Seventeen-year-old Rena Mason counts the days until she can leave for college. Every night her father drinks himself to sleep, leaving her to care for her younger brother. When her father is kidnapped by terrorists, her dreams of freedom become a nightmare. Stunned that her father has a history with these terrorists, Rena knows she must run or be their next victim. She learns the tough guy at … at school has a reason to look after her – he’s working for a government agency with the same goal as the terrorists: find a woman who disappeared eighteen years ago. Time is running out since only this woman’s special gift can save the world from a looming nuclear attack. Rena can’t trust anyone, especially not the stone-cold agent she’s falling for. Can they save the world before Rena’s feelings trap her in an agent’s fight for justice?

Oh, Fear Justice blew my mind and now I am having trouble putting into words just how this book impacted me. This is a story about the discovery of oneself and how beautiful being different is.
This is a YA Urban Fantasy filled with action and adventure. From the first page, I was hooked and knew I was in it for the long haul. I finished this book in a night. The pacing is fantastic. C.C. Bolick knows how to balance her novel with action scenes and tension filled scenes, along with some romance that I normally wouldn’t want in a novel like this, but it works really well.
The characters are well-rounded, deep individuals with back stories and personalities. It’s hard not to fall in love with these characters and I was rooting for them all the way through. I wish I could know these characters in real life. They are inspiring.
Fear Justice is one of those books that you can lose track of reality with. Time stood still as I read this. It just kept getting better and better. I was hooked all the way through and now I’m highly recommending you go buy this book!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book as part of a blog tour with Goddess Fish. All opinions are my own.*

Rena wakes up one morning to find her father didn’t come home the night before. His drinking has spun out of control and Rena calls on the only person she trusts. She’s used to taking care of her younger brother but what happens when she graduates and leaves? She doesn’t have time to play what if, though, as she has real life issues to contend with. Her father has been abducted by terrorists and the new boy from her school is not who he appears to be. Now, she’s on the run and everything she’s ever know disappears in a puff of smoke. Who can she trust? Certainly not the agent of some secret government agency, talking about super powers, aliens and saving the world from a madman. She must be crazy because the more she’s around secret agent guy, the stronger her feelings for him grow. Can she navigate through all the lies to reach the truth? Better still, will she ever see her father and brother again?
Fear Justice is a thrilling urban fantasy filled with such emotion, I was hooked from the very first page. Like the series Roswell and the movie franchise X-Men, this is a story about discovering who you really are and how being different is a good thing. There are quite a few action scenes but they are balanced by tension-filled scenes between Rena and the agent sent to bring her in. There’re also sweet romance elements which adds a well-roundedness to the plot.
Why is this a must-read? I couldn’t stop reading it, not even when I was supposed to be asleep. I kept telling myself, only one more page and fifteen minutes later, I was still engrossed in the plot. The characters are so captivating, I wanted to hop right into the book and be right in the thick of it. The ending was satisfactory because it wasn’t a cliffhanger. I know the story continues in the next book yet some of the main conflicts were resolved.
If you’re looking for a book to lose yourself in, pick up Fear Justice. A strong heroine, lots of action and drama, plus a little romance thrown in. . . you couldn’t ask for anything more. Highly recommend!
Favorite Character/Quote: Rena. From the very beginning, I liked her. She’s got such a strong personality and every time she is confronted with an obstacle, she figures out how to work around it. Her disbelief by the “agency” and the truth her parents kept hidden is accurately portrayed and it made me love her more. I can’t wait to see what she does next.
My Rating: 5+ stars
I recieved a copy through voracious readers in exchange for an honest review.
If you like sci-fi you will love this book. It’s a mix between X-Men and men in black.
It is filled with action, suspense and a little bit if mystery. It kept me hooked and intrigued.
I would read more from this author
This is what might be called a young/adult thriller type of genre. I am not a young adult. Sometimes I’m not even an old adult (just a grown-up kid) but I really enjoyed this book. It sort of grabs you at the beginning…a young girl, pretty well raising her younger brother alone because their dad can’t seem to get past the death of their mother. And yet, this particular story is not that story. Rena, or Regina, seems to be a strong young girl who is fearless and the writing to paint a picture of her is the kind of writing that gives you the feeling you can handle anything too. Almost a personal sort of uplifting feeling in the midst of chaos and fright.
The characters, especially Rena and her friend Tony are crafted well with intense personalities and are two people who have had their share of problems. The story keeps you right on the edge, wondering what will happen. It was a good read, a quick read and also well worth the time. As I said before, I enjoyed it as an adult, but it is also clean enough it to be read by young adults. Rather refreshing actually.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It grabbed me from the beginning and was unputdownable till the end. I would never have believed that using multiple genres in one story would work so well until reading this book. It’s a mixture of Sci Fi, Romance, Paranormal, Adventure, Thriller, and Mystery that works like a charm and makes the story so incredibly fun to read. I give this book 5 stars.
