“I want a divorce.”No woman wants to say those words. No woman who is still in love with her husband anyway. Our marriage has been tested, repeatedly. It’s been dragged through tabloids and rumors and fans that just won’t let us be.Through it all, we’ve remained unbreakable. We didn’t have the perfect marriage because perfection doesn’t exist. But we had love. We had trust. We had chemistry that to … had trust. We had chemistry that to this day sets everything inside me on fire.
Then one life-threatening statement creates a chain of lies that leaves me no choice but to say those horrible words.
I never thought I’d say them.
I never thought my husband would ignore me when I did.
I never thought the man I love would sever the vows we took.
I never thought I’d pack my bags and move from our home in L.A. to our getaway cottage in Hermosa Beach.
Then again, I never thought he’d choose the fate of his life over his fate with me.

The fight for the fated love of his life was so intense!!!
Set in the world of Cocky Bastard Chance Bateman and his wife Aubrey, this is the story of their friends Mason and Eden Whitaker who are fighting to keep their love and marriage intact. Author Kathy Coopmans has a way of writing that wrings every ounce of emotion out of her characters, and her readers.
It doesn’t matter how much love there can be between two people, betrayal doesn’t always come in the form of a sexual affair. And this is exactly where Fateful Fighter starts. What Mason believes to be a misunderstanding is taken as an action of gross mistrust by Eden.
And from there, the hits just kept coming, every single one is cruelly aimed to cause maximum damage. My poor beaten heart was as munted as surely as Eden’s was. I was crushed, and I validated every one of her written feelings, because I believe I would have felt the same. I was in total sympathy for her.
Written in my favourite dual POV, it is the talent of Ms Coopmans’ writing that ensured I also understood and empathised with the thought processes within Mason’s head. I certainly didn’t condone his actions, but oh holy hell, I understood the frustrations that the limitations his body had placed upon his ultimate life’s goal. When your body’s health steals your future while in the prime of your life, how can anyone understand? I certainly got a glimpse through Mason’s heart-rending words.
What shone in it’s devastating glory was the love that Mason and Eden still held for each other. Even through the abject ‘heartbreak’ and the cruel words that were volleyed back and forth, the hot and heavy chemistry was there through it all. It was hard to read and feel the downward spiral as Mason struggled to come to terms with everything that he was losing in his life, yet felt unable to stop that vortex from dragging him down. If his friends couldn’t help, who could?
I loved the story that Kathy Coopmans put together in this world of the Cocky Heroes club. Chance and Aubrey have retained the spirit that I already know and love, and of course there is no show without the kids or Pixie the goat! This was an awesome read and one that I highly recommend. 4.5 Stars

Another great addition to the Cocky Hero novel series. This book was an emotional roller coaster with all the feels . Mason & Eden are Chance and Aubery’s friends and this is their story. These two knew each other since they were childhood and are married to each other . This story goes through Mason loosing his dream and being in denial & how one after another things start create a rift and break this loving relationship & breaks trust between Mason & Eden . It’s an emotional journey these two take from almost destroying their relationship and being on the verge of divorce to their HEA. A beautiful story.
Eden and Mason have known each other since they were kids, they both knew early on they were in love and would be together for ever. Mason has been struggling with the fact he can no longer fight in the ring, he also is struggling with the fact he has kept this from his wife and when an opportunity arises to get in the ring again he struggles with telling her this too.
Their motto has always been no secrets no lies and when Eden finds out she feels betrayed that he kept this from her and that he went to his agent before her. Eden has been by her husband’s side through everything she was there every time he was hurt and knows what another fight could mean for Masons future.
She loves her husband fiercely but cannot witness this fight. She loves her husband fiercely and goes to extreme measures by threatening a divorce to make him realize he is in denial about his career. Will Mason take the ultimate fight and fight for his marriage?
This book had me from the very beginning.

This is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more. Mason and Eden both grew up in the foster care system. In order to get out of that life, Mason became a fighter. However, like many athletes in that profession, he suffered concussions. At number five, Mason was given the option to either stop fighting or run the risk of having a brain injury or dying. As the two have been married for over fifteen years, it comes as a shock when Eden discovers that her husband has been keeping a secret which prompts her to leave. Will Mason be able to get back the love of his life? This is one storyline filled with denial, grief and is one heck of an emotional rollercoaster with the message that you should never take the one you love for granted. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.
I do not read many contemporary lately because they all seem the same or only have a couple of themes. This author though can get me to read one because I know it will not be the same will be unique. I have not read one featuring a fighter lately so this was good too. Having a life that is under a microscope so to speak makes for interesting part in this story on how they cope along with other elements. They are good together. Eden and Mason have it deep but then something gets twisted the wrong way and this author has you twisted also. We are right there feeling everything they do which is the biggest reason to read this author she has that magic. We get it all and come back up for more. Superb way to get away and feel for awhile in another place with these two.
5 HEART WRENCHING STARS!! Wow, my heart was exposed in Eden and Mason’s story. I felt all the emotions these two went through. Kathy knows how to rip us part and put us back together again. You should definitely read this book.
Fateful Fighter by Kathy Coopmans is gritty, raw, passionate, emotional, The flow of this book and the utter raw emotion was so well written. I was completely captived by this story.
I could feel every bit of sadness, heartache, and pain that Eden and Mason went through. My heart broke for Eden and I understood her reasons completely. Mason I know loves his wife, but he kinda went about things the wrong way.
Fateful Fighter was intense, gritty, emotional, raw, it was heartbreaking and yet I wanted more. I couldn’t get enough of this story!! A beautifully written 5 star read!
5 Fighting Filled Stars!!!!
Wow Kathy!!! I’ve read every book she’s written and everyone is on my favorite read list but this has to be hands down her best book yet.
Once I started this I became addicted to Mason and Eden’s story.
For the past two years Mason’s just been going thru his daily routine by barely holding it together. Mason’s life has always consisted of the two loves of his life. Eden and boxing.
Two years ago Mason was told to put the gloves away. One more punch could give him permanent damage or kill him.
Since then he’s opened a gym. He trains an upcoming boxer and helps the underprivileged youth like him and Eden were.
Mason has everybody fooled into thinking he’s perfectly OK. When in reality he’s far from it. Mason just wants one more fight. He knows his body has one more fight. Mason wants to walk away on his terms. But, instead of talking things over with Eden he goes outside to somebody else and before he can say anything to his wife it leaked to the press. Mason knew Eden would be mad. But, didn’t realize his last fight would get completely personal.
Eden has been in love with Mason ever since they met in foster care. It’s always been the two of them. She’s always been in his corner both inside and outside the ring.
Ever since Mason stopped fighting she’s asked him if he was OK and he always said yes.
When Eden finds out Mason wants to fight again. Even just one fight she feels the rug get pulled out from underneath her. Eden refuses to loose her husband bc he gets hit in the head.
When Mason refuses to believe he’s in denial about not being able to fight Eden does the only thing she feels she can do. Leave him.
Leaving Mason isn’t anything Eden wants to do. But, Eden refuses to let Mason go thru this without fighting for him. No matter what the cost is.
There was a bunch of times I wanted to shake Eden bc it was 10000% obvious how much Mason loved her and I hated that she was doing this to them. Then, I’d remember it was him who wanted to do something that could cause him severe damage or kill himself and then I’d agree with her lol.
Mason gutted me. Ever since a car accident almost 14yrs my body hasn’t been the same. So I get it when your body wants to do one thing and your mind is telling you another and your heart is feeling another way.
Mason has to hit rockbottom in order to see everything in front of him clearly. But, watching a strong hard headed man get there slowly is painful to watch. ESP when you can understand how he feels and why.
He definitely handled the situation wrong. But the love he has for Eden was always there and I never questioned it. This was Kathy’s best work so far. I’m excited for her next release!!
This was great story full of emotion. My heart was breaking for Mason and Eden for most of the story, but I also smiled and thought about them endlessly as I was reading. They just have a love that will stick with you. Like every couple, they have hardships in their relationship, broken promises and lies. How you choose to deal with or react to these situations can make or break your relationship. Forgiveness is key. Do Mason and Eden have what it takes to make it through their hardships or will the secrets and lies destroy what they have built together? You will have to read it for yourself to find out!
This book is part of the Cocky Hero Club. It is a second-chance romance with a lot of emotion and angst.
There is pain, lies, deceit, passion, heartbreak, and forgiveness. It is filled with a lot of emotional moments. The tongue is a powerful tool and harsh words once spoken, cannot be taken back. This was slow starting out and it took me a minute to get into it. While the story has a lot of potential, I found it repetitive and didn’t flow well at times. There were inconsistencies within the story, and I had difficulty connecting to the characters. It was a decent read but was lacking for me.

Rip my freaking heart out!!!
Kathy is the Queen when it comes to emotional roller coasters. You know a book is great when you physically react to it. I was gasping, yelling at Mason, arguing with Eden. Just wow. A-maz-ing!
This is such a great story. I was honestly hooked, I couldn’t read quick enough. The emotions were high along with the chemistry and passion. An absolute pleasure to read.
Eden and Mason have known each other since childhood. They both are strong willed people and so in love. The problems with their marriage begin when Mason starts keeping secrets and making decisions without discussing things with Eden. The story totally broke my heart and made me cry at times. A good recommended read.
Fateful Fighter by Kathy Coopmans is a part of the Cocky Hero Club series but this can be a standalone book. This is the story of Mason and Eden who have been friends but more more importantly have been in love since they were young. These two sweethearts married and became a team staying strong through everything. Eden supported Mason and his dream until he started to betray their partnership in marriage with lies. Eden loved Mason but sometimes love isn’t enough when the other person starts to choose his fighting dream over her feelings and their marriage. Enjoyed reading their story.
3.5 stars
Such an intriguing blurb and different from all the other CHC books so far as Eden and Mason are married already.
It was interesting reading about a married couple trying to make it past lies and hurt. They already know and love each other which can make the hurts that much more painful. Eden and Mason have a lot in their relationship to fight for, and it definitely isn’t easy. Especially after Eden says she wants to get a divorce.
The flow of the story was a bit awkward at times, but overall a nice read.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
Why have I waited so long to read this author?! This book…. it’s intense. I couldn’t put it down. From the very first page, it has you in it’s grips and doesn’t let you go. Mason and Eden have it all. They’ve known each other since they were kids. They’ve built their life from the beginning on one motto, no secrets, no lies. Until everything changes. This story is filled with emotion, raw and rough. Tension, anger, animosity, pain, betrayal and heartbreak. Will they find their way back or is there too much hurt to overcome?
Eden Whitaker gives the reader a first hand account of what’s currently going on in her life. Mason Whitaker seems at war with himself. Fighters come in all sizes and all walks of life. Sometimes it’s a matter of fighting ourselves. But this is a story where we see what our couple is fighting for.
We all have our opinions on athletes and their egos and I think you’ll see some of that played out here. Some women may say that men have no clue. So there may be some that can identify with Eden and others may decide that they can identify with Mason. You may decide you want to pick a side while you’re reading. Usually there are two sides but with this story I feel like there’s three. The question becomes, “who are you rooting for?”
We all know how much pain fighting can cause – look at what’s currently going on in the world. There’s a lot of emotion here and the author does a great job at getting her readers to feel it coming off the pages. This was an emotional roller coaster and we can do nothing but go along for the ride. It was a good reminder about what a good friend can do – be an ear to listen, be a shoulder to cry on, and sometimes be the voice of reason.
There have been only a few books where I wanted to spead read and now this has been added to that list. This couple spoke to my heart and I wanted to get to the point where I could see that their world was going to be alright. Every time I thought about the title it just made me want to read that much faster. Then I took a breath and knew I had to slow down because I didn’t want to miss a scene. I can picture reading this book again and if I read it again then I will also need to read more of this author’s work – both of which I’m looking forward to.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
A second chance romance set in the world of Aubrey and Chance from Cocky Hero Club. Eden and Mason gave known each other for a very long time and then fell in love but as often happens life gets in the way and they grow apart but never fully lose the love they have for each other so they get that second shot at their HEA.

A solid 4.5 Read!
This book flowed so effortlessly. The raw emotion was so well written you can feel the pain, the sadness & the emotional heartache with each sentence you read. Their story although fiction seems so real to anyone married & trying to deal with everything that happens within a marriage. I love how Eden isn’t afraid to express her pain, making sure Mason realizes what he has done wrong. This story was emotional & raw. It pulled me in & kept me intrigued, wondering what was going to happen. They have known each other forever & developed a security, not realizing that their relationship had changed in a way that hurt them, but will bring them out stronger than ever!! A beautiful emotional read!
I highly recommend this book. Told in dual POV.
