Ryan Shea has sworn off men. After her last relationship imploded in front of her eyes, she decides to take a break from swimming in the dating pool … possibly forever. The brilliant computer whiz loses her brain when it comes to love, and jumping feet first burns her every time.Without a home, or much of a clue where life is headed, taking a trip back to the small town of Fawn Hill to stay with … Hill to stay with her best friend seems like the only option.
Except it puts Ryan directly in the path of the one man she can’t fall for. Fletcher Nash reminds her too much of the dark past she’s always run from; his demons are the things of her nightmares. And it’s no help that, when he looks at her, she feels as if Fletcher is the one person who truly understands.
Fletcher Nash vowed not to fall in lust.
Five years of sobriety, and he hasn’t broken the chastity promise yet. Not that it had to keep for this long … he’s well over the normal year addicts are told not to get involved.
But, aside from a busy schedule and trying to chase his dream of becoming a full-time artist, he has no intentions of committing to a woman until she is the one.
Why is it, then, that sassy, city girl Ryan Shea comes dangerously close to resembling the exact woman he could break that promise for? Like sand through his fingers, there is no way she’ll stay put … but his heart just won’t listen.
They pledged not to love anyone until it was the real thing.
So what happens when two people terrified of falling head-over-heels, actually do?

“She’s the exact type to become an addiction. And that means talking to her, looking at her, hell … even breathing in her direction. It’s all off limits.”
Ryan is a computer genius and her skills make her travel the world, always seeing new places and living adventures. But even though she’s a smart woman, when it comes to choosing her boyfriends, she doesn’t make good decisions. Getting into one relationship after another with totally inadequate partners, each breakup is a hard blow to digest. Raised in foster homes, and having an addicted mother who never cared about her, she misses belonging, being loved. Trying to find a direction for her life, she ends up deciding to visit her friend in a small town quite unlike the cosmopolitan bustle she’s used to. Bumping into the one man she was supposed to keep away from, just getting out of the shower and naked, was the last thing on her mind on her first day at Fawn Hill.
Fletcher lives one day at a time. And this is not easy. Almost five years after leaving rehab, the urge to drink still accompanies him. But his willpower is stronger. The troubled past and destructive spiral of his youth are behind him, but his struggle to stay sober and not return to old habits is daily, difficult and exhausting. At twenty-nine, he is a former addict, lives with his mother, works in a job with no future, and has no money. His life has been damaged by his choices, but he is trying to get back on his feet. But Ryan inhabits his imagination, makes him want to break his vows, and she has the potential to be his next addiction.
Two people with problems, with fears, with trauma, who have a huge chemistry and a latent desire for each other, but who struggle at all costs to keep their distance. He is the embodiment of everything she abhors, everything that reminds her of her mother. She is what he longs for most in his life, and for an addict it can be dangerous. Replacing one addiction with another can have destructive consequences, and risk his sobriety and his heart frightens him.
With a more serious tone than the other books in the series, Fletcher’s alcoholism is cleverly portrayed, showing how his family and himself were impacted by it. It was interesting to follow his thoughts, see his struggle, because even sober, small ordinary things to other people, for him can be a trigger.
Ryan also has a good development, showing that despite her strong and resolute exterior, she suffers from her mother’s rejection, and deep down always sought love. Her relationship with Fletcher makes her rethink and evaluate whether her demons are worth facing for a love that has the potential to be epic.
A sensitive, dramatic book, with strong, serious themes, but it was conducted in such a way that the reader felt the dilemma of the characters, experienced their anguish and hoped for a happy ending. A great journey.
This is the last Nash brother book in this series and it’s about Fletcher, in the previous books I just knew his book would be emotional since he is a recovering alcoholic. It’s been five years since he has been sober, he has been working hard, making amends, working on bettering himself which is why he has stayed away from any type of relationship or women in general. I loved him so much because you could feel how hard he tried everyday to be better, you could see how he wanted to prove his worth to not only himself but his family too. He was a beautiful person inside and out now that he found his sobriety and I loved getting to know more about him.
Ryan is a city girl, a traveler, independent woman who tries to find love in all the wrong places. She comes back to Fawn Hill after an awful breakup, swearing off men for at least a year. Honestly I wasn’t sure how I felt about Ryan because I liked her in some ways but others I had a hard time connecting with her or even feeling compassion for her. I liked that she was independent yet she emotionally stunted with abandonment issues from her addict mother. I also liked that she was hardworking and loyal to her friend Presley and even new friends she had just recently made. I also loved how in some moments she was so compassionate, such a great listener, and just there for Fletcher. What I couldn’t’ stand was her constant need to bash small town life then say “i know this makes me sound selfish, like a witch with a b, but I’m a city girl” we get it you don’t like it yet you’re there loving it at the same time. One other thing that she did I could not stand was how she was always there for Fletcher with a listening ear yet one instance she starts to be judgemental of him and throws things up in his face which he didn’t deserve. She towards the end runs away again but says because Fletcher told her to go its all his fault when she was the one that created the gap between them because she couldn’t stop comparing him to her mom, so I didn’t like he was the one that apologized first, he didn’t deserve her judgment. Like I said I loved the book I just personally didn’t think Ryan was a good match for Fletcher, I thought she made a good friend but her aversion to addicts using or recovering wouldn’t work between them because she honestly had no time to get over it so to speak. Overall I honestly enjoyed it mostly due to Fletcher and the other Nash’s and us getting a look inside the day to day struggles of a recovering addict, it’s been a great series and I hate to see the Nash brothers series end.
Falter is the fourth book in the Nash Brothers series by Carrie Aarons and each book is about one of the Nash Brothers and it takes place in a small town. This one is about Ryan and Fletcher.
.
Ryan is a hacker who needs some time off and therefore visits her best friend from book one. She is a person who loves fiercely and with her entire being, but that was never returned and she only ever got her heart broken.
.
Fletcher is a recovering addict and went to rehab. He is now getting back on his feet and crates a life for himself. This also means to not get in a relationship to continue his full recovery.
.
Ryan and Fletcher seek a place in the world that they can call home. Both have their own demons and therefore stay far away from romance until they experience how much this can give them. Everyone deserves an HEA and especially these two and I really enjoyed their story.
.
Overall, this story not only is a beautiful romance, but also shows the struggles in life. 4,5 stars.
(ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.)
Falter by Carrie Aarons is the fourth book in her Nash Brothers series. A story of love least expected from two of the unlikeliest people.
Fletcher Nash has been sober for five years. It’s a great accomplishment and something he battles with daily. An unintentional consequence of his five years of sobriety is his five years of celibacy. Having spent his drunken and drugged out years in a haze, he can’t remember most of his previous partners, at all. So with his sobriety came the promise that the next person would be his forever person.
Ryan Shea has been a frequent visitor to Fawn Hill since her best friend moved there years ago (see Fleeting) and with her visits she has come to know the Nash brothers quite well. Fletcher is an enigma to her – hot, unattached, mysterious, artistic. But she has sworn off men. She is done with becoming whatever the men in her life expect from her, molding herself to fit their best image. She is done with love and done with men. The next one will be THE ONE.
Emotional and gritty – Fletcher’s story does NOT shy away from the ugliness of addiction. It deals with it head on and with a quiet honesty that is perfectly portrayed by Fletcher’s character. Well-written and well-paced, this Nash Brothers series has made Carrie Aarons a must-read author for me. Enjoy!
Fletcher Nash is the last Nash brother that hasn’t found his true love. He has been sober for 5 years and believes he needs to hold out for the real love so he doesn’t mess up his sobriety. I love his character he feels so much and struggles daily against his demons. Ryan moves to town, she isn’t a small town girl but she really gets under Fletcher’s skin. They both have a lot to figure out about themselves but when they are together they are electric. Love all the Nash family. Excellent Series.
Forrest and Penelope are definitely two people who get on each other’s nerves. Forest is cocky and too smart for his own good and Penelope is a strong sarcastic kick ass mother of 3 boys. One night of drunken passion keeps happening until the decide to be hook up buddies. Well they both start to feel too much. Can they be together or will two strong willed people keep themselves apart ? Love these characters.
Oh those Nash Brothers….
First, I love women named Ryan – I don’t know why, I just do. It’s a thing. I totally feel like Ryan with the whole computer nerdiness and falling for the wrong guy ENTIRELY too quickly. Been there, done that, have a closet full of shirts. However, I think she and Fletch (in my head he’s Fletch because I think of the awesome 80s – maybe 90s movie with Chevy Chase) are each other’s lobster.
Of course, neither Ryan nor Fletch are looking for any sort of relationship right then. Ryan is taking a deserved sabbatical from dating and Fletch is just trying to get through his own life and drama before he goes adding someone else into his life.
So of course reading their story is that much more enjoyable!!
I absolutely love Ryan and Fletchers story…it’s not an easy one, but that is what I like about most.
Ryan is sassy and can hold her own next to anyone. Fletcher was a bit broken in some ways, but he crawled his way out of a very deep hole.
Neither is looking for anything…
They both find something…
I love this series and this one def did not disappoint. Carrie knows how to write a small town redemption romance!
Of this series, I was most excited to read about Fletcher as you see the impact he has had on his family through the previous 3 books. Fletcher is a recovering alcoholic who is going on 5 years sober. Ryan Shea is the girl who may break through to him, even though she continually fights her own demons. Ryan has decided to swear off men for a time as she comes to Fawn Hill for a break from romance and to get her life back together.
I feel like Fletcher and Ryan have always been end game but knowing how her relationship with her mother affected her life, I was interested to see how it would all pan out. This book was not without it’s up and downs for the couple but I loved the conclusion to this series!
Falter was the best conclusion we could have gotten to end the Nash brothers series. I always loved Fletcher and Ryan separately but together I love them even more.
Each Nash brother story was better than the last and Fletcher and ay have topped them all with the best story. Both Ryan and Fletcher are struggling with their own demons. This story is about finding love and not letting go of it. Grab the final book in the Nash series because I promise it won’t disappoint!
You always have a favorite in a series and when it comes to The Nash Brothers series, Falter is mine. Fletcher Nash is the brother the entire family worries about, he’s got demons and while he’s done his best to turn his life around there always seems to be someone checking in. He’s followed the rules and played by the books, he’s left no room for error, so why does the wild and wicked smart Ryan tempt his five years of single-hood so?
Ryan Shea has had her fair share of men with demons, her most recent didn’t seem to know how to stay honest in a relationship. Coming back to small town Fawn Hill is meant to get her away from the drama, give her a chance to slow down and figure out her next steps. There is no room for men in her life, especially not the handsome Fletcher, even though she’s attracted to him like a magnet.
“I shouldn’t do this, admire her fox-like features or search for answers to questions I can’t ask in those whiskey-colored eyes.”
Vulnerability and trust are requirements for a relationship to succeed, they’re also the two things that Ryan and Fletcher are unwilling to make space for in their current state. Fletcher is satisfied chasing his goal after fighting to remain sober for five years. Ryan is just trying to figure out what her life looks like with roots in one place, at least for a little while. We first met Fletcher in Fleeting at the height of his addiction and Ryan has been a secondary character through out the series. I’ve wondered where Carrie Aaron’s was going to take Fletcher, how his story would change as we read the other novels, spanning a few years, first. We’re rewarded with a completely different man, the kind of man who embraces his flaws, fights for his passions, and is the kind of man I call a book boyfriend. I loved reading about his hobbies, how his relationship with his family changed, and what the years looked like as he fought to leave alcohol behind. Ryan is a fairly unknown character for us, beyond her job and looks we don’t know who she really is and boy is she interesting. More than Fletcher being my favorite brother, Ryan is my favorite heroine in the series. She’s so tough and while vulnerability isn’t her strong suit, she certainly overcomes that as she reveals her past, her beliefs, and faces the one thing she maybe didn’t know as well as she thought, love.
“‘Okay’.
Just one word, but I feel my whole world go topsy-turvy.”
Tackling deeply-rooted trust issues, forgiveness, addiction, and more, Carrie Aarons has created a beautiful, realistic romance with Falter. Fletcher and Ryan came to life for me and I loved getting to know them both separately and together. Their relationship isn’t easy, there’s no insta-love here, but the passion they have, both for life and each other, drives them together. If you’ve not met the Nash brothers yet, now is the time to do so, because Falter has the best brother in it and I insist that this series be read in its entirety and not as individual standalone novels.
ARC provided.
Fletcher!! I don’t want this series to be ending! I love all of the Nash brothers and Fletcher might have taken the top spot…hard to decide! Fletcher and Ryan both have their battles to overcome…lots of emotion here and I really connected to them, although I don’t face the same battles. Carrie Aarons is an awesome writer who really gets you in the FEELINGS.
I’ve loved this series from the very first book. With each book I’ve fallen more in love with the Nash brothers. Carrie has done an amazing job with each one, but I really loved seeing Fletcher fall in love. He was hard to like at the start of the series, but his dedication to his sobriety and making his family proud made me love him! Ryan was so perfect for him. They were both able to heal further together and I loved every second.
This whole series has been amazing and I am so sad this is the last book!
I love these brothers and how they are all so different. This story was raw and emotional and a perfect way to end these books!
Fletcher. The youngest brother. The other twin. The addict. No, the recovering addict. The one who is taking every piece of his recovery as law – including no relationships for a year. But for Fletcher, it’s been much longer than that. For him it’s no relationships until love.
Ryan is more than she shows to most. The child no one wanted. The woman struggling to find what she’s missing. The woman who admits she’s a serial monogamist – unable to find a man that lasts. So, moving to be by her friend, Presley, and work toward finding herself, Ryan vows to herself no men.
Fletcher and Ryan have crushed in each other since meeting, but is the other worth giving up a vow of no relationships?
Such a beautiful story of healing and finding yourself again.
Another fantastic story from this wonderful Nash Brothers series. I’ve enjoyed every one of these stories and Falter completed the series perfectly.
Ryan and Fletcher were perfect for one another even though they had a number of obstacles to overcome. Fletcher is recovering addict who has been sober for a number of years. Although he’s doing so well his temptations are always going to be there. He doesn’t think He deserves Ryan.
Ryan however has her own issues and having experienced a life of abandonment and being let down by those she loves can she move on and let herself love again.
I really enjoyed this story which had a fantastic storyline and kept me turning the largest from start to finish. A lovely round up to end what has been a fantastic series.
4.5 Stars
Fabulous series. Loved every second didn’t want to stop reading it. Carrie writing and story telling is amazing. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Falter is a great ending to a great series Ryan has had a rough childhood and has sworn off men but Fletcher Nash has gotten under her skin they seem to be addicted to each other they try to stay away from each other but can’t. This is a sweet ,emotional, swoon worthy read I highly recommend this.
I received an ARC from the author for a honest review
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. Out of all the Nash brothers, Fletcher is the one with the biggest and most interesting character arc. Staying sober isn’t easy and five years in, Fletcher still has his days. With the help of family and friends he has carved out a nice life that is free of drugs and alcohol, but that doesn’t mean things are easy.
Things get a little less easy when Ryan comes to town. Since Ryan is the best friend of Fletcher’s sister in law, they have crossed paths over the years. And let’s just say that the two have noticed each other. But this time Ryan is sticking around and it isn’t long before they realize that they are going to have to do something about their attraction to each other.
This book handles the topic of addiction in a very realistic way. Ryan grew up in a home where addiction was prevalent and when she learns the truth about Fletcher, she to decide if a relationship with him is the right thing to do. Five years into sobriety, Fletcher has built a new life, but he is starting to realize that he is a little too comfortable with the way things are. Ryan is the perfect person to add a little color to his life. .
This is an emotional story, but there are plenty of light and sexy moments to even things out. I had a soft sport for Fletcher as I read the series and I’m glad that he was able to get his happily ever after. I’m sad to see this series end because I absolutely LOVE the Nash family, but this book was the perfect way to wrap it up.
Ohh… how I loved Falter! Book four in the Nash Brothers series; Falter tells the story of the youngest Nash brother, Fletcher and his love, Ryan! Five years sober, Fletcher continues to struggle with his recovery as he works to make amends with his family while figuring out how to move forward in life. Ryan is taking a break from life to mend her broken heart and focus on herself. Both have vowed to take a break from the opposite sex; that is until their paths cross and they find themselves fighting an uncontrollable attraction to each other. Such an emotional story that takes the reader on quite a ride!
Carrie Aarons is an amazing storyteller. I am honestly sad to see the Nash Brothers series end.
