The New York Times bestselling first book in the Rose Gardner Investigation series, a spinoff of the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today best selling Rose Gardner Mystery series.Trouble always comes to those who court it. Rose Gardner’s ability to see glimpses of the future has gotten her into hot water time and again, but so have her curiosity and her sense of daring. Those very … daring. Those very qualities helped her defeat the most powerful man in Arkansas—a man so adept at hiding his crimes there was no way to defeat him inside of the law—but her success came at a steep personal price. Now she’s throwing herself into her landscaping business, trying to live a life that’s as orderly as one of her gardens.
Rose’s best friend, Neely Kate, is struggling with her own losses, so when she suggests they help a local man find a missing necklace, Rose agrees. It’ll give both of them a welcome distraction, and besides, it’s a simple investigation. What harm could befall them? But things that should be simple rarely are. In seeking out the necklace, Rose and Neely Kate find themselves in the thick of a power struggle in the Fenton County underworld, one that could dethrone Rose’s friend James Malcolm, the surprisingly moral king.
The last thing Rose should do is court more trouble, but she’s not the type to step away from a friend in need—and she’s also not so sure she wants an orderly life.

Hard to get into at first. The characters grow on you and then you want to know what happened!
Intresting. Keep wondering what is coming next. Worth reading.
Dislike. Quit after 50 pages.
I read this as a stand alone novel and although the author explained past details I felt I should have read previous books. I did enjoy the book and would like to read more by this author. The characters were fun and the plot had just the right amount of mystery and action.
It took a bit of reading to enjoy the story but I ended up liking it. The writing seemed immature in the beginning but then I got into it.
The characters were spacy. If women acted like this at all it would be ridiculous. A story needs to have believable characters for the reader to identify with. And this book does not.
Didn’t finish it. In fact, I hardly started it. It just didn’t interest me at all.
Easy to read. Entertaining!
A great read!
Decided to go back to the first in the series to really get a handle on the characters and their roles throughout the series. LOVE THIS SERIES!
Had several strong women. Didn’t get too graphic with the sex. Didn’t pretend to make everything better and sweet when it wouldn’t be. Didn’t have as much depth as I wanted. Women had real, pasts. Pastor demonstrated why ‘new’ church appealing.
Kept me interested – main character has some meat to her and consistent in her personal views of ‘just how her mind worked or not’. Liked this author’s ability!
Didn’t care for it. The idea of having these short term visualizations ruined it for me.
Was too ditsy; could’t get into it.
Bleat me wanting more details. In a way frustrating
Thoroughly enjoyed this book
Truly enjoyed this book, however, it was the first book in a series and I felt I was missing a lot of information from prior books regarding the Lady in Black. The gave it a 4.5 for that reason.
It has been a while since I had read the previous book in this series and it took me a while to recall all the details. As in her other books she keeps you engaged and wondering how the story is going to twist and turn. In the end you know you should never doubt this author. Another great book!
Amateur sleuths and an interesting story-line. Interesting characters and an interesting read.
I like this author and the book series
