A macabre poem scrawled in blood. A girl with a secret. And a ruthless killer who’ll stop at nothing to find her. “Thrilling, emotional, and depraved, with twists and turns you don’t see coming.” ~Kristen Mae, bestselling author of Red Water“Fearless, smart writing and a plot that will stick with you.” ~Beth Teliho, award-winning author of Order of SevenSTARVATION TAKES MANY FORMSAsh Park, a … Order of Seven
STARVATION TAKES MANY FORMS
Ash Park, a run-down suburb of Detroit, might not be the most idyllic place to live, but for Hannah Montgomery, it’s safe. At least, it feels that way until a serial killer starts dicing up women from the shelter where she volunteers.
Hannah manages to convince herself the killings have nothing to do with her brutal past—but then her boyfriend is murdered in the same ruthless manner as the others. And the police think she may have had something to do with it.
The cops are right about one thing: Hannah is responsible. Because she knows who the killer is. Now she must face the fact that she brought a monster with her to Ash Park—and his appetite for blood is insatiable.
Everyone’s hungry for something.
Some are more famished than others.
Dark, gritty, and raw, Famished is an emotional roller coaster and an electrifying debut from bestselling author Meghan O’Flynn. If you like Chelsea Cain, James Patterson, or Caroline Kepnes, you’ll LOVE Famished, the first book in the Ash Park series.

Famished was hard for me to get into and once I did I had to make allowances for the author’s facts. Some things in this book are just to unreal for words. Hannah is an abused runaway who is convinced that her molester father is coming after her even though she ran away from home five years earlier.
There is a serial killer who likes to dissect his victims and leave Lewis Carroll verse at the kill sites. Hannah is convinced she is next.
The author, Ms, O’Flynn, uses words to shock the reader and is overly brutal with her depictions. Less would have been more. The story has lots of stereotypes, the detective, the rookie, the abusive boyfriend, the victim, and the charismatic boss who will save her. The situations are unbelievable and the reasoning for the actions just too pat. Thought about quitting reading it multiple times and probably should have. The narrative jumps from character to character and until you read a few lines, you aren’t sure who is in charge of the plot. And, to top it off, it doesn’t really end. In the epilogue, it leads in to the next book in the Ash Park series.
If I had known how unpolished it would be, I would have passed on this book.
Over all, this is a good book with good characters. It kept my interest throughout with the question of who done it in my mind. The personalities of the characters are done well and brought into the mix of things in a timely fashion. I must say, though, that the background of the main character could have been expanded upon. I also have to share that the ending was less than I expected or desired. It was much too quick and still left me with un unanswered questions. The writer may have felt that they could be covered in a future book however; the opportunity was missed in this one. Also, the manner in which the situation was resolved was unbelievably fast. In other words, I found no resolution to the story and was disappointed.
Unless you are really into GRAPHIC, GROSS TORTURE, avoid this NC17 waste of two days.
This was too gory for me about Hannah Montgomery who is a volunteer at a women’s shelter. There is a serial killer that is dicing up women from the shelter.
the author did a great job of showing the mind of the victim or victim-to-be Hannah. this was a little too graphic for my taste, but had an intersting plot-line.
Ok I gave this a 3* out of 5* but it didn’t start out to be a 3….I really thought it was going to be a 5 and stay there; however, the longer the story went on (and it did go on for a LONG time), I began to bring my star rating down. The plot is truly a great murder mystery and intriguing from the start. It has some very graphic details too which could turn off some people, but I just ‘fast read’ passed those. 🙂 The ‘villain’ or ‘villains’ are well hidden until toward the end. That part was super. I don’t think I’ve ever had so many to choose from in one book. So many depraved childhood memories and so much intertwined with the adults they became. Now to the reason of coming to the 3* rating. The ending just didn’t resonate with me. Remember this is MY opinion and to someone else, it probably was just the ending that was expected. I do like the characters of Det. and his assistant. This was a ‘new’ to me author and I see that she has more. Will I give them a chance? Maybe, but don’t let that stop YOU from finding out for yourself. Thanks.
too graphic for me.
Whew ! What a read !
I like mysteries and Action packed some Thrillers this book is a little bit of all three from what little I read that makes me crabby as I want to know more of what happened in the past and who she thinks the killer is. I want to read more I want this book to finfsh the mystery also to see if it makes me jump if I hear a noise while I’m reading a intense part of the story if it does its a winner like Authors James Patterson and Heather Graham off the top of my head. I recommend this whole book not just a few words to tease.
This story was a bit much even for me. A brutal serial killer that kills without remorse or conscience is loose. Brutal mutilations, no rhyme or reason except they are somehow connected and look like one person. Hannah has had a life of abuse, first from a source that should have kept her safe then of her own choosing to be safe and not alone. This isn’t an easy story to read by any stretch of the imagination. I have read some of this author’s other works and none were quite as disturbing as this one. It’s well written with a story that will haunt you and explores the depravity of man while making a mockery of the bundling police on the case. Read it if you dare just make sure your ready.
Did not care for this book – language and it was a bit gross.
Way to dark for me. I only made it through the second chapter before I bailed.
Disturbing (in a bad way) content
What a twisted perpetrator! O. M. G.!
The charactors really come to life in this book. Definitely a page turner. A must read.
I loved it. Just when you thought you had it all figured out, it takes another turn. Well written. Will definitely hold your interest.
It was exciting with twists and turns…
My heart hurt at the end. Serous, watch and be involved with your children and de aware of what’s going on around you!
I didn’t care for the way it ended.
It’s all over the place. They are a little boring and hard to follow.
