Owen Dawson is one of Eastwood’s most eligible bachelors. He could have any woman he wants, but when it comes to settling down, he only has eyes for Charlie Williams, and he blew his chance with her years ago. While Owen is busy trying to convince everyone—and himself—that the playboy life is for him, Charlie is trying to put her life back together. After discovering her fiancé was cheating on her, … cheating on her, Charlie packs her bags, leaves her fancy New York job, and goes back to the one place she never thought she’d return to: home.
Determined to start over and stay far, far away from men, the last thing Charlie needs in her life is her first love, Owen…and the old feelings that come rushing back the moment she lays eyes on him. While Charlie swears to avoid romance of any kind, Owen is willing to do whatever it takes to prove he’s a changed man and win Charlie back…even if it means fighting dirty.
**FIGHT DIRTY is a second chance romance and can be read as a standalone novel.**

I love this author. This whole series is wonderful.
Y’all know I’m a sucker for second chance romance and the anti is UPPED when the hero knows how to grovel and is DETERMINED to win his woman back. That’s exactly what Emily Goodwin gives us with Owen and Charlie in Fight Dirty! This was the perfect mix of emotion and slowburn and heat, yet it sort of gives credence to the idea that the “right woman” can make/encourage a man to get his ish together. My favorite part though, is how real Charlie is – you can’t leave the demise of a that kind of relationship unscathed and she embodied the strength and vulnerability of the situation perfectly. And as much as you may have lingering and real feelings for your first, Charlie and Owen show that it takes time to get to know each other again as adults before you can truly come together again. I’ll admit, I’m a bit behind with this series and missed reading Cheap Trick, but after getting back in to the world here, I’m itching to go back and catch up. That being said, the book read perfectly fine as a standalone, but I promise you, you don’t want to read Fight Dirty alone – go ahead and meet the rest of this dynamic family and the people they love! 4 out of 5 wine glasses.
Oh Owen Dawson I have greatly anticipated your story and boy was I not disappointed that you put an end to your man hoe days and with someone as wonderful as Charlie. The only thing wrong with this book is that this is the end of the Dawson family series…..scratch that omg yay we get Deans story. I cannot wait to continue with this family if only for one more book.
This was a good read for me. The writing flowed well, and I love this author’s writing style. Owen and Charlie were good together, and I thought they had great chemistry. I was so happy to see Owen slow down his playboy ways before Charlie comes back. I wouldn’t have liked to see him be with someone else while Charlie was in the picture. Charlie was a good heroine, even though I felt like she jumped a little too quickly back with Owen. Other than that, there wasn’t a whole lot of drama in this book. It was a nice, easy read. Sometime those are just what you need 🙂 I loved seeing the other couples in this one and getting little updates on them. The ending was sweet, and Owen and Charlie get their HEA.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
I couldn’t wait for this Dawson Family book! I enjoyed this story so much! I loved getting to reunite with the Dawson Family and go on this new journey. There was a great amount of heart, humor, and blushworthy moments throughout!
I adored Charlie and Owen! I loved that there was history there between the two. It was great to be in their minds and feel every bit of what they were feeling. I liked what their families brought to the story as well!
With Fight Dirty, Ms.Goodwin created a read that you’ll have to finish in one sitting! If you haven’t met the Dawson Family you need to soon! (:
*I volunteered to read and review a Copy of this book from Social Butterfly PR / the author*
What a delight of a read that was packed with the angst and the feels. I felt the story had a great story line and kept a great flow/pace to the read that was easy to devour in one sitting.
4.5 stars!
OMG, how do I love Emily Goodwin’s books! Especially this series! And I also love second chance romance stories. Charlie and Owen were together a long time ago when they were young. The Owen let her go. She thought for the wrong reasons. Bit now Charlie is back in town after ending her engagement in NYC. She is back and Owen sees his chance to win Charlie back.
Fight Dirty by Emily Goodwin is the fifth book in her absolutely awesome Dawson Family series. This story is a second chance romance with the beautiful Charlie returning to her hometown to lick her wounds and regroup after finding her fiancé cheating on her. What she isn’t ready for is Owen Dawson, the lingering feelings and push and pull between them is scorching.
Owen has been a professed playboy pretty much since Charlie walked out of his life. Convincing everyone and trying to convince himself that being a playboy and living a bachelor life is everything he has ever wanted. But it isn’t and when Charlie returns he gets a second chance at love. Now he just has to convince Charlie. Good luck with that.
Emotional, funny, a little angst and a whole lotta romance and heat. Loved this. Enjoy!
This book was everything I could have hoped for and more! Owen and Charlie’s story was perfectly imperfect and oh so swoon worthy!
The chemistry between Owen and Charlie was intense and off the charts. There was no denying that despite their past, their love for each other was deep, all-consuming, and regardless of what happened would always remain.
I loved seeing the way Owen acted with Charlie. It was undoubtedly clear that he would do anything for her. Whatever he could to make her smile, make her laugh and just make her happy for the rest of their lives. Owen is genuine, and with Charlie it’s clear he can be completely himself with her.
And Charlie, it was clear as day that she could be completely herself with Owen. She never had to fear judgement or pretend to be something she was not, because Owen loved her for exactly who she was. Charlie was such a strong character and I loved to see her personal growth and journey, because despite her pitfalls and her broken trust, she was able to open up again and put her heart on the line.
Once again this family never seizes to amaze me. I have fallen hopelessly in love with the Dawson clan forever. Owen and Charlie are the perfect cherry on top <3
I love the Dawsons! I wish this series would last forever! Fight Dirty is a second chance romance that will just make you swoon, and leave you begging for more!
Owen Dawson is Eastwood’s most eligible bachelor, and Charlie Williams is the girl he wants. But also the girl he crushed all those years ago. Owen claims he never wants to fall in love and have a family, but is that the truth or does he only want it with the one person he can never have again?.
Charlie decides to move back to Eastwood and leave New York after finding out her fiance cheated on her. Moving back in with her parents and working at her dad’s law firm is not idea but sometimes things happen for a reason.
Owen and Charlie still have amazing chemistry and the attraction is still there. The rough end to their past relationship is definitely still on Charlie’s mind but Owen is determined to prove to her he has changed and wants nothing more than to be with her.
Fight Dirty has everything we have come to expect and love in an Emily Goodwin book, and Dawson Family novel. I couldn’t stop reading this book but never wanted it to end. This is a fantastic read I could not put down. We all knew that when the right girl came long Owen Dawson would fall and he would fall hard, and she would have to be absolutely amazing to make him fall. Charlie is everything that Owen needed in his a person.
What a bittersweet book to read, Owen’s story marks the end of the Dawson Family. Yes, he is the last one! I absolutely love this series and Fight Dirty was such an amazing way to the end series. All the stars for Fight Dirty, and Emily Goodwin!
A great second chance story. I loved the banter between Owen and Charlie as well as their chemistry. I enjoyed catching up with the Dawson family. Definitely a great addition to this series.
Charlie Williams and Owen Dawson we’re high school sweethearts, and went off to college together but when Charlie announced she was ready for greater commitment, Owen panicked and things ended. Now, years later, Charlie has ended things with her fiancé and is leaving NYC to move back to her home town. Charlie is still hurt by the way Owen ended things, but Owen is certain of one thing. He has to get Charlie back.
I’ve read these books about the Dawson’s and I love them all, but I think this one might be my favorite. A second chance romance packed with an all- American family and tons of chemistry.

Charlie is back home in her small hometown. It’s not where she saw herself in the future, but you gotta do what you gotta do when life gets you down. Unfortunately, the man who broke her heart first, in a huge way, still lives there, and Charlie knows she’ll eventually have to face Owen. But when she does finally see him, she knows she’s not about to let him back into her life and her heart.
Owen never got over Charlie, has always loved her, and always will. Every day since he walked away from her, he’s regretted it. Now that she’s back in town, he’s determined to get her back, prove to her he’s changed and can give her what she wanted back when he broke her heart. All he has to do is scale those walls. Easy enough…
Fight Dirty is a wonderful second chance romance. Owen is so sweet, so damn swoony and charming. But Charlie is more than his equal. She’s amazing – sweet and strong, and smart. I love how their story developed, how their obvious love for each other had never disappeared, and how Owen never once backed down in his persistence. If all the Dawson Family stories are this good, then I will be reading them all!
3.5 stars
While I did enjoy this author’s writing, Fight Dirty was just okay to me. I sincerely thought when I read the blurb, that this was going to be an automatic five star review from me. In my opinion, there was not much of a story. I am all for a slow-burn / second chance romance, but Charlie and Owen’s story didn’t develop as much as I needed it to, to make me fall in love with them. I felt like with them having a past, it would be more exciting. I thought there would be enough time for them to develop into their true characters, I thought their overall story would have more of a development, but nope, not the case. Their chemistry wasn’t jumping off of the pages, it almost felt forced, IDK. I did enjoy the witty banter between the main characters, and the secondary characters were also a delight. I loved how family oriented this book was, it was imperative and felt real. Overall, not a bad read, I personally just needed more.
Charlie is a sassy determined woman with a backbone made of steel. She puts out a good argument, which is a good thing since she is a lawyer. She is a lover of cats, and Chinese food. After being burned by love more than once, she sets out to pave her own way through life.
Owen is a love em’ and leave em’ type of guy. He is cocksure, and hilarious. Family is the most important thing in his life, and being a co-owner of a bar / grill with his twin, is another perk. He lives with only one regret, and that is letting the woman of his dreams go.
When fate steps in and gives Owen the chance to make things right, does he take that opportunity?

Before I forget I want to give a moment of silence for Captain Morgan ~ RIP
Next ~ Where can I find me an Owen?
I adored his character! He was so genuine and down to earth. Okay a bit of an ego, but it works.
He would be the results if we took a dash from every little girl’s dream prince and mixed it all together.
A bit rough and tumble ~ Soft and sweet.
He had my heart a palpitating and my lady bits …. well you get the idea.
Owen has been given a second chance and darn if he isn’t going to make it right this time. His heart never stopped loving Charlie and now it was time to get back his girl.
His character is a bit of a man-whore yet I couldn’t find it in myself to hold it against him. Be honest, tell me you could?
The closeness he shared with his siblings and the love he had for his nephews and nieces made me a hormonal mess.
And he could cook, and clean and had a job and …. *Sigh*
Charlie’s life had been a series of events that had tested her resolve, challenged her beliefs. She found herself where she thought she belonged. Heading for a future she thought she wanted. Until her eyes were opened and she realized the fairy-tale wasn’t so perfect.
Charlie kept me laughing. She was fun, a bit blinded but honest with herself when it counted. She didn’t play the game of wish I had ~ I wish I would. She analyzed, weighed facts and still managed to jump to conclusions. But then again there is always the make up s..
I enjoyed that her character was confident and intelligent yet still harbored the little girl who was never quite sure she was enough.
This is a slow build romance that engages all the readers’ emotions. The characters literally pop off the pages and the story was easy to follow and had a rhythm to it.
A slow build, a plateau, a drop then another build –
The sweetest rhythm of love
Goodness gracious! I loved Owen since the very first Dawson book, he was always so fun. I fell a little more in love with on Logan’s book but his book made me fall completely in love with him. Damn that boy turned his life around so quick. From a man whore to a one woman guy in 0.5s but I didn’t hate that. He had been waiting for a second chance ever since he broke up with the love of his life and when that second chance dropped into his lap, he grabbed it by the balls and never gave up until he achieved it. This book was fun, angsty at times and so damn sweet. I adored Owen and Charlie.
Gosh i loved this book, the story and charecters were swoon worthy and i enjoyed the fact it was about second chances at lost love with a few bumps in the road Owen & Charlotte’s path back to each other was well written. Look forward to discovering more by this author
Out of all the Dawson siblings, I think Owen has ended up being my favorite. While I have enjoyed reading all of them get their happy ending, Owen really hit me hard and so did Charlie. This was a beautiful second chance romance as these two navigate being around each other again. Their connection is still evident when they first see each other. Charlie is broken but not down. Owen hides behind this persona that he created to hide how he really is still in love with Charlie. When their lives collide again, I absolutely adored the banter that these two have. Owen doesn’t back down and Charlie, while still wanting him, still needs to figure herself out. In the long run, she cannot resist that Dawson charm!
Overall, I enjoyed every moment of this book. There were quirky moments to beyond sweet moments. And their chemistry is sizzling! If you haven’t read these siblings, I highly recommend them. Owen owns my heart now though!
I so wanna be a Dawson. I absolutely love this family. Their banter is so entertaining. They send you through all the emotions. I laugh, cry and get so freaking mad when I read a Dawson Family story. I have loved Owen through out the whole series. He was my most anticipated book of this series. And I have to say the wait to get his story was soooooo worth it. Emily pulled me from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. highly Recommend this series.
This was another great read in this series. I definitely recommend this book, this series and this author.
