins has become increasingly withdrawn and unhappy in this book, pointing to trouble with Tatianna. His story follows in book four.
Pace and Kylie’s story pairs a self-centered playboy bachelor with an older and very independent single mom. Pace has never had to worry about taking care of anyone else. As the baby of the family, he was likely always a little spoiled. His good looks likewise allowed him to win the ladies without much effort. Though he hasn’t relied upon his trust fund, he certainly has the luxury of falling back on it. In contrast, Kylie knew what sacrifice meant when Elan walked away from her almost two years ago. She never dwells upon her hardship, though. She doesn’t feel sorry for herself. She is a pillar of strength, working tirelessly to provide and care for Max. Despite their differences, however, Pace and Kylie have one big thing in common: they are both lonely. Pace doesn’t realize just how alone he feels until Kylie and Max enter his life and everything else feels empty. Kylie is too busy give much thought to her loneliness, but it is there when she has the time to slow down and think about her life. Pace’s transformation is rather remarkable, and his connection with Max is adorable. They make a lovely little family.
Be prepared for a few tears. Pace and Kylie’s sweet and steamy romance is about perseverance. It is also about the joy and sense of wonder that a baby brings along. It celebrates the connection between a father figure and a child, and highlights the void that a child can fill in a man’s life. Pace’s natural ability to relate to Max and entertain him ends up stealing Kylie’s heart and giving them all the chance to form a new family. Their story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Pace and Kylie. I rate this book four stars.
