His kiss was fire and passion. She shivered, wondering how he knew just how to touch her, to send her spiraling into an abyss of pleasure… For centuries, the Dragon Kings have lived among mortals, forsaking their true selves. But for Kelton, hiding in the realm of shadows–and existing only in the world of dreams–is no longer an option. A human woman claims to know that he, like other dark … he, like other dark warriors of his kind, is real. That the legends about these powerful, seductive men with hearts ablaze are true. And that, with just one embrace, Kelton could destroy her…or love her until the end of time.
Bernadette Davies is an anthropologist who knows better than to fall into the arms of a Dragon King. But how can she resist Kelton when he’s so willing to share his secrets and bare his soul? He hasn’t met a beautiful, trustworthy woman like Bernadette in…forever. But once they give into their mutual desire, their worlds will never be the same. Soon Bernadette must face her dilemma: Should she expose the truth about Kelton in the name of science? Or join him in his battle with the dark forces–in the name of love?
Praise for the Dark Kings series:

more
Keltan and Bernadette were a cute couple. Keltan struggled with admitting his feelings but after enough scares he admitted them. I liked Bernadette a lot. She was smart and wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself. I quite enjoyed them and I can’t wait to see what it is about Bernadette that the Others want.
Also the battle against Usaeil finally happens! We finally see the battle between Usaeil and Rhi. It was a tough one. Things are very unsettled at the end and I can’t wait to see what choices Rhi will make in the future. We also need to know more about Con and his time with Usaeil because I know there is more going on with him.
I am also very curious about Melisse.

ARC Angel Review:
Donna Grant leaves you feeling like you are in the book with the characters absolutely brilliant.
Fever from the moment you start reading you are not able to put it down! Donna Grant’s amazingly wonderful imagination takes us on Keltan’s journey and into the amazing world of the Dragon Kings.
Keltan does not want a mate and is determined to fight it as it will make him weak. With one beautiful Doctor Bernadette Davies expose in exposing the Dragons can she win him over or break his heart? Twists and turns throughout the book, but the amazing chemistry that evolves between this two amazing characters will leave you on the edge of your seat.
This is book 16 in the Dark Kings series and will take you on a roller coaster ride but it has definitely delivered! With all of our beloved Dragon Kings, intelligent women, light fae (of course our beautiful Rhi), dark fae, the much anticipated battle, fighting, Death plus her Reapers and unanswered questions which will continue in future novels to come. 4.5stars–FEVER is the sixteenth full-length instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. This is citrine Dragon King Kelton Dreagon, and anthropologist Bernadette Davies. FEVER should not be read as a stand alone as the current story lines continue to follow an ongoing series arc.
SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Silver Dragon Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides but someone or something is determined to push the Dragons back into another war: Queen Usaeil of the Light Fae has set her sights on claiming King Constantine as her mate, hoping to rule the world with their combined powers; King Taraeth and Silver Dragon Mikkel have been killed; and the Dark Fae are now under the control of the former Light Fae Balladyn. With the recent introduction of the Fae executioners known as the Reapers, the number of interconnected series continues to expand.
Told from several third person perspectives including Kelton and Bernadette FEVER is an ensemble story line with numerous subplots that advance the series towards its’ final chapter. Dragon King Kelton is sent to keep an eye on human female Bernadette Davies, who is threatening to reveal the existence of dragons to the world but something about Bernadette’s need to expose the almighty beast appears forced and out of her control. As Kelton struggles with his attraction to the human female, our hero will come face to face with his future when Bernadette arrives on Dreagon with news of her own. With King Constantine imprisoned by Queen Usaeil, the Light Fae Rhi, the Dark Fae led by Balladyn, and the Dragon Kings prepare to go to war, a war in which not everyone will survive. The Light Fae Xaneth is missing, and with war on the horizon, his life may be forfeit or lost for all eternity. What ensues is the building but reluctant relationship between Bernadette and Kelton, and a battle wherein lines are drawn, secrets are revealed, and death on the battlefield may be the ultimate sacrifice.
Like many of the previous instalments, FEVER chronicles the history of the Dragon Kings, Fae, Druids and Warriors; recounts the beginnings of Dreagon; and recaps the events that led to the original war between humans and dragonkind. Sides will be chosen when lies pit Dark against Light but not everything or everyone is what or whom they appear to be.
Donna Grant continues to the pull the reader towards the final chapter in her fantastic Dark Kings paranormal series. Some conflict resolution is achieved but many questions remain, hinting at what’s to come, what’s next, and who may be Rhi’s fated King, a fate destroyed by manipulation, jealousy and greed. The action packed premise is revealing and intriguing; the characters are numerous, colorful and energetic; the romance struggles in the face of magic, manipulation and the potential for future control.
This is Book 16 in the Dark Kings series. I felt it was a little slow and drawn out in places, but it was still a very good book. Bernadette is an anthropologist who claims to have proof that the Dragon Kings are real. Kelton is going to prove her wrong. The clash between these two is a slow steady burn that finally catches fire in several places. There’s a lot going on but it’s enough to keep your attention as the mystery of her proof is investigated. Donna Grant keeps finding ways to write new story lines as she’s ending others. I recommend you read it as we get just a little closer (we hope) to the end of the evil Queen who just has to cause problems for everyone. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from NetGalley.
And another one falls. Smoldering, hot, breaking into an inferno. Keltan who would rather observe and stay away from the possibility of a mate has met his match in Bernadette. He has a plan for her, but that plan doesn’t include falling in love. I read this book cover to cover, shushing my children when then said they were hungry, pointing them toward the cheerios (just kidding, not really-ish), laundry going unfolded. Donna Grant has a way of spinning a glorious tale on the pages of her novels that leaves the reader wanting more. It hasn’t diluted through this series.
Fever is the 16th book in Donna Grant’s Dragon King’s series. It is possible to read without reading any others first, but you will get lost in the background stories.
Dragons live among us. Fever is Book 16 in the Dark Kings series by Donna Grant. If you have not read a book in the series, don’t let the fact that it is book 16 is a series intimidate you. Donna Grant is great at bringing the reader up to speed with an info-dump of background and plot information that is not boring and does not feel like an info dump. I have been reading this series from the beginning, so I will say that knowing the series is a help, but it not a necessity if this is your first book in the Dark Kings series. FEVER is the story of Kelton and Bernadette. I loved both characters and how they came together and how their relationship developed.
Donna Grant has a way of continuing the weave the story that runs through the Dark Kings series, which continues to run through FEVER. Ms. Grant has a way of balancing the current story with stories that are in upcoming books and stories that run throughout the series, such as Constantine, Rhi, and Usaeil (nicknamed “Ubitch” by her devoted readers).
In FEVER, some answers are revealed, and new tensions are introduced. Donna Grant is an auto-buy for me, and this book is no exception. I recommend this book if you want to a good, romantic story.
This was a great book. Donna Grants writing always keeps you interested and you never want to put the book down, it is a page Turner, and sad to have the story end. So much happened in this book . Can’t wait for the next book.
Amazing story
Fever is the 16th book in Donna Grant’s exciting and sensual Dark Kings series. Does it stand alone? Well, kinda sorta. This story is a conglomeration of Dark Kings, Reapers, Dark and Light Fae, Druids, Others and humans. I recommend reading the series in order for maximum enjoyment. However, the story centering around this particular couple stands alone. So jump right in and enjoy the romance and exciting storyline. Don’t give yourself a headache trying to figure everything out. Just go back and catch up when you’re finished with this one!
Dr. Bernadette Davies was once a respected anthropologist; however, after meeting the Queen of the Light Fae, she is shown that dragons and otherworldly species do exist. She is now a cryptozoologist lecturing about the existence of dragons. Kelton, a Dragon King, attends a lecture given by her to learn what proof she may have of their existence. The two are instantly attracted to each other, which makes things difficult for Kelton, who always swore that he would never fall in love and mate. He brings her to the stronghold of the Dragon Kings so she can learn all about them, with the understanding that when they are through her mind will be wiped clean of all she saw. Things don’t always go as planned, though…
The romance between Bernadette and Kelton was sweet and playful, but also incredibly sexy. Ms. Grant really knows how to write steamy time! We also catch up a bit with couples from the previous books. We learn what really happened to Con, King of the Dragon Kings. The most exciting part of this book, however, deals with the clash of war that ignites involving the Dragon Kings, the King of the Dark Fae and Queen of the Light Fae and their respective armies, and the enigmatic Rhi. Main characters were killed (I was totally devastated by one of the deaths!), but where are their bodies?! Though this is the 16th book, there are still many more stories to be told, and the series remains fresh and exciting. I can’t wait to visit this world and its inhabitants once again.
I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Epic!! That’s what this book is. Finally something happens that everyone who has been reading this series has been waiting for. Another Dragon Kings finds his mate and like almost everyone one before him, he is hesitant to make her his mate. I can’t wait to see what happens with Henry. All players are involved with this book besides the Warriors. I really miss the Warriors. Bernadette is a very smart lady that gets everyone else thinking of different plots. I of course can’t wait to see what happens next.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley/Author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Fever is book 16 in the Donna Grant’s Dark Kings saga and it reached its fever pitch indeed. It is not easy for an author to still write a story that can still enthrall its readers but Ms Grant managed to do this and more.
In Fever we have Kelton who after seeing his brothers fallen one by one in love and mated, refused to fall and be one of them. To Kelton falling in love will just weakened him and he is for the most part held on to this belief almost throughout the book, this infuriates me so much that I wanted to choke him. Bernadette is a likable heroine and I do find their chemistry electric even when Kelton does most of the pushing away. I really like these 2 together and Bernadette showed great strength throughout the book.
Fans of this series will find great satisfaction in how this book progresses the storyline. A huge thorn in everyone’s side is finally vanquished, tears were shed for the demise of a longtime character, has our beloved Rhi finally crossed over to the darkside and we finally have mating ceremony! The threat to the realm is not over but we’re at least much closer to a resolution … plus we can now countdown to the reveal of Rhi’s Dark King! (it’s Con, isn’t it?)
Eventhough Ms Grant made an effort to give us condensed exposition in every book, I find it is truly best to read this book in order of the Dark World series.
Kelton does not want a mate, and every one knows it. He’s happy everyone else has found someone, but it’s not for him. So he’s an obvious choice to send to a lecture held by Bernadette that’s all about dragons, and she has proof. This is obviously the last thing they need with Con missing, Rhi about to go after him alone and The Others. Not to mention a handful of unwed Mates. It’s a mess and he refuses to let himself feel more for her than some fleeting passion. Not spoilers from me, but you won’t want to miss it! I found it a little slow in the beginning, but it does pick up and then really picks up speed, like warp speed. So many things going on, little drops of that good, good information that we love to gather and ends in an explosive way. I kind of feel title all. Definitely some action, some tears and as always a happy ending with that touch of melancholy that comes with a happy for now before our world implodes ! Love it and can’t wait for the next one!
Keltan believes that having a mate will make him weak. Sure, he likes spending time with Bernadette. He feels protective over her, but it isn’t love. Not that he resents what the other Kings have with their mates, he just doesn’t want that complication in his life. As the plot ebbs and flows around the events that shape this realm, Keltan must search his soul and come to terms with his destiny. And OMG! The ebb and flow that shape the realm finally come to a head. Con has been “missing” from Dreagan and the Kings are concerned for him. Well, we finally get clarity on that front. Rhi wants revenge, and she finally confronts the Ubitch! Balladyn finally steps up and leads his Dark Army in a new direction. A long awaited reunion finally culminates in a mating ceremony. And Henry North, finally has an obsession that doesn’t feature Rhi, which may lead him to his fate as the Justice Bringer. This tale was action packed and exciting. No, we still don’t know who Rhi’s King is, but we do get to experience a transformation in her. I can’t wait for the next book!
Finally yes finally this series moves forward and the person we have all wanted to step up and shine does . Yes I know this book is about Kelton and Bernadette but honestly for this reader it’s as much about Rhi and her Dragon King ( who is glaringly obvious !) because they are the couple I really want to read about. Still in order for all that to happen Kelton has to meet Bernadette so what can I say about that ?
Kelton is the Dragon King who has never wanted a Mate of his own and yes he’s happy for those Kings who have found love but honestly he sees it as a weakness. When he’s sent to find out if a newsworthy anthropologist has any proof that Dragons are real he gets an awful shock because not only is Bernadette stunning but she’s connected the dots about recent events involving the Kings living at Dreagan !
Bernadette doesn’t quite know why but she has a driving passion to research and expose the truth about the Dragons. Meeting Kelton just solidifies everything she’s been told because yes Bernadette has had insider information from someone who is an enemy of the Dragon Kings. Bernadette is drawn to Dreagan and and there she finds not only answers but something more important, she finds that she can trust Kelton . The attraction is mutual but Bernadette is in danger from the very person who has been drip feeding her information .
Fans of this series have been impatiently waiting for the Light Fae Queen to finally show her true colours because we all know Usaeil should really be called Ubitch ! We have been tantalised with snippets of what happened between Rhi and her Dragon King and even steered slightly in the wrong direction with Balladyn . Now with Bernadette playing into the Queens hands it all goes down with an epic battle . I did feel that perhaps too much was rehashed as Kelton brought Bernadette up to speed but that’s a minor niggle . This book sees the end of an era but leaves the reader wondering what will happen next because the events that take place leave the Fae in chaos but surely from chaos a new order will rise !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Okay, so for those of you who have fallen under the spell of the Dragon Kings and have read everything up to now….BE PREPARED!
Your world is about to be rocked and from several different angles. There will be moments to cheer, moments to grind your teeth, moments where you’ll be yelling while throwing your book across the room and moments of such heartbreak you’ll break into the worst ugly cry in history!
Donna does it again. She gives us a couple finding each other amongst a backdrop of all this chaos coming at the Kings from seemingly everywhere. We have new mysterious women. A line or two that might change the fates of a couple of characters. And yet another clue as to The Others and just what the heck they are up to.
I have so much I want to discuss but I won’t spoil it for those of you still waiting to get your hands on it. It’s worth the wait. And yes, I suspect the is Con Rhi’s King debate will once again rage on.
Enjoy your time with Keltan and Bernadette.
An epic battle…a heart wrenching death…the return of a leader
Fever is the 16th in the Dragon Kings series. Bernadette Davies‘ claim that dragons are real and it is related to those at Dreagan, have the Dragon Kings assigning Kelton to watch her to see what she knows. Kelton has long stated he had no interest in love or finding a mate. Little does Kelton know that Ms. Davies’ is about to rock his world. She is a force to be reckoned with. Not only is she intelligent, she is also a strong woman who would do anything to right a wrong.
Foes and enemies will stand together. A dramatic battle that has long been building up will takes place in this book that will not only put you on an adrenaline high, it will break your heart.
Donna Grant has a masterful way of putting words on a page that bring the story to life and have you cheering, screaming, or crying.
As questions are answered, many more questions arise. The ending will leave you impatient for the next in the series.
I was given an ARC of this book by the Arthur in exchange for an hones review.
This was awesome! I loved every bit of it. This was sexy and full of paranormal goodness. I love Donna’s books and I’m so happy I got this one. Definitely can’t wait to read more!
This was a fantastic addition to the Dark Kings world! I love how each novel is both the next in a series and an individual novel, all in one. As usual the world building is top notch, and is so richly detailed that it pulls you in and doesn’t let you go. The ending was quite a bit on the cheesy side but the epilogue more than made up for it setting up huge anticipation for the next novel. Thank you so much for the opportunity to review this gem!
Keltan is the Dragon King of the Citrines. He has no interest in finding his mate. Keltan attends a special meeting for cryptozoologists as a representative of Dreagan. When the guest speaker threatens to expose the Dragon King’s existence, Keltan knows he must take action. However, he never expected to be attracted to the intriguing doctor. The war with the Queen of the Light Fae looms. Can Keltan convince Bernadette not to expose his brethren? Will he finally admit that she is his mate? Or will it be too late?
Dr. Bernadette Davies is an anthropologist. She throws away her career and reputation to convince the world that dragons exist. Bernadette expects someone from Dreagan to intercept her, yet she never imagines she would be drawn to him. When she learns that Usaeil used her, Bernadette soon finds herself drawn into the war between the Light Fae and Dragon Kings. What part will Bernadette play in the upcoming confrontation with Usaeil? Will she survive the encounter?
Keltan steadily grew on me. I like that he is the only Dragon King I can remember with a beard. I am not into men with facial hair, but it is a nice change of pace than the usual clean-shaven appearance. I understand Keltan’s reluctance in finding his mate. He has seen the destruction that humans have caused over the years, especially to his kind. What I adore the most about Keltan is how he balked at the idea of besmirching Bernadette’s reputation. He understands it’s necessary to stop her from exposing them to public scrutiny, but it did not mean the idea sat well with him.
It took me a while to warm up to Bernadette. She came across a little too bland and timid for my tastes. I would have liked her more if she had a fraction of the spunk that Bernadette from The Big Bang Theory television series had. I admire that Bernadette did not expect the Dragon Kings to immediately believe her. She knows that trust is earned, and she did not give the Dragon Kings reason enough to put their faith in her. What I like the most about Bernadette is her sense of right and wrong. After she realized her error, she strives to fix all the wrongs she committed against the Dragon Kings.
FEVER is book sixteen in Donna Grant’s popular paranormal series, DRAGON KINGS. It is necessary to read the prior books to understand everything that is happening in the story’s background. I love the little hint the author gave to why the Druid population is declining. Also, the author divulges a little more information about the enigmatic others.
FEVER is beautiful tale of two wary souls discovering love during a tumultuous time. Things with Usaeil are finally coming to a conclusion. However, that does not mean the threats against the Dragon Kings are resolved. I cannot wait to find out what happens next.
Review courtesy of Romance Junkies
I love this series! this is book 16 and still going strong. This one is about the Dragon King Kelton and his chance at forever love. Bernadette is an anthropologist that has found proof that they are real and not just a dream or story. It is a tale of love and trials as they have to make hard decisions while trying to deal with their relationship. Will she stay and halp him fight evil or will whe tell all. the story line is really good and the characters make you want to follow along with thier lives to see what will happen to them. A really great read. looking forward to the next!.
I’ve been lucky to read a lot of the Dark Kings books and you can read them as a standalone the continuing story is so good. Keltan is a dragon king who is unattached and happy that way but when they send him to spy on a doctor giving a lecture on dragons something about the speaker Bernadette gets to him. Bernadette claims to have proof of dragons and Keltan plans to get close to her so see exactly that but he feels something for her he just isn’t sure what.
Bernadette thinks Keltan is the most beautiful man she has ever met and she can’t believe he is interested in her but when Usaeil who she thought was her friend tells her she put a spell on her she begins to doubt her actions. Usaeil is at war with the dragon kings, in fact she has captured the leader by putting a spell on him. As Bernadette becomes in more and more danger Keltan is not sure that being unattached is what he wants anymore and that’s exactly what Usaeil wants so in battle the dragon kings lose because nothing will defeat them faster than killing their mates.
I love this ongoing story line and the way the books are written you think the story is over but it leaves just a hint of what’s to come.
