WORLD’S BEST STORY 2014Her mom’s a witch. Her dad’s a demon. And she just wants to be ordinary.I batted at the curl of smoke drifting off the tip of my candle and tried not to sneeze. My heavy velvet cloak fell in oppressive, suffocating folds in the closed space of the ceremony chamber, the cowl trapping the annoying bits of puff I missed. I hated the way my eyes burned and teared, an almost … missed. I hated the way my eyes burned and teared, an almost constant distraction. Not that I didn’t welcome the distraction, to be honest. Anything to take my mind from what went on around me.
Being part of a demon raising is way less exciting than it sounds.
Sydlynn Hayle’s teen life couldn’t be more complicated. Trying to please her coven is all a fantasy while the adventure of starting over in a new town and fending off a bully cheerleader who hates her are just the beginning of her troubles. What to do when delicious football hero Brad Peters–boyfriend of her cheer nemesis–shows interest? If only the darkly yummy witch, Quaid Moromond, didn’t make it so difficult for her to focus on fitting in with the normal kids despite her paranormal, witchcraft laced home life. Add to that her crazy grandmother’s constant escapes driving her family to the brink and Syd’s between a rock and a coven site. Forced to take on power she doesn’t want to protect a coven who blames her for everything, only she can save her family’s magic.
If her family’s distrust doesn’t destroy her first.
· “A great, inventive plot, a deeply flawed, self-deprecating, heroine, many wondrous sub-characters and a constantly-evolving world of madness and magic (with a goodly side order of teen angst thrown in!). What more could you want?” — Amazon reviewer Hobbitual
·”Thank you Ms. Larsen, for an excellent read….please please please tell me there will be more about these characters!” — Amazon reviewer Michelle William

I’m a HUGE fan of all things to do with witches and when I find a good story about them, I get so excited and usually can’t put the book down. Well, this is exactly what happened with Family Magic. Patti Larsen drew me in from the very beginning with a main character who is both feisty and loving as well as being a typical stroppy teenager with …
Entertaining tale of magic and mayhem
What a fun adventure in a great bookverse. Absolutely well written and engaging. Wish I had read it sooner. Now on to the next in series and more fun magic and mayhem with one of my new favorite magic using families.
Still one of my favourites from the indomitable Patti Larsen
This is the first book in Hayle Coven Series, Syd is a 16 year-old girl, who just wants a normal life, but, being born into a family that has magic, it’s not that easy. Syd, wants nothing to do with the magic, even though her mom is the coven leader, and her father is the demon lord. As much as Syd wants nothing to do with magic, something happens …
A great story. Very entertaining, I couldn’t put it down. Such a novel storyline. I enjoyed it. I love how the plot wraps up and we are not left with a cliffhanger. But you know there is more story to tell. I highly recommend this book.
Loved this book!
Easy to read
In this world of witches and witch craft it is an eye opener to see how manipulative and wicked the witchcraft is even though they espouse kindness and in this story the mother is constantly taking the daughter’s choices and will away from her for the good of all the witches. I do not think this would be a life style that I would want for a child …
Enjoyable read.
This book wasn’t bad but I felt like it moved slow. It had a lot of repetition and wining from the main character. Got better half way through the book. Moved faster and got good.
Pretty good read.
I loved it but i dont like that the rest of the books arent available in my app store. I would love to follow the story as there are 19 more books .
It was surprisingly uniques and had wonderful characters.
Great story!
Great characters!
love the story & wish it was longer. totally able to sympathize with the main characters inability to connect with her family & for them to understand one another.
