In this thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series, it’s game over for the criminals who cross Lieutenant Eve Dallas as she investigates the murder of a virtual reality wunderkind.Bart Minnock, founder of the computer gaming giant U-Play, is found in his locked private playroom, in a pool of blood, his head separated from his body. Despite his violent end, Eve can’t find … end, Eve can’t find anyone—girlfriend and business partners included—who seemed to have a problem with the enthusiastic, high-spirited millionaire.
Of course gaming, like any business, has its fierce rivalries and dirty tricks—as Eve’s husband, Roarke, one of U-Play’s competitors, knows well. But Minnock was not naïve, and he knew how to fight back in the real world as well as the virtual one.
Eve and her team are about to enter the next level of police work, in a world where fantasy is the ultimate seduction—and the price of defeat is death…

I love the characters!!
Love the JD Robb books and this one was great. Very inventive plot that keeps you guessing. Real page turner but Dallas and Roark solve the mystery.
haven’t read J.D. Robb in a while and I plan on reading more.
A fun romp in the sorta kinda futuristic world of crime-solving Lt Eve Dallas, and her trusty sidekick-husband, Rourke. I’m hooked on this series; the characters are easy to distinguish and realistic, and the crimes/murders hold just the right amount of gore and suspense. This book, set in the nascent holo-world of gaming, is fun — all that’s missing are my goggles!
I like all of the “In Death” series by J.D. Robb, a pseudonym for Ruth Rendell. The series takes place in the future where cars drive, but can also go vertical in traffic meaning airborne. The main character is Eve Dallas, a homicide detective, who is married to a billionaire. She speaks for the dead and is dedicated to her job and always finds the killer. She has a difficult past and she was physically and sexually abused by her father culminating in her killing him with a small knife when she was
very young. She was found wandering the streets of Dallas with a broken arm at 8 which is how she got her name. She grew up in foster care and only remembered her past with therapy. If you do not like explicit sex scenes do not read as these occur between Eve Dallas and her husband.
The entire “Death” series is fantastic!
