Police department psychologist Kira McGinnis lives by the rule of never getting involved with your patients. She has enough on her plate, caring for her five-year-old daughter and her troubled teenage brother. Difficult, charming Detective Jake Donnelly is one of her patients. He is using his tough-guy routine to hide his feelings. Jake says he will do anything to get back to active duty. He is not trying very hard, and he does not trust shrinks. He does not want Kira to know what he is thinking or feeling. He would like to get to know Kira better outside the job. That is impossible since he is her job. – Kira is caring and smart. She has a loving relationship with her daughter and her teenage stepbrother. Jake is great with kids; I enjoyed his interaction with them. I was disappointed that Jake did not open up to Kira during their therapy sessions, but he had to do that in his own time. The book drug in places, but overall this is a good read.
This is the first book I have read from Margaret Watson and I really enjoyed it. Very interesting characters and situations. Easy to read.
Awesome book. Awesome writer
Oh yes this is such a good story! I just couldn’t put it down. With effort anyone can become a family and enjoy the ties of a family
I skipped over the steamy parts, as they weren’t needed to make the book great
Police psychologist Kira McGinnis wants to know what Detective Jake Donnelly really feels. Jake just wants to put things behind him and move on, preferably to the bedroom with Kira. After all, what’s wrong with having a little fun. That is until things begin to become real and then choices need to be made. Let’s hope they’re the right ones.
Although Jake and Kira’s first real date is on a ferris wheel, it should have been a roller coaster. Their relationship is a bit of a bumpy one with its ups and downs and a few twists and turns. But you’ll definitely want to hold on for it’s well worth the ride. There’s plenty of drama with a bit of teenage angst and some highly suspect behavior, culminating in an unexpectedly dangerous situation. It’s a tale that also includes a delightful little girl with a unique sense of fashion, an overly friendly dog and his suspicious cohort, and, of course, a touch or two of steamy passion.
This is a fascinating read that will have you captivated from the very beginning with a cast of well-drawn characters and an appealing, and at times charming, storyline. There are moments that will tug at your heartstrings, some warmingly and some achingly, a moment or two that may bring you to righteous anger, and a few that are suspenseful with a smattering of anxiousness thrown in here and there. You’ll definitely find this a real page turner from start to finish.
Jack is at a cross road in his life and career even though he doesn’t want to admit it and having to see the work psychologist Kira in order to get cleared for work after the shooting doesn’t help. I really like Jack after meeting him in In Her Defense so really wanted him to have a happy ending and Kira is that women even though they both don’t know what to do with the feelings that grow between them. This is a great read with laughs, tension, sweet moments (Lex’s Tea Party) mystery, attraction and secrets to be uncovered.

He was stubborn as a rabid mule …

She watched him as roam around the room Kira got the impression he wanted to anywhere but here.
Jake had complied when he was ordered to show up here to discuss his use of his fire arm resulting in him putting a worthless criminal where he belong which was six feet under.
Kira wanted him to take her job serious and until he did she wasn’t going to sign off on him returning to active duty.
Jake had been infuriated at they way she kept pocking at him over and over he’d always been the kind of guy to hold things close to the vest.
Why did he have to bring up his ex-wife just what he didn’t want to talk to McDougal or anyone else about was her.
Kira walked her daughter in the house she found a note from her step-brother saying he’d left dinner waiting for them.
Not the brightest move for him.
The very Last thing she wanted was to get a phone call that Brian had been arrested. Kira had felt awful but the fact was her babysitter needed to leave there so she had no choice.
So she’d been stunned when he was brought home by the on person who set her hair on fire. Jake Donnelly was the biggest jerk she’d ever meet and the fact her step-brother knew him and had in fact spent months she knew nothing about until a few minutes ago.
Kira was seething after her phone call about the one detective who happened to be the biggest PITA ever.
Jake understood when one of the teens had asked to move the group session up because they were struggling and needed help.
Wow Jake never thought he’d catch her spying on his group he was just grateful her brother had seen her.
Getting Jake to open up an actually talk felt like pulling and eighteen wheeler with her teeth across the Raymond James Stadium during the super bowl.
Jake was totally frustrated he showed up answered her dumb questions and she still hadn’t release him to return to work.
Telling him maybe next week.
Kira knew something wasn’t right, her office door had been unlocked and she could tell someone had messed with filling cabinet.
He was happier now that he finally could act on his feelings yeah Jake liked her a lot more then he’d had let on.
Jake had been floored when he caught someone breaking into her office again so now he’s faced with dilemma.
Kira couldn’t understand why he’d was there to get her step-brother, he been doing so well she couldn’t figure out what had changed and the brat wasn’t telling.
Once he has the whole story Jake when running out whoever things don’t go quite as planned and he ends up in the last place anyone wants to be.
Sometimes will do anything not to be honest especially with yourself Jake had made decisions a long time ago after suffering a loss but now he’s been second guessing his choices.
Should he stay? Or go?
