Axelle’s broken.I live to hold her together.Killian McCreery only has two dreams . . .Fight for the UFL.And Axelle. He’s watched her give her time and her body to men who don’t deserve to breathe her air. But life has a way of sucker-punching its victims—striking when they least expect it in the most devastating ways.
Killian loves me.
But I screwed up. Big time.
Axelle Daniels appears to be the typical college student—parties, hangovers, and men. No one knows that inside she’s a mess, and no amount of booze or meaningless relationships have managed to fill the cracks in her heart. But Killian knows. He’s been there since the night it all began and has never left her side.
When she wakes up one morning to find the consequences of her actions have caught up to her, even Killian’s white-knighthood can’t save her now.
Fate is put to the test when, for the first time in their five-year friendship, they no longer have each other to lean on. When he becomes a UFL superstar, she hardly recognizes the man he used to be. And she no longer needs him to hold her together.
With the foundation of their friendship gone, they’ll discover that even a love that is meant to be needs to be fought for and destiny is a choice.

Finally, I have waited FOREVER for Axelle & Killian’s story. And I have to say, it was most definitely worth the wait!!!!
Ax has been through a lot is her young life & has the emotional scars to prove it. Kill has been there for almost all of it & has silently loved her through it all. And just when we think they will finally get their chance another road block is thrown up. Will Kill finally give up on the only girl he’s ever loved? Will Ax make it through without him?
JB Salsbury sure knows how to pull the emotions from her readers. I have loved every book in this series but this one, WOW!!!! To follow these two while they try to find their way was almost painful. Thank you for another fantastic book, Ms Salsbury!!! I loved the journey!!!!
I’m really conflicted with this book. I was looking forward to Killian and Axelle’s story, but I really didn’t like Ax for most of the book. The story did hit my emotions and it was a good book, but I personally hate when there is a separation. I also didn’t like the changes in Killian even though I understood. Axelle really needed to grow up, and I felt sorry for Killian through a lot of the story. I have read it twice, and I’m sure I will read it again.
Read: 5/4/16
Fighting Fate is book seven in the Fighting series by JB Salsbury. I had been totally looking forward to this book! I loved that Salsbury provided teasers in previous books, so I couldn’t wait until it was published.
I loved the basis of the story. However, I struggled with the direction of the storyline and the lack of depth into the characters; primarily with Axelle. I was craving more.
Killian McCreery is an up in coming fighter who has been mentored by the best. He’s been in love with Axelle Rose Daniels since he was sixteen. Axelle on the other hand, is slower to come to the party. She has major self esteem issues which keeps her away from her best friend, Killian, and into the arms of multiple losers. Once they finally come together, circumstances keep them apart.
I loved Killian’s character. And I loved him more as I continued to read. He matured into an incredibly sexy alpha male. It was fulfilling watching him turn into a confident, gorgeous sexy man from the cautious teen that we first met. He had great role models in Jonah, Blake, Rex and Cameron and he emulated them well.
Salsbury engaged several characters in the storyline and I would love to see future books develop them further; for example, I’d love to see Caleb, Fleur, Ollie and Laise. A London spinoff would work – or move them to Vegas to train; either scenario works for me.
“I can’t lose him to someone else. But I can’t allow him to pass up on a chance at happiness with someone else either.”
The Fighting series is one of my favorites. The author continues doing a great job with each book she releases. I don’t even have to read the blurb to know I will love it. We already met both characters in the previous books. I was very excited when I when I found out that they would get their own book. I just love reading about friends turned to lovers.
“She lowers herself and blinks up at me with makeup free eyes, and suddenly she’s sixteen again. That’s the face I fell in love with, the face I’m still in love with.”
This book is about Killian and Axelle who have been best friends since they met in highschool. Killian is not your usual bad boy, but he is a book nerd and very protective of his best friend. Who he secretly loves since the moment he met her. Axelle is very insecure because of her past and has abandonment issues. All she wants to do is please everyone and be accepted. She doesn’t think she is good enough and that is why everyone leaves her. Killian has been friend-zones and he doesn’t know how to get out of it.
Both characters were great, I loved seeing Killian so protective of her. He is the type of friend who will drop anything to be there for his best friend. He is shy and doesn’t have many friends besides Ax and the guys he trains with. Killian may be shy and a bit of a book nerd but he is training to become the next MMA legend. I felt so bad for Killian for not being able to come out and tell Ax that he loves her. However I was glad that it didn’t take too long before the cat was out of the bag.
“She no longer resembles the girl I fell in love with, the woman I’ve come to adore. Now she’s jus a girl who broke my heart.”
Then something happens that has an huge impact on both characters and Ax pushes Killian away. She doesn’t want to depend on him for everything, she finally wants to stand on her own feet and breaks it off with Killian. It was so heartbreaking to read this part from Killian’s POV, he just can’t get a break. Do I agree with what she did? I don’t know. It did allow them to both grow as individuals. But it could’ve been done in another way as well. This all sounds really mysterious, but I don’t want to spoil it!
“I would’ve given anything for her to see herself through my eyes. If I had to gouge out my own and rip out my beating heart. I would’ve done it gladly if only to make her understand.”
It was a great book and a great addition to the series. I loved seeing what all the other characters from previous books were up to. I really miss those guys! I hoping there will be more books in this series or maybe a spin-off. The writing was really good like always and I very much enjoyed the dual POV.
“I’ll fight for us, but I’ll need you to fight too.”
Background: Axelle is Layla’s daughter from Fighting to Forget (Blake and Layla)
This was more like a NA book. It took place mainly during college. Both Axelle and Killian have been in love with each other since 16 but after her rapist “father” confessed he wasn’t really her father Ax went through an emotional time and went through men like water trying to find that one to fill her void when all along he was right there by her side..
What a nice surprise to read the story of Killian,,who was just a scrawny, lanky teen in earlier books in the series and Axelle, Layla and Blake’s daughter. They go thru a TON. of trials and tribulations but thru it all, Killian fought for their love and finally love prevails. Good read
I actually couldn’t finish this book. It was so slow moving that I eventually got bored.
