An offering. An omen. An ill fate… a smaller, weaker region, it relies on Lady Rubin’s gift of diplomacy to stave off ruin. But as the heavy snows appear, she disappears without a trace. And Brygida, true to her ill-made offering, becomes the village’s prime suspect—along with her mothers. When she’s attacked by a demon and marked, she believes the same demon may have taken Lady Rubin. To defeat it before the mark reaches her heart and kills her, and to avoid a clash between her mothers and the village, she agrees to help Lady Rubin’s son Kaspian find her. As the winter deepens and the search stretches, however, demons and spirits begin to emerge in great numbers… with great hunger…
Plagued by strange creatures and malevolent foes, Brygida and Kaspian search for Lady Rubin, praying to find her alive. If they succeed, it could balm the divide between the witches and the village, as well as that between Rubin and the bloodthirsty land at its border. To rescue her might repel the wolf at the door, but then there remains the mark reaching for Brygida’s heart, and the mysterious swell of demons and spirits, staining the snows like an ever-spreading pool of blood…
Find out what fate the demon has in store for Brygida and Rubin in FATE OF THE DEMON, the second book in this romantic dark fantasy series inspired by Slavic mythology and folklore, sure to please fans of Juliet Marillier’s Blackthorn & Grim series and Naomi Novik’s Uprooted.
Read Fate of the Demon to continue the beautifully haunting adventure today!more
Fate of the Demon (Witch of the Lake Book 2) by Miranda Honfleur, Nicolette Andrews this is book number two in this awesome series and I loved reading this story. I highly recommend this story to everyone.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Book 2 continues the story of Brygida and Kaspian begun in “Feast of the Mother (Witch of the Lake Book 1)” as Brygida begins to venture outside her home and forest, getting a taste of the town at the Winter Solstice festival. Brygida is not welcomed or accepted by the villagers or Lady Rubin. Tata is on his deathbed. [renewed before Ch.8] Lady Rubin disappears, perhaps killed by a demon or kidnapped by it. Brygida is injured and the only cure is to kill the demon that injured her.
The story gets darker and more somber as Brygida and Kaspian must face their challenges. It is not a happily ever after ending. There is violence, guilt, betrayal, separation, and death as the story leads to an end that begs for the next Book, with hopefully a happier ending. There are strong emotions, relationship tensions among the characters, self-sacrifice, and love that keep you turning the pages, wondering what will happen.
Excellent second book in the Witch of the Lake series. Brygida and Kaspian’s romance slowly blossoms but is met with challenges as they search for his missing mother and try to cure Brygida of the mark the demon has placed on her. I look forward to the next in the series.
Miranda Honfleur and Nicolette Andrews continue their collaboration on Book 2 of the Witch of the Lake, Fate of the Demon. Once again our hero Kaspian and heroine Brygida can’t catch a break. As the forest awakens and demons infest the land, the star crossed lovers must put romance aside to once again save their people from death! But a peasant revolt, led by a cult of people who believe witches are the reason for all the world’s ills, may separate Kaspian and Brygida forever. Again, Miranda and Nicollette have created a fantasy world that sucks me in, and allows me to escape reality of a dirty kitchen, laundry and vacuuming, for a short time. I love the characters, with all their strengths and flaws, that make them seem so real. I hate cliffhangers and this series has cliffhangers. Yet, the books are available for free in Kindle unlimited,so there is no waiting to get book 3 in the series. I only wish that Brygida and Kaspian could finally get a break to pursue their love for each other! Thank you Miranda and Nicolette for another enjoyable afternoon reading!
A wonderful follow up to Feast of the Mother!
Two of my favorite authors, Miranda Honfleur and Nicolette Andrews, are back with Fate of the Demon (Witch of the Lake Book 2). This is a fantastic book which is a wonderful reimagining of Slavic mythology and folklore. It’s also a totally fun book. Superbly written, with a great plot, a perfect cast from Brygida and Kaspian on down and perfect world-building. I addictively read it through much of the night (be warned that there’s a real risk you won’t be able to put it down). Definitely recommended.
Wow! I am nearly speachless! Having just finished Fate of the Demon, book 2 in Miranda Honfluer’s Witch of the Lake series, I can honestly say this is one of the best series I’ve read. Book one was great; book two is off the charts! Brygida is faced with trials upon trials. She is desparately trying to save the life of another, even while her own life is in peril. Along with Kaspian and Stefan, Brygida sets foot on a quest to slay a demon, but ends up in a very deadly standoff. Decisions must be made and consequences paid by all, including Brygida. Will she survive, pick up the pieces and forage on? Book two was so intense, I can’t wait to see what book three brings!
A dark and haunting fantasy filled with betrayal and blood. I really enjoyed this second installment as things take a turn for the worst. With so many twists and turns there’s no telling what will happen next but I for one can’t wait to see where things go.
Great book!!! I love how the story is getting darker and stronger and this new developments will further enrich the series!! I do wish for them to end up together but I don´t see an easy way to do this, lets just pray you have a great idea on how to fix this, lol.
Fate of the Demon is Book 2 in the Witch of the Lake series by Miranda Honfleur and Nicolette Andrews. Miranda and Nicolette have created a fantastic world with a phenomenal storyline and exceptionally well developed characters (Brygida, Kaspian, and others). This is a superbly written tale that draws you in, has you experience it along with these characters, and keeps you reading to the last page . I highly recommend this book and am anxious to see what these ladies have in store for Book 3. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary review.
A Fantastic addition to the series. That kept me captivated through the whole read. It had me on the edge of my seat with this fantastic page turner. The Authors have brought a fantastic story to fruition that is definitely a must read. I definitely recommend.

What I love most about this book besides the descriptive beautiful writing by Nicolette Andrews and Miranda Honfleur are the witches. These are not your everyday sassy academy cute teen witch or your urban hip witch these are the real witches that you find in the myths and lore of old and the tales that villages and travelers wrote about. Their small huts in the sacred wood, with fired burning and herbs and who knows what all hanging from the rafters to dry and beings in touch with the spirits of the wood, the fauna, the lake beings. Witches kept the demons and all things dark from going out of control and when they were not there to help, watch out. This story reads like an old mythic tale with its darkness and cold and wintery woods and its lightness, love and festivities and all the grey areas in between like when the light crosses over into that darkness and what happens. It’s a story about be careful what you ask for, and growing up being responsible, having your friends back, being honest and when to back away. But the next story to come will be very interesting and exciting to read because I want to see if our two characters Brygida and Kaspian have matured enough to have healed and come into their own power.
I was given a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
