Fight Dirty by Emily Goodwin is the story of Charlie Williams and Owen Dawson.
2nd chance romances are my favorite type of stories and that is what we have here. Charlie and Owen never got over each other considering they were supposed to be married to each other and have a great HEA but Owen screwed up royally. Charlie never got past the hurt and now that she has moved home and has a bitter breakup in her recent past. For Owen, knowing that he gets a 2nd chance at winning the one who got away is what he wants…a chance to get a do over. Will he get that 2nd chance ? Loved the witty and sexy banter. Charlie and Owen are great in scenes together and they have amazing chemistry. The plot is spot on, their scenes sweet and the story is fantastic. Hoping for one more story in the Dawson family by Emily Godwin. These books are great!!!
My Rating: 4.5 stars *******
Emily Goodwin took me back to my favorite small town and favorite Dawson Family in Fight Dirty. I have been eagerly waiting for Owen’s story and she did not disappoint me. Fight Dirty was a sweet, emotional and sexy love story! I loved every moment of it!
Owen and Charlie has been the perfect example of childhood sweethearts. They have been madly in love till Owen freaked out about future of their relationship. Charlie moved to the big city as a lawyer but she really never moved on. Now she is back to her hometown after being cheated by her fiance and Owen is determined to win her back.
I loved Owen through all the Dawson Family books. He is the obnoxious, cheerful, charming and sexy brother who uses sarcasm as armour. He is the small town manwhore but actually he has this grieving, pining and vulnerable heart! And I was so intrigued to see the more serious and swoonworthy side of Owen. And Charlie is the perfect woman for him. She is sassy, sweet, smart and compassionate. Their chemistry was like a slow burning fire which became a blazing inferno once they decided to let it go. They had a lot of heartbreak and misunderstanding to process. But all through it, their dedication, loyalty and need was shining brightly. And the extended family people added another pleasing element.
Emily Goodwin has made me fall in love hard with Owen and Charlie’s swoony, sensual and amazing love story in Fight Dirty. It was touching, it was intense and it was sexy!

4.5 Stars!
I love Second Chance Romance, it’s one of my favorite tropes, just knowing there’s a possibility of a do-over makes me happy sigh! Fight Dirty, the fifth book in the Dawson Family series, is a perfect example of the one that got away and having a chance to correct past mistakes. It’s a Standalone and while I always recommend reading books in order, you could skip straight to this one, but why would you? Take the time to enjoy the Dawson’s, they’re a lively bunch and you won’t regret it!
Charlotte “Charlie” Williams had moved to NYC with her college boyfriend, Todd, after graduating from law school, and they were both hired at the same prestigious law firm. Charlie missed Eastwood, her hometown in Indiana where she grew up, but Todd loved the city. They were engaged now, with no wedding date in sight, he’d postponed their wedding twice. In hindsight it turned out to be the right decision, after Charlie found out Todd was having an affair with his assistant.
“If you can’t move past the past, then you can’t go into the future.”
A week later she had moved back home, to lick her wounds. If Charlie was honest with herself, she wasn’t really heartbroken about Todd. But she hated to admit she was still single, at thirty, when all she’d ever wanted was be settled down and have a family by now. It was the reason Owen, the boy she had loved and dated for over seven years, had broken up with her; she had asked him to make a commitment he hadn’t been willing to make.
“Though, really…the joke is on me. Because here I am, in my thirties now, and still single as ever and still childless.”
Owen Dawson was still single, the perpetual manwhore, he hadn’t had a relationship since he had broken up Charlie, so many years ago. Owen had ended things with Charlie for her own good, but it was a decision he still regretted. So it comes as a surprise to find out she had moved back home. And now Owen was willing to go all out, to prove to Charlie he was ready to give her everything she had wanted so many years ago. Maybe she could forgive him and give him a second chance.
“’He made you happy once.’ He did. But he also broke my heart into a million tiny pieces.”
When they’re thrown together, due to unforeseen circumstances, it’s almost as if Fate wants to correct a wrong. These two find out embers that were left smoldering are capable of burning hot once again!
“I know I’m weak right now and fighting temptation. An alcoholic shouldn’t go to a bar. A gambler should stay out of a casino. And I should stay far, far away from Owen Dawson.”

This is not my first read by author, she is a definite favorite!! So you bet your behind I was excited for this one!
The story starts of breaking your heart because Charlie really didn’t deserve what she got. After that, moving back or rather going back to her childhood home to slump out…was the best idea ever. Except her sister had other ideas. In sooo many ways, not only did she run into the Dawson’s minus the a-hole Owen but they are also building her sisters house. She just left one heartache, don’t need to walk into another…again! Can’t be worse than the tool Todd is, good lord…what. a. tool.
I absolutely love CHARLIE (heroine) I mean i fell in love with her the moment she told Todd to go F*ck himself! Still, what a tool! haha, anyways, she is trying to come out of all of this stronger, by moving on…and i applaud her for it. Yes, she wallowed in her old child bedroom for a while but we all are allowed that right! So now that she has a plan, things will get better….right? Well, if only Owen didn’t live in the same town, maybe!
From the Book:
Owen was my world. If only I was his…
Now Owen and Charlie have to co-exist. One still hurt by the other and the other beating themselves up because they left the one good thing in their life. The struggle!! When Owen proposes an offer, Charlie would be crazy to take it but the current situation she is in…probably wold be the latter. Maybe if he can just prove to her what kind of a man and changed man he is now, maybe he can not only fix her heart but his too. BUT…that is a huge responsibility for someone like Owen who is the easy-going laid back I-sleep-with-different-woman sometimes two at a time charmer. How can Charlie ever trust him after those many years ago, how can he all of a sudden want what she wants…*sigh* I don’t want to say too much but as fun as this story was, it’s very emotional, deep and heart wrenching! Watch out for that sweet slow burn that ignites a hell of a wall of fire when fueled! Not to mention the fact that Owen does PLAY DIRTY and I loved it, in a romantic sort of way too!!
A MUST READ!

5 FAVORITE DAWSON BROTHER STARS!! OMG…..Owen just took my breath away!! I absolutely loved Owen he is sexy, hot, confident and cocky. Owen and Charlie get a second chance and watching their story play out out was perfection. Emily Goodwin never disappoints with her storytelling and she writes the best guys ever. I highly recommend this book and series…..it is so good.
Such a great book absolutely loved it
This. Book. Was. Awesome.
I mean, I could leave that as my review. It would totally capture every thought I had with total accuracy. But I’ll expand on things a little.
This one is a slow burn. Like, slow. BUT Emily Goodwin does a great job of building the tension, making you feel their chemistry, and really getting you primed and ready for that first explosive encounter. And man is it hot!
Owen is… he’s a sweetheart. Plain and simple. Throughout this series, we have seen him as the fun, maybe immature, sex-crazed, player of a brother to all of the Dawson siblings. But in this one, we get the real Owen. The changed Owen. We see the Owen that Charlie needed the first time they were together.
And while you literally can’t stop yourself from falling for Owen, Charlie is equally as awesome. Coming off of a cheating ex-fiance, she’s ready to get settled on her own again, back in her home town, to mend her heart. She doesn’t wallow in self-pity, for long, and she’s strong and determined to get back on her feet and make a life for herself on her own.
But, fate, and some meddling sibs-in-law, have other plans!
This slow burner was insanely cute, sweet, and perfect. It was so well written and I loved everything about this book and the feels it brought out.
Fight Dirty 5th Book in the Dawson’s Series (Can be read as a standalone)
5 Stars
What an amazing sweet sexy second chance romance!! Very fast paced page turning story! Couldn’t put this down! Very well written! Love the characters!
Loved it and you will too!
I will never tire of reading a Dawson family story. The way the characters are so intertwined…It’s like the other stories never really end. Owen and Charlie’s story was no different. Getting to know the real Owen in this book made it hard not to love him. He’s always been likable as the jokester and the playboy. But getting to see him emotionally vulnerable got me right in the feels. And for me Charlie was such a relatable character. I was truly invested in these two and rooting for their second chance from the start. Easily my favorite in this series.
Fight Dirty is everything you want it to be! Sexy, funny, sweet. A cocky dirty talking apha. A smart and sassy heroine. Second chance romances are my favs and this one does not disappoint!!!
Five cheers (and stars) for Owen & Charlie!! Their second chance is perfectly paced, full of fun banter and swoony goodness, and was a quick, page turning read for me! I absolutely fell in love w/ Owen’s sense of humor in Logan & Danielle’s story, but wasn’t a fan of some of his other personality traits. Those are explained & not an issue in his own story, which made me happy. Heh.
I love the way both Owen & Charlie are w/ their nieces & nephews, and just the whole family dynamic I fell in love with in Cheap Trick as well. This was just an entertaining, low angst, fun read!! : )
Oh y’all! How I love my Dawson’s! Just when I think I couldn’t possibly love this family more, Emily Goodwin releases another book! If you’ve read the other books in the series, you know Owen Dawson is a one-night man. He has a reputation for being amazingly talented for the ladies lucky enough to get between his revolving sets of bed sheets. Understand though, all your gonna get is a good servicing! He’s up front and honest and makes no apologies for it. He had only been serious once in his life and that had been with his high school and college sweetheart, Charlie, but at the time he wasn’t on the same page as Charlie and made some decisions leaving them both devastated. Now, Charlie is this gorgeous, successful lawyer originally from Eastwood, living in NYC with her fiancé. However, when she discovers some betrayal on his part, she leaves and heads back home to Edgewood to stay with her parents. She’s just hoping she doesn’t run into the guy that broke her heart( and may secretly still hold a part of it). This book is full of funny things, fate and two family’s conspiracy’s in attempts to get Owen and Charlie back together. Owen being the most determined of all, and he knows Charlie will need major convincing. I love the push and pull banter between them. They have both grown so much since high school and college so it was great to see Charlie get to discover and get all “hot and bothered” over adult Owen. I mean watching him with his nieces and nephew. Holy. Damn! I love this story so much. It’s not overly angsty or dramatic, it was just sassy and sweet and super hot. Pure perfection! It’s freakin Hot.As.Hell too !I would say it’s a relatively slow burn. Yes!! Y’all, I love Owen and Charlie’s story. I wanted them to get their HEA, but there’s a lot of old hurt that has to be forgiven for that to happen. Will Charlie forgive Owen for deciding both their futures for them when they were younger adults? Will Owen’s perseverance pay off? This is a must read small-town, second-chance romance. I floved every single second. Grab this book today. So many stars for this book!
*I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book.
Awwww I loved Owens book! Finally we get into the head of the ladies man Owen. And holy he does not disappoint at all! And Charlie …. Us readers could not of asked for a better match for him. She is smart, funny and is just what he needs. These two madly in love since high school, but their timing was a bit off, and they had some growing up to do. Now both together in the same town, they have the chemistry we all want. I loved each book in this series , but I think Owen is my fav.
Owen, Owen, Owen, . This was one of the best second chance romances I’ve read. Complete opposite of all the others because of the humor. Who would’ve thought that Charlie was just as amazing as Owen?! And who would’ve thought that Owen never changed and used his charm and humor to get her back from the minute he sees her?! Lol….. of course they were the emotional moments when the my relived the past or even the event that made Charlie return home but other than that typical Dawson’s, hahahahaha. Loved it!!!!! These two were perfect for each other and what Owen wants Owen gets. I love this family and their spouses with the exception of Dean’s spouse, lol.
Wow i loved it. This is the book i was most excited over and it didn’t disappoint. I couldn’t put it down and i will be recommending this whole series to friends because every book in the series got better and better.
Fight Dirty by Emily Goodwin is the story of Charlie Williams and Owen Dawson.
Charlie moved away from her home town become engaged and should have everything. But of course things weren’t great and she started to learn about her cheating fiancé. Now she has returned home to start again. Owen lost Charlie and knew he wanted her back but she had went on with her life, so he put up the playboy front. Now that she is back he starts to move forward for his goal to get her back.
Another amazing book on this amazing series, I could never get tired of reading everything on these brothers. Fight Dirty was everything I was hoping for, Owen had me swooning and laughing like crazy.
From the previous books, we already know that Owen is not into the dating, marriage, or kids life. He is happy being the fun uncle, the ladies man, and the flirt. Owen doesn’t want to make time for love, not ever since the only person to ever make him feel things left. I loved how Owen knew from the start what were his feelings, he never denied them, he never tried forcing himself in situations where he knew didn’t make him happy. When ‘the one that got away’ comes back into town, he is ready to fight and get what he didn’t think he would ever get again…. the girl.
Charlie just wants to get away, after finding out that her fiance was cheating on her the last thing she expects is to run into the guy who she left years ago. I loved Charlie so much, she was someone who had so much inside her, so many emotions and feelings. I loved these two so much, the chemistry was off the charts, I was so happy that we finally got to see Owen get his HEA, he more than anyone deserved to find someone who made him smile and feel whole.
Emily Goodwin NEVER disappoints, this book is a must read!!
4 Stars
Fight Dirty is the fifth book in the Dawson Family series and can be read as a standalone.
There was a time when Owen and Charlie had it good, but that’s until Owen broke it off unexpectedly. Though Owen never got past his love for Charlie and he regrets ever breaking her heart. And now that Charlie is back home, Owen will stop at nothing to show Charlie he’s changed and that he wants her back.
Charlie is back in Eastwood after a bad breakup. She crosses paths with her first love, Owen. Old feelings resurface, but the past hurt is still there for Charlie. She tries to put on a good fight, but Owen’s charm and determination will have something to say about that.
Owen and Charlie will have you rooting for them and their second chance. These two were adorably cute. And they were definitely easy to root for.
Fight Dirty was a fast paced and low on angst read. A sweet second chance romance filled with adorable and swoony moments. Also, it was good to catch up with the rest of the Dawson family. An enjoyable read.
Fabulous second-chance romance. Owen and Charlie fell in love as teens with an intense and consuming connection. As they graduated college, Charlie was ready for a bigger commitment but Owen, well, he was scared and not ready for that step, so he breaks up with Charlie. This pushes Charlie to move on with her life, fulfilling the goal to be a lawyer and she found a different guy. When what she thought was the man, she would marry committed the ultimate betrayal, she finds herself leaving the big city and heading for her childhood home to lick her wounds and figure out what to do next. Of course, going home means she will see Owen again, her first love, the one man she’s never stopped loving. Owen is surprised when he sees Charlie again. We all have regrets and his is pushing Charlie away, but he wasn’t ready for commitment, he was still young but now, he’s grown up and is ready for that next step, marriage and kids. What he finds is a hurt Charlie that doesn’t want to give him another chance. Well, to get what you want, the love of your life, sometimes you must fight dirty and Owen pulls out all the stops to prove to Charlie the depth of his love and commitment for her. But will Charlie let him past her walls? I love the Dawson family and Owen’s story delivered on all the crazy family drama while revealing the hidden parts of him. He loves fiercely and winning Charlie is what he wants most. Charlie is tough, she loves a great fight which is why she chose a career in law, so she doesn’t make this easy for Owen. I also appreciated that they both had to grow-up, find their true path which makes loving each other that much sweeter. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Yay! I’m so happy we are back in Eastwood with the Dawson’s. I love this series, it has a little of everything and is always so well written.
Fight Dirty is Owen’s story and it’s a second chance romance.
When Owen and his then girlfriend Charlie graduated they wanted different things. Owen wasn’t really ready to settle down forcing him and Charlie to go their separate ways, both with broken hearts. Now years later and Charlie is back in Eastwood after a breakup. When she bumps into Owen you know immediately that all those feeling between them are still there but Charlie is wary of Owen, he broke her heart once before what’s to stop him from doing it again but for Owen she’s always been the one that got away and he’s determined to fight with everything he has to her back and this time it will be forever.
Another great story from Emily Goodwin and this book come highly recommended by Crazy Cajun Book Addicts!
