Her son loves him, and the more time she spends with the man, the more she’s afraid she’ll come to love him just as much.
Danger always comes back to haunt those who run. It was a lesson Dakota learned before. Now, it might be the man she refuses to fall for who makes the greatest sacrifice of all.

We have met this couple before as friends/family from previous stories. Macon and Dakota cannot really get along, but Dakota’s young son has latched on to the man that fills her dreams. Macon is the town vet, and his heart outshines more than he realizes. Dakota has a past that comes back rearing its ugly head. She needs to protect her son and it just so happens the man to do that is Macon. Together they will have to put their differences aside and follow their hearts. These two are so good together. There’s danger, suspense, hope and love. Instant family that Macon never saw coming.
Book 3 in the Promise Me series by Carrie Ann Ryan.
Macon is a Brady member and a veterinarian with his own shared practice. In previous book he was shot badly and is struggling with ptsd and the help with that he get in ring and fights. He’s secretly liked Dakota for a long time but she’s always had a don’t approach vibe until Dakota reaches out to him.
Dakota has been through a lot and has many secrets but when Macon makes his intentions to her she realises she needs him as much as he needs her.
I absolutely love Carrie Ann Ryan and personally can not get any better for romance but with really great characters, I love that her characters are very real with their on illnesses or issues like Nate’s migraines or Arden’s lupus illness. My only issue in book was when the narrator said Macon name and it came out more like bacon to me but other then that can’t get enough of this series.
This was a well done story. If you have read the others, which you don’t have to to enjoy this story, you have seen Macon and Dakota together and was wondering if something more would happen and now it has. Dakota has great friends but feels this need to do everything on her own and doesn’t want to ask for help. Macon wants Dakota but isn’t sure that he would be what is best for her. When it is her turn for the dating pack with her friends she doesn’t feel ready to go on a date. They convince Macon to be her ‘date’ so she can have a night out at least. They are hoping they can smooth out the friendship between these two at least. When Dakotas past tears it’s ugly head, she will have to learn to let her friends and Macon help her. As the two grow closer their feelings come to the surface. Through in an adorable boy and a mama cat and kittens and it is a fantastic read. I definitely recommend this story.
Ms. Ryan keeps doing this to me, I love every single character that she writes about but omg she loves tugging at the heartstrings. In every book I am either crying or trying not too she loves giving me the feels and I love her for that. Macon and Dakota were no different this book took me through an emotional roller coaster and I loved every minute of it. I cannot wait to read the next book.
Loved this pair, though i would have loved to have seen more about Macon’s work like we have with the other siblings. But it may just be the animal lover in me wanting more. Loved seeing them fight their way through their journey to each other
Wow! Far from Destined had me wanting Macon and Dakota to make it before I even knew what was at stake. Macon Brady is strong and resilient like the rest of his brothers. He is also as stubborn. This makes for an interesting match with Dakota who is protecting her past as well as her heart at all costs. I just loved the way that Far from Destined brought these two together along with Joshua and kittens. Because if a great romance doesn’t do it, you will absolutely melt for a little boy and kittens. You will be destined to love this story.
Far From Destined is the story of Dakota and Macon. This was a really great read. The buildup of their relationship was excellently written. The development of Macon, Dakota and Joshua becoming a family was written very realistically and moved at a believable pace. The drama that happened was heart wrenching and made you feel like you were in the moment. The conclusion was my favorite part and the dialogue at the end with Joshua was perfect! Now I’m at the edge of my seat waiting for Nate and Myra’s story.
Far From Destined is a emotional, suspenseful, family filled, drama, friends and laughs. I was drawn into the story from the start. Macon and Dakota were likeable, and so good for one another. Little Joshua, was an added bonus. I like how with each story we get a bit more of past characters, and how this family sticks together. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite tropes is single parent romance. I love when characters find love again—even if it takes a bit of dirty play by friends and family to make it happen.
From the very first book in this fantastic Promise Me series, I’ve been extremely intrigued by both Macon and Dakota. I was dying to know their pasts—especially Dakota’s—and see where they ended up romantically. And, wow, I was so not disappointed.
Dakota survived a horrible relationship—taking nothing but her son with her when she finally got out. And Mason’s been trying to overcome the terrible injury to both his body and mind when Hazel was kidnapped. Both of them had a lot of emotional healing to do—and they both had to try to put their pasts behind them to move on.
I loved the spark that built between Dakota and Mason. Well, more like a raging inferno once it ignited. And their friendship and romance just moved quickly once they got to know each other and what motivated and drove them to be the people they were. Of course, they never would have gotten together without a whole lot of interference from Hazel, Paris, and Myra, and of course Mason’s brothers, Cross, Prior, and Nate.
I loved Far From Destined from start to finish and cannot wait to read Myra and Nate’s story next. From the pieces that have been revealed so far, From Our First is going to be epic.
Carrie does it again, she hasn’t disappointed once since I’ve started reading her books. Wasn’t easy for them to get together but in the end it was all so worth it. I don’t want to give anything away. Just know that you need to grab this book and the other 2 before this one. We need men like them in our lives.
Love the continued stories of the pact the women in this series made. Up next is Dakota and Macon. Both have scars and big, thick walls of defense from their last and are wary to risk much of anything for a chance at love. Even though the attraction is there beneath the surface barbs. Enjoyed seeing them both fall, not only into each other but into a place of hope inside themselves. With the addition of a cutie kid, fun secondary characters, and some drama, this was a definite stay-up-late read.
My heart hurt so much for what all Dakota and Macon have went through in their pasts and some of that is what is holding Dakota back from loving the man, but thank goodness for little boys, they always seem to know things adults don’t and i love how this couple plus one little boy made my heart feel better when
Macon is surrounded by lots of close siblings; four brothers and a sister, while he is trying to mentally recover from a wound he received when he saved a life. Now he has PTSD and night terrors. So, he stays on the sidelines during large get togethers. Dakota has had trauma of her own with her ex but she has a young son to raise. She is full of anger and takes it out on him. He keeps thinking he must have done something wrong and he really likes her. Lots of interference from family and friends playing Cupid. Nicely written and interesting book. Characters are developed and a good deal of background given for understanding.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
Far From Destined is the third book in the Promise Me series by Carrie Ann Ryan. This is such a great series and I have loved every book so far but this one might just be my favorite. I loved Dakota, Macon, and Joshua. Macon and Dakota’s relationship was such a heartstring puller for me. I loved Joshua’s presence and he was written like a kid. Normally, books will have the kid seeming to be way older than what is stated but not so in this case. I can’t wait for the next book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story!!! I’ve been curious about Dakota since we met the pact sisters, so I am so very happy that she finally had her turn in the pact. Though I have to say, the pact hasn’t been working as expected .
This story was so cute and sweet but also had some action and plenty of strong moments mixed into it. I cannot describe why exactly but this was a great story! Because I cannot put my finger on the why, this review will also be shorter than I normally like but I’d prefer a genuine review over a forced one. I think one of the things I like is the complexity of Macon where he fights but is also super sweet with Joshua and the animals that he works with. And Dakota is just a super strong single mother, but we also get an insight in het inner fears and doubt. And I love this because she embodies girl power where she is strong but also has fears and doubts. This combination is super important to me because it gives the message that it’s not weak to be soft which people sometimes seem to think. Next to that, there’s Joshua and he’s an adorable kid!
I would recommend this story to others because the characters are amazing and the story is good. Again, there’s is a bonus epilogue and I loved it so don’t forget to download it!
Macon and Dakota’s story has so many emotions, it just sucks you in. It hurts watching them hurt so much, but amazing at the same time, and then they find their HEA with each other and Joshua and you just get all the feels.
In this third addition of this series we get Macon and Dakota’s story. Where it can be read as a standalone story, it would be helpful to read the other books in the series so that one is more familiar with the supporting characters and previous events that are referenced in this book.
So we get a deeper understanding of Macon and how his life has changed after being the victim of a shooting. He has anger issues and PTSD with a side of nightmares that he is working through with the assistance of a therapist and through boxing. He has had feelings for Dakota and her son Joshua but has not pursued them.
In this book we also learn more about Dakota and her troubled past and her fierce determination to be as independent as possible. We were able to get a better understanding of her as a person and her determination not rely on others as she has been let down by others in the past that were supposed to be caretakers for her and ended up abandoning her in the end. We also see her realistic struggles with juggling being a single parent and business owner that are relatable to.
Both of these characters were well written characters that one can relate to. They both have a strong support system that they at times refused to utilize. At times, I could sympathize with Dakota’s feelings that others were taking over her life while at the same time I wanted to yell at her that there was nothing wrong with accepting help from others. I also liked the close dynamic of Macon’s family. Where they have their sibling issues, it was a great support for Macon. I enjoyed the return of the characters from the previous books in the series as they do play important intertwining rolls for both main characters.
The plot of this story moved along well and kept me interested to see what would happen next. It was at times action packed and showed the high emotions of the situations that the characters have experienced in the past and present.
In the audio version of this book, the narrators Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder did a great job bringing this book to life. The pair made this book entertaining listening experience.
Overall, this was a good book and a good addition to this series that I would recommend to others.
Macon is a changed man who has been struggling with nightmares about being shot. He remembers the bullet in his chest. He remembers bleeding out with each pulse of this body. He remembers how he would have died alone after sending his brother, Cross, to save Hazel. Macon remembers feeling helpless and weak and hates those feelings. Dakota has her own secrets. Dakota is a single mother to Joshua and owns a coffee shop. Dakota ran from her ex to protect herself and her unborn child. Macon has used fighting to control his anger of feeling helpless. When Dakota sees his hands and face after a fight and tells him to stay away from her and Joshua, Macon knows it is time to stop fighting. It is Dakota’s turn at dating and wants no part of it, but the girls have an idea of setting her and Macon up to try to get them to get along for the sake of their group. Macon and Dakota like spending time together and their attraction grows. Will Macon be able to protect Dakota and Joshua when Dakota’s ex comes back and poses a threat to them? Will Dakota finally realize she is not alone but has the love of Macon, their friends, and her loyal customers? Can these two damaged souls help each other heal? I absolutely love Carrie Ann Ryan! Far From Destined is an amazing book with great characters that will keep the reader engaged from the beginning to the end. Macon and Dakota’s chemistry is off the charts scorching hot. Far From Destined has, family, chemistry, danger, friends, a precious little boy, and few animals thrown in the mix. Carrie Ann Ryan is a MUST read author for this reader. I would HIGHLY recommend getting Far From Destined and the other books in the Promise Me series. I received an ARC of this book, and I am leaving my honest review.
Carrie Ann Ryan sure knows how to pack an emotional punch and Far From Destined was no exception. I loved Macon, and Dakota grew on my by the end. The real page stealer in this store was Joshua, that kid was adorable. I can’t wait to for Nates story.
Dakota and Macon are far from destined to be together. The attraction between the two, is stronger than they thought.
Dakota is a single mom who runs a coffee shop. When her friends set her up with a Brady brother, Dakota is not happy. Macon is the one brother she don’t want around her and her son. When she gets news about her ex, all that changes.
Macon has his own demons to deal with. The nightmares and vividly remembering what happened to him, is too much for him to handle. Dakota has issues with him and he’s determined to find out why. The attraction for Dakota is there and he plans to act on it.
Carrie Ann Ryan writes with such emotion you can feel it jump off the pages. I loved this book and I highly recommend reading it.
Can’t wait to see what comes next.
