The world was supposed to end on April 23, but Rainbow Williams’s world ended days before that. The mass hysteria caused by the impending apocalypse claimed everything she’d ever loved. Her family. Her city. Her will to live.Until she met him.Wes Parker didn’t have anything left for the apocalypse to take … he’d already lost it all by the time he was nine years old. His family. His home. His hope … His family. His home. His hope of ever being loved.
Until he met her.
Brought together by fate and bound by a love that would last lifetimes, Rain and Wes were prepared to die together on April 23.
They were not prepared for what would happen on April 24.

I loved this book I could not put it down. I hated cliffhanger. I cant wait for next one.
Fighting for Rain had me on the edge of my seat from page 1…well not so much seat…more like bed really…ok not so much on the edge of the bed…I was laying down… so I guess more metaphorically on the edge of my seat rather than literally on the edge of my seat. Regardless, book 2 of this series had me hooked.
Before diving in to Fighting for Rain, book 2, I needed a recap of Praying for Rain, book 1 because #mombrain so I went back to Goodreads and read some spoilery reviews and picked Lsay’s brain because she did a quick reread (thanks girl ) but guess what? I really didn’t need to because BB did a great job of reminding me of everything important I needed to know! It was like she knew that I can hardly remember what I walked into the next room for, let alone details about a book I read like a year ago. She gets me.
Ok, back to the book. I loved this book. A lot. The character Rain felt super real. She seems vulnerable and fragile but strong somehow. I’m not even sure how to understand those contracting traits but they work somehow. Her struggle to accept reality and survive felt tangible. I even wondered at one point if BB had gone through some similarly tragic events in order to be able to wrote about Rain’s feeling the way she did. I mean. Not THAT similar… since it is not the apocalypse or anything…but maybe something related to the chaos that situation created? Could be? Or maybe she’s just a great writer.
Many new characters were introduced and I hated most of them. They were well written, don’t get me wrong, but they deserved more than a punch to the throat and most of the book I was waiting for someone to do just that. You’ll have to read it though if you want to find out what goes down.
Pick it up if you want an attention grabbing apocalyptic romance. And pick it up even of you don’t think you want an attention grabbing apocalyptic romance, because you do, you just maybe don’t yet it.

Aw!
Wes & Rain are my most favorite post Apocalyptic couple, and I mean that. They’re also the only couple I know set in this type of scene.
Why? Because that’s not my genre of romance, but Easton churns out nothing but GOLD, and so I can’t help but to read it all!
In the first book, we got great glimpses of them working well under pressure, solving things they had no business figuring out, but learning each other as well.
In book two, they are here to let you know…. well, I’m not gonna tell you, but they will.
Plain and simple, this was everything I wanted in the middle of a trilogy.
Give me some angst, give me some conflict, give me the sweet and the flawed and the tragic, give me the MEAT!
And she did.
This is not to be missed, nor is the next one, based on that cliff I was tossed over at the end!
I am beyond ready for the next part, hopefully my favorite couple weathers the storm.
I’m gonna start by saying I love this author! She is so neat to follow on social media and meeting her in person was awesome. I love this series! When I start, I can’t seem to finish fast enough. Everything about it just fits for me
Well I’m still in shock…I really didn’t think this book would play out the way it did. I am more in shock that I didn’t trust my gut about how bad ass BB is with her writing skills. And her imagination. And her characters.
So over all this book was a quick read that kept my mind racing and the pages turning. It picks up right where we leave off with book 1 in this hot mess of a world. We get answers to so much and dive deeper into the characters mind.
And some nasty news that twisted my gut. Way to make me have all kinds of feelings! Can’t wait for the next book!
What an exciting and heart pounding second book in the Rain Trilogy!
We get a lot more information about the ‘coming’ apocalypse, and the new landscape of their world. I love the new aspects that they are now dealing with, and how these characters react and grow from it.
I flew through this book, because I had to know what was going to happen next, and holy-canoli, that cliffhanger! This was a very intense and somewhat angsty read.
I cannot wait to see how this trilogy ends!!
Overall Grade:
In one word, B.B. Easton’s Fighting for Rain is provocative. In the world of romance, in any given year, you read a handful of books that could be described with that one word. As the second book in the trilogy, you hope that it can hold the attention of the reader after the first book, and Easton does this so succinctly that, at its end, you can’t help but cringe because you know you have to wait for the next one. From the first to the last page, Fighting for Rain is spellbinding even in its moments of darkness.
I don’t want to give any plot to you other than this is a continuation of Praying for Rain, the first book of the Rain
Trilogy. In that book, we meet Rain and Wes as they fall for each other amidst the looming end of the world. However, at that book’s end, all is not as it seems, and it leaves Fighting for Rain, the second book, to answer the questions of the first book. In this second book, Rain and Wes are faced with other challenges, greater than the ones present in the first book. Amidst their daily struggle, they grapple with the past’s influence on their burgeoning relationship. At times, all seems lost until it isn’t. It’s this struggle that keeps the reader engaged, even as the story becomes more complicated and more violent. As Fighting for Rain ends, once again, Easton leaves us with more questions and more heartbreak. But, as we find in the first book, there is always an undercurrent of hope, and it’s that hope that will keep Easton’s readers waiting with bated breath for the third and final book of the trilogy, Dying for Rain. Given the provocative and violent nature of this story, why should readers read it? Why is it worthy of my 5-star review? Here goes:
*There is an emotional gravitas to Fighting for Rain. While it would be easy to dismiss Easton’s grandiose story of life pre-apocalypse, she crafts a gravity into the characters’ stories that suspends your disbelief. Wes’s struggle for acceptance, moving past his demons, resonates with her readers whose pasts haunt them. Rain’s struggle with the acceptance of her situation and her overwhelming grief for her past life are many of us who have endured the pain of death in our lives. All of the characters in this trilogy lose something whether it’s their dreams, their possessions, their sanity, or their power; the loss is heavy in this story, yet it’s true to life. No, we aren’t living in an apocalyptic world (even when it seems like it), but we can empathize with the characters in the process of their journey because their emotions are our emotions. Easton concocts this connection and pulls us in hook, line, and sinker.
*This story is layered. I can’t tell you the number of romances I have read where the only layer is the relationship between the hero and heroine. I’m not saying that is a problem, or that it makes a poor story. Yet, when you read a book such as Fighting for Rain, it reminds you of the weight of storytelling when there is more than the hero and heroine. In this book, the underlying layer is survival. Everyone in this book is trying to survive, and they must sacrifice portions of themselves in order to do that. Another layer of this story resides in the ancillary storyline of the reasons behind the world ending. It’s evil and demonstrates the misuse of power by a government to a heinous end. There is more revelation behind the four horsemen in Fighting for Rain, so this layer shows the abiding danger of this new world. Besides these first two layers is the layer of Wes and Rain’s developing connection. In this book, it’s more fraught than Praying for Rain because both of them are dealing with internal emotional upheavals that seek to torpedo their connection. Beyond that, Easton designs the environmental layer. This incorporates the other survivors and the dangers of this world. In these layers, Easton shows her storytelling muscle, bringing us romance within the scope of a broken, unloving world. This dichotomy is the brilliance of this story.
*Finally, Easton’s inventiveness in creating Wes and Rain’s relationship is key to understanding Fighting for Rain, but even more, in this trilogy. Encapsulated in their relationship is a microcosm of their new world. There is beauty as evidenced by a singular moment on Wes’s return back to Rain. And there is sorrow in Wes’s abandonment of Rain. There is a deep love between these two, but their individual traumas have the potential to wreck their present. Their relationship illustrates the world around them. It’s their coupling that I think pulls the reader through the story. At least, that was the case for me. As the world outside of them becomes darker, they become lighter, and you can’t help but continue reading, hoping they can exist in this fractured, morally destitute world. Unfortunately, there is always sacrifice, and Easton finds the most compelling way to offer it to her reader. In doing so, her readers are now ravenous for the final book.
In its provocation of romancelandia, Fighting for Rain (along with its siblings) is poking at the norm. The world of the Rain Trilogy isn’t beautiful; it’s mangled and mutilated. Yet, Wes and Rain, in its midst, remind me of the plant from the film, Wall-E. Poking up through the wreckage is this innocent, fast-growing relationship of soulmates: starcrossed, fighting for survival, resilient. This isn’t the bedroom of a billionaire; it isn’t the small-town romance; and it isn’t even the dark bully romance of a high school/college. Fighting for Rain is life, and B.B. Easton beautifully imagines where love is light, fighting to cast out the darkness of a world that has forgotten the power and gravity of love. Read. This. Trilogy. Now. It’s found its niche in the world of romance.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

Fighting for Rain is the second book in B.B. Easton’s The Rain Trilogy. You have to have read Praying for Rain first or you are going to be so lost. Plus I promise that book is amazing and you do not want to miss it. Fighting for Rain picks up just where Praying for Rain ended. The world just might not be ending and Wes is the one who might have figured this whole thing out. Or at least some of it. However there are still plenty of dangers left for them to fight against and they are getting pretty good at survival. Rain grounds Wes and Wes keeps Rain focused. I just do not know how to review this book and tell you things that happen and not give it away. It has been three days since I finished this book and one day three I am just as shocked and just still have my heart in my throat. I need the third book now or just as much as I do my next breath. I would give this book a million stars if I could. Heck I can and I am going to!!! B.B. Easton has blown my mind and my heart into a million pieces. So if you finish this book with a scream then you are not alone. I about woke up my whole entire family. And I am so freaked out. I just ugh……and you will know exactly what I mean when you finish the book. Hold on tight, enjoy the ride and the greatness that has been created by B.B. Easton.
Oh Wes! To say I love this series so far is an understatement. Wes and Rain must endure many difficulties. They are each other’s crutch and together they make each other stronger during the worst of times. The ending is thought-provoking. I’m still reeling from the read and it has been days since I finished. An unconventional love story set during the darkest of times that leaves a momentous impression.
I was given the opportunity to read an advance copy and this is my honest review.
BB Easton did it AGAIN!! There’s a reason she’s one of my favorite authors! The continuing story of Wes and Rain is so well told BB is truly gifted with setting a scene and telling a story so well you feel as though you are there with the characters. So many feelings and emotions spilled out within the pages of this book it gave me a bit of a book hangover so, I’m grateful the third book comes out January 30th!
In book two, Fighting for Rain, of B.B. Easton’s post apocalyptic The Rain Trilogy readers find Wes and Rain embarking on a new life together even as they question their survival in their new terrifying and unpredictable world order.
Ms. Easton progresses the darker side of humanity in book two as she takes Wes and Rain from taking chances with nothing left to lose to the opposite extreme of being risk adverse. In the bleak reality of surviving in a world where humanity is a rare commodity this couple struggled to find their place even as they fell victim to their insecurities and fears, seeking comfort in their old vulnerabilities and choices. This author makes a good argument for self sabotage as this pair inflicted harm to themselves and in do so unintentionally hurting the other. Despite many actions to the contrary Wes’ goodness always shined through and made him a hero whose appeal was enhanced by his imperfects. Rain’s battle with her personal demons ultimately took a back seat to her devotion and loyalty to those she loved. As continuous hurdles were thrown at Wes and Rain’s relationship in the end their happiness being tied to each other kept them stronger than either of them gave their commitment credit for. A very strong chemistry between this couple was present throughout this story. An interesting cast of secondary characters rounded out this work adding conflict and reassurance to this story with well placed layers of tension contributing nicely to an already stressful scenario.
B.B. Easton offered unfiltered truths in Fighting for Rain, never mincing words or downplaying the failings of her depictions. Presenting equally well this writer expressed her characters strengths giving them the ability to move beyond their mistakes and miscommunications with acceptance and forgiveness. It is hard to conceive of a harder test for a relationship than the stress of surviving the end of the world and this author did so with thoughtful and astute observations. Full of foreshadowing this work amped up for a finale that felt complete even as it segued into the next installment of this series. Lots of well devised introspection, portrayal honesty and colorful interactions made Fighting For Rain a gripping work!
*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own. *
*This book should be read with the other books in this series.*
Oh My Goodness! Oh My Goodness! OH MY GAAAWWWD!
NOW I know why BB Easton waited to release the next two books of The Rain Trilogy close together. She knows that we would hate waiting. Like, I’m already missing Wes and Rain and it’s been mere minutes. I already want to know how their story ends.
Rain and Wes survived the apocalypse and lived past April 23rd. What happens next will fill you with excitement, laughs, love, fear, sadness, a sense of shock and more questions.
I have been taken into this desolate world and wondering what our government and these characters have in store for us. I can see it and feel it and am drawn to these characters in this well executed story with characters that I love (and some that I really dislike). I don’t think I’ve ever read anything quite like it and I’m totally here for it. I loved the laughs and the characters, but I especially loved seeing Rain and Wes together and how they survive. It’s sexy and sad and raw and real. I CANNOT WAIT for book three!!
“I laugh and cry and look into the eyes of the a man who destroys beautiful things….but who also makes destroyed things beautiful again.”
Are you ready to see what happens after April 23rd? Because it will be like nothing you’ve expected and will totally leave you wanting more…in the best possible way!
*I received an ARC for my honest review*
*Fighting for Rain is the second book in the Rain Trilogy. It comes out January 16th, 2020. Praying for Rain MUST be read prior to this book. Dying for Rain, the third & final book, will be released January 30th*
I CANNOT FORM WORDS. BB TOOK THEM. I’LL BE BACK WHEN SHE GIVES ME BACK MY SANITY.
Okay, it’s been a couple hours & I still haven’t gotten back my sanity but I DID eat & I think that’s like the same thing??! So um here we go with a ramble fest in 3…2…1…
Devastating
Chaotic
BADASS!
If I had to describe this book in 3 words, those would be it. I honestly cannot BELIEVE what I just read. Since this book starts right where PFR left off, there was no trouble getting into it. It was like hitting resume on my favorite action movie (which is laughable because I do NOT watch those. But with BB’s stories, I am totally game for my heart to race like a frickin jackhammer). I’ll admit: I was uber afraid to start this book. I barely survived the emotions brought on by book 1. I honestly have no idea how I survived this book either. Because really, for all the action & danger within this book, (believe me, there’s SO MUCH!) what really got to me was the nostalgia & heartache Wes and Rain experience in this desolate, unforgiving time. They’ve had everything taken from them. They each deal with it in very different ways. But the fact that they craved normalcy and comfort from each other the most in the most desperate of times was so obvious. I love their connection. Wes acts like this intense brick wall with absolutely no feelings when really his biggest weakness is Rainbow Williams. And Rain? She is trying to figure out just exactly who she is now that her version of normal has disappeared. And Wes is such a huge part of that. They deserve everything perfect and good in the world.
BB Easton, my lady, were BORN to write. Your stories are phenomenal. They never disappoint. Let me tell you something: I remember when I went to Book Bonanza 2019 last year. Staci Hart was talking about angst in books and how authors keep readers on their toes. She said something along the lines of how the relationship is like a cookie. You dangle that cookie like it’s your job and just when readers think they FINALLY have the cookie, you take it away. Okay well, replace cookie with my heart & that’s what happened to me the whole book. You see BB, I HAD my heart at the start of this book. As evidenced by the rapid beating of it. BUT! I gave it gladly with some sweet moments. Got it back. THEN! THENNNNN! You straight up STOLE IT! TOOK IT! And didn’t give it back until 60 something percent of the book was over. And I thought, oh okay cool we’re FINE! No. No no noooooo. Because it just kept happening after that. It was like you played tug of war with my heart. I was happy then angry then worried then hopeful then scared then back to happy. And by the end? DEVASTATION! But it was WORTH IT! I’ll just say “fuck em and survive [my heartache] anyway.”
I need book 3 like I need to breathe, okay? I’m not joking when I tell you I’ve been a fumbling screaming mess since I finished. My mom literally wants to ship me off to Crazytown. I definitely shouldn’t have had that coffee while reading. I legit couldn’t catch my breath or form a coherent sentences for like 2 hours. It’s a miracle I’m writing this right now.
I should probably point out Dying for Rain comes out the day before my birthday. I really don’t think I can handle it, I’m so excited. And don’t even START with that freaking playlist. I’ve played one particular song a bazillion times and cannot quit crying. I NEED ANSWERS!
*Also thank you so much for the ARC even if it did destroy me a lot inside. I LOVED IT!!!*
*OH! And Wesson Patrick Parker? SO MUCH PERFECT! I love every single thing about him. K thanks byeeeee*
It should go without saying but I will say it again, BB Easton has found her calling and it is writing! She becomes stronger with every books she writes. She is a brilliant storyteller and I am here for it!
BB is so expressive when she writes that I feel like I’m living it, I get chills!
The emotions she pulls from her readers are real! She brings these raw, intense, gritty, questionable and relatable characters to life with her words. You feel the heartache, longing, anxiety, fear and uncertainty they feel and you root for them to overcome.
Fighting for Rain is a dark and chilling tale that leaves us finding out what happens the days after when the looming apocalypse never came in Praying for Rain. (book 1 in the Rain trilogy)
Your motto, your way of life starts to change and you have to make a new plan, readjust and reset.
You have to face all the nightmares, demons and horrific things you have endured and find a way to keep going, to survive.
I have said it before and I will say it again, Wes and Rain are life!
As for that ending O.M.G.!!
Let me just say I am so happy I do not have to wait long for the conclusion.
Dying for Rain, I am ready for you (I think)
One of my top reads ever!
This book deserves all the stars!
WHAT. JUST. HAPPENED?! WHAT DID I JUST READ?! The Queen has done it again! When did you become so sadistic with your cliff-hanging skills?! Cuz WELL DONE! If book three wasn’t releasing soon, I may have had to check myself into a treatment facility on a 72 hour hold. LOL! You’ve managed to paint such a vivid story in my mind, that I keep replaying it over and over in my mind. Is this a dream or reality?! But when I see other people freaking out over it, I know that it is reality and this is just an amazing and captivating story. This trilogy is, hands down, the best dystopian romance book in existence (and I haven’t even read book three yet)!
I barely survived this book, the long wait was totally worth, but now I need the next one. This book made me feel like I was running a marathon, my heart is still recovering. The amazing suspense from book one definitely has nothing to this one, Wes and Rain’s story is so different from what I usually read, and well BB Easton surprised us all with the new apocalyptic theme to her books. In this book Wes and Rain are tested to the limit, new world to try to stay alive, but the twists in the story keep you on the edge of your seat for the full ride. Brilliant must read book series. I can’t wait to read the conclusion and find what happens next. I definitely give a standing ovation to the author for giving me a ride of a lifetime with this trilogy!
Utterly compelling, angsty, emotional, sexy and one hell of a thrill ride! B.B. Easton out does herself with part 2 of the Rain trilogy! Her storytelling ability is immersive and gripping yet she never loses that quirkiness her readers have grown to love! Absolutely phenomenal with an ending that will leave you shocked!
5 Cranky Stars
Darn you woman!! I’m all up in my feels and I can’t deal like I need the third book now..please. I wasn’t really prepared for this apocalyptic journey to take a turn the way it did in this book. Avoidance her name is Rainbow Williams or after April 23 she goes by Rain. Her old life is washed away by violence and the fact that the world is going to end. All she needs is Wes and the open road but that isn’t where the powers that be are going to take her. Along with Wes she joins up with her friend Quinten and his brother Lamar which doesn’t turn out how they planned. She finds herself holed up in derelict mall that is run by a woman named Q. Q and the Lumineers (not the band) or I guess you can say they are the Lost Boys to her David since she is an angry witch who is also a megalomaniac. It’s also here where she gets a blast from the past in the form of Carter and his family. The family that left Rain behind in book one. She tries to find her purpose here where she fits in and just avoids anything that can trigger bad memories so basically Rain becomes a recluse in the tux shop. We go on this journey of avoidance and heart ache and fighting to stay alive with Rain. As she grasps her new world all while trying to keep Wes who isn’t doing so good himself since his motto is basically screw everyone else you only need you. Less mess and heartache that way I suppose. Everything isn’t what it seems though and that will knock you for a loop or twenty. What happens in that mall will have you wanting more and not wanting to put the book down. Who knew BB Easton could make you enjoy the apocalypse?
I do adore this series. It’s the apocalypse with a romantic twist. It’s like Mad Max and some sexy times. Does that make you want to read it because I think it should? The only part that tripped me up was Q and Quinton. I kept thinking she was talking about him when she was really talking about the evil witch. Minor I suppose in the grand scheme of things. I’m sad I’m done but I’m anticipating book three and hopefully get some closure to the saga of Wes and Rain and life post apocalypse.
Here we are again. Me trying to articulate just how phenomenal of a storyteller BB Easton is. Fighting for Rain delivers so much more than I ever could have imagined. The action and intensity start immediately when the world DOESN’T end. The damage is done. The world has unraveled into a lawless chaos. Wes and Rain have no time to revel in the fact that they survived, and with a couple found friends along the way, they very quickly have to seek shelter while they deal with the aftermath of a terrible accident. Little do they know that they are walking into a place already swimming with past ghosts and new antagonists, not to mention learning the mind-bending revelation of the vile psychopathic reason behind all of it.
Something obvious but still needs to be shouted—Wes and Rain ARE the stars of this crazy, raw, stressed show. Period. Rain is still so broken, and she can’t outrun the horrific memories that led her to be at peace with dying in the impending apocalypse. Wes fought tooth and nail to ensure her survival and tada, the apocalypse didn’t happen. No jumping for joy for Rain though. She’s too fractured and the one reason she is barely hanging on is because Wes is by her side. Wes is there, the only thing knocking down the cage in her brain, one bar at a time. And oh my Wes. WES! For me, he is the SUPERstar of the show. Damn this man has been through hell and back…only he had to kick and punch and drag himself tortuously slow out of it, just to find himself spending all of his energy on one thing—survival. Until Rain of course. The shitastic life he’s been dealt has left him with an extreme case of self-doubt. No one has ever cared about him before and though he loves Rain more than anything, he can’t fight his insecurity. But this man of men, this legend of a man, this epically heart-achingly loyal man shucks that doubt off the back of his motorcycle and fights for Rain with a renewed fervor.
I said it after Praying for Rain and I will say it now with my own renewed fervor—Wes and Rain are two of the best characters I have ever read. BB dives deep into each of their beings to vibrantly splash every anxiety-ridden feeling, every idiosyncrasy, and every single trait onto the pages with a flourish. And I would be remiss to not point out that the secondary characters wholeheartedly support this story. And it’s a story completely original and extraordinarily written. Bring on the finale! 5 plus plus plus plus plus stars for Fighting for Rain!
What a fantastic follow up to Praying for Rain this is!! I have been eagerly waiting for this book after reading Praying for Rain. Now my mind is blown! I was literally OBSESSED with every single thing about this book. When I read the first book in the series, I was completely captivated and this book does even more.
This story is emotionally gritty, raw, and beautifully intense. Rain and Wes’ struggle to be together and survive a “post-apocalyptic” world was at times hard to read, but necessary. We see both these individuals grow and open up. And we see a love develop that is so powerful it has the ability to heal.
Fighting for Rain is a fantastic read that more than ticked every box for me. It was well written with a perfectly executed plot and well developed characters. This angsty and exciting tale had my heart pounding while keeping me on the edge of my seat. Readers undoubtedly will be left shocked and surprised with all of the twists and turns. Bring on the finale!
