Wow! This series just keeps getting better and better. I love it!
Hazel is on delivery and happens upon Jesse. Jesse who has been absent for months now, naturally shows up out of the blue. What could this mean? Yep you guessed it, another mystery. Mystery always seems to turn up when Jesse is around. This time one of her own coven has disappeared. It looks as if something dragged her away.
Detective Sean Admiral is on the scene and this time he seems to be trusting Hazel a bit more. But the mystery of the missing coven member is just the tip of the iceberg.
In the last book her Aunt Linda was taken away by the Council for crimes unknown to Hazel. Things get rather dicey when Aunt Minerva suggests a break out. With surprise family showing up in town, Hazel seems to feel a darkness is coming. Can Hazel discover what is going on or will more coven members disappear?
These books have a bit of everything for all readers. Mystery, danger, action and a tad bit of romance. Not a lot of romance this go round, but I am hoping Hazel gets a bit of it next book. I always thought maybe her and Tristan might have a bit of something, but I am not so sure. Sean seems to be trusting Hazel more and the more he trusts her the more he opens up and shows a side of him that she is pretty sure no one else sees.
Overall this book is a page turner of fun and Hemlock tends to be the life of the party. I can’t wait to see what direction this series takes next, especially with the bomb dropped on us at the end of this book. Hazel is right. Something is coming alright. And it might just be the end of happy life in Wormwood.
If you love a good cozy mystery, full of paranormal fun, then this book is for you. From talking cats to hell hounds, this book is sure to keep you reading for hours on end. So pick up your copy today. If you are just discovering the Witches of Wormwood, then pick up the prequel Hemlock and Hedge and let the adventure begin.
Hazel, why are the hounds of hell at your heels?!
Hovering around 4 stars
I loved the disappearance/suspected murder mystery part of this story. Once again, Hazel Salem’s sharp powers of observation lead her to the right culprit. There are so many other subplots going on with family, townfolk, visitors and the odd dangerous animal or five! Maybe a few too many.
Hazel’s grumpy and snarky familiar Hemlock gets some priceless LOL scenes and Hazel’s fortunes in the pet stakes change. She’s not as lucky with her relatives as she learns about new ones and has to help deal with the fallout from her aunt’s past actions. The family drama appears to have nothing to do with the disappearances and, in my view, distracts a bit too much from the murder investigation. But it is building to flesh out Hazel’s origins and how she fits in, something that has threaded through the whole series, so I accept that it’s useful in the bigger series picture.
The story is well-written, the heroine eminently likable, and Wormwood’s townsfolk are suitably strange. I just wish the story had focused to a greater extent on the murder mystery.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Two members of Hazel’s coven go missing after receiving threatening letters, so when Hazel herself receives a letter she puts herself on the case to solve the mystery. Can she figure out what is happening in Wormwood before she too goes missing? With the help of her trusty (difficult & snarky) familiar Hemlock, she discovers it might have something to do with her aunt, so it looks like a jailbreak might be in order.
This is the third book in a well-written cozy mystery series. Readers will find a great mixture of wit, wonderful characters, paranormal beings, mystery, a bit of suspense, and lots of crazy adventures. This has just enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged until the very end.
This series just keeps getting better! We get to know the characters better as time goes on and the mysteries get better too. Lots going on in this little hamlet! Can’t wait to find out about Hazel’s father and her heritage.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Hazel has a lot on her platter. Her aunt is still missing, taken by the witch council. There’s another murder in Wormwood. This is a witch from Hazel’s coven and it looks like a wild animal such as a hellhound is involved. Jesse is opening his own PI office or is he?
This book has lots of twists and turns along with great character growth.
This is the 3rd book in the series and you will want to read the earlier books to fully understand the story line. I enjoy all of Ruby Loren’s series but this is fast becoming my favorite.
Out to make a delivery Hazel runs into Jesse and of course he tags along and they find a mystery. Now if that is not bad enough Jesse has acquired Hellion Gray old shop and is opening up a PI business. Now you are going to find some super twists in Ruby’s cozy and some great one liner like “Hemlock and Hazel… the magical dream team.” There are a lot of questions in this one. What going to happen to Hazel’s aunt Linda? Did Helen just disappeared or is she dead will there be more? What does Jesse really want? Who is B? Who is Hazel father? Is Tristan really more than just a friend and what kind of trouble will Hemlock get into? This was another fantastic cozy with a super cliffhanger to boot. I love all the characters, the plot was fun and the book was engaging. It is a 5 star all the way. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
My favorite book of the series and that is saying a lot since the whole series is great! There was so much happening at once and I LOVED IT! Especially the hell hounds. Who doesn’t love a dog with glowing red eyes that can rip you apart?!
Are superstitious forces at work in Wormwood?
Blackmail, murder, hellhounds and problems within Hazel’s coven have descended on the town. Even Hazel is worried and Detective Admiral is concerned, so much so, he has asked Hazel for help.
New characters are introduced. Others have left and not voluntarily. Each book in this series seems to be evolving better than the last. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC for my honest thoughts. Enjoy!
So if you are a fledgling witch, still trying to determine exactly what powers you have – and a few seem a bit demonic, and others … ripping a hole in time/space, seeing and communing with Hellhounds, magically producing weapons out of nowhere. Cool talents for Hazel to have, but hard for her to deal with alone, as Minerva is forced abroad to deal with Linda’s challenges.
Hazel is starting to come into her own – no more fake beau with bakery Tristan, Jesse disappears, not infrequently, Sean sometimes seems friendly-ish – though aware of supernatural, not aware she is demon-ish, maybe and he is strictly human as far as she knows.
Demon deals are brokered hot and fast – and Hazel comes awry of them.
She works to get the coven working together, rather than against each other.
Miles to go, little help from her goofy cat familiar, but maybe some canine help, of a sort.
Hazel is proving very interesting – and more excitement seems to lie ahead.
hyped for the next episode in this exciting ongoing story!
Hazel is delivering tea to on of her customers when Jesse tags alone visiting. When they get to Helen’s house the door is ajar so they walk in to find a mess. There is blood everywhere and claw marks on the floor. Then they notice drag marks going out the back door to the woods. So they call the police. After they are questioned they are let go. Then Hazel gets a call from one of Helen’s friends to come over that she needs to talk to her now. When Hazel arrives at her friends house the door is open so she goes inside and finds the same mess as she did in Helen’s house. This story has twists, turns and suspense. It also includes another devil and hellhounds. Did the hellhounds drag off the women or was it murder? This is a great story and one I am sure you would enjoy.
This is the third book in this very enjoyable series and for me the best so far. The author manages to combine a clever murder mystery with an intriguing paranormal background, where Hazel is gradually coming to terms with her growing magical powers, and she is beginning to find out more about her background.
The characters in the author’s books are always really well drawn and display consistent behaviour, making them very believable.
I received an advance copy of the book but have voluntarily written this honest review.
The third book in this cozy paranormal series shows the progress Hazel Salem is making as she strives to master her magic, and learn to lead her coven. Her snarky black cat familiar, Hemlock, still drives her crazy, but with an auntie locked in jail, her remaining aunt finally starts helping Hazel while plotting a jailbreak!
Good characters, a more developed, well-written storyline, with good detail and realistic dialogue, this third installment pulls the reader into the action, instead of just “telling” the story. And the ending, with a twist or two (didn’t see these coming!), makes this the best of a great cozy witchy series.
I received and ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review with my honest opinion. I liked it so much, I also bought a copy (to go with the rest of the series I’d purchased)!
These keep getting better!!
Hazel just keeps getting better and better at her craft. Witches are disappearing with a lot of blood left behind. Is it a wild animal or something much more sinister? Hazel is finally getting some respect from the coven as their numbers start to dwindle. A jailbreak, hell hounds, devils in the details? All that and so much more!! This series just gets better with each book! The town and the people are so well developed and it’s getting harder and harder to figure out the mystery! Can’t wait for the next book!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
Another mystery to solve for Hazel in Wormwood…
A jail break need to free her aunt…
A new pet… visible to few people…
And a lots of surprises that will kept entrainment until the end…
A book for all that love fantasy
An awesome addition to this fun series! I love how Hazel handles things with her coven and how she can solve these mysteries! I have fun reading these stories and look forward to more!
More murder, excitement and learning for Hazel. Hazel is in for more adventure again. She is now the high priestess of her coven in Wormwood and takes her new position seriously. While making her deliveries she discovers a horrific scene at the home of Helen Regal, a member of the coven. Later, a similar scene at another member’s home. As usual, Hazel starts looking into the circumstances of these scenes. Meawhile, the feeling of a “dark” cloud hangs of Wormwood. Hazel can’t shake the feeling. Also, Aunt Minerva has decided that the time is right to rescue Aunt Linda from the prison of the Witch Council. With all these things going on Hazel is still learning about her powers. Jesse has competition in Wormwood with another devil and Hazel’s family appears without notice. Hazel has her hands full! Read to see how Hazel makes it safely out of this adventure. Exciting, scary and a page turner – must read. Follow the series!
The Devil is in The Details
What a book! In this episode, Hazel’s powers get stronger as she learns more about her magic and her history. These books just keep getting better. It feels like we are getting into the real meat of the story. I can’t believe that there are only 2 more episodes left. I love this series. I received this ARC for free and this is my honest review.
A new evil comes to Wormwood, in this delightfully wicked novel from a very accomplished author!. The writing is very skillful. While some threads weave from book to book, the primary mystery is solved within each volume. Highly recommended! I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
In Feverfew and False Friends there is more going on than usual. Aunt Linda has been taken by the Witch Council, 2 witches have disappeared and it looks like animal attacks again, Hazel discovers her eyes are the same color as Jessie’s and a new lawyer in town, there is coven business to conduct, a shop to run and a plan to rescue Aunt Linda. Phew! As always, there is a well written plot with lots of false trails. You do not want to miss this adventure!
So much going on in this story, which plot line do you follow:
Murders happening again and appears to be animals?
Head of her coven and what that entails? Need for new members to keep coven numbers?
Hazel has an eye color that matches Jesse and a new person in town. What does that mean?
What has happen to Aunt Linda? Who are these new ‘family ‘members? What is up with the Witch Council?
Hazel still learning what her magic is and how to use and control it it? Hell-hounds? You go girl!
What is up with my buddy Hedge? What is the non-verbal communication?
That is just what I can remember. So much to keep track of.
All of this makes for a very fast paced book that you wan to keep reading just to get the answers. You might want to read the previous books even though you could read this one first but the books are getting so that you want all those details from the previous books.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
