”…an addictive high fantasy that got me reading both this book and its sequel within 4 days because I didn’t want to leave the world Alisha had created. Perfect for fans of the epicness of Lord of the Rings with the more relaxed approach of Eragon and the sass and hilarity of Throne of Glass!”

Vahly goes after her dream
This is a book with some great characters. The story is lively with a lot of action. Each character is unique.
I would recommend this book to those who like magic, elves, dragons, merfolk and other species, war, and some humor. Most of the characters are dragons, elves and merfolk. Vahly is the only human. Some parts of this story are very sad. Some are funny. Vahly is stubborn and will do about anything to be the person that all the dragons believe she is destined to be. It is hard for her to be the only one who cannot fly. She has a lot of spirit and is someone that I enjoyed reading about.
The narrator is amazing. She does a good job bringing each personality to life. She reads with energy and enthusiasm. Her voices are distinct.
Fate of Dragons is the initial installment in Alisha Klapheke’s Dragons Rising Collection. Join in the adventure that spans species in the quest to secure the ultimate goal-Earth itself. Jade dragons fight Lapis dragons, dragons fight elves, all fight the sea people in this deadly battle. The storyline is fast-paced and well written, filled with magic, adventure, intrigue, subterfuge, politics and danger. The characters are well developed and engaging. Valhy is overwhelmed, having been born an Earth Queen with no apparent magic. Read on to see how she and her friends work together to attempt to discover her powers and band the factions together against the evil Sea Queen.
I really enjoyed this! The world building is cool. Fun take on elemental magic. Each is tied to a different magical being.
– Humans – Sea Folk (mermaids)
– Elves – Dragons
Dual POV. Plenty of action, a bit of romance.
.
Narrator did a great job. She doesn’t have a huge range of voices but she definitely differentiates between characters.
.
Some Quotes:
Once again his presence hit Vahly like a strong drink.
.
Leaning on the nearest tree, Vahly sucked in deep breaths. “Are you stopping because I’m about to fall on my face or because you actually need to track?”
His mouth twitched. “A little bit of both.”
I loved this story. It was great! I don’t think the thesaurus has even words for me say how I definitely read this again.
This was a little slow at first, then came the elves. The only drawback was the abbreviated story line found in ebooks.
I loved the unique take on the different species and how each one held their magick.
being an ARC reviewer has it’s perks,And reading and reviewing the story is one of them. It adorned it’s characters in descriptiveness rarely used in fantasy. the adventure encompasses you within her imagination. can hardly wait for the next installment,
4 Cranky Stars
Vahly is the last human, she was saved and raised by the leader of the dragons. She was marked as the next Queen of the Earth, but she didn’t have any powers. The sea folk were taking over the plant, they had already wiped out the humans and were fighting the dragons. The elves were trying to stay out of it. Vahly finds herself in the land of the elves and awakens here powers. The different species band together to fight the sea. It leaves you on a cliffhanger, Vahly must travel to find a magical object and a familiar, her two friends, Arc (an elf) and Nix ( a dragon), to finish awakening her powers.
The story line is amazing, but a bit to wordy for me. Lots of description of the environment, buildings, and clothing, which I find unnecessary. All the people/species you meet are a bunch of amazing characters. I have to say, Nix and Arc are my favorites. Even with the overly described landscape, this is a good book!
I really like the idea of this story, but it felt a little slow to me. Once I got to the middle it started to get better. There was more action, and I’m glad I finished reading the book. It is a story about different species of creatures fighting for control over the land. Dragons, elves, sea folk, and the only surviving human who turns out to be a fabled Earth Queen. Rescued by the Lapis Dragon clan’s matriarch Amona, Vahly becomes their only hope of fighting back against the Sea Queen as she tries to kill off all of the other creatures. The only problem is she has no idea how to bring her magic up to help her adopted family. As she sets out on a quest for answers she finds an unlikely ally in a elf who was close to death, but she will also feel the sting of loss along the way. I will read the next in the series to see what happens, and if the pace of the story picks up
Vahly is the last human and possible Earth Queen. Raised by the Lapis Dragon Matriarch. She never really fit in, and isn’t sure she can live up to the destiny thrust upon her. The Sea Queen is planning on covering everything in water, and killing all her enemies. Vahly and 4 friends set out on a mission and things don’t go exactly as planned.
I really like Vhaly, Nix and Arc. I look forward to their future adventures.
I really loved the book. This is what epic fantasy is all about. I recommend you go get it today!
Overall rating: 4.6
Read some reviews on different sides of the spectrum and my curiosity got the best of me. Very glad I picked up this book. The characters are very intriguing, especially having a savior that may or may not be empowered enough to live up to her title. She wouldn’t be the first, but sadly seems to be the last. Dragons, elves, and merfolk, and one lone human….what could go wrong? Everything, which is exactly what kept me reading page after page and happily losing track of time. My impatience made me skip over some descriptive places ( apologies to the author) but nevertheless this book did its job! I am now among the masses anxiously awaiting a release day once more! Great book! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
What an epic story and journey. This story has all the makings of being a motion picture with its beautiful descriptions and wonderful developed characters and amazing storyline. It is packed full of action, adventure, mystery, drama and suspense. It is gripping and pulls you in and doesn’t let go until you reach the end. Vahly And her band of friends have an amazing adventure throughout the story with more to come. I am excited for the next book and can’t wait to find out what happens to our lovely characters. This is most definitely worth reading and doesn’t disappoint with a fantastic flow throughout the story.
Enter an exciting world where those living on land are at risk from those in the sea. Meet Vahly, the Earth Queen and the last remaining human, living among the dragon shifters. She must find her magic before it’s too late. The Sea Queen wants to drown the whole world with only one island left to go and dragons and elves standing in her way, unless Vahly can find her magic in time to help turn the tide. The dragons have given her a home, but they don’t know how to tap into her earth magic. Dragons don’t trust elves, but Vahly is desperate. When she stumbles upon an elf who is close to death and missing some of his memories, she’s willing to risk her life to help him.
This book has a lot of fabulous elements to it including wonderful characters and great chemistry between Vahly and her new ally. The pace keeps moving, although there were a couple of slower scenes, and the plot is interesting. The descriptions are usually good, but a few times they felt forced. I also felt that the dialogue between Vahly and Amona toward the end was too thorough, and to keep so many dragons fed on one large island didn’t seem possible. I would be happy to read more in the series as Vahly continues her search for unleashing her magic with the swoonworthy elf at her side!
Absolutely loving this book
This book is an amazing and unique tale of Dragons, Elves, Sea Creatures, Humans and Magic. Our heroine is just an ordinary human (or is she?) who is expected to do great things. Vahly lives in a world where Dragons and the Sea Queen (really she is a witch) are battling for the last bit of dry land. Vahly needs to discover her own magic and with the help of a hot elf she sets off on an epic journey. Her story and her friendships are vivid and captured my heart. This book kept dragging me farther into the story with each page. I just didn’t want it to end- I wanted to keep reading and living in that world… Books like that become my favorites. I can not wait to see what happens in the rest of the series.
For a book lover there are few things better than a new series by a beloved author. Alisha Klapheke is such an author and Fate of Dragons: Dragons Rising Book One: An Epic Fantasy is just the sort of new series start that her legions of fans wait for. Incredibly original and imaginative, this story, with its elves, dragons, sea people, different types of magic (earth / human, wind / elves, fire / dragons and water / sea people), exciting and superbly written plot and great characters really has it all. Incredible fun. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely (desperately) looking forward to the next book in this series.
