From “the next major voice in Southern fiction” (Elin Hilderbrand) and the bestselling author of the Peachtree Bluff series comes an odd-couple tale of friendship that asks just how much our past choices define our happiness.
It’s summertime on the North Carolina coast and the livin’ is easy.
Unless, that is, you’ve just lost your mother to cancer, your sister to her extremist husband, and your husband to his executive assistant. Meet Gray Howard. Right when Gray could use a serious infusion of good karma in her life, she inadvertently gets a stranger, Diana Harrington, fired from her job at the local pharmacy.
Diana Harrington’s summer isn’t off to the greatest start either: Hours before losing her job, she broke up with her boyfriend and moved out of their shared house with only a worn-out Impala for a bed. Lucky for her, Gray has an empty guest house and a very guilty conscience.
With Gray’s kindness, Diana’s tide begins to turn. But when her first love returns, every secret from her past seems to resurface all at once. And, as Gray begins to blaze a new trail, she discovers, with Diana’s help, that what she envisioned as her perfect life may not be what she wants at all.
In her warmest, wisest novel yet, Kristy Woodson Harvey delivers a discerning portrait of modern womanhood through two vastly different lenses. Feels Like Falling is a beach bag essential for Harvey fans–and for a new generation of readers.

I loved this book so much!! At first I thought it was going to be just a “fluff” summer beach read, but it was so much more! Kristy Woodson Harvey did such a wonderful job with character development that I felt I knew them and how I would LOVE to know Diana!! She has become my favorite woman character of all the books I’ve read so far this year and probably longer!! Her frank personality (no pun intended), her very subtle humor – serious enough when she needed to be, but could easily let things roll off her back. She is tough as nails and just the kind of friend you want supporting you.
I listened to the audio version of this book and thought the narrators, Kelsey Navarro and Amanda Ronconi did and excellent job! This was the first book I’ve read of this author’s but now I will certainly be looking for more!
Two women from totally different worlds collide and become friends and with this friendship comes all their baggage. It’s a story to get lost in and forget the world for a few days. This is my first story by Kristy and not my last. She has a way of writing that draws the reader in and keep you connected to the story so much so that you don’t want it to end!
This is the first book I have read by Kristy Woodson Harvey which is a perfect beach read. Its set in beautiful Carolina Beach where most of the story takes place. I loved the main characters Gray who is a rich independent woman and Diana who was homeless. These two exact opposite women find each other and their friendship grows . Both of them find real love which is endearing. This is the book which will warm and touch one’s heart. Thank you Kristy Woodson Harvey for your Summer Giveaway which I truly enjoyed.
I listened to this on Audio and I am happy I DID , THE NARRATORS WERE AMAZING , IT FELT LIKE SITTING WITH TWO FRIENDS SWAPPING STORIES ABOUT LIFE , DIVORCE , JOBS , FAMILY . I KNEW I WOULD LOVE THIS WHEN I LITERALLY CRIED DURING CHAPTER 2 .DIANE AND PHILLIP JUST TUGS AT YOUR HEART . GREAT READ!
Sometimes you just need one of those books where every one gets the happy ending you wanted for the characters. Sometimes, when the book ends, you just want to sigh and say to yourself, man, that was a good one. As a teenager, I had a weird habit of throwing these books across the room when I finished them. I don’t really know why, but I would finish the book, sigh and throw it. Now, as an adult, the book still gets chucked across the sofa but has a more graceful landing.
While Feels Like Falling packed in that end of the book sigh, it didn’t get chucked across the room because, well, I listened to it on my phone using Audible and even I have more sense than that. But it was absolutely worthy of the infamous swan dive. The characters were your best friends immediately, and you rooted for them, through thick and thin. You even gasped and giggled like you were there, sucking down Mike’s Hard Lemonade around a table, discussing the latest and greatest gossip and life decisions.
It was a delicious read and absolutely perfect for summer. I’m bummed I never get to read this one for the first time again. It’s that good.
Have I mentioned how much I adore Kristy Woodson Harvey yet? Have you had a chance to meet her in person? She is just as sweet and charming as you can imagine and if you’ve had a chance to read her books yet, you can definitely see her personality dripping off the pages. This is why I adore her books and why I jump at the opportunity to read and support her – she is good people, folks and she is truly a talented author. She will make you laugh and she will make you cry and by the time you finish one of her books, you will feel hope and compassion like no one else has made you feel.
One of my favorite aspects of Kristy’s writing is her ability to create characters that you are immediately drawn to. She allows us to see the perfectly imperfect world of her characters, real women that any of us can relate to and I think that’s what makes it so readable. You will fall in love with them right from the start, cheering at their successes, cringing at their missteps, and feeling humbled by their hardships. But what is so remarkable is that while these two women, who are not at all the same, go through their own experiences, they end up realizing just how much they are alike and how much they have come to depend on the other.
I loved the way the friendship developed between Gray and Diana…it wasn’t immediate, but rather slow and cautious. But once it was there, you knew it was true and the kind that would last forever. And it was nice seeing a book that celebrated this friendship rather than a book where we have women constantly attacking each other.
This book is about second chances. It’s about friendship and about love and loyalty. It’s about picking up the pieces when life falls apart and moving forward. Maybe it’s not the way you thought it would be, maybe it is, but as long as you stay true to yourself and are happy it’s all good as we see our characters figure out.
I adored this book. It was the perfect escape reading for right now. While I would have loved to be sitting on the beach reading this, I nevertheless got the sense I was right there along with the characters by the very vivid descriptions that Kristy gives in her writing. I cannot recommend this book enough. This is absolutely southern fiction and summer reading at its best and I certainly will be recommending this to all my fiction-loving friends!
This is a story about two women from very different backgrounds who form a friendship when both of their lives could really use it.
Gray has recently lost her Mom to cancer and is going through a divorce that she never saw coming. She meets Diana who recently got fired from her job and broke up with her boyfriend. Since it would seem that Diana lost her job because of Gray she ends living in Gray’s guesthouse and basically becomes her maid. Team Gray (as I called them!) include her best friend Marcy, her assistant Trey, her son, a new younger love interest and now Diana. Diana grew up in foster care after her mother left her. She is struggling with that and also missing the love of her life that no one else can compare to. Their friendship is so special! It will make you laugh and also make you cry!
I can’t say enough good things about this book! It is my favorite book I have read this year!
I needed this lovely, engaging story to break me out of the reading blues! It’s a perfect feel-good summer read–a tale of two very different women becoming unlikely friends as they meet life’s losses and other challenges. Their relationship and the struggles they faced were relatable, and the characters memorable. You will laugh and get teary, and close the book with a smile. Don’t miss this charming story!
Fantastic Southern fiction and a truly unputdownable read. It was the perfect escape and Kristy Woodsen Harvey is a go to author for me. Amazing characters you’ll want to be friends with, some southern family dysfunction and some HEA. A great combo!
The perfect breezy summer read — full of characters who spring to life from the page as they begin on the brink of anguish and loss, and find their way to new beginnings through unlikely friendship, imperfect love, compassion and good humor — all against the backdrop of an irresistibly charming beach town.
Another great tale of female friendship from Kristy Woodson Harvey. The friendship between Diana and Gray really hit me in the feels as a reflection and reminder of my friendships with women who are not necessarily my age or from the same background. Such relationships are often the most life changing! Life lessons on every page. A great feel good read!
A wonderful novel of two complete strangers and opposites helping each other figure out life. This is a terrific “beach read” but also great for this current quarantine. this book does spirit you away to another place as you watch these two strong women discover themselves. I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
If you love southern fiction and friendship, then this book is for you!! This author brings love into this book in various forms throughout this book and honestly, that’s how we do it in the south! You don’t want to miss out on Diana and Gray this summer – you won’t regret it!
Harvey’s writing just gets better and better. I have read each one of her books, and this one is most certainly my favorite so far. I didn’t want to put it down.
This book is full of great, well-developed, fun characters. The connection and friendships that develop in this book made this book everything that it is. Family isn’t just blood. This book is a strong testament to that.
This book had me smiling, frowning, and almost in tears. I was so back and forth with my emotions. The story is told with so much poignancy, I couldn’t help but to fall in love with everyone in this book.
I’m trying to figure out which aspect of this book I loved the most. I think it would have to be the coming together of so many different worlds to create one great group of friends and family. Each character not only learns a lot about themselves, but they learn what they are truly made of and what’s really important in life…. Love. Love for themselves and love for others, however it may look.
This book is the perfect beach read. Or late night read. Or early morning read… I can’t recommend this one enough, no matter what kind of reader. This book will warm your heart from start to finish.
I didn’t want to put it down! This was a great book about the importance of friendship, especially between women. Gray and Diana are totally different, but the bond they develop helps them both get through difficult times. They each have wisdom from their own life experiences that they offer to each other. I loved the way the story is written through each one’s perspective. Both of them end up in a whole new place that they didn’t expect. Fun read!
Another delightful book from Kristy Woodson Harvey. This book focuses on the friendship of women and how sometimes someone we have just met, becomes someone we truly love.. Kristy always delivers with relatable stories and memorable characters and this book does exactly that.

Feels Like Falling by Kristy Woodson Harvey and a new to me author.
Gray Howard, CEO, recently left her cheating husband and decides to spend some time at her summer home in North Carolina to regroup…loosing her mother to cancer and her sister to marriage. Then she accidentally gets Diane Harrington accidentally fired from her job.
What happens next is a blossoming friendship between them, challenges, building a new life and hoping to find their way forward to whatever life holds.
Song/s the book brought to mind: Sparks Fly by Taylor Swift
I am in love!! Feels Like Falling by Kristy Woodson Harvey was just the feel-good, heartfelt read I needed right now. This was my first time reading a book by this author and I’m kicking myself for not picking up any of her books sooner.
I loved the friendship theme that dominates the novel, and I was a huge fan of both Gray and Diana. Each of them is going through their own problems, but I loved how they came together and ended up as friends and helped each other out. If you want a book that has lots of characters to love, this is the one for you. I also enjoyed the dual point of views between Gray and Diana and how they broke up each chapter. Some of the chapters are on the longer side but it didn’t feel like it since they were broken up between the two women.
Feels Like Falling is a lighter read, but at the same time touches on some deeper themes. I could barely see through my tears near the end of the book (happy not sad, don’t worry!), but I also laughed out loud countless times. The author’s humor and sass that she infused into the novel made it a dream to read and I loved every minute of it. I could definitely see this coming to life as a movie on the Hallmark Channel, and it would also make the perfect summer read. It made me wish I was reading it on a beach by the ocean and I loved the setting of the North Carolina coast.
If you are looking for a heartfelt, southern fiction novel perfect for the summer and/or the beach I highly recommend picking up Feels Like Falling. I loved the characters, romance, and the plot! It was also a really quick read and I didn’t want to put it down. Feels Like Falling will make you believe in second chances, love, and female friendship all over again.
Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with an advance review copy of this book! All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Fabulous!
I absolutely gobbled up this amazing ode to summer and second chances by Kristy Woodson Harvey. The characters were feisty and fabulous, and the young tennis pro hottie wasn’t a hardship to read about either! Grab it for your backyard/staycation and dream of when you can get to the beach again. 5 Fabulous stars.
The quote “life had other plans” was stated in the first 5% of this book and nothing could more true for the tone and progression of this engaging story. “Life had other plans” than what you thought and how do you move on from those life alterations?
When life is turned upside down and inside out for two women who couldn’t be more different, readers get an intimate look at how we can overcome those drastic changes with a little help from unexpected yet strong friends in Feels Like Falling. Kristy Woodson Harvey, a new-to-me author, writes in a very appealing and satisfying way that left me unable to stop turning the pages of this women’s fiction novel.
It had great emotions running throughout including both humor and sadness, curiosity and upheaval. Overcoming one’s preconceived notions of what their life should look like was a thread that wove itself throughout the story and into my heart. It’s a message of rising that really resonated with me. And of course the delightful, heart warming, eye-opening friendship of the protagonists. I related to one of the women much more than the other but the beauty of Woodson Harvey’s story crafting was that despite that fact I empathized with them both which made reading their development that much more secure and entertaining. Their feelings, struggles, and triumphs felt real and honest which is so important to me. The setting also made me want to get to the coast immediately.
Strong female characters who build a friendship based on the curve balls life has thrown at them coupled with great storytelling makes this a good read in women’s fiction.
