Allie Callas has a normal-ish job: she’s the owner and sole employee of Finders Keepers, a service dedicated to the time-consuming task of finding (and finding out) things on the tiny Greek island of Merope. The fact that she’s been seeing the dead ever since she can remember is incidental. It’s nothing more than a … a … a birthmark on her soul and a pain in her butt.Except now death is getting … getting personal and the dead are getting bossy. Her best friend (and neighbor) has been murdered, and her ghost is back to tell Allie that the events leading up to her death are hazy (very unhelpful), and that she wants Allie to figure out whodunit.
Allie isn’t a cop, but the wall-banging, hump-happy Detective Leo Samaras is just one floor away. Does he want her help? Nooo … But he wouldn’t mind taking a good, hard look at her bedroom.
With the dead starting to make unreasonable demands on her time, can Allie figure out who killed her friend, without taking a one-way trip to the grave herself? Will she start cursing the day she started seeing ghosts? And where did the hefty ghost cat that has moved into her apartment come from anyway?
FAMILY GHOULS is the first book in the Greek Ghouls series: a comedic mystery set in Greece and steeped in ouzo.

A cozy that has a bit of it all. Humor, mystery, paranormal, and romance. Allie sees dead people. She lives in Merope, an island near Greece. When her friend and neighbor dies. Her dead neighbor insists that Allie finds out who murdered her. Not to mention the handsome cop upstairs and the dead cat that has taken up residence. A very enjoyable read.
Don’t bother. This is a really odd book and far too focused on male genitalia, just in the first chapter. I couldn’t get through the first half of chapter two. This author is confused – cozy mystery NOT trashy romance genre.
Too much crude language. Grandma’s shouldn’t talk like that. Totally doesn’t need all the greek words.
I’d call this a very original story and has all the good things a mystery needs to keep me interested. The protagonist is sarcastic and a wee bit grumpy, some characters are delightful but most are way too human. If you like quirky, strong headed, indivudialistic characters, this is for you.
I liked the story except for all the Greek words. Maybe the author could have put in parentheses what they meant after them.
This story could have been funny and entertaining.
However, it is triple X rated.
There is a storyline in there, under the triple X parts. If they had been left out, the story would have been far more enjoyable, and maybe I would have read another one in the series.
This book needs a triple X designation disclaimer.
Fun book had a hard time putting the book down.
This was a wonderful story; it kept my interest to the end. However, I felt like I was walking through a sewer the whole time. Some people may like the excessive bathroom humor/sexual comments (usually made in Greek, but with enough information given so one can understand them). They ruined what was an otherwise good story.
Lovely
Had me laughing out loud
I liked this book. It’s a different twist on PWF. The heroine is humorous, smart, but doesn’t take herself to seriously. It’s got a fabulous setting. Recommend.
I loved this book. So funny and the characters are so real. A really fun book
AN ASOLUTE RIOT!
Fun, light murder mystery that makes you laugh while also developing a good storyline and interesting characters.
Alex King is one of the BESTof the genre,
This girl has a nice way of how to deal with “the recently departed”
Loved the quirky characters.
Loved it . Very well written .
A very good book, well written and very funny, well done to Alex
Allie has the unusual ability to see dead people. This comes in very handy when her next door neighbor, Olga, is murdered. Olga pops in from time to time asking Allie to figure out who murdered her. Allie also finds she is helped by the detective who happens to live one floor above her, and together they have to piece together the clues to figure out who would want little old lady Olga dead–could it be one of her selfish children? Someone jealous of her? You have to read the book to find out, and be ready to laugh–a lot!
