His kiss was fire and passion. She shivered, wondering how he knew just how to touch her, to send her spiraling into an abyss of pleasure… For centuries, the Dragon Kings have lived among mortals, forsaking their true selves. But for Kelton, hiding in the realm of shadows–and existing only in the world of dreams–is no longer an option. A human woman claims to know that he, like other dark … he, like other dark warriors of his kind, is real. That the legends about these powerful, seductive men with hearts ablaze are true. And that, with just one embrace, Kelton could destroy her…or love her until the end of time.
Bernadette Davies is an anthropologist who knows better than to fall into the arms of a Dragon King. But how can she resist Kelton when he’s so willing to share his secrets and bare his soul? He hasn’t met a beautiful, trustworthy woman like Bernadette in…forever. But once they give into their mutual desire, their worlds will never be the same. Soon Bernadette must face her dilemma: Should she expose the truth about Kelton in the name of science? Or join him in his battle with the dark forces–in the name of love?

Fever (Dark Kings #16) by Donna Grant ..I can not state how much I love the DARK KINGS…thanks so much to Donna Grant, the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. Donna got me from the first page and still hasn’t let me go.. Kelton (DK) and Bernadette Davies (Anthropologist) meet when she gives a lecture stating that dragons are real and he is there to find out what she knows. Usaeil (Ubitch ) is using her to get to the Kings. There is violence, angst, mystery, laughter, tears, steamy stuff, some answers, some more questions, lots of old friends…all getting the their HEA. I can’t wait for the next book!!!
Anthropologist Bernadette Davies is about to reveal the truth about Dragons. She has found a way to link certain evidence together to try and prove her theory. Dragon King Kelton has been sent to find out what she knows. He doesn’t expect the beauty before him nor the attraction. Kelton needs to find a way to gain Bernadette’s trust but he does not quite realize that someone else is feeding Bernadette with a plan they are intent she follow that could destroy them all.
Another highly entertaining book from Donna Grant. There is so much to the book that it is impossible to delve into everything. Had several twists and turns and am looking forward to the next book takes us. I liked Kelton a lot, he has a ton of swagger and a perfect compliment to Bernadette.
This has been such an amazing read, so much better then I was anticipating. I was consumed and captivated with Fever. Donna Grant has written a phenomenal story. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
Bernadette Davies is an anthropologist who knows dragons are real and she is sharing that fact with the world. Dragon King Kelton needs to find out what she knows and figure out how to mitigate the damage. He figured she was smart but didn’t expect her to be beautiful and open. Just cause he can’t stop thinking about her and wanting to protect her doesn’t make her his mate does it.
Fever, like the rest of the Dragon Kings books, is a non-stop paranormal romantic adventure that will have you rooting for the good guys, booing the bad guy/s and hoping that our hero pulls his head out of his butt long enough to see what is right in front of him. Though this is a part of a series it can be read standalone but you are going to want to read them all.
Hottest male characters in any series. Yummy
This is part of a fantastic series. Fever is book #16 of the Dark Kings. To really enjoy it I think it’s necessary to have read all or parts of the series to understand everything. Donna does fill in some things but to have the best understanding is to have read previous books. Once you start you wouldn’t to able to stop.
Every time I think the kings are going to find and destroy the others they are thrown another curveball. Kelton has been sent to check out Bernadette, an anthropologist, that swears dragons exist. She doesn’t just have wild guesses she has statements of fact that when all is added up it is pretty hard to dispute. She has physical proof as well. By the time she is done dazzling the crowd with suspicions they don’t care about proof they are believers.
Kelton walks away shouldering impeding doom. She is believable. She could cause real damage. Something must be done. He is the man to do it. He fills her with doubt. She questions what she knows. She questions her source, the Queen of the Light.
This is going to be battle the reader won’t soon forget. The Queen isn’t who she pretends to be. The gloves are off. Hopefully the dragon kings and their mates will be the ones standing when the battle ends.
This story felt like it should have been a novella rather than a full novel in the overall series. Even fresh from reading this story for a second time I’m hard-pressed to think of why it ended up being so long even though there were quite a few things going on. We think we’re getting to the point when answers will start trickling in, but there are a couple more mysteries brought in that have a few more moves to make before we can get the answers we’ve been longing for. That’s kind of the prevailing theme of this particular book, to have questions but no complete answers.
There was a big fight scene, but it was anticlimactic. That was understandable though as there are a few books yet to go in the series until we get to see everything really go down. Up to this point the romance was quite a roller coaster. At some moments there was tenderness, understanding, exploration, and something soft and wonderful, and at others there were a whole lot of hurt and denials. Keltan’s vehement, adamant denials of Bernadette being his mate got very, very trying. There are only so many times it needed to be said and yet it happens again and again and again in the same way that it became less effective each time and a whole lot more annoying. I understood it, kind of, but I just didn’t like it.
Bernadette on the other hand, grew into someone I truly respected. She started off as smug and self-righteous, but soon after learned that not all was as it seemed. When she learned just how far someone has gone to put her in the position Keltan found her in she opened her eyes and her head to all of the truth. And finally, FINALLY, someone who actually follows their intuition and asks solid questions that most readers have been shouting throughout the course of the series. She also brought up excellent points and expressed them with an inner strength that gave her the determination to follow her gut. I’m very much looking forward to where that goes.
Getting closer to the end of the series is a little bittersweet, but I’ve become so invested that I find myself glad there are a few more stories between me and the ultimate confrontation. So while this wasn’t my favorite book as a whole in the series, there were parts that set it apart. For me it was Bernadette’s insight, curiosity, and forthright honesty that made the book worth reading. Bring on the next!
What a fantastic read and a great addition to the series. This book was a wild ride it was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster my emotions was all over the place. There plenty of intrigue, suspense, action, and of course steamy romance to keep you hook from beginning to end but that’s not all. I was on the edge of seat waiting to see what would happen next because there always something going on. The ending OMG I can’t wait to see what else is in store for this series. I received a free copy via Netgalley I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Yay!!! Stuff is finally happening!! You do have to wait a bit for it and there’s still lots to happen in the future, but finally, the story that has been going throughout this series is being addressed more hands on. Even the characters were like why in the heck did we wait so long to do something. Usaeil is still the moron with her fingers in a whole bunch of pies; causing more problems that should’ve been dealt with long ago. Constantine was a complete idiot about so much and I can’t believe he did what he did for a little information. I feel bad for his mate; he has a long ways to go with me. Rhi is tough, but fragile; hopefully she can withstand and rise above.
The focal couple for this book is Kelton and Bernadette. She’s been trying to let the public know that dragons do exist, so Kelton has been tasked with finding out what she knows and discredit her. There’s more at play though and things shouldn’t be taken at face value. The chemistry and attraction between the two begins to pull them together. Sweet and sexy romance.
Overall, the whole story is truly entertaining and interesting. I’m loving this series; some books more than others, but overall, a really great series. Hope we will finally get Rhi’s full book soon. Please!
Every Dark King book by Donna Grant is a treat, and Fever is no exception. The Dragon Kings are sexy Scots with an enormous sense of honor and chivalry. In Fever, we meet Kelton as he connects with Bernadette, who is determined to show the world dragons exist. Fever is an intense ride. The series is so close to its conclusion, and so many things are at stake. Admittedly at one point in the narrative, I took a peek at the end of the story. The anticipation was too much for me.
The romance between Kelton and Bernadette is what you would expect from this series. An almost instant attraction exists between the two, but it doesn’t hinder my enjoyment. Kelton and Bernadette’s journey is unique to them and worth the experience.
Random spoilery thought: As much as Con’s absence bothers me, I enjoy Ulrich in charge. It is a valid way to experience the what-if of it all, and he is doing a marvelous job.
The early copy of Fever I received is a great read. I suggest it to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance. All relevant information from past books is explained in Fever. Although this late in the series do yourself a favor and read from the beginning, it is quite a ride. Now, I confront what always seems like a long wait for the subsequent book in the series.
Another great read by Donna Grant, so easy to get lost in!
Fever is the 16th book in Donna Grants Dark Kings world. The story of Keltan who doesn’t want a mate and Bernadette who is out to prove to the world there are dragons among us. This book was more than their story though, some situations come to a close but that leads to even more questions. I smiled, I cried, I wanted to throw things.
It is hard to say much and stay spoiler free…Keltan and Bernadette (aww slow smolder) Ulrik (perfect) Con (thought so) Rhi (dang girl!) Ubitch (HA!) Balladin (Oh) So much story left to go, so few books to get there.
I have been an avid reader of Ms. Grants books for the past 7 years. I do recommend reading all the books in the series. The Dark World is vast and knowing everything that has come before makes the ride so much more enjoyable. Her website has a reading order list to make it easy. As someone who reads a lot, and I mean a lot, I love the Dark Worlds/Reapers stories she has created. Her characters are strong, smart and full of heart, no whimpering, whining females here!
While the rest of the world is binge watching tv shows, I’m over here binge reading! Start at the beginning, you won’t regret it. As a matter of fact, I think I may go back there myself – again.
Starting a new Dark Kings book is always a little nerve-wracking for me. As a long time fan of the series, I’m always a little anxious that the newest book won’t live up to my expectations. The thing of it is, even when they don’t meet my initial expectation, they tend to surpass it in some other way. Such was the case with this book. Keltan is the dragon that does not want a mate, insistent that they make dragons weaker, so I was really looking forward to seeing his fall in this story. He fell, yes, but the relationship between him and Bernadette wasn’t what I was expecting. Less raging fire and more flickering candle. That’s not to say I didn’t care for their relationship. It was somehow slow-burn given the brief amount of time the couple was together. Ultimately, I think they’re the perfect match for one another and I was impressed by the heroine’s determination to proceed with caution.
So why am I giving the book five stars? The answer is simple-this book delivered on so much more than a romance. SO MUCH MORE! As a reader, I loved seeing long-time plots play out. The anticipation of wondering which direction the battle between the Fae and the Dragon Kings would play out was delicious. It was all I could do not to skip ahead. I was thrilled to see Rhi front and center, and then devastated for her because of all she’s had to shoulder. For years, she has been my favorite character and this book just upped my respect for her. I’m still dying to know the identity of her King. Just when I think I may have figured it out, I find myself second-guessing. It’s frustrating in the very best way! I’m also still completely enamored of Constantine. His ability to play the long game, to remain in control of his emotional responses, and to always look out for those he considers family, is why he will always be my favorite Dragon King. He truly is the King of Kings! Lastly, the author has managed to introduce a new character that has really set things spinning in the series, ensuring that the story will continue to move forward in equally familiar and fresh new ways. I’m on pins and needles about this new character’s role! So many questions and I am looking forward to the answers.
Five stars-absolutely yes! I’d give it more if I could. If you’re a long time fan, prepare for some surprises. If you’re new to the series, don’t let the fact that this is book sixteen in the series deter you from picking it up. Keltan explains the history of the Dragon Kings to Bernadette early on in the book, allowing a new reader to quickly catch up with the who’s who and what’s what of this long-running series. It’s just enough to hook you on the story! You won’t be given so much information that the previous books would be completely spoiled for you.
The Dragon King have long existed in secret, hiding among the humans. Bernadette Davies is a successful archaeologist who believes claims she has proof of the existence of dragons. Keltan is sent to investigate her claims. Bernadette is surprised by Keltan’s open, friendly manner. The more she learns about the dragons – and Keltan in particular – the more she begins to question what’s more important to her. Should she share her knowledge or help the dragons keep their secrets.
Only the second story I have read in this series and I am beyond hooked.
(note to self – get the others)
Fantastic battle ahead, so much hurt, anguish, betrayal yet love, prosperity bloom also.
Bernadette… now there is a mystery building with this one. And I can’t wait to find out what it is.
Kelton didn’t want love or a mate? He will have a fight ahead of him for sure…
Rhi oh my heart aches for her.
So much action in this one I enjoyed every single word.
Can’t wait to see what happens to whom next.
Not reading much paranormal lately this author with this one got me to dive into one. Having read also some from this series I do enjoy these. In this one we are given a closer look at Kelton whom will melt us and Bernadette. Once they meet face to face we are given the inner struggles and the feel the burn. You also get a bonus in this because of two others in here. Oh the battle within at times for Bernadette. Danger and drama will also enter into this one with a biggie to boot. We will be turning those pages as we are consumed until you are left limp.
Donna Grant is an amazing author. Fever is the 16th in the dragon series and is worth the read. Keltan and Bernadette left me laughing, crying and begging for more. If you have not tried any of her books I recommend you start from the beginning of her books and work your way through them. I promise you will not be disappointed.
Donna Grant has more than earned the title, Mother Of Dragons.
In this 16th installment of her amazing Dark Kings series, Donna Grant somehow keeps things fresh and new. Not once did I feel as if I were re-reading.
No one does dragon shifters better.
Kelton and Bernadette are the perfect match for each other.
Fever is full of twists and turns, answered questions, angst and sorrow and at the end, this amazing author just leaves you wanting more!
Each book in this series is a stand alone so if you haven’t started just grab one and get lost inside a world of the very best kind of make believe.
Thank you Donna for the opportunity to read and review this book.
You don’t want to miss this one. If you haven’t started this series yet …. why not? Start at the beginning and hold on to your heart.
Sooo good!! Lots of things happening, lots of discoveries with some questions answered and more asked. This is brilliant!
There is plenty of love, pain, excitement, betrayal, friendship and of course magic. Dragons, fae, druids, death, reapers and even the Warriors from a previous series make appearances. Of course, the Others play a part in it too.
I don’t want to give anyway any spoilers so I will just say that you may need a couple of tissues at one point.
Oh and I dont think that Bernadette and Kelton are finished yet. Even though this book was supposed to be theirs, there was so much other stuff happening at the same time. And Bernadette has a feeling that more is about to happen involving her and Kelton.
Just finished reading the arc of this book and this is my honest opinion.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Bernadette is an anthropologist who is could expose the Dragon Kings.
Kelton is assigned to investigate Bernadette.
keep in mind, that he has no desire for a mate.
When he meets Bernadette, he knows that she is his mate.
Now what is Kelton going to do ?
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
