Max and Aurora’s story is the perfect launch to this 12 book series. I love that they can all be read as stand-alone novellas and are each written by a fresh new voice.
Sort and sweet.

The Last Resort Motel: Room 1 by Gwen McNamee a sublime five-star read. This is the first story about a place called the Last Resort Motel each book tells the story of a different room twelve rooms by twelve authors and this room is number one, the room that Mr Maxwell Lawson a well-muscled California hunk is staying in for a couple of nights this peaks the interest of motel manager/owner Aurora Clayton she doesn’t see many men like Max arrive at the motel and when she finds out what he’s getting up to in the Mines on Spruce Mountain things get complicated and heads will spin as well as possibly role. As he isn’t the only one who’s interested in finding out if the mines still have anything worth mining.
Gwen McNamee is the reason I will read this series, her writing is some of the best I have come across, she writes a cliff hanger like no one else I have found yet and the way she strings words together makes you see them in a different way, you read differently and read with a passion that will compel you to finish the book and then look around in wonder as the world has moved on and you are still on a mountainside in middle of nowhere Nevada.
Many times short stories leave me feeling like they are lacking, either the author was unable to find a way to connect me emotionally with the characters or the plot and scenes felt rushed and incomplete.
That was NOT the case here.
McNamee did a great job of bringing her characters to life –
the intricate little quirks and details that make us love them so. She was able to weave a plot with a bit of suspense -a bit of “Oh NO” and a whole lot of “Oh Yeah”
After her parents tragic passing, Aurora inherited The Last Resort Motel – Leaving behind her dream of acquiring a masters degree, she returns to her hometown to try and salvage what is left of her legacy.
Max inherited his grandfather’s mine and wants to check it out – he holds out hope that maybe there will be something there that he can claim as his own.
From the moment of check-in Aurora can’t help but check him out – and the feeling seems to be mutual. Both know this is just a quick fancy, an itch to scratch. But what fun one can have in a week.
This is the first book in a twelve book series. Each new book intends to introduce a new couple and a new adventure!
The Last Resort Motel has a perfect mix of unique, lovable characters in this brilliantly written adventure full of action and steamy romance. Utterly entertaining from cover to cover. I absolutely LOVE Gwyn’s work. Every beautifully articulated chapter had me holding my breath or panting with lust.
Excited to see what the next eleven installments in this series bring.
Aurora is young, beautiful and alone. Trying to keep the hotel her parents left her afloat. However Spruce Mountain is a lonely, desolate place. Not many opportunities for a girl to have some fun. Until Max rolls up in his sports car with his drool worthy California surfer good looks. These two have an immediate attraction to each other. Which builds to a smoldering crescendo after being stoked by what they hear through the thin wall that separates them. Talk about fueling the fire — these two are scorching! They start spending time together which quickly escalates from a friendly hike to check out Max’s families mine — to an action packed, bullet dodging, explosive endeavor. Aurora is a realist and expects a few days of fun before Max’s business on the mountain is done. Max’s feelings for Aurora and his internal dialogue are awesome. What does the future hold for these two? Just a hot encounter? Or does one of them want more?
The amazing writing gave me a very vivid image of the gorgeous scenery. I could visualize the beautiful trees and mountains. Even the dilapidated hotel. Clear in my head. All created with Gwyn’s words! Fantastic.
This book is just another example of this author’s impeccable creative & writing abilities. Huge fan. I count down to every new release.
The Last Resort Motel is going to be an amazing book. An anthology of novellas by 12 awesome authors, one delivered every month, that all promise to be just what the doctor ordered. This one will have a story for everyone featuring romance, mystery, suspense and a little paranormal.
Vacancies – Room 1 by Gwyn McNamee had everything I need in a short romance and I loved it. The characters intrigued me and brought me into their little world. It was a quick read that delivered a hot alpha male, a shy heroine just ripe for the flirtations of the handsome and mysterious stranger, and instant attraction.
There isn’t much to do around the Last Resort Motel, so when sexy Max Lawson shows up in his custom Camaro looking for a room for more than a night, motel owner, Aurora, has all of her senses on high alert. He smells amazing and looks fantastic but what could he possibly be doing out in the middle of nowhere?
The mystery kept me guessing until the very end, the suspense was intriguing and enticing, and the sexual attraction and flirting were both hot and steamy. This book has one of the hottest solo yet dual-masturbation scenes I’ve read to date. There’s a lot to be said for thin motel walls. I just wish I had Max’s POV on the night. Did he hear what Aurora heard? So freaking hot and sexy.
The best part of the book was the ending, when everything comes to light and Max’s secrets are uncovered. Gwyn was sneaky and tied this book to her other amazing books in The Hawke Series. Now I am ever so curious to see what the other authors have in store for this little motel in the middle of nowhere, Nevada, and to see what other guests make an appearance.
This book by Gwyn McNamee has all of the elements needed to keep you reading until you turn the last page. The Last Resort Motel, Room 1 is the first in a series of books to be issued monthly during 2018 by twelve different authors. If all of the books are as enjoyable as the first book, readers are in for a tremendous ride!
The two main characters have an instant attraction to each other. Both realize it will only last a short time, but decide to enjoy it while they can. There are definitely some sexy scenes, but what really makes this story is the build up of suspense and mystery. The book was well written and continuity flowed throughout. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the next in the series!
This book had it all. Romance, action, suspense.
Aurora is trying to keep her parents motel alive. In walk sexy Max needing a room for a few nights.
The sparks fly but will they act on their feelings?
Max is there looking at a mine he was left in the family will. Will the area and mine be more than what he was looking for? Will he be able to keep the sexy motel owner safe when danger is near?
A great book! I look forward to reading more about this Motel!
