Volunteer firefighter, fierce protector, foster dad… Fire Chief David “Pops” West doesn’t mind being all those things, but when an attractive, young social worker blows into his life like the backdraft from a raging inferno, he’ll acquire another distinction he’s not totally comfortable with—silver fox. Duty, loyalty, responsibility? Check, check, and check. Attraction and dating? Oh, hell, no. … hell, no. It’s been ten years and he’s so out of practice they probably changed the rules on him. The Tarpley, Texas Volunteer Fire Department, his ranch, and the young folks in town are his life. And they’re all he needs. Except when he wants more.
Dedicated advocate, tenacious social worker, wrangler of runaways…
Elena Rodriguez knows certain people think she cares too much. But helping kids, especially the forgotten ones trying to survive on the streets of San Antonio, is her life. To the exclusion of all else. Sure, she has no social life, but that’s never been a problem. Until a sizzling hot fire chief comes to her rescue. Who cares if he’s older? She’s ready to socialize. Too bad fate has other plans.
Fighting for Elena…
When a young teen stumbles out of the path of outlaw bikers and into their lives, the silver fox and the woman who cares too much will team up to protect her—as their attraction for each other explodes. Whether battling wild fires, wicked weather, or outlaw bikers, Pops will do whatever it it takes to keep Elena.

Great Story & Listen A Gripping & Heartfelt Ride!
Fighting for Elena (Police and Fire: Operation Alpha)
Tarpley VFD, Book 1
By: Silver James, Operation Alpha
Narrated by: Mary Jane Conlon
I enjoyed every minute of this audiobook, the story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it straight to the end. I am not sure how but this is my first book written by Silver James, she sure is on my radar now and I hope more of her books are made into audiobooks soon. She is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style, she created interesting storylines and characters, they are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. I adored the lead characters, David “Pops” West and Elena Rodriguez, Joy was awesome as were many of the secondary characters too. Pops is an all around nice guy, always lookin out for others, he is the Chief of Tarpley Volunteer Fire Department, he also fosters children in need, including those who need emergency placement. He is a widower and has not been interesting in anyone since his wife past away. That was until he saw her, Elena, she stirred something in him that he had not felt in a long time. Elena is a social worker who works for Child Protective Services, she looks out for runaways tries to help them before they are victims of the street and/or human traffickers. She saw a girl being chased by bikers and goes to help her, she gets roughed up and the girl gets away, Pops went to her aid. They meet on another occasion, Joy, the runaway who got away is found and Pops takes her in until they can find out more about her, she is vague about her circumstances but it is obvious she is running from something or someone. I loved the mystery behind Joy and finding out more about her, also loved the paranormal element. This story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, some angst, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt and emotional moments and a slow burn romance. Silver James, thank you for this great story, I am looking forward to checking out more of your work.
And for the fabulous narration, Mary Jane Conlon did a great job portraying the characters, bringing them to life, giving each their own distinct voice and personality, making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. She sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the character’s emotions and projects them into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen
Great read with a lot of action. Great to hear and read about other charactors I’ve read about in other books. When Elena tries to rescue Joy, a yound girl from some bikers things get hectic. Pops is the fire chief and he rescues elena when she is attacked by the Hell Dogs (bikers) trying to catch the young girl. When they are kidnapped he has plenty of help when things get out of hand. HEA.
This was my first Silver James’s book, and won’t be my last. This is the first book in the Tarpley VFD Series, a Romantic Suspense. Pops, Elena and Joy’s story is fast-paced, filled with action, secrets, suspense, and unpredictable twists and turns. The story has a touch of paranormal. Pops, a widower, foster Dad, and captain of the Tarpley, the Texas Volunteer Fire Department, is handsome, caring and protective. Elena, a social worker, is caring and supportive. Joy, a runaway young teen, is a fantastic character, strong, and intriguing. I like the multiple POV. The storyline is entertaining, and captivating. The characters are well developed and endearing. Mary Jane Conlon did a fantastic job with the narration. She has a great range of voices. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to more in the series.

I am loving these Operation Alpha stories that are coming out. I would not have known about Silver James without it and now I am putting her on my watch list! This is a fantastic romantic suspense with a touch of paranormal that featuring Pops, Elena and Joy. Pops is the captain of the Fire Department, a widower who takes in foster children. Not interested in romance he spends his time caring for the kids. Elena is now on his radar. She works for Child Protective Services, specifically runaways. She gets help from Pops a couple of times when Joy, a teen is in need of assistance. Pops and Elena have strong chemistry, and though older, its evident their feelings are growing. There is danger coming, and now the suspense is strong. Will Pops be able to keep Joy and Elena safe? What is Joy hiding? James has woven a web of twists and turns that are exciting and surprising. Add in the slow burning romance of Elena and Pops and we have he kind of book I love to listen to.
Narrated by the talented Mary Jane Conlon, the story is brought to life. She is highlights her characters with specific voices and lets us easily know who is speaking. She is easy on the ears and her performance was wonderful.

David West is Captain of the fire department he owns a ranch where he and his wife Rosie have taken in over a hundred foster children so when Joy needs a home he doesn’t hesitate Elena the case worker comes to stay at his ranch they have sizzling romance when the tornado hits Joy’s dad is looking for her they are reunited her dad’s friends help patch Pops up from a bullet from the bad guys Pops and Elena have a happy ending
I’m not normally into romance with an older hero, however, Pops would my pulse flutter! Loved how he was perfectly portrayed and no punches were pulled. The glimpses into Mac and the boys was great as well. I do wish we could get closure on Pamela and her connection to this all as well. Elena was just the right amount of spitfire and common sense! Great read with a perfect outcome! Loved it!
