A #1 New York Times bestselling author! In Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life-and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon … Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere. Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to. Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone. For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind? I loved this. I don’t know why it took me so long to read it. Great characters, awesome premise, original writing. It was engaging and fun to read.
This book was AMAZING and before it I never really thought about FanFiction but this really opened my eyes. This book also introduced me to Carry On which is also AMAZING!
One of the only times I have really related to a fictional character. I feel like this book understands me.
I really like how the characters are not perfect. They are all so flawed! I’ve never read a book with so many characters that have what people would consider to be physically flawed. I also enjoyed Cath’s main romance, which was also flawed.
When I first looked into this book, I was under the impression that this wasn’t LGBTQ+, but because of all …
Such a fun, cute read! I would highly recommend for readers and writers alike! LOVED IT.
This book was okay, but Rainbow Rowell is not the author for me. She did a good job on this book, but some parts made little sense, and Cath and Levi weren’t a great couple.
I love this book so much, Rowell is a genius. I’ve read Fangirl so many times that I lost count after 11. Cath is super relatable, and Levi is the sweetest person ever. Rowell makes you literally fall in love with all of her characters, and it becomes hard not to think of them as actual people instead of just characters in a book. They’re so …
I love the way Rainbow Rowell writes. As a reader and writer of fanfic in the past, this story spoke to me. Cath was so likable and easy to root for. I couldn’t put this book down. It’s just a really down-to-earth coming-of-age story and that was something I found so refreshing.
Honestly, I picked this up because I liked the cover art and the author’s name is Rainbow. I didn’t know anything else about this book.
Hand’s down, this is the best book I’ve read so far in 2019 (it’s now August). The characters have stayed with me weeks after I finished the book, and I ended up buying my own copy after borrowing it from the …
Where do I even start?… I don’t even know. This was an Amazing story! I was always so excited to start reading the next page just waiting to see what Rowell had in store for this story! Totally recommend this book! Especially some of those… steamy moments hah
Rainbow Rowell’s characters are realistic and much more than just 2-Dimensional. Almost everyone can relate to her characters and it makes the book full of moments that make you want to cry and then laugh. One of my favorite books I’ve ever read to date.
I LOVE Fangirl! There are some elements for everyone – romance, mastering a new environment, fantasy (especially for fans of Harry Potter fanfic), and addressing tough topics like mental health (specifically Bipolar Disorder), alcohol addiction, and abandonment. Other than the main storyline, I think my favorite element is how the book portrays …
This book is bloody brilliant! Truly magnificent! I was so hooked on reading this that I took a sick day at work just so that I could finish reading it in one sitting.
I really connected with the main character more than most I read about. There were so many parallels between the main character, Cath, and myself that it felt like this book was …
This book is about a set of twins named Cath and Wren. They are going off to college for the first time. Wren – a free spirit who wants independence, tells Cath she doesn’t want to be roomates at college. Cath, who is an introvert who writes fanfiction about characters in her favorite book, is now completely on her own and terrified. She ends …
I borrowed this book from a friend having read (and loved) a few other Rowell’s books. I absolutely loved it at so many levels. Even though Cath and I are separated by a chasm of life years, I was surprised to find out how much I identified with her and her situation. Ms. Rowell was spot on with the mental health aspect of the story and also with …
I really liked it. When it was finished I held it in my arms and whispered, “no.” I didn’t want this story to end. It was a bit romantic, and I don’t really like those kinds of books, but this one was alright.
This was sat on my bookshelf for ages! Like I had brought it on one of my random trips to either Waterstones or WHSmith, I have no idea which it was but either way it was sat on my bookshelf for ages! I had heard a lot about Rainbow Rowell mainly Eleanor & Park out of the majority of them. So I decided to start reading Fangirl.
I loved this book! …
Quite enjoyable. I do wish this author had been around when I was a teen. She has the understanding.
I made the mistake of reading Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and could not understand how Ms. Rowell got away with ripping off Harry Potter…yet!… I could not stop reading Carry On! It was such a page-turner and Rowell is an amazing, engaging wordsmith. Anyway, I was so enthralled with her honest, quirky writing-style, I picked up Fangirl. Then I …
this book is the perfect pick for any young adult who loves humorous books!
