It all started with the bereavement flowers with my name on them. Not the best way to wake up, right? I work in a flower shop. I know a funeral arrangement when I see one.I know a killer when I see one, too. And one is standing in my hospital room right now, straight behind the man who saved my life.I can’t tell anyone the truth, because that’s the fastest way to really die. So I do the next best … way to really die. So I do the next best thing. I “lose” my memory.
I fake my amnesia.
Pretending not to remember a brutal attempted murder has its perks. The killer is backing down, spending less time around me, loosening the noose.
The less I claim to recall, the more my rescuer, Duff, works to help me “remember.” I hate lying to him.
But he doesn’t understand that my memory is dangerous. To me. And to him.
Fooling everyone isn’t easy. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
Except it’s starting to look like I’ve been fooling myself.
In more ways than one.
Read Book 1 in the newest series from USA Today bestselling author Meli Raine.
“…intrigue and dark humor on display in this thriller…”
While the immediate—and more compelling—tension in Raine’s (A Shameless Little Bet, 2018, etc.) heart-pumping series opener comes from Lily’s constant proximity to her would-be killer, the action takes place against a backdrop of secret government scandals.
Fortunately, Lily’s voice is captivating, wry, and tough enough to sell this thriller. The novel ends with a cliffhanger that startles, if only because readers will have become so attached to Lily.

I can’t rate this book as I couldn’t get into it. I’m claustaphobic. Being trapped in your body, unable to talk or move was too hard for me to read.
This author really compelled me to not put the book down. It was wonderful in all ways until the end when I found it was part of a continuing trilogy that is a part of different trilogy series. My budget won’t stretch that far for limited time reading. I checked at my library for it and the author’s work is not available. I really wanted to continue the story, but there is so much available at less expense I will have to pass. So sorry. Like I said, wonderful writing, five star all the way until it lead to the next book rather than finished anything.
CLIFFHANGER ALERT 111111
I really can not rate this book, for the first time ever.
The Good. Wonderful narration in a unique situation. Loved the POV and snippets of time passage. Really liked the progression and character development. Normally these attributes would lead me to grant a five star rating.
The Bad. Hello, did I say Cliffhanger. I HATE, hate, hate, hate not having a “Book” resolve itself. In this instance there was absolutely no resolution to ANY of the questions raised. In addition, it was a challenge to be patient with the main character’s reticence to come forward with her knowledge, even when she suspects that another person may be in danger.
You decide. To me this was a PART of a very good book. As it stands, I was very dissipointed at the end.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Just love Meli Raine’s writing. She just keeps you in suspense all the way to the end and then you have to get the next book to see how things go from there. There are three books in the False series and I can’t wait to read them all. I’m on False Start now and will be getting the next one soon.

The twists and turns! Who is the good guys and who are the bad guys! I gotta know more!!
The start of a new series. I love how Meli Raine takes the reader in so many different directions.
This is Lily’s story and Duff is her alpha guardian.
We once again find a new road that leads back to the initial conspiracy.
I love how we are given Lily’s feelings while she is in a coma. Duff is always there but can she trust him? Lily is trying to figure out who she can trust and who is in on harming her.
Once again the ending leaves me wanting more. Will we ever know the web that is this conspiracy and why it is so vast?
I love every book in the two previous series and this one did not disappoint.
I was given this book for an honest voluntary review
This book grabs you from the first words. Blink..I love the way it is told from Lily’s point of view. Superb writing. This follows the Shameless series so some old friends and enemies make their appearances. Lily is recovering after being shot in the head. I am so glad Meli made the recovery of Lily hard work. Rehab can be a grueling process. But the success of that hard work is so rewarding. Duff, Lily’s bodyguard, is one tough guy. With a sensitive side that slowly peaks out through the book. Is the killer still after Lily? Did Lily see who actually shot her? Can she tell anyone? I cannot wait for the next book!
The premise behind this new, incredible series by Meli Raine is intensely unbelievable! The story is told from the point of view of our heroine, Lily, and she starts talking to the reader while she’s still in a coma after someone tried to kill her! Since she technically can’t “see” anything, she’s trying to make some sense of what happened to her and why through listening to people as they come and go in her hospital room. When she finally does awaken, her main goal is to stay alive by convincing the everyone that she can’t remember what happened, especially not identifying the person who tried to kill her. She’s not sure who she can trust, including our Hero, Duff. Although this series is a standalone, one would get so much more out of the story by reading the Harmeless and Shameless trilogies first. Breathtaking start!
I had previously read the Shameless and Harmless series and loved them. They are intriguing, frought with danger, deception, the chance for romance…so much emotion to the characters. So when I heard that the next series building on these other two was coming out I couldn’t wait to read. I started reading yesterday and I finished yesterday because I didn’t want to put the book down. There is a cliffhanger at the end, but I anticipated that going into it. As with the others, this will be a series to read in order. I would recommend reading the others series first if you haven’t already done so as I think you’ll get more out of the series if you do. There is a different feel to this story because Lily is trapped in her body for much of it as a result of her injury, mistaken identity. There is danger always lurking from the person who tried to kill her before (in the last book of the Shameless Series), and Lily doesn’t know who to trust. Pretending to have amnesia is her way to stay alive…but doing so is fraught with challenges. There is so much emotion to this story and I really enjoy the way Meli Raine develops the characters and the story line. Can’t wait to find out what happens next!
The False series was a rollercoaster of a ride. OMG! Had to buy it on audiobook also so I could listen as I drive. All of the stories by this author are action packed with twists and turns. Just when you think you have it figured out, something happens that was not expected. Lilly was an unfortunate mistaken identity who was now protected by the president because she and Jane were friends. The big question is did she see who tried to kill her. Duff has been tasked to keep her safe. Can the two ignore the chemistry or will they give in to temptation?
What a phenomenal start to this series. Lily is an amazing character. She’s relatable and realistic. Each of the characters in this story are complex and well developed. The story plot is well written and thought out. It quickly pulled me in and kept my eyes glued to the pages until the very last word. At times, I was perched on the edge of my seat, gripping my ipad so hard that I thought I would either fall off the chair or break something. This is a story I know I will reread many times. Well done to the author!
Wow have seen this series advertised for ages and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.
Was definitely well worth the wait, have missed these characters and the drama they bring.
Look forward to book 2
Such a fantastic suspense book full of wonderful character development and storyline. The series as a whole is fantastic and hard to put down.
Loved this book so much that I read it in one day!
Wow what a story! It grabbed me from start to finish with its chilling suspense and intriguing storyline. I loved the characters and am really looking forward to more.
This first entry in the False trilogy has ties to the other Meli Raine trilogies for a dense, tense, twisty saga. However, it isn’t necessary to have read the other trilogies, but I do highly recommend them as well. This one has pain, angst, struggle, terror, romance, love, suspicion — layers and layers of goodness. <3
False Memory is a spectacular torrential hurricane that obliterates your world until there is nothing left but the will to live. Even that will has its moments of confusion, but when the fog lifts and fear paralyzes, clarity suddenly takes over. Few things compare to the intensity and the drive to live and to protect. While both require fierce observation and precision response, they find themselves at odds when the edges of sanity blend with the murky darkness of both hidden and seen threats. While one pushes to throw off the advancing evil the other stands silent and unseeing, hoping that the hungry appetite coming to consume and destroy will see there is nothing to pursue and break down. What we see as a battle of wills is actually the careful dance of hope vs reality.
Lily finds her reality has suddenly shifted and she becomes lost to everything and everyone she knows. Desperately fighting to regain a small piece of herself, she struggles with the ebb and flow of her new existence. The darkness that plunged her into this new world stays close hovering and watching. It waits for the perfect time to strike and finish what it left undone. Evil often wears a mask of banality and innocence in order to infiltrate so completely and utterly that nothing is left untouched or untainted. As understanding dawns, Lily has only herself to rely on to protect countless others against a silent, deadly, and lethal evil that threatens to bring maddening chaos once and for all. Duff is a wall of unyielding steel that only learns to bend and meld around the fascinating Lily. He refuses to allow the past to repeat itself, and if he has his way, he will release all of the secrets of his resilient and life-changing flower.
I was fascinated with Duff’s closed off and yet thinly veiled humanity whenever he protected Jane in her series previous to this book, and I instantly fell in love with Lily’s free spirit and her sweet heart. It was hard not to notice that Duff saw Lily as a beautiful person and a good influence for Jane as she dealt with her hell of an existence. I wondered if there could be more between Duff and Lily, and I am thrilled to find out that there truly is more to come. Can these two build a tenuous yet solid trust in order to protect not only Lily’s life but her very fragile heart? Is Duff willing to see evil whenever it smiles and follows him around waiting to destroy the object of his affection and admiration? I know I cannot wait to see what happens next! The heat, heart, and danger will drag you under and leave you begging for more.
Meli Raine continues to excel and exceed any expectations that I have for her phenomenal stories! She obliterates whatever hope I have and shows me something wholly original and better than anything I can dream up. She is a dream author that proves that romantic suspense is one of the most creative and undoubtedly ingenious genres ever. She weaves intelligent, thought provoking storylines with deeply complex and breathtaking characters who are both flawed and precious while giving us a story that is truly and utterly mind-blowing in every sense. She is a goddess in this genre! There are only a few select authors who can truly measure up to her creative mastery, and each of them continue to breathe life and hope into this wonderful world that we are privileged to experience and savor.
Wow, just WOW
False memory has been a book I’ve wanted to read for ages, but because of it only being available on one platform I had to wait….yes impatiently, but it was worth the wait
In the previous series with Jane and Silas, we discovered so many secrets and revelations that it blew my mind. In that series Jane befriended Lily, a local who works at the flower shop. Lily is shot by mistake and this is her story
This book is fast paced, even though the first 1/4 deals with Lily in the hospital, but I’m super impressed by how Meli wrote this and kept me on the edge of my seat Lily soon realises that the person who tried to kill her is in close contact with her and her family, and because she’s vulnerable in her current condition she makes the only choice she can….she claims she has amnesia
Can’t wait to see what happens next, especially after that cliffhanger with Duff
This book is very interesting. To see how Lilly copes and her recovery.
After 14 months in a coma, she is still strong and strong willed.
Also loved how this book keeps you guessing.
Meli Raine did amazing with this book.
I can’t wait for more.
This series starts out with bang. Lily awakes from being in a coma and true fear sets in like no other. She must decide if she wants to reveal what she knows or pretend. Her best bet is to pretend so that her killer doesnt suspect. As we get further into this book, things start to take shape and then boom, your are left with a WTF moment. Til the next book, False Hope.
