One night is never enough… toe.
ER nurse Daniela England has lost so much that she’s vowed never to need anyone again. Fight club helps her beat back her survivor’s guilt, but it means dealing with Riddick. The hot-but-infuriating firefighter is everything she wants to avoid, which is why their one-night stand was a mistake. Now she needs to keep her distance so it doesn’t happen again.
But when Dani witnesses Sean’s motorcycle accident, she steps up to help him recover. One on one, they get beneath all the snark and find a connection neither expected. As Sean heals, the sparks between them burst into red-hot passion—and ignite old wounds. Now there are fires all around—and they have to decide which they’ll fight and which they’ll let consume them.

Fighting the Fire is Sean and Dani’s story in the Warrior Fight Club Series. I love this series and their story is a great addition. I loved the Deadpool references throughout! I really enjoyed this book.
Loved this story! Sean is fighting his inner demons and in the process he finds true self. Daniela is fighting her own demons plus the loss of her husband. Can they overcome the odds and find true love together.
I am so glad this author is back!
Dani and Riddick, we have met through the previous books.
A ton of chemistry added by a double dose of bickering and this couple just explodes slowly.sinfully.wickedly.
Dani and Riddick are so good for each other if their pasts don’t bring them crashing down.
If you are in need of a helping hand however never count out either of these fierce fighters. And Dani knows Riddick wants her but deep down doesn’t she want him to?
Fantastic story! Absolutely love this couple!
“My shower is your shower.” “My Popcorn is your popcorn.”
Delectable sexual tension! Laura Kaye is finally delivering on that sexy firefighter we’ve heard so much about in the Warrior Fight Club series and he’s as delicious as we assumed. In FIGHTING THE FIRE we delve into Sean and Dani’s story just as he has an accident that sidelines him for awhile. I wasn’t as all in as I am with some of Kaye’s couples, but I enjoyed their story.
Sean is a sweetheart. We see him at his most vulnerable in this book, yet his tough guy persona is still lurking underneath to peak through and smile at us now and again.
Daniela started out being a tad snarky, but as soon as she witnesses Sean’s accident, a button is pressed in her and she’s all in as his avenging angel.
I recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys a comradery between veterans trying to find a way past their demons after returning home. The characters are intense and the romance is rewarding.
Fighting The Fire, the latest book in Laura Kaye’s Warrior Fight Club series, is Dani and Sean’s standalone romance. If you love firefighters, nurses, superheroes and the WFC, you’ll love this story. Sean is a hot and sweet superhero-tortured-soul and his frenemy, Dani , is his sarcastically fierce warrior-princess match. The chemistry is electric and their story is steamy, witty, and beautifully told. I highly recommend it.
Daniela England doesn’t know what to do with sexy firefighter Sean Riddick. His devil may care attitude and sarcastic sense of humor infuriate her while his quick smile and caring attitude intrigue her. And there’s simply no denying the underlying chemistry between them.
When Sean is seriously injured in a motorcycle accident, Dani steps in to take care of him. As the more time they spend together, Dani begins to peel back some of Sean’s layers, like how he uses humor and deflection to hide a deep seated pain and lack of confudence in himself. Dani wants to be the one who breaks through the walls Sean has built around himself. But, Dani is hiding pain of her own. She’ll need to break down her own walls before she can hope to get through Sean’s.
This is the emotional story of two people who carry the pain of loss and perceived failures. As they come to realize they’re ready to move on they’ll need to struggle through their fears to trust and take a chance on love. Fighting the Fire is a wonderful addition to the Warrior Fight Club series. Though it’s the fourth book in the series it can easily be read as a stand alone, but be warned, you’ll want to back and catch up on what you’ve missed.
Sean is a firefighter and working out his demons at the Warrior Fight Club, has been a tremendous help. He’s leaving one night on his bike, when a truck ran a red light and hit him.
Daniela was in the military and now is a nurse at the hospital. She vowed to never love again, after losing so many people in her life. The WFC helps her with her guilt of surviving when others haven’t. Months ago, Dani and Sean slept together and Dani swears it’ll never happen again.
Daniela is waiting for the rest of the crew to go eat dinner, when she witnesses Sean’s wreck. She rides to the hospital with him and stays until he’s released the next day. He has to wear an eyepatch and will be off work for several weeks. Even though Sean drives Dani nuts, she helps him out. With all the time they are spending together, Dani sees a side to Sean she had never seen before. Will they get past their pasts and find happiness together?
Such an awesome story. Be prepared for crying and steamy sex. This can be read as a standalone. No cliffhangers. Two people fighting survivors guilt and finding their way to each other.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for the author *
Fighting the Fire is the third book in Kaye’s Warrior Fight Club. It starts off with the two main characters already knowing each other so I really expect the author to do the falling in love early in the book thing. I was so glad that she made us and them work for “that love”.
At first, I couldn’t understand why they were so snippy at each other. More so Dani but Sean gave as good as he got. You’d think at first that these two hated each other until you realized what they were doing is foreplay. Plus it didn’t help that Dani has some issues she hasn’t worked through.
I really liked these two together and it has nothing to do with the fact that they both love Deadpool. Or that Sean is more a Marvel fan. Both are just a plus in my eyes.
I will say that the road to happiness wasn’t easy for these two. Both fought it and felt that they couldn’t be happy. Silly people. At times though Dani’s issues kinda pissed me off. She was really rude sometimes to Sean for nothing. Since I understood why she was acting this way I gave her a pass but I still felt so bad for Sean.
The ending of this story is so good. I love how it worked out for them and beyond. Thanks, Kaye for giving us just that little more to see where the characters are headed after the “I love yous”. If you really like stories where the characters have overcome things in their pasts and still at times deal with them then you’ll love this series. I will tell you that if you are not a fan of foul language then this might not be for you. It might have been a long wait for Fighting the Fire but it was well worth the wait.
5 stars
“Live where you fear to live, Dani”
Daniela England has spent the past 5 plus years letting fear control her decisions. Other than being a part of Warrior Fight Club, she goes to work and mostly keeps to herself. She has spent so much of her time alone, losing too many people she loved, that going about her days with few attachments is just safer.
Sean Riddick is a sarcastic, adrenaline loving firefighter who love verbally, and physically, sparring with Daniela at Warrior Fight Club. Any chance he gets he is enjoys teasing her and irritating her, though it is all in good fun. Sean uses his humor as a barrier, so no one truly knows what he has been through and what type of man he believes himself to be. His childhood and his time in the Navy have shaped him into a man who believe that being alone is best for himself, and anyone around him, because he can’t possibly be good enough to be important to anyone.
When Dani witnesses Sean get injured in a motorcycle crash, mother matters to her except being there to help him and make sure he is going to be ok. As a nurse, she feels she needs to be there through the entire process of recovery. From riding with him in the ambulance, to making sure he doesn’t overdo anything when he gets home, Dani stays by Sean’s side. The more time these two spend together, the more they realize, they are more alike than they ever imagined. Bonding over movies, snacks, and life, Dani and Sean cannot resist the fire that exists between them.
As these two get closer, their insecurities become a bigger hindrance and eventually they both must decide if they can love themselves enough to take down their walls and love one another. Words that Dani’s Granny told her, so many years before come back to her. And she must decide if she can let herself live where her heart and her mind feels the most fear, or if she is going to let the fear ruin her chance to be with a man who can be everything she ever wanted….and they can both support one another, and love one another, in ways they both deserve.

Laura had me at ‘Deadpool’ references. I’ve missed her books and her writing something fierce and I’m so happy to have her books back gracing my ereader once again. Fighting the Fire is funny, steamy, and full of heart, everything I love about reading Laura Kaye’s writing.
Sean and Dani are heroes. Not only war veterans, but Dani is an ER nurse and Sean is a firefighter. They have been frienemies for the past few years, but several months ago they crossed a line and added benefits to that status. It was only one night, but that tension is still strung tight and all of their friends still notice something is cooking between them. If only they could settle whatever that is, because their frienemy status is messing with both of their heads.
When Sean has an accident Dani is there to help him out, stepping up for reasons she can’t really explain, but during his recuperation, she learns more about the man behind the snark and sarcasm. It turns out she likes him more than she should, but that is a huge problem, she promised never to fall for anyone again. Sean has a dangerous job so no matter how much she likes him, she can’t fall for him, she won’t lose anyone ever again.
The Marvel references, the heros, the great cast of characters, and most importantly the love these two find for each other in the depth of their loneliness is why I love Laura Kaye. I missed her amazing books while Laura was recouping, but I couldn’t be more pleased with how Fighting the Fire turned out and I’m so happy to see the WFC club back and stronger than ever!
As ex military personnel, Daniela and Sean are both active members of warrior fight club. They are also active in their apparent dislike of each other.
Circumstances however pushes them together, offering a different perspective on the time they spend together.
Discovering they have a lot in common, surprises them both and opens up the possibility of a whole new relationship.
As readers have come to expect from this author, we have charismatic characters who have overcome personal demons and a page turning story that merges past and present experiences, producing a hero worthy HEA.
Fighting the Fire is a superb addition to the catalogue of Laura Kaye.
4.25 STARS—FIGHTING THE FIRE is the third full-length instalment in Laura Kaye’s contemporary, adult WARRIOR FIGHT CLUB erotic, military, romance series focusing on a number of retired military personnel who meet at the local WFC headed by Army Ranger Moses Griffin. This is former US Navy and current firefighter Sean Riddick, and former US Black Hawk and current nurse Daniela England’s story line. FIGHTING THE FIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Sean and Dani) FIGHTING THE FIRE follows the frenemies to lovers relationship between former US Navy and current firefighter Sean Riddick, and former US Black Hawk and current nurse Daniela England. Months earlier Dani and Sean had a one -night stand but in the ensuing months Dani struggled with regret in the face of the upcoming anniversary of her husband’s death. An accident outside of the Warrior Fight Club involving Sean pushed Dani to take care of our story line hero, a push that would place our couple together for the foreseeable future but as their relationship turns into something more, Dani begins to pull away, leaving Sean wondering where it all went wrong. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Dani and Sean, and the potential fall-out as Dani continues to struggle with the death of her husband, as Sean battles the demons from the past.
Dani England knows loss but the loss of her husband was the final straw. Struggling to move on, Dani would join the WFC gym, where she would meet firefighter Sean Riddick, the man whose penchant for super heroes would find Dani wishing for a super hero of her own. Sean Riddick’s family life had been a living h*ll but now he considers his fellow first responders as his family and friends but Dani England was a someone he wanted in his life, if only he were able to get past the barriers she erected around her heart.
The relationship between Dani and Sean is one of second chances, of a sorts, following a one-night stand months before. Dani continued to push away our hero at every opportunity but Sean wasn’t willing to back down with a try. An accident would pull our couple together, an accident that could have very well ended our hero’s career. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including the members of the WFC: Marine Noah Cortez, Ranger Moses Griffin, diving instructor Tara Hunter, MMA coaches John ‘Mack’ McPherson, Billy Parrish and Shayna, Leo ‘Hawk’ Hawkins, Jesse, Jud, Jayne, and Colby Richmond. The camaraderie is friendly and fun.
FIGHTING THE FIRE is a story of family, friendships, acceptance and love. The premise is captivating and emotional; the romance is passionate; the characters are dynamic and charismatic.
Oh man this book killed me. Sean is very much a tortured hero just trying to keep the demons away. Daniela is wounded and vows to never need anyone. Sean gets in a motorcycle accident which brings them together and passion and emotions ensue.
I absolutely loved it. I’ve been waiting for this book for a while and it was so worth the wait. I love sean and Daniela so much. My heart hurt for these two. I couldn’t have asked for a better read right now. Definitely worth it.
Fighting the Fire, with its fun, snarky, and relatable characters, is a sweet, smexy, angsty story about overcoming your childhood and loss and finding love….even when you don’t think you deserve it. Have some tissues handy…and maybe some chocolate.
Highly recommend.
I received a copy of this book from the author via Bookfunnel. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.
Laura Kaye is Back…to punch in you in all the feels!
Warrior Fight Club members Daniela and Sean have been circling and snipping at each other from day one but now find that they have more in common than thought…and that that sexual spark they accidentally ignited just can’t be extinguished!
Both Daniela and Sean have experienced loss and deprivation most of their lives and have learned to cope with it in different ways. I loved the development of their relationship through super hero movie marathons and secrets shared. I also really appreciated the delicate exploration of survivors guilt in all its forms. Like the other books in the WFC series there’s a mix of deep emotion, humor, badass heroes and heroines, and super steamy sexy times!
I’m so excited Laura Kaye is back and can’t wait for more!
I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
Fighting the Fire is Dani and Sean’s story and was worth the wait. There has always been so much burning beneath the surface between them with the way the constantly bickered back and forth. Even though they could push each other’s buttons better than anyone else they were always ready to be there for each other whenever needed. They both had things in their past they needed to work through in order to move forward and they were able to do that by helping each other while creating a deeper connection. Laura Kaye lets you see how beautifully strong both physically and emotionally these characters are, which make them relatable to the readers. I love this all these stories.
Laura Kaye is BACK!! This final installment in the Warrior Fight Club series was perfect!
Daniela England is a former Army helicopter evac nurse, who now works in the ER. She’s also a member of the Warrior Fight Club, and sparring with her friends helps keep her demons at bay. Her husband, who was also in the Army, died in combat 6 years ago, and she’s been protecting her heart ever since. After a lifetime of her loved ones leaving her too soon, she’s determined to never risk her emotions on love again. But, another fighter in the group gets under her skin in all the ways she’s been trying to avoid. So, she responds with sarcasm, and they have a strong frenemies vibe, until one night their chemistry blazes out of control. They both decide it can’t happen again, but then a motorcycle accident changes everything between them.
Sean Riddick, is a former Navy man, and a firefighter, and he loves his job. He also loves all the benefits he gets from being a part of the Warrior Fight Club. He feels like he’s damaged goods, after growing up with an abusive father, and losing friends in the service, that he feels responsible for. The spark between him and Dani is huge, but he knows it can’t go anywhere. Until it does, once, and he thinks that’s all he’ll get. But after he gets into a motorcycle crash, and she steps up to help him out, he wonders if there could be more to their banter after all.
Sean and Dani’s back-and-forth was excellent, and their connection jumped off the page. It was also clear to everyone who knew them, so all their WFC friends were always wondering when they would finally combust. I loved watching them dig beneath the surface and truly get to know each other during Sean’s recovery. They both discovered how little they actually knew about each other, and found out how much they had in common.
The side characters here, all of Dani and Sean’s friends from the WFC, were all seen in the prior books, and it was fun to catch up with them and see how their lives are continuing on. They often acted as a sounding board for the main couple, and they all really care for each other.
The dead ex trope is not usually my jam, but it worked for me in this book, I think because of the length of time that had passed, and how it was all laid out. I thought that Dani was finally ready to move on, and it felt like a realistic time line. Other tropes in this book that I always love, that also worked well here included frenemies to lovers, and sick bed/one caring for the other. I really believed in Sean and Dani as a couple, and I wanted them to figure things out.
I got teary eyed a couple times in this book, and then full-on sobbed towards the end. It was such a beautiful story, and the characters came to mean so much to me! I really enjoy this author’s words, and I’m so glad she’s back to writing them!
Super easy 5-stars here! I have been waiting and so excited for this book for so long and it was so worth the wait! It was seriously everything and more that I could have asked for. I went through so many emotions with this one, it was beautiful! One minute I was laughing out loud, the next I was yelling at my book, after that I was fanning myself, and the one after that I had tears streaming down cheeks. Like I said, beautiful. Dani and Sean are easily my new favorite WFC couple and Fighting the Fire is definitely a book that I will not forget about anytime soon. <3
A great addition to the Warrior Fight Club series. I was hooked from the start. Loved the banter (and chemistry) between Daniela and Sean. Their Deadpool conversations had me laughing out loud. Looking forward to more visits to the fight club. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
I think this may be my favorite couple and book of this series. It also reads really well as a stand-alone so if you just want meet Daniella and Sean, jump on in to this book. I didn’t know quite what to expect from these two, but their banter, their growing friendship, the depth of their care for each other was all a pleasure to read. I really did enjoy every second. I couldn’t wait for them to get their HEA and yet I didn’t want it to end.
