Each book just keeps getting better and better! It’s still the same Charley, and her world is still crazy, but things seem to be finally righting for her and turning up! Fantastic story and thank you for the opportunity to review this jewel!
A mass grave. A cheating husband. A prophecy. More relationship building. Jones’s books are always packed with action.
I am so glad I decided to reread this series. I totally did not remember half the stuff that happened.
I’m hooked on this series. Reyes is such a dark mysterious character. Charley is such a feisty sarcastic heroine! I love them both! I love getting to know the side characters. They are awesome too! I highly recommend this series!
Easily the shining star of all the books—we see a marked change in Reyes and in Charly,(for the better), and I love it. I loved it 3 years ago in Kindle and find that the audio version is even more wonderful! I can’t get enough of their new maturity.
Having read the ones before this no way was I not gonna read this one since it has me enslaved. Oh my Reyes moves next door and you wonder how she will get anything done. But she has to keep it together her sister is next so on with the chase. Filled with suspense and heat you get tied up in this one racing along until you realize oh no done and on to the next one.
The entire Charley Davidson series is a joy to read. Start at the beginning and keep going until you finish the 13th book! You won’t regret it!
Noooo! How could the author leave it like that! OMG! I was not expecting that at this point in time, so it really did shock the crap out of me. The mystery of the ‘cases’ in each book keeps getting more convoluted and crazy to even begin to guess, too. I also love how we might eventually get to see more about Reyes!
Paranormal private eye and Grim Reaper, Charley Davidson, just can’t stay away from Reyes, the sexy son of Satan. Even if he is her main suspect in an arson investigation.
I freakin’ love this series!! Charley and Reyes are awesome.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.
LOVE THIS SERIES. CHARLIE AND RHYS IS A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN OR SHOULD I SAY HELL. BOOK IS ENTERTAINING, SUSPENSEFUL AND A BIT OF THE SUPERNATURAL. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
I love these books each one is better than the last and each one is surprising and a fantastic read
The fifth installment has Charley hopping out of the frying pan and jumping into the fire. Reyes becomes her neighbor but he is also a suspect in an arson case. Then dead women begin appearing in Charley’s apartment, the victims of a serial killer, and Gemma is next on the list. The only one who can keep Gemma safe is Reyes, but he wants nothing less than Charley, body and soul, as payment.
This book was awesome, just like the rest of the series. Plenty of the expected humor, sexiness and sass but this book was a little darker, more serious. We learn about really old prophecies and why Reyes was really sent! Oh, I can’t wait to start the next book. Good thing this part of the series is already written.
I want to thank NetGalley for the complimentary ebook copy of this title. Reviews are strictly my own opinion.
Can we all please have a neighbor like Reyes? Pretty please with a cherry on top?
He’s the perfect son of Satan. Gorgeous. Smart. Sexy. Protective. Strong.
Rawr!
This book is steamy, funny, and action packed! A MUST READ!
This one seemed a little tamer than previous books until things took a much deadlier turn just when I had the thought. It was also a tad darker and extremely heartbreaking. I haven’t read one of these stories and felt that it was the same as any of the previous ones. I love that each one feels different as it reveals new information even as it brings up a whole new set of questions. I definitely suggest reading these from the beginning but the author gives enough background that it’s possible you could jump in somewhere along the way.
The relationship between Reyes and Charley is growing deeper and I’m feeling more connected with him now despite never having his point of view. The secondary characters are developed in such a way that I find myself loving, hating, or questioning their motives. I suspect there are so many more surprises along the way that I don’t want to be that reader that didn’t see it coming, but I’m pretty sure that’s going to be the case anyway.
Next up, a couple of novellas, one which is from Reyes point of view. I’m itching for it!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Yet another highly entertaining, laugh out loud, sexy, fun and chilling romantic adventure for Charley and all her family and friends…. so many exciting things happen in this book, two count them two mysteries to solve, a possible cheating husband to catch and as always the on going mystery of her love life… Loved every heart pounding twist and turn in this exciting journey and look forward to more to come. These charter and this world are on my top ten favorite worlds to visit of all time.
Number five in the series. Charley’s signature humor and snark is there, along with the requisite serial killer. In this edition there is arson, more pain and tribulations. The question is why is everything that happens around our main characters basically the same as in the previous books. Still this book was entertaining and another good read.
Holy Moly! Best one so far.
Book 5, Charley’s main case is solving a possible 20 year serial killer case. A lot of dead women ages 7 and up, all with the same M.O., showed up in her apartment at the same time. Based off clothing, she can tell they died in different year spans.
Some side cases involve Charley investigating a cheating spouse, and she is still searching for the arsonist from book 4. This time she has as an inkling who the arsonist is and turning that person in could be tricky. No matter how small a case is, they do seem to have a big impact in the story. Just a hint, I was biting my nails by the end of the book because of one of these smaller cases.
A new side character was introduced in book 4. I wasn’t sure he would continue on and I’m happy to say he made an appearance in this book as well. Quinton is the deaf boy who was possessed by a demon to get to Charley in the previous book. After freeing him from that possession, what we learn abuot him just makes you fall in love with him and I love that he is continuing on with the series.
A new side character was introduced and her story is fascinating. I think she is going to add a lot to this series depending on if the author really utilizes her special talent. I’m hoping she does.
We got a few more pieces to the puzzle that is Charley. Some new abilities and more to her and Reyes story. We finally got to see some real movement to their relationship. Fingers crossed it keeps heading the way it is. A prediction was revealed that has me truly nervous.
I’m absolutely loving this series. it’s highly entertaining with some great side characters. Charley is so funny and her interactions with Cookie really had me laughing in this book. On to book six!
OVERALL SERIES DESCRIPTION: Heroine, Charley Davidson, Private Investigator and Grim Reaper. She’s a portal for the dead to pass through to heaven. Hero, Reyes Alexander Farrow, Son of Satan and portal to Hell. Since Charley can see and talk to the dead, she has helped her former cop father and current cop uncle solve cases. The main focus in each book are the cases Charley solves with the help of her best friend Cookie, her uncle and the dead victims. The side focus is the romance between Charley and Reyes and the impending war with the demons that is predicted.
This was a fun, well-written book. Charley Davidson is a paranormal private eye/grim reaper and the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, moves in next door. Terrified dead women start showing up in her apartment and she suspects her sister is in danger from a serial killer. I love reading about Charley’s adventures, her friends and family, and her interactions with Reyes. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
These stories get funnier and crazier than the last. Reyes is in constant saving mode when it comes to Charley but she is still after him for her money which is comical in itself. Garrett uncovers secrets regarding Reyes and his father. I’m loving Angel more and more. Quinton and Amber’s “friendship” is one that will have you laughing out loud. Charley’s apartment is full of guests that’s taking up more room than she has and she’s determined to find out what happened to them. This story was another fantastic read full of mystery, suspense and laughs. That ending though!!! I want Charley to say YES to everything and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
FIFTH GRAVE PAST THE LIGHT is the fifth installment in Darynda Jones’s paranormal/UF/romance/contemporary Charley Davidson series featuring twenty-something Charley Davidson-part time PI/part time grim reaper/ and full time love of Reyes Farrow-the son of Satan. Like all of the previous installments, Fifth Grave is jammed packed with humor, sarcasm, witty one-liners, t-shirt slogans, bumper stickers, murder, revenge and of course, more sex and romance with Reyes Alexander Farrow.
Fifth Grave Past the Light reveals plenty of information and answers some of our questions about the mysterious map and the key, both of which are believed to be residing on earth, awaiting their destiny. But the story surrounding the key to the map reveals the destruction of the world and in this, the truth may be stranger than fiction and the person who revealed the information is someone who has been to hell and back-literally and figuratively. He has the inside information from both Satan and his son.
Once again, Charley’s private life will be invaded by a series of spirits-twenty seven to be exact- who are drawn to her light as the grim reaper but for some reason, none of the woman are willing to move on until Charley uncovers the truth behind their murders. And it will take one small, young spirit, not much older than seven or eight to help reveal the person who may be the only one able to identify the person responsible. And in this particular case, he has a connection to Charley and her family. Oh, and someone recognizes Mr. Wong in the corner of Charley’s apartment. Let’s hope his presence and identity is finally revealed.
Cookie and Uncle Bob return as Charley’s confidants and aids. And Charley will need Ubie more than she ever thought possible when the person she was hired to tail turns out to be more dangerous than she had ever suspected.
Charley’s abilities come into question when local authorities take a look at her unbelievable record of solving cold case files and crimes. And the latest cold case to come across her desk is frighteningly familiar and heartbreaking.
The relationship between Reyes and Charley is romantic, sensual, hot and well worth the wait. Reyes, as the son of Satan, has never known love but he has found his soul mate in Charley Davidson-the one woman who is capable of putting out the fire that burns within. The romance sparks within the story as Reyes makes his feelings known to Charley and for him to make them a permanent couple will take some tricky dialogue and promises on both of their parts. Reyes is the epitome of sex on a stick; the ultimate lover and sensual male; he oozes sex appeal by virtue of his looks and presence; and it is Charley Davidson-the grim reaper who will capture his heart and his soul-forever.
Fifth Grave Past the Light is one of the best installments in the series thus far. I am still hoping that Darynda gives some life to Donovan and the Bandits and writes a series or at the very least, a series of novellas so that the reader can be kept up to date on their travels. Angel, Rocket, Garret Swopes, Gemma and Leland Davidson all play pivotal roles throughout the story. And the ending comes with a couple of surprises and not the least is the possibility of a new direction for Charley and Reyes.
Darynda Jones takes an UF/paranormal storyline and adds her sarcastic wit and humor as she pushes her series into another direction. The humor, the sensuality and the action filled storyline make this a must read for anyone who wants it all in the stories they read. Charley Davidson is a heroine who is strong yet feminine; heroic yet vulnerable; loved and yet hated by those she seeks to reveal. Fifth Grave Past the Light is an amazing and fascinating installment in Darynda Jones’s Charley Davidson series.
LOVE ME SOME CHARLEY!!! Omg!!! She is sooo funny and I love reading about her and Cookies escapades and shenanigans. I like Reyes too but I’m not 100% certain he’s not hiding something or not telling Charley something. Charley needs to investigate him and make sure she knows exactly what she’s signing up for in marrying Reyes.
