I first met Ferron in Nathan and Lenny’s story, in “Mind, Body, and Soul.” Right away, I was curious about him and was hoping to be able to have the opportunity to read his story one day. That being said, I do recommend reading Nathan and Lenny’s story first, but you can get away without doing that if you’re looking at this book to read. Ferron’s story is not a pretty one and may be difficult for some to read, so I would definitely pay attention to the author’s note at the beginning before you dive in. Also, as noted by the author, this does end in a cliffhanger, so you may want to wait until all 3 books are out before reading. Me, I happen to love me a good cliffhanger and this one is marvelous! JP Sayle has a gift. She’s the cliffhanger Queen! By the time I was more than halfway through this book, I wanted to grab Ferron up and slay his demons for him. He’s so sweet and so much more than he realizes. He is quickly becoming another one of my favorite characters by JP Sayle. And Isaac, Gah! Can we say hot Daddy Dom! He’s wonderful, patient, and delicious. I can see why some people have claimed him already (Tina) *grins* I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of this story, and I do highly recommend giving it a try if you like complicated characters as I do.
Disturbing but with hope (an audio review)
This book comes with a trigger warning and I think it’s super important to read it. This book is disturbing and there are scenes that were hard to listen to. This book is extreme, but I know people who’ve been in bad relationships where much of the reactions were the same.
I’ve read the first three books of The Playroom series, so I knew Ferron would survive his captivity, but I think it was good I got the ‘before’ story. I did not, of course, know Ferron’s backstory – his parents, his life, his neediness. What brought him to The Playroom, and what drove him away. I also knew he would recover from the trauma he’s enduring and even go on to form a bond with Lenny. But knowing that didn’t alleviate the worry and pain as he went through such abuse.
The book is entirely from Ferron’s point of view, so I was right there for all of it. I’m looking forward to the next book.
Will put in a plug for Matt Haynes. I always enjoy his narration and he did a good job with this one as well.
I first met Ferron in Mine, Body and Soul and knew that his story was going to break my heart. Loosing the anchor in your life is very difficult especially when you are suffering from survivors guilt and for Ferron loosing his parents left him floundering. So he went looking to find something to help him function in his new world and hopefully finding that right person along the way too. But it was so very difficult finding someone who was just for him which has him doubting himself, causing him to make some very poor choices brought on with the help of unthoughful words and this sets him up for a disaster. But he is finding out it takes a true survivor to be able to get away from a horrible situation and admit that you need help to get to the other side.
