Laura Greenwood and Arizona Tape have given us ‘Fangs for Nothing’, the first book in the “Vampire Detective” series. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one but after a bit, I realized this is just a fun, rather light-hearted, reverse romance with a bit of mystery to solve. Between the character’s quirky personalities and the bit of intrigue, it was a great escape for a few hours.
An amazing wonderful adventure from a pair of wonderful writers. They bring characters to life and so much more. I received a arc copy from booksprout and volunteer to review this book.
I read this little gem in a day, did not want to put it down! Lucy was great–perfect balance of snark and vulnerability. Extra points for the vampire puns and language! The mystery had me flipping pages, as did the interactions between Lucy and the three hotties set on claiming her heart. I’m really looking forward to the next book in this series, and I’m dying to know how the mystery will finally be resolved! If you’re looking for a witty heroine determined to make her own way in an engaging vampire world, you should definitely give this one a try.
This book opens with Lucy having a phone conversation with her sort of fiancé William Williamsbourgh III. The conversation appears to be routine for them, he asks if she’s coming home soon, followed by is she ready to marry him yet. Apparently he was a day late in asking and she’s still holding it against him almost a hundred years later. While that’s not a bad start to her day it’s about to go downhill. First her blood supply is the wrong type and she’s paying too much for that to happen, followed by a mysterious caller with a riddle, then a package is delivered out of nowhere. As she debates the possible contents she lists some of Williams gifts. I started giggling and really didn’t stop for a while. The package contained one very quick fur ball of black cat.
We meet her friend Derek, the one William had referred to as someone she might be dating. Then a friend of William’s shows up in the middle of the night wanting her help to find a watch.
It’s that case that is going to open up a whole can of worms and also has her working with a childhood friend Watson Xavier Smith.
There’s a lot going on in this book and it’s so much fun. I laughed out loud many times especially where William and either Derek or Watson were involved. Lucy is certainly in over her head.
It’s the ending of this book that had me immediately buying the next one. Oh my!
Lucinda Corentine, Lucy, is a vampire and a private investigator. Lucy is sort of engaged to William but not quite because William proposed a year late. It has now been 100 years since William first asked and Lucy still has not said yes. Maybe Lucy is finally ready to say yes. We will have to wait and see. The other guy in her life is Derek. He is an inventor. Lucy has a hard time getting cases but she is working on one now. She also must outmaneuver a rival PI named Watson. He also is her childhood boyfriend. Which is why Lucy feels she must prove she is a good PI. Lucy tries so hard to be a successful PI. She is definitely not there yet. While trying to solve one case she stumbles unto another mystery which has the potential to have dire consequences. This book ends with a cliffhanger. The story has some humor which will make you laugh at their antics. The interactions between Lucy and the tree men in her life keep her busy. Lucy must decide who she really wants. Overall it is a fun read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
First let me state that I received an advanced reader copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.
Wow!!! What a gr8 mystery. Lucy is funny and snarky, I like her. She’s supposed to be engaged to William, has the hots for Derek, and seems to dislike Watson and she’s trying to solve a mystery. This story has a cliffhanger so be prepared to want book 2. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.
This was a fun start in a new series. It was well written with interesting characters and world building that makes me want to know more.
Looking forward to more Adventures with Lucy and her (potential) harem of men in her life.
I received this as an Advance reader Copy from Booksprout with the hopes I would like it and review it.
This was the first book in this series and I found it to be interesting. The main characters were intriguing, and the female lead brought a little fun and humor to the book. The storyline had some action, suspense, mystery, intrigue and drama, and was entertaining to me. It was a pretty nice read.

Fun, lighthearted vampire cozy with a slightly ditzy lead who has quite the interesting love life. Lucy is a PI, and there is a case for her in this book, but something doesn’t seem right about it. Most of the story revolves around her love life which is quickly becoming very complicated. A fiance she has been putting off for 100 years, an inventor friend who wants more, a a childhood best friend all vying for her attention. This is a slow burn RH and stays clean.
It is the first book in a series and there is quite of bit of world building and stage setting for things to come. There are a few mystery left unsolved and questions left unanswered at the end of this book. There is also a HUGE cliffhanger bombshell dropped in the last page. Yep, I dove right into book 2.
Lucy is a Private Investigator. She does things her own way to the consternation of her mother who is all about appearances. William and Lucy were promised to each other more than 100 years ago but Lucy just cannot say yes to William. Yet. Her friend Derek wants to be more than a friend. This story is fun for all. Highly recommended.

Lucy is a 125 year old vampire and tales on a career as a private investigator, I like the storyline. I like the characters but I am hopping to see some growing up in Lucy on the next books because for such an old being she is kind of indecisive and immature. I also really liked the other characters and her cat. This is a nice beginning of a new series and I liked it.

This is the first in Greenwood’s new series The Vampire Detective. Lucy is a fun, captivating main character – vampire and PI. I loved the humor and poor William punished to 100 years for being a year late…but I love that she loves him and knows they will be together, but past relationships emerge and may cloud the clarity of her feelings. Ends on a bit of a cliffhanger which for me if super frustrating but thankfully I have books 2 and 3 all queued up and ready to read! I can’t wait to see what will be next in Lucy’s adventures with her PI cases as well as her relationships!

This reminded me a lot of Ashryn Baker series but without all the action. I’m funny about RH as it can be overdone & over written &&& waaayy over sexed. This particular series is definitely not one of those. It is definitely a series for the first time RH reader. This is the slow burn sweet innocent kind. Goes to show you there’s all kinds of versions of RH. Not all readers are open to the fast burn make your jaw drop & eyes pop BDSM…M/M/F kind of action .

A fishy client, two men fighting over her, and mystery gifts being sent to her.
Her fiancé William put her in touch with a friend who needs to find something. A watch that was owned by his deceased wife. But the watch is a dime a dozen and nothing special about it. Why does he want it found? Something is fishy about him. In her quest to find it she ends up bringing her friend Derek into the search, she runs into her former friend Watson who ignored her for years, and she has to go to a soiree put on by her mother. Along with the case she’s working on there is also a mystery about where the gifts she’s been receiving are coming from. She hasn’t opened them but they’re filling up a room.William is her fiancé so who is sending all these gifts? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
From the title, Fangs For Nothing (The Vampire Detective #1), I expected the story to be a detective, thriller, suspense with some paranormal/supernatural action kind of story. It is not. The detective part seems to be just something the main female character, Lucy, does to occupy her time. Most of her cases are sent to her by her fiance, William, who she is estranged from and has been for 100 years. They are vampires, so time is a bit relative. The story has some witty elements, but all in all, it seems to be geared toward teens rather than adults or young adults. Then again, it does have some adult themes, so it may not be appropriate for teens. I am not sure what audience the book captures, and it wasn’t easy to stay engaged. For these reasons, I could not rate the book higher.
There is little to no suspense in the storyline and no great mysteries to solve. There is romance but from an angsty perspective. The characters are fun and likable. I will read the other two books in the series and see where this goes.

Our heroine has a case that means a lot both to her career and vampires in general. Of course, that also means it is important to those who oppose her…
This is book one of the series which is, of course, a good place to start.
This is a paranormal reverse harem story with a vampire heroine. The story is well written and easy to read and provides an excellent introduction to the characters. The cast is diverse, each with their own agenda and pretty much all of them interested in our heroine. It also provides a far introduction to the setting, although there is a lot more to it than shown here. Overall, a fun and intriguing start to our story. I am definitely looking forward to more.
Highly recommended.

I really enjoy RH novels and this story definitely fit that bill, added to that a sassy, intelligent, strong female character and I’m totally hooked. All the characters I found entertaining and likable and the plot of the story had me engaged until the very end. really enjoyed this story because of the mystery and intrigue the story held and I definitely can’t wait to get to the next story in this series.

This is book one of The Vampire Detective series and the main character is Lucy (Lucinda) Corentine, who works for herself as a Private Detective (P.I.). She is engaged to be married to William Williamsborough III and has been for the last one hundred years, an arrangement their parents came up with. She has refused to set a wedding date with him but does love him and knows that she will agree to marry him one day, she just isn’t ready to yet. They both come from the elite of vampire society, but Lucy wanted a life away from being an heiress and debutante, after her grandmother named her as her heir, instead of her mother! She gets a strange phone call one day, with a man asking her a puzzle, to which she doesn’t know the answer. When a box arrives the next day, she doesn’t connect the two, and on opening it finds a black cat with no eyes.
She has a vampire friend called Derek, who always insists on getting her to try out his new inventions, and leaves her with his latest protective invention, the DDD. When it wakes her up in the middle of the night, he finds a strange vampire called Jonas in her bedroom, supposedly wanting to hire her to find something for him. He says he is a friend of William’s and she was recommended to help him find a watch he had lost, that supposedly belonged to his human wife. It should have been a fairly easy case, with an expensive looking watch of sentimental value, but something is seriously wrong with her case and Jonas isn’t providing her any of the correct answers. When she asks William for help, he comes to stay but is distracted by the presence of her friend Derek, who brings out his jealous side. The two vampires, from completely different ends of the social, seem to bring out the worst of each other around Lucy and try to outdo themselves to gain her attention. A fun storyline with some unusual relationships and a drunken mistake at the end which brings more problems! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
