In this thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series, it’s game over for the criminals who cross Lieutenant Eve Dallas as she investigates the murder of a virtual reality wunderkind.Bart Minnock, founder of the computer gaming giant U-Play, is found in his locked private playroom, in a pool of blood, his head separated from his body. Despite his violent end, Eve can’t find … end, Eve can’t find anyone—girlfriend and business partners included—who seemed to have a problem with the enthusiastic, high-spirited millionaire.
Of course gaming, like any business, has its fierce rivalries and dirty tricks—as Eve’s husband, Roarke, one of U-Play’s competitors, knows well. But Minnock was not naïve, and he knew how to fight back in the real world as well as the virtual one.
Eve and her team are about to enter the next level of police work, in a world where fantasy is the ultimate seduction—and the price of defeat is death…

I’m not much of a gamer, but this one gave me chills!
Imagine playing video games so realistic you feel the mud beneath your toes, the noise of the jungle, or the clash of swords?
Four brilliant scientists create the ultimate vid-game company, U-Play, and are hard at work on their next big venture when one of them turns up dead in his own home in a supposedly sealed room. Worse- he’s beheaded.
Lieutenant Eve Dallas has her hands full deciphering this classic case of who-done-it in the world of cutthroat (pun intended) enterprise.
This was a real page-turner for me. I love a book that keeps you guessing until the very end. I was wrong, by the way
Roarke and Eve are dynamic together. Eve is a cop first. She’s rough and at times brash, while Roarke is the calm to her storm. Their relationship is not easy, which only adds to the genuine love that runs deep between these two. I especially enjoy the rare moments when Eve shows her vulnerability.
Favorite lines:
WHILE SWORDS OF LIGHTNING SLASHED AND stabbed murderously across the scarred shield of sky, Bart Minnock whistled his way home for the last time.

She looked at him, those gilded eyes warm, so for a moment it seemed no one else walked the sidewalk, no one else breathed the air. Only the two of them.

I can’t say enough about the “Death in…” series. Each one is fast-paced, with plot twists and turns and characters that simply rock. Every one is an excellent read.

JD Robb never ceases to please. I can never put her books down. They are wonderfully entertaining, have realistic characters and plots and best of all, I never see the end coming. They are a detective mystery reader’s dream.
Don’t want to put it down, good.

J.D. Robb is the best!
This series is awesome, you will not want to put the book down.
This was an interesting and different twist for me. It was about a murder happening in a game. One doesn’t have to be a gamer or understand the lingo to enjoy the mystery. The mystery stands on its own. As all the books in this series an excellent read.
I love all the ‘In Death’ series I’ve read. Strong female characters. Good plot lines. Interesting fantasy world.
