This was an absolute page-turner. The pace was fast and kept me entertained from start to finish. This story was so intense. Never a calm moment. The author keeps you guessing throughout. Set aside some time and enjoy. I highly recommend the Meredith and Hodge series and Family Matters is one of my favorites.
Great new edition to the Meredith Hodge series, New characters well thought out. Good plot kept me thinking and kept me guessing to the end. Also loved the taster of the next book.
Meredith is trying to get back to work after his accident. But things are not going as well as he was hoping they would, and then there is a wedding to attend to. The wedding is ruined when Meredith is arrested and his half brother turns up with a body in the boot of his car. Yep, that will put and end to a wedding. It seems an old adversary is trying to ruin Meredith’s life before he wipes out everyone Meredith cares about. Patsy and Amanda are being stalked and are in the sights of a sadistic killer.
Meredith tries to figure out who is responsible for all this mess, Hodge goes off on her own and ends up in the clutches of the man who is trying to ruin Meredith! He tells Meredith that Hodges won’t make it out alive. Can Meredith save Hodges and find out who the killer is? Just when you think you have it figured out….you guessed wrong! I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the Meredith and Hodge characters and the new characters that are added in this story. The plot twists and turns and keeps you guessing all the way through.
Book 8 of this well-written, dark, and gritty British police procedural finds former (and about to be again) DCI John Meredith finally marrying his beloved Patsy Hodge, also a former police officer, seconds before he gets arrested for being a bent copper. They have to figure out who’s got it in for him. The list is endless, and figuring it out puts Meredith, Hodge, and their families in harm’s way.
I liked this book for so many reasons – great scene-setting, snappy dialogue, edge-of-your-seat action, well-drawn characters (including the secondary ones), complicated crimes, and of course, Meredith and Hodge finally making it to the altar. The last book in the series took a weird hard left into British-manor-house-locked-room-almost-cozy for me, and that’s not why I read this series. This book once again had everything I loved – Meredith being brilliantly imperious, putting people in their places; Patsy retaining her identity even as she moves into the role of wife; each of the secondary characters getting some time in the sun; dark crimes; a host of unlikeable and likeable suspects; and an ending I didn’t see coming.
I recommend these be read in order, because each story builds on the previous one, and watching the relationship between Meredith and Hodge grow and change, and the other characters evolve, is half the fun. The only drawback I can see to this series, and it’s a minor one, is that one of the secondary characters carries the same name as a political figure I’m not particularly fond of. Initially it took me out of the story, but now I just set that to the side and read on, especially since there’s so much to like about the series, and I am such a fan of Meredith and Hodge.
Meredith and Hodge step in it once again. They can’t even seem to take a relaxing holiday. MK Turner produced another outstanding novel with Family Matters. This book is a bit different than others in the series but just as twisted, humorous and incredible. As always the characters are well developed and even though the honeymoon period of their marriage isn’t proceeding in the usual manner Hodge does an amazing job of keeping Meredith in line…..ummm…the jury is out on how he actually sees this piece. Lee Beddow continues to do a remarkable job of narrating and infusing life into MK Turner’s engaging adventures.
