4 well-deserved stars
I listened to the audio version.
The narrator was good, solid, with a pleasant voice. Not too irritating. (Maybe you think it’s strange for me to mention it like this, but I’ve heard some irritating voices when I was listening to samples!)
The story was fun. Lighthearted. Likeable main character. But there was one thing that bothered me and that was that the author felt the need to describe the feelings of Hope like this (example, quote): “I was beside myself.” And “I became exasperated.” That should be worked into the story differently. Let that feeling be clear in another way, let those words speak for themselves. This is not how a real person would talk. So my advice is: show, not tell. Another example, when talking to someone else, Hope says: “He heard enough.” How could she know? It’s not his POV.
The case was good. Easy to follow, not easy to solve, and I liked the way Hope went about solving the case. Very methodically and I really liked that! A pleasant listen. 4 well-deserved stars. I’m looking forward to hearing more.
Hope Hadley’s life was undergoing major changes. She lost her job, her boyfriend, and was accused of murder. I loved how she would not go down without a fight. There were plenty of twists for her to work through and kept me guessing as the story progressed. Rachel Carr was okay as a narrator. I would have enjoyed a little more difference in the characters voices, but overall, this was a good listen.
I received a copy of this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review
This very short book has no bad language or sex in writing style, and suitable for young readers. It is a cozy mystery-just not one for the target audience that it was aimed for.
As an adult I found it wasn’t for adults but for a young teenager who would like it better.
This book is a fast read.I have not read this series before and found this book as an easy read. If you are looking for a hard core mystery this book is not for you. But if you are just wanting to relax and read a quick cozy this book fits the bill. Rachael Carr does a good job of narrating this cozy. I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
4*
Actress Hope Hadley thinks things cannot get any worse for her. She has just finished filming the last episode of her hit detective show, she has been told she is to old for other parts she has tried out for, and her boyfriend has left her for a younger woman. What else can go wrong?
Less then 24 hours later a whole lot goes wrong. Her ex-boyfriend has been murdered and guess who is a suspect? Yep Hope!
Hope decides she must clear her own name and help the police find the real killer. After playing a Detective on her hit show she decides she has picked up some skills help her do just that.
Can hope find the killer and clear her name or will she be found guilty of a crime she di not commit.
Meredith Potts has done a great job with this short mystery. It is only a little over 2 hours long. This is a clean book no foul language or sex scenes, and even the violence of the murder is down played.
The book is narrated by Rachel Carr. I really enjoyed her voices and she kept me entertained and kept my attention.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
