I read Tainted Waters (Paranormal Peacekeepers #1) by Lucretia Stanhope a few months ago and gave it 4.5 Stars (rounded to 5 Stars). When Feral (Paranormal Peacekeepers #2) released, I added it to my ever-growing TBR list. Here is my review!
Synopsis (from the author):
Why are werewolves going missing? When a frustrated alpha requests the aid of the Paranormal Peacekeepers, a new partnership is formed. Alice and Amarok are assigned to get in and get answers before the pack problems bleed into the lives of the townspeople.
Prisoner or ambassador? As a hybrid, Alice is still struggling with what her place is at the Paranormal Peacekeepers when she is assigned her first mission and given her permanent partner. Before she can find out who is responsible for the missing werewolves, she has to commit to the job and ignore the voice in her head telling her use the mission as a chance to escape.
Loyal ambassador and former member of the para-military. Amarok is still broken from the death of his partner when he is assigned to work with new recruit, Alice. While he will vet her, and make sure she is safely returned to the Paranormal Peacekeepers, the bond of partnership means something to him that blurs the lines of following orders.
The mission takes them to emotional places they never imagined and tests the limits of their supernatural abilities. To solve the mystery of where the werewolves have gone they will need to redefine themselves and come together as a team.
What I liked:
I enjoyed the way Alice seemed to be growing into her new role as a paranormal peacekeeper. Her reluctance to open up to Amarok even as her attraction grows made for a nice subplot. Likewise, Amarok’s attraction to her and his own hidden past creates a good internal conflict. Add the missing werewolves, the hostile humans, and suddenly all the pieces combine into a good read!
What I didn’t like:
In spite of all the good points, Alice’s reluctance to reveal herself to Amarok and vice versa got a little repetitive.
Overall impression:
Feral (Paranormal Peacekeepers #1) by Lucretia Stanhope was a good book. You don’t have to read Tainted Waters to understand the story (but why wouldn’t you?), and the story, characters, and action kept me interested. If you like paranormal romance with a hybrid twist, try this one!
My rating:
4.5 stars (rounded to 5 Stars)
A great followup to Tainted Waters. In this novel, you get to see Alice involved with the Paranormal Peacekeepers organization–whether she likes it or not. No dark dwarfs to abuse her this time, but there are plenty of others who dislike and distrust the hybrid witch/elf. You’ll find plenty of gore (it is a dark paranormal after all) as the intensity of the story heats up. Great characterization, an intriguing mystery to solve, a heavenly werewolf to admire… and you have yourself your entertainment for the evening. And finally at the end, a secret admirer and a chance for Alice to hope for something more in her life?
A great addition to the PPK series. When three wolves from the same pack go missing, Alice is assigned to the job as well as a wolf partner named Amarok to go undercover into the pack and find out who’s responsible. The pack accepts but a few members snarl at the idea of human/wolf pairings. As the mystery unfolds, Alice discovers that the wolves that were taken are being experimented with and the sinister culprits behind the wolfnappings have their sights set on Amarok. Both Alice and Amarok will be tested in many ways, but will it change and break them forever? Read this wonderful story and find out. I highly recommend this one!
I hadn’t read the first book in this series going in, and I would say you don’t necessarily need to have read the first one to enjoy this one, although it probably would help if you’re new to this type of paranormal story, as I was. The narrative centers around Alice, a witch/elf, and Amarok, a werewolf, who work for an organization that keeps the peace among supernatural entities. They’re sent on a case to solve a mystery involving missing wolves and secret experiments, and they fall for each other a bit in the process.
The first half of the book gets very detailed into the minutiae of the PPK and the specific traits of the different creatures. It can be a bit much, but may be useful as groundwork if the series continues. Eventually, the bad guys are revealed, and the last third of the book is very action-heavy and violent, definitely worth the wait.
Overall, I’d say this is a good pick for those who like this genre, and I could definitely see following these characters on other missions in the future.
OMG all the feels!
It happened again…I stayed up way past my bed time and didn’t even noticed I was so enthralled in this story. Suddenly its midnight and I’m debating if I really, truly do need sleep anyways.
I picked this up without reading book 1 and the story, though bolstered by the first book, was perfectly fine to read on its own. Lovely play with forbidden romance, suspense, and darkness.
Absolutely loved the characters, the twists, and the deep shadow that surrounds them. The MCs were creatively built up with a backstory that was beautifully woven into the plot and pulled you in so that you grew to know them just as they grew to know and explore not only each other, but themselves. As it progressed and the pieces fell into place the heroes were anything but cliche and their actions were unexpected, clever, and revealing.
Why is happiness so much more meaningful when it’s bittersweet?
There is something for everyone. Wolves, elves, and witches. If you like paranormal fantasy romances you’ll enjoy Alice and Amarok’s story. The two are serious investigators but are still funny at times and grow into a loving couple. There’s also enough action and adventure to keep the story moving nicely. Well done!
An excellent continuation…
I absolutely love wolf shifters. Amarok is a character I could fall in love with over and over. His effortless charm and strength balance well with his vulnerability.
This installment of the Paranormal Peacekeepers delves into more growth for Alice. We are taken on a journey of Alice navigating a path she should not be allowed to travel as a forbidden hybrid. We grow with her as she opens up to Amarok as they work together on a case that hits closer to home than either of them know.
The ending offers a beautiful closure with a hint of something more. I anxiously await the next book.
I read… a lot! I am also an author. To me an exceptional book is only half story and half the writing voice. Stanhope gets a 100% in both categories from me. Her plot, characters and flow are fantastic and her writing quality is amazing.
I read part one and was mesmerized by the writing. Book two has raised my praise!! Amarok is a special guy!!! I love him!
I hate reviews that give another blurb of the book so I wont leave one. However, I will highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a novel that you think about when you are not reading it!
Stanhope is an author I will never forget and she has a true fan in me!
Brilliant work!!
My review.
With her life on hold, and her loyalty tested, Alice becomes one of the Paranormal Peacekeepers.
Finally Alice is allowed to leave the Paranormal Peacekeepers building, her first assignment, she is undercover with her hunky new partner, Amarok who is also her keeper. To investigate why werewolves are going missing. Can the new partnership work or will Amarok fail to protect another partner. Alice will have to decide, escape and go on the run or stay and save her partner.
And intriguing paranormal story full of twists, a page turner to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Great sequel to the first book! While it isn’t necessary to read book 1 in order to enjoy book 2, I’m glad I did…for several reasons. I love Alice’s character! She was likeable in the first book, and the author continues to build a strong character in the second. We’re introduced to the Paranormal Peacekeepers in book 1 and find out a lot more about them in book 2. Amarok is lovable, devoted and witty, but his blind loyalty is going to get him in trouble…I’m calling it now! I’m still not sure how I feel about Maxwell, but I definitely dislike the vampire, Matthias. He’s a devious one. I hope we learn more in the next book!
Even though both possess unknown talents, the unlikely pairing of Alice and Amarok turns out to make a great team. Their witty banter and sexual tension bring a lightness to what could have been a dark story. Even though this story is based in fantasy, the prejudices remain relevant to today’s world.
I really enjoyed seeing how far Alice has come with learning about her powers and capabilities. I look forward to reading more about Alice as she progresses further in her career with the PPK, hopefully finding love and happiness in the process. Although she’s had a rough start, everyone deserves to find their happily-ever-after, even if they possess an unknown quality in a world full of linear thinkers. Embrace the unique, find the good in everyone, and most of all: enjoy the journey. Great read!
