This is the first book I’ve ever read by Steve Cavanagh and I discover he’s a Sunday Times best selling author – who knew!!! The book is gripping…I loved it! The writing flows whilst the plot thickens. It’s well worth a read.
The continuation of one of the best legal thriller series, the fifth Eddie Flynn story. With all its usual twists, surprises and brilliant climax, Steve Cavanagh continues the saga of the hustler turned lawyer. What a connudrum when two sisters each call 911 to announce the brutal murder of their father and accuse each other of the crime. So the redoutable Eddie and friends are called into action to defend one of the sisters and yet both appear equally guilty. Wonderful characters, great court drama and a riveting five-star can’t put down read.
Fifty Fifty by Steve Cavanagh is a contemporary psychological murder suspense that will have you glued, guessing and mesmerised from the start. It is the fifth book in the Eddie Flynn series but can be read as a stand-alone.
Two sisters stand accused of their father’s murder, each is accusing the other. One is guilty. One is innocent – now it’s up to the jury to decide and deliver the verdict. Can you correctly guess the guilty party?
The novel is very cleverly constructed as the tale is told from alternating points of view including that of the guilty party under the heading of ‘She.’ I carefully followed the action, noting the clues along the way – but try as I might I failed (again) to predict the outcome but it was a marvellous roller coaster of an emotional read.
Fifty Fifty would make a marvellous television crime drama – totally compelling and impossible to decide on the guilty party.
I thought the core characters were hard working and likable. The lawyers had strong principles and a good work ethic – both opposing lawyers only working for the party they believed to be innocent.
Steve Cavanagh is a new author to me but I want to read everything he has ever and will ever write.
I heard about Fifty Fifty via the BBC2’s Between The Covers book club series. It was an excellent recommendation and I can certainly endorse all that was said. It is an excellent read.
A man is gruesomely murdered by one of his two daughters – but which one? With a fortune at stake, they are both charged with the crime and their lawyers have to fight it out in a joint trial. Both sisters are granted bail and potential witnesses are being brutally murdered by one of them.
The reader is cleverly misdirected all the way through by Cavanagh in an expertly crafted plot.
I felt I had to read this book as there is currently such a buzz around it and, overall, I wasn’t disappointed. Have to say the ending wasn’t a complete surprise but by then you are expecting the unexpected.
Great twist at the end. It had me gripped from the first page. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books by Steve
Fifty fifty by @sscav is the second story that I’ve read and I must admit that I was even more intrigued by it because I have a sister and there was a time when only me, my sister and my father lived together.
I absolutely love the book. From the first chapter to the last, the author has a gift in making up wonder what’s coming up next and even when you know it, it turns out it’s not that! All these twists and turns, all the lies and hidden truths, everything adds up to a great story that I highly recommend for the thriller lovers.
Steve Cavanagh !!!! I could not put this book down!!!
Eddie Flynn can we meet for a pint?
I love the Eddie Flynn series and Fifty Fifty is my favourite yet, til the next one in the series.
Two sisters, each in a 911 call accuse the other of brutally killing their father saying she is still in the house please send help.
Both are charged . Eddie defends Sofia . ( I would like Eddie on my side if ever needed)
The twists and turns, more murders, who is lying , who can you trust.
The pages fly by, my beer turned warm as I forgot to drink it I was so involved in the story.
Don’t miss this series . Top of my list.
