Series: Borderland Rebels #1
Publication Date: 6/23/20
Number of Pages: 250
Did you, like most of us, read the Borderland Ladies series and fall madly in love with Drake Fletcher? Did you despair when he didn’t get his own HEA? Well – despair no more! This series, Borderland Rebels features Drake and his sisters, Faye, Kinsey, and Clara. Also, if you are interested in seeing how the feud between the Sutherland and Ross clans began (and it is a doozie), you should read The Highlander’s Lady Knight. As always, the writing is outstanding, the plot is spot-on and the character development is just perfect. In this book, we got to meet all of the sisters and got a good feel for them and their personalities. Now, we can eagerly await their books!
Faye Fletcher has known a lot of adversity in her life and from those, she knows two things – one is that she is beautiful and just a little flirting will help her get the little extras for her family and the other is that love and marriage are to be avoided because they bring pain. She’ll never love or trust anyone other than her immediate family again.
As she is in their village, slightly flirting with a merchant to get a better price on a beautiful piece of wool, Faye becomes aware of someone watching her. He really spooks her and she decides to leave – but he follows her – and accosts her – only to tell her that he is her grandfather and he wishes to discuss her betrothal. Their family has assiduously avoided that man for their entire lives and she certainly doesn’t want anything to do with him now!
Ewan Sutherland, chieftain of the Sutherland clan, is a widower. He doesn’t want another wife but knows he must marry and produce an heir. So, he’s in negotiations with the Gordon clan to marry the chief’s daughter, Blair. The agreements are done and only his signature is required to complete the deal. Still, he is hesitant – and when the chief of the Ross clan approaches him about honoring a betrothal agreement made when Ewan was still a child, he decides to at least meet the girl again. He fondly remembers the young girl from childhood and wonders what sort of woman she has become. Well, he’s about to find out!
Ewan is shocked and appalled when he meets his potential bride and finds out how she came to be there. When refusal isn’t an option for either of them, they marry and the adventures really begin.
This story is fast-paced, exciting, and filled with steamy love scenes, betrayals, murders, twists, turns, and more than one villain. I can’t wait to see where the series heads from here because Ewan is a remarkable hero and it will be interesting to see how Kinsey’s and Cara’s heroes measure up.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Faye’s Sacrifice is a wonderful beginning to a new series and everything I expected it to be, and then some. It is rich with a dashing hero and a heroine you can’t help but admire. There are some exciting twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat, from romance to betrayal and so much more in between. This is an offshoot of the Borderland Ladies series, however you can easily begin here without having read the other series and not feel lost in the least. Though I highly recommend the Borderland Ladies series on its own merit and if you read it you will get some background about Drake, Faye’s brother in this story. This first installment definitely kept me hooked from the first page to the end and I anxiously look forward to the next book. Once again I must thank Ms Martin for giving me the opportunity to read one of her exquisite stories.
Faye’s Sacrifice is the first book in the fabulous new Borderland Rebels. If you liked the Borderland Ladies series as I did, you will love this series. The Borderland world Madeline Martin has built-in these series is brilliant and full of remarkable characters. They are full of action, suspense, and danger. I love how the side characters make brief appearances in the books and leave us wondering what their fate will be.
Faye Fletcher had experienced betrayal all her life and was perfectly content living with her family and keeping everyone else at a distance. When her estranged grandfather kidnaps her and takes her to the Highlands to marry, she is forced to marry in order to save her sisters. She tries to keep her new husband at a distance, but it was impossible when she starts to see how honorable he is.
Ewan Sutherland, Chieftain of the Sutherland clan, needs to marry and have an heir before his uncle tries to claim the clan. He remembers Faye from childhood visits and becomes interested in her when he learns she is back in the Highlands. When he learns of how Faye had been kidnaped and was being forced to wed him, he tries to assist her. Can they have a wonderful future when family is betraying them with conspiracies?
This is a wonderful story and an awesome book to start the series off with. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I received an ARC but am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
If you loved Madeline Martin’s Borderland Ladies series and were sad to see it end – You can now rejoice because she has started a new spinoff series featuring Drake Fletcher and his sisters!!!
After the death of her English father, Faye Fletcher learned several hard truths, foremost is that love is not forever and can’t be trusted. She carefully guards her heart and other than her family, she refuses to love anyone. Thanks to her brother Drake, Faye along with her mother and two sisters; Clara and Kinsey now have a good life and a nice home. Life is comfortable but she wants to contribute and as a beautiful woman, she also learned that she can use her “wiles” to benefit her family, she flirts and charms the local merchants into giving her deals. But her comfortable life is shattered when her Scottish grandfather demands that she marry Ewan Sutherland, she refuses and he kidnaps her!
Ewan Sutherland is the chieftain of the Sutherland clan. A widower, he needs an heir and is negotiating a betrothal with Blair of the Gordan clan when the Ross chieftain approaches him and wants him to honor an agreement, he made years ago with Ewan’s father, an agreement that would see Ewan wed to Ross’ granddaughter. He vaguely remembers Faye and recalls being fond of her. He agrees to meet and is shocked when he learns that Faye has run away. He finds her and promises that he will not force her to marry him and will even help return her to her family. But when Ross finds them, he tells Faye she is free to go but threatens to take her kind and gentle sister Clara. Faye will not let that happen and agrees to marry Ewan as long as the Ross promises to leave her sisters alone.
Ewan learns from his cousin Moiré that his first wife, Lara, killed herself because Ewan didn’t love her and he vows to not repeat that mistake! Faye marries Ewan and learns that she enjoys the physical side of marriage – but Ewan wants more, he wants her heart. Faye likes Ewan, but she can’t let herself love him and falls back on her “wiles” to keep her heart safe. But Ewan is hard to resist and she finds herself falling for him. But before they get their HEA they will have to confront not only their own past hurts, but will have survive a shocking betrayal!
This was a well-written, fast paced story with wonderful characters, steamy love scenes, betrayal, misunderstandings, murder, multiple villains, surprising twists and turns and finally a well deserved HEA complete with an epilogue. I thought this was a great start to the series and while Ewan is no James (Anice’s Bargain) Ms. Martin set the bar high because he is an amazing hero and I can’t wait to see where this series goes from here!!
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me.*
Another phenomenal series by Madeline Martin! Faye’s Sacrifice is book one in the Borderland Ladies series! It is Faye Fletcher and Ewan Sutherlands story. This book held me captivated from the first page to the last.Ewan Sutherland needs an heir sine his evil uncle is trying to lay claim to Chieftan of the clan. Since they were children, Ewan and Faye have been betrothed. Faye is kidnapped by her grandfather to have her marry the Sutherland. Ewan receives a missive from Ross to meet with him regarding the betrothal. Ewans clan is starving and the dowry will provide land and coin which is needed for food. And it will provide peace between the clans. When Ewan gets to meet with the Ross and his granddaughter, he finds out she has run away. Ewan finds her and…no spoilers! I highly recommend this book and any by Madeline Martin! This book is full of suspense, action, strong, handsome Alpha hero, a wonderful heroine and a trusting love. Read this and you won’t regret it. I eagerly wait for the next one. Thank you Madeline Martin for another awesome read! Five . This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing. My opinions are my own.
Faye’s Sacrifice (Borderland Rebels Book 1) by Madeline Martin 5 stars
“The Grand Duchess of The Dark Ages” has another hot series you’ll definitely want to singe your fingers on reading. Ms. Martin is one of my favorite authors because she knows what good medieval romance stories are made of, and she doesn’t disappoint! I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced storyline with its multiple creative plots, twisting and turning with mystery, deception, angst, danger, and intrigue you won’t see coming. And, I was rooted by the very witty and charismatic characters with their beautiful awakening of the heart that flames into a steamy passionate love story. I recommend this book, it’s series, and all of Ms. Martin’s books to everyone.
Happy Reading
Adult Content: including some steamy explicit open bedroom scenes.
The story starts slow with action exploding with the kidnapping of the Heroine by her Grandfather to fulfill a betrothal made when both the Hero and the Heroine were bairns. Faye doesn’t want to get married anymore than Ewan wants to get married again. Faye relented for the marriage after her Grandfather started voicing other ways and means for him to get the land he has always coveted. An unknown and detrimental factor is involved right from the start but she didn’t show her hand til the end. Ewan always thought the outside danger was from his Uncle but as an unexpected development he discovered it was his cousin who was “stirring the the pot” of discontent. It turns out the troubles he had with his first wife/marriage were instigated by Moire who had plans of her own regarding the Clan.
I won’t say anymore — will let you read to find out. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend reading it for enjoyment.
I give this Book 4 Stars

Amazing story! I just love Madeline Martin’s medieval tales and this one is no different! Well written and beautifully executed, she weaves a spellbinding tale of a girl who’s chosen to close her heart lest it be broken and a man in need of an heir in order to hold onto his claim as Chieftain of his clan. This is the first book in the new series, Borderland Rebels.
I was immediately captivated as a story began and found myself transported back in time to the borderlands. This is an action packed adventure full of intrigue, betrayals, passion and heart pounding romance that hits the ground running and doesn’t stop until the end. Perfectly paced, it keeps the the momentum up throughout.
Madeline creates wonderful characters guaranteed to touch your heart. Ewan is a swoon worthy, honorable man who had his share of troubles and he couldn’t be more loving yet strong. Faye is a loyal, family oriented young woman of strength who’s also had her share of heartache in her life. Finding it difficult to trust one love they just may have to in order to save both their lives. I love how Faye tries to resist falling in love with Ewan but her heart refuses to comply! The passion they share is engulfing and consuming.
A truly remarkable historical novel, so finely rendered in period detail that the reader becomes one with the plot and characters. The dialogue is witty and engaging. Madeline imagery and descriptions are so real your senses come alive.
I fell in love with Ewan and this lovely irresistible story! Thank you so much Madeline for such a fantastic story! I look forward to the rest of the series!
The author granted me a copy of this book, and this is my unbiased and true opinion!
Madeline Martin can weave any tale she wants together! The reader will fall in love with the characters immediately and they will break your heart, and mend it back together before the book ends. While Faye, her sisters, her mom, and her swoon worthy brother, Drake, can all fight and have tremendous amounts of courage, they have had a rough few years. Because of these rough years, Faye has decided to keep her heart out of everything except anything to do with her family. When she is kidnapped by her nefarious grandda, her path is met with that of the honorable chief, Ewan Sutherland. I am just going to have to tell you dear reader, that is a book boyfriend if I have ever seen one. He is perfect, kind, and loving. Things happen to thaw Faye’s heart even though she is very feisty! If you like a good Scottish romance mixed with some strong, courageous women, a few betrayals, and a kick butt love story, this book is for you!
It was a quick, fun read. I may have shed a few tears…
Faye Fletcher has been hurt enough in her life and she has no plans to marry. Her grandfather drags her kicking and screaming to the Highlands, she’s forced to wed in order to save her sisters. She’s been betrothed to Ewan Sutherland, Chieftain of the Sutherland clan since they were children or were they? Ewan is trying to make the best alliance for his Clan, but he will not marry an unwilling young woman. Choices are made and alliances are formed. People are working against them. I love this story it’s filled with mystery and intrigue as two wounded souls meet and begin to heal as danger lurks in the shadows. An excellent story I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.
This is the first book in this series. Faye Fletcher is doing the best to help her 3 siblings and her mom survive after the death of her father.
Faye is kidnapped by her grandfather in order for her to marry chieftain Ewan Sutherland.
They knew each other as children.
Faye agrees to marry Ewan after her grandfather threatens Faye’s younger sister.
Will Faye and Ewan learn to love one another.
Who knew sacrifice could be so sweet. I loved how an arranged marriage turns into so much more. There is also some strange things going on, and someone is pulling strings to make enemies and try to cause division. It is someone you would least expect. Loved how the marriage progressed between the characters.
Suspense, Secrets and Deception! Faye’s Sacrifice will keep you spellbound from the moment you begin the journey with Ewan and Fayey until the very end! The plot brims with tension-building twist, characters are well thought out and each one comes across clearly as their individual personalities become more than just part of the tale and with setting descriptions and action sequences are wonderfully vivid which brings this read together perfectly. Madeline Martand spins a heartfelt, heart stopping love story that unfolds beautifully with drama, sensual passion, uncertainties, with a villian who spins a web of mayhem, trials and tribulations, and while the suspense builds and tensions escalate with twist and turns abound that will bring the secrets to light makes this one outstanding story! I can’t wait to read Kinsey’s story in Kinsey’s Defiance.
I absolutely adored Faye’s Sacrifice by Madeline Martin. It has everything you need in a great story. There is intrigue, kidnapping, confessions of murder, attempted murder, poisoning, family loyalty, and a HEA. It was amazing. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the stories in the series. I received this book as a gift.
Faye’s Sacrifice by Madeline Martin is the First book in the Borderland Rebels Series. This is the story of Faye Fletcher and Ewan Sutherland, Chieftain of the Sutherland. Ewan is a widower who has to marry again to produce an heir to help secure his title and clansmen. Although Ewan doesn’t wish to do so he goes forward to find secure a bride. Ewan is reminded of a old promise of marriage that was made by his father which Ross thinks he needs to honor. Faye doesn’t wish to marry because she doesn’t trust that or love from what she has learned. They only people she loves and trust are her mother and siblings. When she is forced into a marriage by her grandfather to Ewan she works to keep her heart guarded but the more they are together the more neither can fight what they are feelings. I so loved this book and this author writing….I would recommend both.
Faye’s Sacrifice, by Madeline Martin is outstanding! As usual, Madeline has done it again. Giving her readers a smashing good story. This book was so good, that I couldn’t put it down. Madeleine’s writing has a way of pulling the readers into the storyline.
She traps them with the high impacting drama of her leading characters. The book reads with a fast pace, but the reader doesn’t lose the emotion of the story. Madeline’s ability to describe the surroundings from the lavish green hills to what the characters are wearing. Even to what they eating. These important things Shows how Madeline wants her readers to experience what the characters are going through at that time.
Her details has the readers imagination getting carried away to the Scottish lands of the Highland mountains. There is never a dull moment in the book of Fay’s Sacrifice. Take for instance Ewan and Faye. Their expected and sudden marriage was something almost of a shotgun wedding, with Fay’s Grand da, holding the shotgun. In this case, his sword.
The newly married couple’s world intertwines with so much chaos and tragic loss, you had to wonder if they could comeback to some normalcy in their lives. From family drama, crazy or psychotic, back stabbing siblings (take your pick). To grand da’s kidnapping their granddaughters, shackling and throwing them into a closed pine box. The intensity of the drama and action moves swiftly, captivating the reader. Somewhere in the mist of all this, Ewan and Fay have found their way to one another.
Ewan and his masculinity as a powerful highland chief falls under the pleasurable spell of Faye. He vows to always protect her and show her the love that she deserves. Fay, who starts out as a sweet demure young maiden cant help but lust after Ewan. She seeks all the desires and pleasures that only her new husband can give her. Their wild passion, ignites euphoric, climactic affairs that has the reader over heating and asking for the writer to give them more love scenes.
Yes, my fellow readers. I recommend this book with two snaps and a twist, Thank you Madeline Martin for giving your readers the romance that the look for in your books. Until next time my fellow readers… read on! I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.
Great story and well written. I love historical romances. What you do for love and alliances.

A new series but still in the same time & world as the Borderland Ladies. The series follows Drake & his sisters. Faye is the eldest sister & when kidnapped by her grandfather agrees to marry Ewan Sutherland to save her sisters from suffering a similar fate. I loved the attraction between Ewan & Faye which sizzled, however over time it changed from raw passion & lust to caring & loving. The story flowed effortlessly, I was drawn in from the start but it was the climax which left me totally breathless & I really felt part of the action & don’t think I breathed for quite a few pages. A very well written page turning read that drew me in from the start & I had real difficulty putting it down. I loved everything about it
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
What a way to start a series. Faye’s Sacrifice by Madeline Martin is book one in the new Borderland Rebels series and I cannot wait until book two come out. This is one of those books that is action pack from page 1 to the end… I couldn’t put it down. You don’t know who is the evil one is until the end and I just love that in a book. Madeline is such an amazing writer and her stories are so original and medieval. Truly Brilliant!!! This story has an abduction, a cruel grandfather, brutality, fighting for a piece of land, marriage contract that made not be official, a forced marriage, missing one’s family, kindness, protection, a big scheme, murder, lies, trust issues, a sad past, understanding, sympathy, suicide and so much more. I can’t say enough about this book. I highly recommend this story… trust me you won’t be disappointed.

My review :
Will her past scars doom her future happiness …
I haven’t read the previous series by Mrs Madeline Martin but I loved her other works set in medieval time.
She has a knack to bring to life strong willed misses and very caring misters.
And here, she does not derogate from it.
She introduces a whole new set of characters, all siblings with very different tempers.
I needed just a bit more time to like wholly her heroine.
Faye is strong and determined but I didn’t like she used her past hurt as an shield to avoid giving her feelings free reign, it is the coward way to me, she hides behind past pain to not live plainly.
Life is a matter of gain and loss, there is no equilibrium but it is what makes us who we are.
By denying herself and her heart to experience new attachment and feelings she lives half a life and might cause herself pain to others.
Still her feistiness and her ease with her own needs were quite unique why I was unsettled by her determination to never care for someone outside her family when she was the receptacle of so much passion.
Ewan, he is even so kind he is too good to be true, what a great chief he is, always passing his own demands after those under his care. Pondering his every actions in case they may bring harm even if unwillingly.
I just adored him, he is so full of comprehension and attention, instead of asking, he offers and listens. A man with a great capacity of love and disposed to do everything as far as he is able to help his new wife to feel secure and be happy.
Once again Mrs Martin narrates a wonderful tale of healing and coming of age where trust is freely given and hearts are healed.
4.5 stars
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
