Dr. Sam Fierce is intelligent, sexy, and charming with a personality and carefree nature that has women flocking to him left and right. He’s still single though and has no plans on changing that any time soon. He’s seen things in his line of work that has scarred him emotionally, but he’d never let anyone know that either. So for now, he’s happy with his life…sort of.Dani Rhodes spent her … spent her teenage years trying to find a place in the ground next to her younger sister that she felt she failed. She blamed herself and couldn’t understand why no one else did. With her parents standing by her, she pulled her life together and made something of herself. But a decade later she is still single because her rotten taste in men just can’t seem to escape her. After all, she doesn’t deserve anything better in her mind.

Sam Fierce is a doctor and the oldest of the three fierce children of Grant and Diane Fierce. One would think since Sam is a doctor, he would know how proud his parents are and have all sorts of confidence, but not Sam.
Dani is a hairstylist and owns her own business at 27. Dani’s whole life is that business because she feels she has to many inner demons for any sort of committed relationship.
I liked this story a lot. It made me think. I would think doctors would know how proud their parents are, I mean who doesn’t want their child to be a successful Dr.? Looking at Sam’s perspective of being the eldest, I can understand having doubts since he didn’t follow his father’s career, so this story gave me something to think about. I loved the prior characters of the Fierce Five and am glad to have them make a cameo appearance. Diane Fierce is no Jolene Fierce when it comes to meddling, but she seems to be the boos of this Fierce family. It’s a warm story that (I think) makes the look at different perspectives of the medical profession. It’s a story that shows what we think we what may not be what we thought at all. RECOMMENDED
After Sam loses his first oncology patient due to complications with anesthesia and sees how it affects his spouse, he closes himself off to romantic feelings afraid to get hurt or hurt the one he’s with. He doesn’t get involved in serious relationships until he meets Dani. Dani blamed herself or her sister’s death and punished herself with drugs, alcohol, and dating men who were losers. She thinks Sam is way out of her league and doesn’t expect that he’d want more than a causal relationship with her. But when it last much longer than any relationship she’s been in before and her feelings for him deepen, she starts to want something stronger. But can they both get past their holdups and fears to get there? I can’t imagine working with cancer patients every day. I can see why it would take a toll on a person emotionally. I was exasperated with Sam for holding her at arm’s length and becoming clinically detached when he thinks something might be wrong with Dani. But Dani also needs to think better about herself, be proud of her successes, and not run at the first sign of trouble.
Another Fierce family member is bitten by the love bug when he’s looking in the other direction. In this standalone story the author catches those of us who have read the series up on the Fierce Five and introduces the cousins, aunts, and uncles. For those who have not read the first five stories, they will just be characters in a book and you won’t be lost.
Sam is a busy ER doctor and Dani owns a successful hair salon. Sam’s mother sends him to Dani for a long overdue (in mom’s opinion) haircut. Neither is interested in a relationship and Dani especially is a wounded soul. Reading along as they find themselves and then each other is very satisfying.
Enjoyable as usual from this author.
Mothers
Sam’s mom has decided her boys need to find love and give her and her husband grandchildren. Dani owns and runs her own hair salon and that is where his mom finds her. She gives him her card and tells him he needs a hair cut. From the beginning they hit it off, but he is sacred of commitment and she doesn’t think she is good enough.
Loved this story about Sam and Dani. Sam is the oldest and a surgeon and Dani is a hair stylists. Of course Sam’s mom set up to get an appointment with Sam to get his hair cut and he asked her out. Sam has been hard on herself, because when she was a teen she had to babysit her 9 year old sister and she was hit by a car. So they like each other’s company but sometimes their professions get the better of them, especially Sam. HEA
I have read almost all of Natalie Ann’s books. Her other Fierce series, the cousins of this one, I believe was better. I just couldn’t connect to Sam and Dani. I didn’t feel their connection to each other. They were both workaholic’s that didn’t want to settle down. And you know this because the author tells you almost all the time. I felt the author repeated the same thought over and over. I get that Dani feels guilty that her sister died. But I don’t need to read it every time they mention her sister. You told us, you don’t need to keep telling us.
Maybe she did this in her other books, it’s been awhile since I read them, but I found myself skimming and forcing myself to finish the book. I’ll give the next book of this series a chance. Maybe it will be better.
