Never ask a favor of a fae.As a rule, the fae don’t do favors. It’s not how they’re wired. Capricious and self-serving, unless you have an unbreakable bond with one of the fantastical creatures, you can be sure that they have no interest in helping you at all.But if one of the fae is in your debt… well that changes things, doesn’t it?Callie Brooks learns that the hard way when the Fae Queen sends … Brooks learns that the hard way when the Fae Queen sends soldiers after her family. Her mate is a Light Fae, and he’d been one of the Fae Queen’s favored guards until he left Faerie behind to be with Callie. And while their union was frowned upon, they were left alone–and then their daughter was born.
A daughter who can walk through shadows.
Callie and Ash won’t let anyone get their hands on their baby. When it becomes obvious that the two of them alone won’t be enough to protect her, Ash sends his mate and child on a dangerous mission.
Because sometimes it takes a Dark Fae to get the job done. And, thank Oberon, Ash’s old acquaintance owes him a debt.
It’s time to call it in.
*Favor is a prequel short (~10k words) that is set nearly twenty years before the first book in the Touched by the Fae series, Asylum. It is the story about how Nine got involved in Riley’s life in the first place, as well as the reason behind the Fae Queen’s fixation on capturing her.

“Favor” is the prequel to the “Touched by the Fae” Trilogy by Jessica Lynch, a dark urban fantasy centered in the character of Riley, a half human/fae young woman that was committed to the Asylum at the age of fifteen. “Favor” is set twenty years previous to the events related in the main series, and related the story of Riley’s parents, and how her actions brought Nine/Ash into the picture and start the journey that would eventually lead to Nine crossing Riley’s path.
Callie Brooks met her mate at the royal court, where he was the Queen’s bodyguard. He is a Light Fae that left Faerie behind to be with Callie, something the Queen isn’t willing to forget. Now they have the Queen’s guards hunting them, intending to punish them and their daughter. Their only hope is Ash, a dangerous Dark Fae who owes them a debt.
The book is well written, a good mixture of action-packed scenes and very well-done descriptions and character centered scenes, with unexpected turns and twists, with equals parts of suspense, intrigue, introspection, and raw emotion.

A haunting prequel to Asylum by Jessica Lynch. Dark, mysterious and tragic. It definitely piqued my interest to continue reading in this series.

This was my first taste of this authors work and I have to say I was very pleased. She set the stage for her story in a detailed fashion without boring the reader. This prequel was well written and I’m sure it will enhance the reader’s enjoyment of the rest of the series. I am looking forward to the rest of the series to see what trials and tribulation are in store for the poor little half-blooded fae. I wonder if her fae guardian is going to do a good job of protecting her and honoring the expectations her parents would have demanded for their little girl. Get your copy of this book and then start reading what I’m sure is going to be an epic tale will manner of wonderful creatures.
Wow this is definitely a fantastic read. This read grabs you right from the beginning and has you on the edge of your seat. With heart pounding action. There is twists and turns everywhere. This is also a real page turner. This is definitely an epic read, that I recommend. Shauna Joesten

After the Fae Queen sends soldiers to kill her family. Callie Brooks needs to call in a favor made to her husband, Ash, to protect their daughter. A child who can walk through shadows and is mentioned in a prophesy.
At 52 pages, Favor was a quick read. Jessica Lynch did a nice job laying out the background for the Touched by the Fae series. It was skillfully written and packed with details. It made me want to continue the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Captivating Prequel to the Touched by the Fae Series!
Exciting and intense backstory of how a Dark Fae becomes the protector of the half-ling daughter of Aislinn (Light Fae) and Callie Brooks, his human mate. Wonderful characters and suspenseful drama with a twist ending. I can’t wait to read Asylum and the rest of the series. Enjoy!
