Forced to retire from the Navy after an ambush kills his SEAL team, former Lieutenant Commander Justice McQuaid is sent to Laguna Beach by the Secretary of State to be its newest chief of police. His mission is to investigate a possible domestic threat, though he questions why he was specifically chosen for this job, especially since he suffered a traumatic brain injury. Nothing is going to … going to deter Sergeant Brielle McAdams from achieving her goal of becoming a SWAT officer for the LAPD. But unless she can pass one final physical challenge, she’s out. When she meets Justice patrolling the beach, she finds herself drawn into his life and his investigation.
When Brielle goes missing, it is a race against time to rescue her from a madman. For Justice, this is a mission he cannot fail to complete. Losing his men and his career nearly destroyed him. But losing Brielle, the woman who holds his heart, will break him.
Rescuing her is his greatest mission.

What a great read! I love Justice and Brielle together. They were friends as much as lovers, and the way he supported her was so sweet. Their chemistry was hot, and the action kept me captivated.
Great series opener! This is a fantastic beginning to a new series! There were twists and turns I didn’t see coming. And the chemistry between Justice and Brielle was off the charts hot! Dee Stewart also brings in a solid supporting cast. I can’t wait to read everyone else’s stories and return to Laguna Beach for more!
Brielle is an officer with the LAPD training for a spot on the SWAT team. She is challenged in every way during this period. Most of the men training with her have given her a hard time and have been extra hard on her. She gives back as good as she gets. Justice is a Navy SEAL who suffered a traumatic brain injury during his last mission after being thrown from a vehicle when the bomb hit. Afterward, he was retired from the Navy with special commendations. Then the Secretary of State sent him to Laguna Beach to be the new Chief of Police. She is hoping he can figure out what kind of corruption is going on there and hoping to keep him from finding out the truth about his last mission. Justice and Brielle meet on the beach and the attraction is off the charts. When Justice finds a house to rent just down the beach from Brielle, he jumps on it. While getting to know each other, they stumble upon something sinister going on right on their beach. As they uncover bits and pieces of the crimes, the realize this plot goes pretty far up. Who can they trust and how far up does it go? Can the two find out what is really going on before someone gets hurt?
This book is an awesome read. It has a little bit of everything, suspense, intrigue, international smuggling, kidnapping, and romance. The characters are strong and well developed. I love Brielle’s determination and grit. She is strong, intelligent, and independent. This book will have you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what is going on and who is involved. There on plenty of plot twists and turns to keep you guessing. Justice makes a great Chief. He doesn’t hesitate to lead his men and work to get to the bottom of what is going on his beach. I’m looking forward to reading the next books in this series.
If you enjoy the work of Lori Ryan or Cynthia D’Alba then check this book out.
Dee Steward has weaved an intricate and suspenseful storyline that will keep you turning the page to find out what happens next. Justice is a sexy Navy Seal that has just been made the Chief of Police in Laguna Beach. A consummate gentleman, he believes in getting to know a woman before jumping into bed with her. Brielle is a feisty, spitfire training to be SWAT that has Justice wishing he wasn’t such an honorable guy. You won’t find a pushover heroine here, and I loved that! Sparks fly between these two from the beginning. When they uncover a major illegal operation right in their own backyard, they must work together to find answers and take down terrorists before it’s too late. This story has passion, suspense, and compelling character. The secondary storylines in this book were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the father/son dynamic between Franklin and Justice and the budding relationship between Franklin and Adrienne. An all-around great read I highly recommend.
