Enter the world of the most notorious gambling den in London, where matches are made… unusually. Welcome to the world of THE LYON’S DEN: The Black Widow of Whitehall Connected World, where the underground of Regency London thrives… and loves.
A high-stakes game…but who is playing?
On the day the Princess of Wales goes into exile, Diana loses both her court place and her betrothed. … betrothed. Devastated, she staggers home in the small hours of the morning, alone, drunk—and ruined in the eyes of Society.
In desperation, her mother takes her to the infamous matchmaker, the Black Widow of Whitehall. Abandoned and alone at the scandalous Lyon’s Den gaming house, Diana is disguised as a boy and there encounters her prospective groom, a wealthy Scottish nobleman, Lord Garvie.
She is appalled!
However, Mrs. Dove-Lyon plays a deep game, and nothing is quite as it seems at the Lyon’s Den, where Diana finds unexpected adventure, passion, heartache, and the true love she always dreamed of.

Fed to the Lyon is a charming story of the consequences that occur when a young lady’s reputation is besmirched by no fault of her own. The ton and peerage are not easily forgiving. Diana Wade’s mother takes drastic actions to protect her family’s reputation and her other daughters’ futures from the scandalous fallout. She pays the Black Widow of Whitehall and the disreputable gambling establishment owner of the Lyon’s Den to procure Diana a husband. Diana is given the choice of accepting or refusing the first offer. If she refuses, she gives up her right to choose and must take and marry whomever the Black Widow arranges for.
Diana is anything but timid. She possesses a flair for adventure and finds herself in some interesting situations throwing her in with the enigmatic Scottish Lord Garvie. Sworn not to marry, he finds he cannot resist Diana’s combination of spunk and innocence. Still, there are significant obstacles in the way of their union, for one, Diana herself. Is there a happy ending? You’ll have to travel back to the Regency to find out.
I really love The Lyon’s Den books but the characters in this book left me a little wanting. Lady Diana Wade is a clumsy young lady that seems to find trouble on every hand, her mother is a prude that looks down on everyone, and Lord William Garvis “Bill” is too malleable for a lord. I like the adventures that Di and Bill go on and how they grow closer. I really liked how Bill told Lady Wade off. This is a good quick read for a cold evening but don’t expect to find your typical characters.
A contract for marriage
Diana is in trouble, not of her own making. Arriving home early in the morning drunk, her mother takes matters into her own hands. A contract of marriage with the Black Widow, Mrs. Dove-Lyon. A lady shrewd in negotiations, Mrs. Dove-Lyon already has the groom picked out, but Diana says no to save him from unhappiness. Only Lord Garvie won’t take no for an answer. The game is on. Funny, adventurous and a charming hero that knows what he wants. Very entertaining!
What a very enjoyable story! Fed to the Lyon will keep you enthralled from the moment you begin the journey with Lord Garvis and Lady Diana until the very end! Mary Lancaster has a writing style that I thoroughly enjoy; she’s filled the story with a magnificent cast of characters, a story that is well-written, strong plot and great dialogue bring this read together perfectly. Lady Diana just can’t help finding trouble, she just can’t help leaping before she jumps into the fire. Lord Garvis finds himself there to help Lady Diana with her misadventures and finds himself drawn to Lady Diana. As their emotions start to become more than friendship they start admitting their love for one another in this heart pounding story filled with drama, robbers, secrets, intrigue and twist and turns that makes this one outstanding story!
