Fata Morgana—the epic novel of love and duty at war across the reach of time.At the height of the air war in Europe, Captain Joe Farley and the baseball-loving, wisecracking crew of the B-17 Flying Fortress Fata Morgana are in the middle of a harrowing bombing mission over East Germany when everything goes sideways. The bombs are still falling and flak is still exploding all around the 20-ton … 20-ton bomber as it is knocked like a bathtub duck into another world.
Suddenly stranded with the final outcasts of a desolated world, Captain Farley navigates a maze of treachery and wonder—and finds a love seemingly decreed by fate—as his bomber becomes a pawn in a centuries-old conflict between remnants of advanced but decaying civilizations. Caught among these bitter enemies, a vast power that has brought them here for its own purposes, and a terrifying living weapon bent on their destruction, the crew must use every bit of their formidable inventiveness and courage to survive.
“With Fata Morgana, Steven Boyett and Ken Mitchroney have created a work that defies categorization, unless that category is “engrossing, brilliant story-telling.” They breathe life into the past and the future, in a book that manages to be both thought-provoking and thrilling. I loved it!” -Jan Burke, New York Times best-selling author of Bones and The Messenger
“Gripping adventure stuff: a perfect updating of a classic mode of science fictional storytelling, modernized without losing any of the charm of those old, glorious war novels.”
-Cory Doctorow, New York Times best-selling author of Walkaway
“Action, adventure, cool speculative events, well-drawn characters, and an ending that sticks the landing: Fata Morgana pushes all my happy buttons.” — John Scalzi, New York Times bestselling author
“The twists, turns, and adrenaline never stop flowing in Fata Morgana. You will be transported to another world in more ways than one. Easily one of the hardest hitting science fiction books of 2017!” — Nicholas Sansbury Smith, USA Today bestselling author of Hell Divers
“So gripping and real it felt as if it were logged just minutes after landing. Fata Morgana is squarely in the ranks of the most classic and ingenious science fiction—a masterwork of purest cinema, relentlessly charming and inventive to the end.” — Chris Sanders, director of Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon
“A rip-roaring adventure full of heart, duty, and sacrifice, Fata Morgana is a perfect combination of historical-novel authenticity and space-opera splendor. I couldn’t put it down, and the ending made me cry.” — Brooke Johnson, author of the Chroniker City series
“Fata Morgana is genre-bending, epic, and wholly original: an unexpected, fascinating page-turner.” —Lee Kelly, author of A Criminal Magic and City of Savages

Good Book went a little weird at the end but enjoyable to listen to
I did not finish this book.
Start sounds like a WW2 story, which it is, but with a sci-fi twist in the middle. Loved when that happened.
A very enjoyable read.
for time/dimensional fans this is a god read
Great world building along with a very original concept involving time travel and a future world where WWII is never quite resolved. This story is definitely original with good characters and well worth the time to read. I don’t want to say too much as this would spoil the ending but it is a good story and ticks the boxes for WWII fans, military fans and sci-fy fans which is a very difficult trick to pull off!
I enjoyed the book I like SiFi. And ww2 books this was both
This was an entertaining book and a great story.
As a fan of both historical fiction and sci-fi I enjoyed reading this. You get a hint that something strange is going to happen when the pilot reveals that the lady painted on the fuselage isn’t anyone he ever met. I won’t write more so as not to be a spoiler
This book drew me in quickly with it’s realistic WWII details of both character and environment. The author made his premise believable, entertaining, and chilling.
I bought this book because I like science fiction and history. I was totally rewarded. I found the history aspect in the WWII B-17 bomber, the science fiction in the time travel story, the adventure in the struggle in the other dimension, and then a surprising dose of romance between the male and female leads – not to mention the seemingly magical healing of one of the crew members. This may not be in the Jules Verne league of science fiction, but I would highly recommend that you make an effort to read it. I will not reveal the end of the story but, for me, this was probably the most compelling feature of the story.
Worth a read.
Very original and couldn’t put it down! Don’t have to be a pilot or have lived through WWII to appreciate the story this good. Some technical stuff, some science fiction stuff, some romantic stuff, and it all equals a “can’t put it down book!!” Try it, you won’t be disappointed.
I was impressed by the careful research that must have gone into the description of World War II B-17 bombers, their crews, and the missions they flew. The story had an old-school 1950’s sci-fi feel that I enjoyed (showing my age, I guess), characters that gained my interested and sympathy, and an intriguing mix of historical fiction/fantasy that somehow worked for me. The anti-climactic ending felt right, in keeping with my own observation that for many combat veterans their youthful wartime service was the most memorable time of their lives and that the friendships formed then were the friendships that meant most.
History with a science fiction twist. Very good combo!
This book kept me going all the way to the end with twists, one after the other. A splendid combination of writing, story line, characters and dialog.
Well done, good story line with good coverage of the ww2 aircraft.
I feel almost like I’m doing something wrong in recommending this book because one of the authors, Ken Mitcherony, is a friend of mine. It’s a fabulous book, though, and I would recommend it no matter who wrote it.
Ken loves drawing comics, but he especially loves antique trains and planes. This is the story of a B-17 bomber during World War two, and the crew who flew her, and the adventures they had.
Or will have.
Yes, it’s a time travel story, too.
Time travel stories can be some of the best ones, ever, and this is one of them.
It’s full of all the action of any war story, lived by characters that come to life and make you care about them, plus SO much more.
This one will haunt you for a while.
This book turned out much better than I thought, sure glad it did not happen this way.
Well written and enjoyable! Very thoughtful story. Humans, right?
