Can a fairy who can’t control his glamour and the growly Guardian who adores him save the Veil that protects all fairykind?Grey and Si have been dancing around one another for months. Grey’s helpless attraction to fairies (and one fairy in particular) is a source of endless frustration—but as his energy can damage a fairy’s glamour, he can’t let himself get close. Si is different to other fairies … different to other fairies and he’s wearing down Grey’s defences. When Si discovers the Veil is thinning around the school where they both work—putting the students and teachers there at risk from detection—he needs Grey’s help to fix it.
Problem is, Si isn’t a true fairy, he’s just a magical mistake. For as long as he can remember all his glamour has done is messed up and broken stuff. Though Grey maybe older and wiser about a lot of things in the human world, he’s pretty clueless about all things magical. He doesn’t even know the Veil exists until Si knocks himself unconscious trying to save Grey’s reputation after a night out.
But it’s funny how mistakes work out. Even funnier how trusting one another can help even the most impossible events turn out all right.

Wow, normally with Suki Fleet’s work I need to prepare myself and stock up on the tissues. This was unlike anything I’ve read of their work. It’s light and fun, a tale of magical ‘folk’ whose ‘special’ features are hidden from non magical humans by the veil. Our heroes are magical creatures but neither are fully aware of their powers or exactly what they are. Si is a flighty half-fairy, never truly in control of his powers. Gray is lovely, a nome (or so he believes), who has the power to control the earth, but holds himself tightly in control.
The romance is great, a friends to lovers with UST, and an outside influence that has the power to keep them apart. The plot is fun and clever, the reveals perfectly paced.
I’m hoping this isn’t the last of Gray and Si and the school on the hill.
Fight for This is the first book in the For This series by author Suki Fleet. I really liked this story. It is unusual and has action/ adventure in it. I love stories that are off the beaten path and this one is definitely like that. This story is written in dual POV I love that always helps me get into the minds of both characters and feel what they are feeling.
Grey: he wonders how humans would react if they knew the truth. That fairy folk and the like were real. He teaches kids in high school and has eyes for Si only.
Si he loves attention on him. He is flighty and half fairy. He never really has full control of his powers.
I liked these two together. They are really a great team. I loved this storyline too. There are many things I have not read before and loved getting to know in this story. I cannot wait for more from this series I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
Five Shooting Stars
I got pulled into this story immediately, and spent a couple of late nights as I couldn’t put it down. The world building is fabulous, with its rich history. Each species’ powers were interesting, and different.
I loved the reveal behind who Si and Grey really are, and suspect we haven’t seen everything they are capable of yet. The idea of the spirit guide being a wolf, but yet not going into werewolf/shifter territory is very cool, as is the description of how Grey sees magic. I love stories which incorporate the veil between our world and the fairy realm and I thought the way all that worked in this story was brilliant. I felt for both of them, each thinking they are less than they really are, and loved the moment when they realise their potential. Both guys are very clueless in many ways, and need to figure out more than just who they are.
The supporting cast are great. I liked Tabitha and would love to know more about her story. Jaime is interesting as is his power. Loads of potential there and I want his story too, and Harry’s who is his twin. Ditto for Robyn.
This is the first story I’ve read by this author but it won’t be the last. I’m already hanging out for the next book in the series.
Wonderful story of magic, fairies, elves and finding love and creating family. Amazing world-building creates a believable world where ‘guardians’ protect the ‘Folk’ who have some magic. I loved the dynamics and of these MC’s and how much they cared. The character development of the main characters and the supporting characters really made this introduction to the series so awesome. The writing was terrific and the story-line flowed really well. I found that read it through in one sitting.
Grey and Si are awesome and as they come to work together they light up your kindle. There are some wonderful surprises as these characters grow and i absolutely loved the way this book ends, a really beautiful scene.
This is book one and an amazing start to the For This series. Looking forward to book two.
I was gifted this book from the LesCourt Author Services and i freely give my honest opinion and review.
Fight for This by Suki Fleet is the first book in the For This series. It is a a paranormal story that introduces the reader to a world of magic and fairy glamour. There is drama, mystery, and action… a slow burning romance potention … definitely chemistry between characters. The characters are great… Grey and Si definitely drew me in and I am fascinated by the story. I can not wait to get wrapped up in more of this series.
This was an exciting start to a new paranormal series. I loved the characters, the action, and the romance. Grey was strong and devoted, and Si absolutely deserved him. Their unending faith in each other made them both stronger. Along with the main couple, there were other fascinating characters, including a bespelled cat and a young couple I hope will be the focus of the next installment. There are so many interesting characters at the Hall, and I’m looking forward to learning more about all of them. This is going to be a great series!
What I Think: Haven’t read any mm romance tales with the High Folk in them so there was no way I was missing this one!
My first real thought was please, please, somebody, anybody, do me a favor and hit Grey. Then hit him again with feeling. Then one more time just because. Now I can see how frustrated people get with me cause I’m so dense and have to be told everything. That does it. I’m removing myself from Grey’s team instantly. Then can someone turn around and smack Si for being such a scaredy cat.
Even though this two seemed so determined to mess things up, fate got impatient with them and tossed them smack into a series of events that forced them to overlook their fears and connect. The magic, longing, desire and love came together to create a bond so sweet and a mating so deep they were soul bound before they could take a breath.
Grey is wonderful and generous with himself and his care, not thinking twice about protecting Si as much as possible and even Si who I started out thinking was flaky turns out to have depths and layers to him that showed just how perfect he is for Grey.
My heart hurt so much for the childhood they’d both had that didn’t let them know just how special they are. Then my heart broke at the possibility of them being separated only for much bigger events to have them scrambling for solutions, while having to deal with the pull of their mating.
Thank the goddess for nosy neighbors who insist on helping in spite of these two being block heads. I simply adored Tabitha as she becomes an unwitting aide and guide for those who have more inside of them than they could ever have imagined.
The lack of communication in this tale made me want to scream until it clicked for me. And when it did, the whole tale made sense, even the struggle inside of the twins and Robyn became clear. The fight in this tale echoes the fight to self-acceptance and finally relaxing into one’s skin. If you’ve ever fought to accept yourself just the way you are, be it your sexuality, your super queerness, your health issues, etc you’ll know all too well how hard this is. As someone who’s had to fight to accept all the above in me, this tale touched me intimately. And just like we can’t move forward and create space for ourselves in this world until we begin the walk to self-knowledge, so too Si and Grey could not have a place in this world without knowing and accepting who they are. And just as things fall into place for us after that journey, so also did things fall into place for them. As satisfying as this tale was, I’m not ready to let go of them yet. I fervently hope there’ll be more tales that will show us how things progress from here because it feels like a beautiful beginning.
Verdict? A comfort tale filled with sugar and spice and the strength that self-acceptance gives!
Simon is a kind of fairy who’s attracted to Grey his co-worker and a Nomi as far as he knows. Even if Grey didn’t know what or who he really is, the two of them seems to want one thing, being together, but the headmaster of the school has other idea against them, and when the veil disappear , Si and Grey will have to understand what really happens if they want to save and protect the Folks in their life.
It was an original story that I liked.
At first i was a little bit lost, I didn’t really understand the beginning of the book and I was sure to read a sequel of another story. But the more I was reading, the more I was getting attached of the MCs and the second part of the book was very interesting captivating and promising for the series!
I adored Si and Grey, they were so beautiful and loveable, I root for them, especially Grey, from the beginning of the book.
It’s a good start for this new series, I’m curious to read the next book!
I would rate this 3.5 stars
Grey, has a crush on his friend and co-worker named Si. Good thing Si has a crush on Grey right back. But the school they both work at, run by Headmaster Greene, is full of secrets–secrets that could harm or save everyone there. At first the POV switches between Grey and Si, the main couple here, but also grows to include Jaime’s POV. They meet Jaime in a nightclub and their fates seem tied together. The cast is further rounded out by Jaime’s twin sister Harry, a student at the school Robyn, and another of the teachers Tabitha with her cat that is not a cat Luna. This is a good introduction to a range of supernatural beings, or Folk, and some of their powers.
The main romance relies heavily on the weeks prior to the book, that the reader is not privy to, in order for their relationship to work. The lust is already there but this still feels like insta-love. The love scenes have that bonded fated mate feel. Then there is a manufactured crisis to keep them apart, which goes nowhere. This book seemed fairly straightforward at first, but as the mythos is built, it gets more complicated leaving questions without answers. Everything is foreshadowed with where this story will go and the story made sense, but many things are not explained. I think the parts of the plot that are meant to be saved for the next book could have been handed more deftly, made more intriguing. As it is, it just seems like the world-building is lacking.
The other driving force of the story is the secrecy that Greene encouraged. The Veil between the worlds is failing. It’s the Veil that was created to allow Folk to hide amongst humans as long as they were careful about using their powers. Greene has been collecting faculty, staff, and students who are Folk, often some who don’t know it, and created the school for them. It is assumed for them to be safer when the Veil falls, but his is a complicated character, good and bad in turns. It is only when all the secrecy falls away, that the characters can work together to strengthen the Veil before it’s too late. This is a temporary fix, so a more permanent solution will need to found for the future to help those trapped protecting the Folk.
Since the younger characters Robyn, Harry, and Jaime will likely play a larger role in the rest of the series, this is more like a YA book about a school for Folk, like a paranormal urban fantasy version of the school in XMen. The world-building only shows what the reader needs for each scene, so it’s easy to read. I just need more than that if I am going to be kept mentally engaged. I didn’t feel attached to the characters; I feel like I know things about them, rather than that I know them, so my emotional investment was low even though it was entertaining. Overall this is a stress free read for when you want to relax with an interesting premise and cute characters.
