Every fighter is drawn to the violence, the release that a perfect hit can bring.
But very few are drawn to the pain.
Rex Carter lives behind a wall of indifference. The demons from his childhood act as an anesthetic, keeping him distant from emotional connections. Only the ache from a knock to the jaw, the sting of a tattoo needle, or the heat from a piercing can jolt him back from the … back from the numbness. The fiery pain is all he can feel, and nothing compares to the burn.
Or so he thought.
Working in a Las Vegas bar isn’t Georgia McIntyre’s dream. But she hopes it’ll be an end to the nightmare.
She’s watched him, followed him and kept tabs, all in preparation for this moment: to make amends and share the secret she’s been carrying since she was a kid. But she didn’t count on the feelings that seeing him again would stir up, the vacant look in his stormy-blue eyes, and his perfect body now mutilated by ink and metal.
And she knows why. She’s lived his pain every single day, since the day he left.
Changed by time, Rex doesn’t remember the girl from his past. If only she could do the same.
Will she get the absolution she’s spent her life seeking?
Or will he continue Fighting to Forget?

After reading the first two books in this series I was having a bit of a hard time deciding which one I liked best, but no more!!!! Fighting to Forget is by far the best in the series so far!!!! I seriously wish I could give it more than 5 stars!!!!
I have really liked Rex from the beginning of the series & wondered what his deal was but OMG what a story!!! What a devastating story for both he & Mac.
I saw several reviews that were really disappointed in the direction the author took Mac, but it is my feeling that when someone has lived all their life trying to right the wrongs perpetrated on not only themselves but someone else & they end up hurting that one person that is the most important person in their life (seemingly irreparably) then maybe they would, themselves, break.
I hope this will intrigue you enough to want to read this story because, to me, it was such a heart-wrenching, heart-warming story with lots of twists to keep the reader interested.
This book has many triggers, if you’re sensitive to these you may want to skip this one. Rex and Gia met when she was eight and he was ten. He suffered horrifically and she was his only solace. 14 years later the meet again but he doesn’t remember her. Will they be able to help heal each other from the scars of their pasts? This is a very emotional and disturbing story, but I enjoyed it.

Fighting to Forget was well written providing depth and substance in the storyline as well as character development.
True to the series, the plot was dark and troubling. Salsbury tackled head on the issues of sexual abuse and the long term affects on a child. Simultaneously, Salsbury provided a glimpse of drugs and crime sprinkled throughout as a secondary plot.
Even with tons of emotional baggage locked up tight within himself, Rex Carter was a lovable hero. Externally, he was gorgeous, focused, successful in both music and professional fighting, and a loyal friend to his fighting family. Internally, he had daily struggles that were kept hidden from the world. Rex had an instant connection with Georgia McIntyre, a local waitress who became a comfort in his turbulent internal world.
Salsbury took us through their journey while slowly revealing the pieces of their past that brought them to the present. The main premise was revealed early; however, Salsbury incorporated twists and turns throughout to keep us captivated as well as on our own emotional roller coaster.
Similar to the other books in the series, the supporting cast was consistent and played a primary role in the storyline, increasing depth and substance to the book.
All in all, it was a great read and I look forward to the next book in the series, Fighting the Fall.
What a beautiful love story between between Rex and Mac, these two have endured such a hard life, this story is full of pain, sadness and suffering but a wonderful love story is born from it, narrated by the great Erin Mallon and Ryan West, this is a great read.
Holy deep emotional, heartbreaking, shocking smokes of a good book.. I may never want to live one of J.B.’s characters lives but man does it make for good reading.
In every book in this series I go there is no way the author can top the tragic lives of her characters in that book. I am wrong every time. What Rex and Gia went through as children was horrifying and left them with tons of issues. Some of the ones Rex had I have not seen written before which made him such a unique character.
From the moment I started this book I never wanted to put it down. The characters just call to you and you get so wrapped up in their story, their pain. You keep reading hoping they are finally going to get something good in their life but alas the author likes to torture us and throw in more angst mid book so were pulling out our hair – BUT that’s what makes it such good reading and has you turning those pages.. LOVED IT..
