Mehl Ramps Up the Suspense in This Brand-New U.S. Marshals SeriesMercy Brennan followed in her father’s footsteps in a law enforcement career, but she has no interest in any other connection to him. A U.S. Marshal in St. Louis, Missouri, she’s assigned to a joint task force with the St. Louis PD that puts her back into contact with her father and in the sights of St. Louis’s most powerful gang.… most powerful gang.
When the gang has reason to believe Mercy has possession of some highly sensitive and incriminating information, her boss assigns Mark St. Laurent–a Deputy U.S. Marshal and Mercy’s ex-boyfriend–to get her out of town until they can guarantee her safety.
Initially unaware of the danger she’s in and uncomfortable working with Mark, Mercy’s frustration escalates when she discovers the extent her boss and Mark have been keeping her in the dark. It isn’t until a freak ice storm hits, stranding them at a remote location and out of contact with the district office, that the full severity of their situation becomes clear. As the storm worsens, the forces of nature combine with a deadly enemy closing in to put their lives at imminent risk. Can they survive long enough for help to arrive–if help is even coming at all?

Amazing, action packed book.
With twenty two books to her name, I’m a little surprised I haven’t read Nancy Mehl’s work…until now. Fatal Frost, opens in St. Louis where the U.S. Marshals and local police are working to thwart a powerful drug cartel’s plan to take over their city. Hope surges when a CI slips a video into the hands of officer Nick Brennan, but fades just as quickly when a mole within the department betrays Brennan—resulting in his death. The last person to have contact with Nick, his daughter Mercy, is now targeted by the cartel. Immediate and decisive action by the U.S. Marshals Service may be the only way to protect Mercy, ensnare the cartel, and root out the mole.
Mehl’s opening scene is intense and she lays a lot of groundwork in the first 7 chapters. As the scene shifts away from St. Louis, more pointed attention is given to Mercy, her partner Tally, and her ex-boyfriend Mark. Of the three, Mercy was the hardest for me to connect with due to her obstinate nature. However, Tally and Mark were able to soften her edges while adding an element of hope and compassion to an otherwise dire tale. The action scenes engaged me more than the rekindling of the romance between Mercy (aka Frosty the Snow Cop) and Mark. Otherwise, my introduction to Nancy Mehl’s voice and writing style was positive and I’m sure I’ll read more from her in the future.
I would recommend Fatal Frost to suspense readers, those who enjoy books detailing police procedures, as well as men (despite being a romantic suspense novel).
With thanks to Bethany House for providing me with a review copy. All opinions are my own.
This US Marshals versus drug cartel/gang takeover was fast paced and over-the-top action packed. Nancy Mehl sprinkles her story with faith and a dash of romance from rounding out the story with a win for the good guys on more than one level. Favorite character: Tally, devoted husband, father, friend, and loyal law enforcement officer!
I greatly enjoyed this book. Along with the cartel and bad cops and Marshals Mercy has a lot to work through. Spellbinding to the end. And it shows how in the worst circumstances God is faithful. It’s romantic but not the same. It leaves you wondering even about this to the end.
Macy Brennan is a US Marshal in St. Louis. She is assigned to a joint task force to put her in touch with some of the powerful gangs in the city. When the gang believes she has some incriminating information, they will stop at nothing to get it from her. Macy does not know that someone in her office is feeding information to the gang. How do she and the other marshal survive during a blizzard with the gang out to find her? it’s a page-turner finding out.
I liked this book because it kept me guessing. I enjoyed it.
Fast paced page Turner of a book.
Good read
Another good book by Nancy Mehl.
A bit convoluted at times. Probably better read as part of the series, not a stand alone book.
Very good story. Recommend
Love this author & always puts me on edge. Where is this plot going is usually a surprise. Hard to stop reading, more likely finish once I’ve begun. Awesome & look forward to the next one.
Held me spellbound. Couldn’t put it down.
Held my attention through out the whole book
This book held my attention from beginning to end. The characters were believable and the book had an intriguing storyline.
I noticed a couple of things that didn’t really make sense, but all in all it was a great storyline.
Loved this book. I could hardly put it down. Kept me guessing.
Loved the book it kept my interest from the first chapter.
Anything by Nancy Mehl is a page turning book. After I read my first book by her I was hooked. She writes Christian romantic suspense with plenty of action, edge of the seat suspense. Her stories are riveting, well developed characters, and a writing style that will pull you in until the last page. Nancy Mehl became one of my favorite authors after the second book that I read by her. It was even better than the first & she has only improved since.
The odds were all against the good guys winning this one, but they did in the end. Great twists and ongoing chalalenges for the all. You will enjoy this one!
